Location Based Notifications - Motorola Droid X2

one of iOS 5's big new features are the notification based alerts/notifications that will built into their new update.
I see that there r some apps one the market currently that try to utilize this technology (notably Geo Note), but Apple will undoubtedly set the standard for fully realizing this idea...for now.
A couple of dev buddies of mine who are iphone users think this will be another game changer. Thoughts???

My cousin was showing me that last night. Thought it was kinda cool. Don't know how useful it would actually be. I figured there were prob already some apps out there like that our would be shortly. Don't think its a game changer.

I haven't seen it myself. And I will certainly allow for the fact that my friends will use anything to trash on android...
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App

Locale is the big android location app. It's been around for years. Having used it I'm not sure what kind of game changer it will be. Location based services are terrible on battery life.
Sent from my DROID X2 using xda premium

The iOS5 location based notifications are a little different I believe.
For example, you can set it for when you leave somewhere, it might remind you to get your keys. Something to that extent.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium

Its pretty neat at a technical stand point, but I for one wouldn't use it because it probably has a big impact on battery, so I wouldn't leave of on for half an hour just to get reminded about my keys or to stop by a grocery store.
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App

Just out of curiosity, given maybe 8 meters for good GPS reception would it really be useful since you'd already be well out the door before it could remind you?

I usually realize I forgot my keys when I try to unlock my car. Sounds more like a cheesy gimmick.

He's just speculating about the big brother stuff. Nome of us are important enough for the tracking information to be important. You're crazy if you think you are, and should ditch your smartphone. You're always traceable with it.

Information is always recorded, even if it isn't used.

Ya the other day I was out with my iPhone and I tripped and fell. Apple called to ask if I was OK.

[Q] GB- No TV off animation?

All animations are turned on. I'm a little disappointed that this doesn't have the same animations or screen off effect as the DROID 3. Unless I'm missing something...
yeah i thought that was a nifty little feature that got left out =(
nothing to die over atleast
Yeah they left that out . Hell even the Atrix got it! We didn't get the "latest" blur either. But I'm used to disappointment after being with VZW for years.
Would this work on the x2?

Will this exact file work? No, this is a frame work patch for the X, which is very different on the X2.
Will the method used to create the framework patch work? Probably, someone just needs to dig in to the code and try it out.

Sprint ID, no Moto Blur?

Anyone notice that this is running Sprint ID and not blur.Maybe that is why it is so slow. All the websites reviews are incorrect. I am pretty sure they didn't include blur in this phone.
Sent from my MB855 using XDA Premium App
Huh? Its overflowing with blur. Go into settings/accounts/add account. All those options are part of blur. The weird white
And colored widgets, like the 4g and wifi, those are blur.
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
Contacts, dialer, gallery, messaging, text messaging. All of it is blur.
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
He is probably referring to the hugely in your face earlier versions of Blur, not the current "don't call it motoblur" version of Blur they are using now.
Yea, its still blur. No hiding or denying it.

No I'm serious. The icons are skinned with Motorola. But go into sprint id and install a pack. Nothing changes. The default pack is considered an id pack.

I remember one review stated that Motorola said it wasn't Moto Blur cause it was revised. We all know it's Moto Blur though
No it is a moto version of sprint id. Go look in your system applications. Have you you never used a htc samsung or a different moto device? It actually has system files. It never used sprint id to be moto blur.
Sent from my MB855 using XDA Premium App
Ive owned a droid x a droid 2 and a cliq. I promise you the photon is moto blur. It has the same blur all the motorolas on gb have. Sprint id is a cheap knock off of htc hub imo.

I wanted to see what Sprint ID was all about so I downloaded the Social ID, all it did was download apps.....lol I thought it was some cool thing Sprint had but I was mistaken.
Lol. Same here. It just installs apps that pertain to the topic you choose.

[Q] Increase benchmark scores

So I know most everyone says to ignore the scores and just go with if it feels good, but I'm trying to get my scores up for a friendly competition with a couple guys from work. Any suggestions so I can beat my friend's ATRIX?

He's on AT&T... so the ratio of dropped calls is exponential in comparison.
Odd. Cause on stock GB on both phones my x2 gets higher scores than my friends Atrix, otherwise they are pretty equal. We both have a decent amount of apps/widgets on our phones.
Yeah, but I found out he's overclocked, so its hardly a fair fight. Until we can match those speeds, I'm not going to worry about it.

Motoblur vs. Motorola UI

why does the bionic and DROID x have an updated Motorola UI vs. the atrix's Motorola blur. The new ui has more animations and a different app drawer. will we ever see this update?
Its still Moto blur technically. Motorola just changed the name. And they'll never all look the same. I mean the orange gb looks different from the att one in minor ways.

How's your GPS?

I am still thinking if getting this phone in a day or so how is this phones GPS for say geochaching and hiking?also compass say compared to the droid razr? Thks
Sent from my ADR6300 using xda app-developers app
GPS works very well especially if you are in an open area. but its slower in cities with tall building like chicago
I use it with Endomondo and it works great.
Ok thanks does the compass work good ? I am still debating between the razr and this one that's all

I think it might be the app, I did try that one and was having issues with it. Thats why i moved over to the other app, it just works alot better. The one down side is it cost 10 bucks but imo well worth it
Yah I looked on there website in the faq and it said if u are using cm there is a bug that is cms and it
Makes the app c:geo to not work right with Howard the caches from u so that makes it not very good for us
Sent from my ADR6300 using xda app-developers app
IMO, c:geo is the superior app except for the compass...it has never worked well for me on any ROM or phone. The official Geocaching app compass just works. It's just sad how much better the iOS version of the Geocaching app is. The iOS version from 2 years ago was better than the current Android version.
Doesn't really matter to me anymore though...I use a DeLorme handheld for geocaching now.
Thanks everyone I got a droid razr
Because of the battery and hdmi .
