To make a long story short... I let someone use my phone, they updated it to 2.3.4 . How do I obtain root privileges again? I don't need a step by step explanation. The quick version should get me on my way.
From what it seems I need to flash one of the Leaked SBF's? I just looked on the side of the box and I have S/W version 1.2.148.MB870. Do I need the SBF pertaining that that model?
Not to fear! You can root your OTA update and enjoy the benefits of 2.3.4! Google "Pete's one click root" and follow the instructions. It's VERY easy to do. Good luck.

As stated. Petes oneclick root method works fine.
But if u were EVER going to flash an sbf just make sure it is one you get from the X2 development forum ONLY.
If u try to flash an sbf for any other phone model u will be in for some trouble.

It was more of a cautionary statement to be careful if doing a search and you end up in the x forum by mistake seeing as they also have a gb sbf it can be dangerous when people just quick glance the forum they are in
I know I've almost made that mistake. Started to download the sbf and was like why doesn't this look right? Lol

Your best bet is probably just to flash to SBF 1.83. You can root from there using Gingerbreak

I can get the update now. I was part of the ATRIX 4G Pre-Release Software Test.
Problem is that I cant get software update since my phone is rooted.
search the forum and download sbf 183.
Then open the sticky thread how to flash sbf to your phone, and use the 183 file you found .
183 on mine didn't wipe my data..
So installed a clean 142 then update then flashed 183, root etc etc, and waiting for the 3.0 gingerblur!!!!!!!!
And I think that update increased wifi reception!!!

You can try the post above, flashing 1.83 sbf. Easy to do.
Or try unroot script within Gladroot

From my understanding, you can upgrade even if the phone's rooted as long as you don't have a custom theme or pseudo-ROM like GingerBlur or GladAtrix installed. You'll lose root though, so make sure you can re-root it.

And we don't have a sbf that gives us root anyway. If u sbf at all u r going to need to use the rooting methods again to regain root

Let's be clear. It's called Pete's Motorola Root Tools. ...and hyperlinks are your friend.
And just to clear some things up, SBFing has nothing to do with rooting. You don't SBF to root or root to SBF. One does not require the other.
SBFing means putting your phone back to a particular stock install which makes it no longer rooted. Hence, if you SBF to a stock image (2.2.2, 2.3.3, 2.3.4), you'll lose any root privileges you had and you'll have to re-root your phone.
SBFing requires having an application called RSDLite as well as a particular SBF image (Froyo - 2.2.2, Gingerbread - 2.3.3 or 2.3.4).
Rooting requires running an application such as Pete's Motorola Tools that allows you to have root access to your phone. This means you are unlocking the phone so you can perform various other functions, such as running Titanium Backup so you can backup not only applications, but the data associated with said applications. It also allows you to make other tweaks under the hood to help make your phone run better, such as running Zepplinrox's turbo charger scripts, adding the init.d hack to allow you to run various startup scripts when you reboot and last, but not least, it also allows you to flash ROMs on the phone.
Hopefully that clears some things up for you.

either flash a rom prerooted rom, or follow the instructions to root with adb in my eh03 odin thread
if you cant do either...well then perhaps rooting isnt for you

Yes, Odin cwm4 and download superclean eh03 and flash that via cwm. Wipe data cache and davlik before flashing.

as nitsuj17 posted, flashing deodexed eh03 rom is by far the easiest method. If you got your phone on 2.3.5 this should be easy...or is verizon finally ota updating 2.3.5 to the fascinates?
It's really not that hard at all. Follow this guide. It couldn't be any more simple than this.
If you just want to be rooted and leave your phone on gingerbread, follow section 5. It's very easy. If you're looking for something else, read his description carefully at the top.
Rooting and flashing is incredibly easy on this phone. If you're coming from the OG Droid for example, you're going to be blown away at how easy it is. Anyway, good luck and don't give up. It's really not over your head!

I know it can sound daunting, but it really isn't. Everthing you need to get to rooted version of GB (SuperClean3) can be found in the first 4 posts of this thread:

Follow the instructions step by step and you will be good to go. The advantages of both a rooted phone and a debloated/modded ROM are well worth the effort. I am a relative noob, and managed to get there in under 30 minutes.

I was looking for any information on how to root Droid X2 I looked in the list and did not find it listed I know what rooting your phone is and I understand the benefits and possible side effects if done incorrectly I have tried to do as much research as possible and am still not finding the answers I am looking for. I have jailbroken iphones and ipod touches as well as unlocked many phones. The droid X2 has me still confused as to where even to begin the process of i have seen people call it Pre-rooting. I dont know what I should use as far as the rooting app with what my system is running nor can I seem to find anything on 2.3.4. hopefully maybe someone here can give me a step by step process to follow for what I need to have on my phone as far as apps software and so fourth to get my phone rooted. I have put all my phone information below. any advice tips or instructions would be much appreciated. I am a beginner at all of this new technology and am just trying to get into it so I am lousy with the abrev. like SPFing OTA ROM Nandroid?? Also Froyo dont really get where I can find any specific how to's on knowing what they do where you can find them what they mean. Check out the stickies and they will take you to guides depending if your on froyo (2.2) or GB (2.3). If your on froyo, I suggest upgrading by OTA (over the air) by going under menu, phone info, and upgrade. Then use the guides under the stickies to do zerg rush or Pete's one click root. The Ginger break doesn't work on our GB, I know, weird, but oh well. But use zerg or Pete rooting methods to root
You will know you have root by seeing super user app in your apps
Namdroids are back ups. It takes a "screen shot" of your whole system and saves it so you can restore and have everything EXACT how it was before! I use multiple nandroids to "dual boot" different ROMs. You can make nandroids with tenfars version of clockwork mod. You will need to install it after you root. It should tell you where and how in the guide you use.

Go to the first post in devs section by booked. He has it all. Use Pete's one click root can not get any easier first. Then you can flash a custom rom just remember you need to wipe data and both cache in recovery. Also a nano back up is basically where you go into recovery and back up the rom where you are at that time. That wah if you mess up you can always go back. But yes go to that thread and read. I bought 2 Droid X2’s, one for my son and me. I rooted the phones successfully using Pete’s One Click Method (I think). Then I installed Titanium Backup Pro.
A few months later we installed the Droid X2 latest version 2.3.5, not knowing it would unroot our phones. All my research on xdadevelopers tells me I have to reflash the phones back to the manufacturers stock/original system boot file - is this correct? And, is this the sticky/thread that tells me how to do this? Do I follow the op's (daywalker04) post down to the letter when doing so?
To do this, all I have is a Mac OS X version 10.6.8. Thanks to all for your help.

There's also a way to root 2.3.5 either with zergrush which I haven't tried or using voodoo ota root keeper and than updating. Hopefully this steers you the right direction.

depends on what you want, generally 2.3.4 is preferred so you have the latest firmware try

True - I didn't fully explain what I was trying to do in my op, sorry.
After inadvertently unrrooting my phones by installing 2.3.5, I'm trying to get them rooted again with 2.3.5 installed. I guess my confusion lies in the fact that everything I've read says I have to sbf back to original boxed version. My question is if the original boxed version was 2.3.3, is that what I have to revert back to, or can I go to 2.3.4?

Thanks sd, I'm going to read and study the entire thread: HowTo: Perform a SBF ("factory restore") of your Motorola Droid X2.
Another question. The "HowTo" method uses Windows, can I follow the exact same procedure using Mac OS X?
