Where's Samsung Apps? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I'm a brand new owner of the AT&T GS2. And a newbie to Android as well. Supposedly I should be able to open the Samsung Apps widget and download/install some free games (Asphalt 6 for example). But I can't for the life of me seem to find the Samsung Apps widget. Can anybody tell me where to find it? Many thanks in advance.

Where did you hear that?
The Thrill came with 3 free 3D games, Asphalt being one of them. Nova and Let's Golf being the others.
Could you have mixed them up? The Thrill is a dual core android phone that released on att last month.

And here's the official link:
http://www.samsungapps.com/topApps/topAppsDetail.as?productId=G00001437463#
But when I click "How to Get", it shows that I need to click the "Samsung Apps" widget or icon to connect. But I don't see it on my phone.

#blameatt
they have never included the Samsung Apps on the carrier bloated roms.
if you want those apps, you will have to get them from the i9100

Yeah, your link says its included in the i9100, i9000 and i9003. Ours I'd the i777. That means none of the US versions will get it. Att isn't the only carrier not to include them.
Sent from my SGS II

You'll have to wait till a dev incorporates it into their ROM. That's how I got them on my cappy.

Damn, I want that free game.

Galaxy Core Live Wallpaper

Hey guys,
Since I am making a post here, you can probably tell that I have an AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 2.
A friend of mine has a Galaxy S 2 on Sprint which comes equipped with a "Galactic Core Live Wallpaper" . I know that there is an app on the Marketplace called Galaxy Core Live Wallpapers which has about 10-15 other live wallpaper, but the quality and the animation in this application is just not the same as the original stock wallpaper on Sprint and T-Mobile Galaxy S 2s
I was wondering if there is a way to port this particular wallpaper from the Sprint or T-Mobile version to use on AT&T.
Again, I know about the application on Marketplace by A.O.I Studio but its just not the same
Thank you
I have Galaxy Core Free installed on my SGS2 running Unnamed and it hasn't given me any problems. The graphics are smooth and detailed with no artifacts. Are you running a non-standard ROM? When I installed CM9 on my SGS2 for testing the graphics on this wallpaper were not nearly as detailed. It might be a driver issue.
Nah its the stock ROM. I just have it rooted. The graphics and animations were just fine with the application but compared to the original it doesnt measure up. But I guess its the best I can get!
and I am only looking for the Galactic Core Live Wallpaper - not the other wallpapers that come with the application.
Thank You
Shouldn't the apk pulled from the Sprint's SGSII work just by installing it (no porting)? Maybe post a request for the apk over on their forums.

I have no idea. My friend with the Sprint S2 is 'noobier' than me and didnt wanna root his phone. So he cant use Titanium Backup Pro to backup the wallpaper. but I will try the Sprint forum and ask there.
Thanks
it should be easily taken out of one of the stock sprint sgs2 roms. but maybe someone will isolate the .apk for you.
the galactic core live wallpaper by kittehface software is much better than the one you are referring to, imo
yeah it is pretty cool I agree, but its still a personal preference.
The galactic core application by AOI has almost the exact same live wallpaper but if you compare it to the original stock live wallpaper its just not the same:
I posted this thread on the Sprint forums too:

Yeah, I've submitted two threads about this (one here, one at Androidcentral) to see if anyone knew where I could get it. Of course, I had my Note earlier than most people so it was a bit premature and the threads got buried. I really want the Video maker app. It looks like iMovie.
Theres a thread about the video app on here already, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1496452 Unfortunately the .apk doesn't work

Funny you say that, you think Samsung is worried about additional legal battles with the litigious Apple if they include this Movie Maker app in the US market (like the physical home button issue)?
I'd appreciate a better understanding of the rationale behind all these differences between the SGNote models.
I'd heard a rumor that this missing Movie Maker app as well as missing screen mode may not run well on the AT&T Galaxy Note I717 hardware hence they were removed but the rumor remains totally uncorroborated..

I would LOVE to adjust the display settings, the colors need to come way down. Most people love that colors POP but being oversaturated is such a turn off for me. I didnt even know you could adjust on any phone
I WANT THIS FEATURE!
It could have been an issue with the different processor/GPU in the LTE version versus the International. Maybe they could get the apps to play nice with their own internals but couldn't get them to work right with Qualcomm's?

I agree. Some colors, like the cnn.com red header seem over saturated and neon.
But I still love my Note. Setting up my old iPhone4 for my daughter as an iPod and the screen was soooo small. I felt like a toy. No way I could go back.

Disappointing, that Video maker app for the SGNote added an easy mobile way for some mediated / augmented reality post video editing with the S-Pen.. another reason to get the international Galaxy Note GT-N7000 if you can live without LTE & can afford paying the unsubsidized but contractless price.
Please let us know if anyone gets it working on AT&T Galaxy Note I717 .. -Thnx

Well the international Galaxy Note GT-N7000 has it now, not sure if the AT&T Galaxy Note I717 will get ever get it.
When I checked out the SGNote in an AT&T store on its release date the Samsung rep was there & I asked him where screen mode & the Video Maker app were & he sadly did not know what I was talking about but I was hoping XDA could get it working from the N7000 but perhaps it's incompatible with the I717 hardware.
I told him I was going to wait at least until after MWC before deciding on my upgrade & I mentioned Samsung should also announce the Galaxy Note 10.1 there which he acknowledged but said he will not get to play with the 10.1 until he is there next week & he said he's had the AT&T Galaxy Note I717 for over a month.
I'd started a thread back in December regarding SAMOLED's unnatural colors vs IPS' more natural colors & while I of course would also like to have screen mode options like I do on my Samsung TVs , it didn't seem to bother me on the SGNote higher res screen like it does on lower res SAMOLED but I'll have to check it out again.
I'm eager to hear about MWC news & the Samsung Galaxy III & even curious about what Ubuntu will present as many Android devices could more easily become full desktop functional PCs when wanted as well.
I just tried to install the VideoEditor apk on my rooted note and the installation failed... I hope someone finds a way to install it on our Notes...
Samsung confirms its absence is due to chipset incompatabilites:

Can anyone recommend a comparable app?

Rogers Samsung Galaxy S2 flashing with stock ICS rom

Hi guys:
I want to get a Galaxy S2 from Rogers, and I was wondering if I can flash the stock stock stock ICS rom onto the GS2 (I'm not a fan of the touchwiz)
Thanks
Bill
No you can't because the Rogers Galaxy SII is a different phone that uses a different chipset, making it incompatible with the ICS rom.
Even if you got the Bell one, which is the international variant, there are no fully functional stock ICS roms yet. If it's what you want, get yourself a Galaxy Nexus.
Sorry I should I have made it a bit clear, what I meant is, can I flash the phone with a stock version of the android operating system? since I'm not a fan of the touchwiz, nor am I a fan of the Rogers apps that they install on the phone.
(Or can I turn off TouchWiz?)
Thanks!
Instead of TouchWiz launcher, you can find other launchers in Google Play (Market). I've used ADW laucher ex (small cost) and Go Launcher (free) with great success.
I really don't care for TouchWiz either. Limited number of icons in the launch bar across the bottom and it doesn't handle my custom lcd density.
I'm running the Roger's branded Samsung Galaxy SII LTE (sgh-i727r).
I realize this question was posted a while ago but hopefully my response is of some assistance.
Good luck.

FYI, you should probably be looking for help/information/firmware/etc in the SGH-I727 forum, not the GT-I9100 forum... I know the forum title actually says "AT&T Skyrocket", but it's the same phone, (SGH-I727) really...
I'm not the OP, just replying since I have the device the OP was considering.
You are right however, that most of the content related to Galaxy SII Skyrocket (sgh-i727) applies to the Rogers branded Galaxy SII device.

[Q] Galaxy Nexus Or SGS III in terms of Android custom Rom?

Hello everyone,
I did a little research before opening new thread, but I couldn't find anything simiral to my question.
So,my question now!I am planning to buy an Android Device. And yes like most of the people I am in a dilemma. Now before you hasten to answer my question let me explain this : I am not looking for an answer according to hardware specs or any kind of benchmarks. What I am looking for is the following :
I really like the stock look of the ICS(yes the one that Galaxy Nexus has).So I was wondering if there is anyway to get rid of the Touchwiz from Galaxy SGSIII.After a small Google research that I did it seems that a user is not able to get rid of Touchwiz unless it replace it with another Launcher like the Launcher Pro.So what I found out that the only way to do this is to flash the phone with a custom rom, which will not contain any OEM launchers or any other third party launchers. To make this clear once and for all I am not lloking any kind of launcher that will make SGS III look like Galaxy Nexus's stock launcher,I am looking only for the stock launcher only.
So I was wondering if there is any custom rom to get rid of touchwiz and leave all the other goodies that Samsung has included like the Smart-Stay(the one that tracks your eyes in order to keep the screen on),All share,etc,... in SGS III or the only way is to buy the Nexus?
If you buy the SIII you can simply install Nova Launcher or Apex Launcher (Both available in the Play Store).
Both those launchers look exactly like the one found on the Galaxy Nexus, just with more options for customization.
Installing the launcher will hide the Touchwiz Launcher, but leave other parts of Touchwiz/Samsung software intact (Such as the smart-stay feature, S Voice, etc.).
Okay I have two questions.First,is it possible with these two launchers to have the three buttons(back button, home button and the multitask button) like the Nexus has?(Yes I know that the SGS III has the same three dedicated buttons, but I really love those three Nexus buttons)Second, are this launchers consume too much Ram or they will work without lags like touchwiz?
Okay,I know that I am not allowed to do this, but I am posting this to give to my thread a little push.Yes I know I am not the only memebr in this forum and there are 4 milllion other members.
use the search button maybe some devs at the s3 forum made one already
dude people did compare these two phones many times already.
and... unless you are a higher ranked, people most likely avoid you.
the s3 is sexy, big and yes i had hands on. Gnex is also sexy and yes i had hands on. The s3 is a little more advance so it gets a plus, but the galaxy nexus would be my choice because i look in the long run. Gnex gets updates first and its google's flagship phone as iphone is to apple.
Gnexs are coming next week preloaded with jelly bean while some people dont have ics yet. If you are like some people who can afford to buy a new phone every month then get the s3, but if you plan to go the two years get gnex
So the S2 is out of the question? The S2 probably has more custom rom than both put together (or it would at lease be close )

Should I buy a Galaxy Player?

I am looking for a device mainly as a VOIP device. I can get a Galaxy samsung S for around 70-100 around here average from craigslist but was also considering a player 4.0 or 5.0 - problem is the 4.0s go for a little bit more (right now I have a guy willing sell me his mint one for $85). However, I've seen the 5.0 for around 120-150 refurbished or like new used and really like 5" screen. What would you guys do?

Do you also want to use it in long trips or for GPS? If then the extra battery capacity from the galaxy player 5 suits the needs. Because honestly all of the following works perfectly well for a VOIP. Also if you are looking for development support from XDA you might consider the galaxy s. I would personally get the galaxy s because of the better custom roms and the capability of using a backup battery, which a player 5 cannot do

The Galaxy Player 4.0 is based on the Galaxy S1 so I'd go with the S1 because there are way more devs for it. Spec vs Spec the only thing in favor of the GP 4.0 is that it has duel stereo speakers and that's about it lol. The S1 has a much better screen and better camera. Now the 5.0 is a little different. It has of course the Screen Size, LED Flash, and a much bigger battery. Also it has a bit more devs, however it's screen is actually worse than the 4.0's and it uses a Yamaha DAC so it's sound quality isn't as nice as the GP4.0/S1 (whom use the same DAC). So like I said go for the S1 and be careful shopping on craiglist.
5.0 is worth it with reservations - old rom and no updates

hi
I've already bought a 5.0 from new and overall I'm reasonably impressed. It's a good vivid player with all the flexibility of Android to boot and a microSD card slot!.
I decided to purchase a separate music device rather than run my phone that way to avoid running my battery down...
However I would warn you that for the UK version that I bought, it seems to be stuck running Android 2.2.2 with no sign of an update any time this century. It's starting to be restrictive with regards to apps. Furthermore although some will tell you "just root it and update the rom"...I've yet to see a simple (for a noob) rooting process and set of roots that would at least match the stability of the stock version for the 5.0/4.0.
I've searched the fora and there's a lot of info to digest....
Did you try superoneclick?

Just some food for thought. I noticed that the Galaxy Player line is no longer available to buy, brand new, from Amazon (only third party sellers) and that Best Buy shows any of the players as "not available for shipping". I was curious what was going on and begin to find that it is possible the Galaxy Player line is being entirely discontinued. I hated to hear this, but think it is important to keep in mind as Dev support could become continuously smaller - it isn't large by any means at the moment.
If you are okay with the possibility of no support outside of forums, I would say to go for it. They are great devices as media players and even a type of 'wifi only' phone. Good luck with your decision!

Good choice you should be careful buying a used galaxy though. They are notorious for the power button breaking. There's a workaround however by installing an app where you can turn it on with a volume button.

I looked up kies mini and it seems they are device specific, I've installed kies regular and it says I'm on the latest firmware already.
I know I could try updating to 2.3 with Odin, and from what I understand that would be to the stock 2.3.5 that the US 5.0 Wi-Fi comes with. This is how: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3EYjIyVXRGM
I just don't know if it might break something, is there a big improvement to updating to gingerbread? Like how is the performance?

uninstall Kies regular and try Kies mini. mini upgrades basically all the galaxy s products so it's safe to assume that it would work on the gp. plus it was mentioned by Samsung themselves in order to upgrade the galaxy players.
gingerbread is not exactly a huge improvement in terms of performance, but it gets way better app compatibility. for example you don't need to root your gp if you want to use the power button alternative if the button ever breaks. and it's a more appealing to the buyer's eyes.
um... that's all the differences I know of

If you want stable look for custom roms that are based off of stock, like Chip v1.5. These ones provide mostly, if not, all the features that are available for the default rom and provide extra features. Check this out for more details. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1720457
