Blurry lock screen wallpapers - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, I've got an image (800 x 1200 px) that I would like as my lock screen image on the standard Samsung lockscreen but when I use the native lock screen cropping the image ends up blurry. Is there a way to optimize the image using Photoshop or something similar for a crisp image?
And do I make the image exactly 480x800 or do I compensate for the status bar?
Thanks guys

I've encountered this problem on the home screen wall chooser too. Some problem with the way android down samples the image. It compresses the pic as well i think.
480x800 is fine, you dont need to compensate for the status bar, unless there's something important that's blocked by it.

960x800 is the size of scrollable wallpaper. 480x800 for non-scrollable, just like the above mentioned lockscreen.

Wallpaper cropping SUCKS on the 3D

Ok, really really hope that I am missing something obvious here. When ever I choose a wallpaper to set, it makes me zoom in WAY too much . Wallpapers that I used a lot on my Evo4G are now just 1/3 showing on my 3D. Is there something that I'm missing here, or what is the problem, and is there a solution? This is really the ONLY thing that is frustrating me about this awesome phone.
The new carousel feature makes it so wallpapers are static. And I dont know why most become so zoomed in.

You need to size the wallpapers to the phones resolution.

yep need qHD resolutions
I felt the same way about wallpapers on the 3D until I saw someone suggest HD Wallpapers from the market and this has been a good solution for me as far as wallpapers go. Lots of great HD pics and no cropping, you just select the pic and that's it.

Mikey B's 3D
Also noticed after a while for whatever reason, the wallpaper will zoom way in, and when you go to re crop it the size of the cropping tool is squared and no longer rectangle. A reboot fixes it and the wallpaper is zoomed back out. I suppose it could be the rom im using which Chogardjr3d.
Try wallpaper wizardrii in from the market! Great for setting pictures as wallpaper and automatically sizes it for your screen!

wallpaper set and save is a must have for any sense device. lets you set pics as wallpapers at native res with NO cropping.
Figured out today what may be causing the wallpaper to blow way up. Probably the same problem when the home screen gets stuck on 3d when you hit the back button from the camera too fast. Its the only time my wallpaper gets huge and when I go to change it the cropping feature is double the size as well. Only way to get it back to normal is open camera and back out slowly or reboot.

Wallpaper Size?

1920x1080 according to this wallpaper Asus provided.
1920x1280. problem is finding a background that looks good the way HC/ICS crops the image. If you pick something were the focus is close up and fills the screen it looks like crap when you crop it. The key is to choose a background were the focus is smaller and takes up less real estate, that way when you crop it you get what looks like a full image on your display.
1920x1408
You can find allot of info about wallpapers and Android cropping if you do a search. Take a look in the Galaxy tab/xoom/transformer section and you will find different ways on how to set wallpaper.
I personally like the app "wallpaper slideshow" no cropping.
place the image you like in a separate folder. Can place many pictures here and you can change your wallpaper with a dubbel tapp on the homescreen.
choose to set a live wallpaper and select wallpaper slideshow.
choose the folder you made.

Use Multipic live wallpaper. No matter what size pic you use, it'll line it up perfectly.

Anyone know the exact dimensions the wallpaper has to be for it to retain 1080p and also use the entire wallpaper instead of making you crop the wallpaper.

This would be good, but we don't have scrolling home screens to see the whole wallpaper yet. Do we?

Try the Wallbase app. By far the best and biggest selection of HD wallpapers.

THIS. No one is answering this question. I keep seeing people talk about their 1080p walls, but no one mentions that it seems to force an annoying crop. I want full 1080x1920! If no one else answers, I'm going to see if I can figure it out when I get home tonight.

Yea I mean the stock wallpapers that come with the phone are 2160x1920 and they still require cropping if you manually set them as a wallpaper via gallery.
So yeah, 2160x1080 works. What I did was I just found a good 1920x1080 image, rotated it, doubled the width and made sure the image was centered. I put together a pack of 8 abstract wallpapers if anyone is interested.

There is an app called wallpaper wizardii it does something so you don't have to crop the image to fit the screen I used it on my galaxy tab 10.1 might be worth giving a shot on here

Adw has scrolling wallpapers, you have to activate the wallpaper scroll hack under advanced settings.

Not sure if 720x1080 works for backgrounds, 480x800 gives you a smaller outer edge,
looks better (i think)

I always use image2wallpaper or crop wallpaper app to crop and apply wallpaper. Of course those walls resolution are at least = screen height.

please, can you share that template, I searched a lot but couldn't find one....
and do you know if the notification bar cropped from the wallpaper automatically or I should exclude it?
I know from my SII,if the wallpaper is not match your screen size, you will not get a good result (samsung resize the wallpaper really bad),I'm not sure if this is the case in Note II too, but I think its better to get wallpaper fit your phone by yourself.
I hope I'll get my note2 soon, and I'm preparing for some wallpaper...any help appreciated.
thanks,

Setting background/lock screen in 4.2.2

Few questions about setting my backgrounds. I just installed the super nexus Rom. First, I can't figure out how to set a lock screen picture at all. It's just transparent to my home screen pic.. can't figure how to do it separate. And second.. I can't figure out how to set a stationary full size background. I have a portrait style picture that I want as my backgrounds but any way I try it forces me to crop it and zooms in on the picture way too far.
Thanks
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
im not on this rom so not sure if that is a good answer for you......but in most roms im assuming it would be under settings>customization or rom control>lock screen>background. from there there should be some options like fill color, custom image and default wallpaper.
you can use QuickPic to choose a wallpaper and crop it o how you like and you can use a launcher like Apex or Nova and uncheck wallpaper scroll.

your on supernexus dont expect cm type features its meant to be an AOSP feel, as for cropping thats also part of aosp haha and many other roms... but a way around that is to either use
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...50YW1hbmVnaS53YWxscGFwZXIubXVsdGlwaWN0dXJlIl0.
or
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...S50d2lzdGVkYXBwcy53YWxscGFwZXJ3aXphcmRyaWkiXQ..
both apps can apply full wallpapers without the need to crop
I'm realizing that super nexus is super basic, huh.
Haha yeah maybe I'll take a look at the other roms. For now wallpaper wizardry did the trick along with magic lock app but kind of unnecessary.. :/
