[Q] New and I need some help - Motorola Droid X2

Ok, So pretty much what I have here is the Droid x2 and I want to root it, BUT, I don't know how and I don't want to screw my phone up, so I'm looking for someone to explain in detail step by step how to do it because then I can do it on my own from there, any help would be great, i'm just looking for a textbook definition and a simple step by step process on how to do this without bricking my phone, again any help with be great thanks.

I think you may find this thread useful, if not have a good look around the Droid Incredible forums as this thread came from there.

I was just looking for someone who could explain how to root and the whole process kinda from scratch because there are hundreds of threads to look through and that's just asking for eye sores.. I'm just looking for someone who can explain how to get the files I need and the whole process in a simple 1,2,3 step manner...

Read the sticky in the dev forum, there's different ways depending on what android version you have.

go there.
It says one click root for droid3 but it is same for all moto devices running gingerbread.
just be sure u are on Android version 2.3.3 or 2.3.4
U can verify ur android version by going to settings >about phone> android version
if u are on 2.2.2 then press the button on top of about phone that says system updates and follow instructions to update ur phone to gingerbread(2.3.x)
Good luck and make sure to follow ALL directions EXACTLY (feel free to pm me if u need help)

Thanks a lot, I'll take a look at it.

Ok, so I used the one click root and it worked... now im wondering, now that its rooted, What can i do with it, say change the button lay out and other stuff like that the theme, and so on

You can run ROMs on your phone now using boot strap recovery. I use Eclipse but there are other great ROMs available as well. Just make sure you understand what version of android each ROM works with.
Here is a thread to help you understand our recovery.

Do u mean the hardkey layout? I haven't seen a mod for that yet but it may be possible.
U can also now remove/freeze the bloat u don't use if u want((u know...those pesky apps that keep running even after u kill em. Taking up ram and just getting on ur nerves cuz u can't kill it. Like blockbuster, kindle, etc...)) there is a list in the forum of which are safe to freeze/remove.
Just be sure to read before u try. Then read again. Then some more. Then when u feel u r comfortable with what the mod does to ur phone, make sure u follow all directions EXACTLY and have fun and enjoy the different available mods, scripts, hacks, and of course Roms. U will be addicted in no time to flashing roms and making nandroid backups.
O yeah. Best thing u could EVER do right now is MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP using system recovery app from the link above. Trust me. U will be happy u did it when u end up needing one as we all have at one point.
I also recommend posting any question u have in this thread or a thread that pertains to ur question as starting a new thread wit a question that's been asked a hundred times wont get a good reaction

Dude, this is the reason that we have 4 million threads per forum. Read the stickies and make sure that your in the right section before posting something new. Look in the Dev section of the 2 forum for everything you need to know.

Dude this is the reason noobs are afraid to post. No need to be harsh
And I remember not to long ago people were complaining cuz there wasn't enough activity in this forum lol
OP was looking for help. U could have at least posted a link for something to help.
he posted in the CORRECT forum. If this was in the dev section I would have responded similar but it is in GENERAL.

wasnt necessarily trying to be a debbie downer but take a look a the dev forum and you will see threads galore for how to root.
however I did notice that there is no guide on how to root 2.3.4.
Edit: now there is a tutorial for rooting 2.3.4

Noobs shouldn't post. They should read and read more, and when they're done..read it again. Most don't even try. They want it given to them. I, and i only speak for myself, will not support that.

O well...
I find that "noobs' are more or less "afraid" that they will brick and are just looking for info and guidance on how NOT to do that.
But that's the great thing about these types of forums. If u don't wanna help then don't. There is no need to be mean. Im not saying that u or booked were outright mean but if u can see that the OP has already been pointed in the direction and/or is receive help them why post telling him to do everything himself when he obviously doesn't have to. I was a noon my self at one point and yeah I did a TON of reading and rereading but some things don't set in until its said specifically and I have asked my fair share of "noob" questions also. Everyone has to start somewhere.
I don't even know where im going with this other than just be respectful and be nice lol

I creeped these forums (and all others) for a good 6 months before I even laid my first post. I googled everything, and READ! And you know what? I learned a fair amount.
The last month has been horrible. You see the same question/scenario in almost every subforum on here. The problem is, Android exploded as well as "modding" and became popular, and now everybody is tinkering.
I've only been involved with android for a year and a half, but when I got in it was almost a 'niche' cult type of thing. It was kind of uncool because it wasn't an iPhone. I loved it, I actually miss it. I remember showing my friends what a DROID 1 was capable of with a custom overclocked kernel.
Android, why did you get so big? Come back...

Why do people keep asking what the status is on the Touch Pro 2? Check the threads!

I am putting this up in favor of the devs. I am not a dev myself, but I certainly respect what they are doing! What I can't stand are the people who keep asking dumb questions, like: when will this be fully working? Or: What is the status of android on touch pro 2? Look at the threads! If you took the time to look, you would know that there is still work to be done. Again, thank you devs!

Noobs will be noobs and there will never be a shortage of them lol, not much you can do about it. That's what I've learned with forums.
Noobs will be Noobs is right. I actually think the status updates have been very frequent and easy to navigate. (even for people like me that haven't been around much lately! :O )

Pretty sure a guide like that should be stickied with the rest of those threads at the top... that would be veryy helpful. I would be very confused too coming into the android threads for the first time.

Maybe at the "download your files here" section, say that the users don't necesarily need to know how those files work and what exactly they do, just that they are needed parts for android to work. Just trying to think if I was a beginner and what might confuse or overwhelm me. Just a suggestion but it probably wouldn't make a difference. Other than that I just wonder who needs to be told in order to get this thing stickied. This is kind of the equivelant of the thread in the WinMo section on flashing ROMs for noobs.

What's new? What did I miss?

Like most people I got busy the last few weeks and now I feel like I'm completely lost to what's new. I tried finding websites listing all the new things that have happened but was unable.
I think having a thread listing all the new developments would be appreciated by many and would eliminate a lot of threads.
So since 1.83 I've been able to figure out that ginger bread is now available but you can't do the OTA update if you root, so a post saying ginger bread is out and how to install it would probably help a lot of people.
I know that web2sd is also working now and it allows you to put linux on your sd card.
This would be a good thread to mention the bootloader was cracked.
I haven't learned it all yet but would gladly explain more if I could.
If someone can elaborate on anything it would help.
An explanation on what pudding is would help me and I'm sure a lot of other people.

Listen, the point of these bulletin boards are to post "new developments". We spend our time posting, so the least you could do is read through our posts.
I'm not trying to be rude, I'm just not going to waste my time repeating what has already been posted in multiple threads.
This would also be a good thread to let people know about the hard brick issues with flashing, I still need to figure all that out before I say anything but it seems like you shouldn't preform any OTA updates after flashing to ginger bread?
I just think this thread would save a lot of peoples time instead of going through 30 pages of posts to figure everything out.
I'll explain as much as I can so people can just reference a post in this thread instead of digging through the original post.

That's the idea of this thread, to prevent multiple threads by just explaining it once here, so when someone wants to know what the deal is with something they read one post in here instead of sifting through the original.
I'm not trying to be rude either but you wasted some time posting that. I just thought this would make it easier on people and prevent multiple threads.
You dont have to help or if you already said it somewhere post the link and I'll explain it.
Edit: I think people would agree it's daunting to try and read all the posts in the past month to make sure you do everything in the right order to get the newest updates when you could reference this thread and learn it a lot faster.
Trust me, it would make things easier to read one thread than dozens and I've already read multiple "how to"threads when this one could have answered their question

How do you know if my Droid X2 is Liberty or Eclipse?

Whats the difference on them or what I don't get it thanks in advance!!
Eclipse and liberty are just roms that you can flash onto your x2 if you have rooted your phone. If you or someone you know hasn't personally put them on your phone, then you'll have neither. It isn't something that would be on there from the manufacturer.

yes sir..u are VERY right.
all I am trying to say is try to NOT be harsh...some things can read harsher than intended when type.
im not trying to say u didn't or that no one is trying to help out.
but it is also inevitable, that people no matter what they have read, will still need that little bit of "extra" info on "what to do now"
especially since our X2 can be picky with what you do or the process you use to do it
I really just said what I did in hope to "preempt" any "mean spirited" replies.
imagine how u would like to be answered when entering a site and following the rules at least to not post questions in dev section and u really don't understand all these : ROM, SBF, OTA, root, p3's, su, busybox, CWM, bootstrap, recovery, stock, modded, etc... words and what they mean.
now im DEFINITELY NOT saying go ahead and write out exactly everything the person needs to do. I am just saying don't be harsh. not that u were. or anyone else in this thread((yet))
just saying a bit of guidance and clarification on things asked is nice to see....basically common courtesy.....
imagine how u felt or I felt or anyone feels entering this "world" of flash addicts who do this every day lol.
((now if this was posted in dev forum as new thread I would call the DAWGS and say have at em for not reading the rules at all Hahaha))(
I am sorry ..this post has gotten longer than intended and I have succumbed to rambling and being off topic. ....

Please Help HTC Amaze Failed Flash

Hello,
I gave my phone to a friend who rooted my HTC Amaze 4G and installed a Blue Rom, I believe which is called Team Win Recover Project v2.0.0
It worked for a couple of days I tried charging the phone and it seems to not want to hold a charge. I used a HTC Sensation 4g battery and the device came on but it will not boot. When I put the HTC Amaze 4g battery in the HTC Sensation 4g phone it shows up as charging.
I lost the original sd card so I believe I lost part of the rom.
I just want to get back to a stock rom how the phone was before the root.
I have no idea what to do but I am technologically inclined so if anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it, I however am going to search the forums on what to do.
thank you,

I love you GlacierGuy. Hit the nail on the head.
To the OP, here is about all the help you need: (and you still need to find your own answers)
You're using the wrong recovery, or at least not the one I think most people here use: are you sure you have an amaze? If so, some guy named glacier something posted a very good thread about a really great recovery(there's a big hint!)
Finding the original RUU might be a little harder, but the guy who posts them is named Football. If you read his signature is has a link to all his leaks - find the one called ruby(our phone) and if you want gingerbread then download and install one of the ones NOT uploaded recently - and do what glacier said, and search for HOW to install it(hint, if you try to just flash it without reading it either won't work, or you'll end up with a messed up phone).
So there, now you have an idea on WHAT to look for - but you still gotta go do the legwork yourself(just like every single person here who has an awesome phone with awesome-sauce2.0+ running on it!)
If you seemed like you did SOME research before posting I would give you credit, it isn't EASY to find the answers - but that is mainly because so many people ask questions rather than doing the research themselves FIRST.

I'm MUCH more inclined to help someone if they have already accomplished SOMETHING that says they can follow basic instructions(installed the leak, got s-off, something) or they did SOME sort of research.. but most of the time if I give any kind of answer it is JUST to keep there from being another thread that asks a question with no answer. Those are what makes searching a pain in the ass for me at least!

Like the majority of us, we were excited when we got out SIII's however all the information you need is contained with the SIII walls on this particular corner of XDA. What people are suggesting is you take a look for yourself first and have a read of all things before asking such a question as the answer is but a quick look around.
So, instead of spoon feeding, go for a wander and have a look. You will be amazed at all the info there.
Find the latest leak firmware and use odin to flash it on ur phone

As Mr Tuff said......we at XDA are here to serve you and all your smartphone needs. please put your phone into download mode open Odin and click repartition and add any random .Tar file ( jellybean will be in there somewhere, have faith ) then click start.
now once you do this you will need to send your phone off to a repair shop where they will activate your newely installed JB build on your phone.
then just wait.........
Hope this helps......................................Probably will not though, lol

Honestly, and I'm not saying this to be rude to you in any way. But more a concern when reading your posts.
You honestly don't sound like someone who should start messing with flashing and rooting........

What he said.
If you can't follow those excellent HOWTOs & FAQs you surely DON'T want to flash your phone. If you have a specific question, ask in the thread about flashing and installing. This here won't help you a bit.

Ya, I agree with this.
Op, just enjoy your phone for now the way it is, the JB leaks are not for people with little experience in these matters.
Hang around xda for a while and learn how things work here, learn why making these threads is frowned upon, read through the JB threads, learn from them.
Then, when you feel comfortable enough to flash it on your own, you are ready to give it a go.

Thread closed, we are not here to spoonfeed you, search and read.
On another note, let's NOT start personally attacking people, report, ignore DO NOT RESPOND.
I understand your frustration, do you know what poor sod has to close all these threads?
But thats not an excuse to flout the rules, and bash people, be calm, be cool, IGNORE and report!
Now carry on and have a happy XDA experience (tm)
