Qwerty Androids? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys.
Im on t-mobile right now and i really want a qwerty keyboard android. I want to be up to date, but speed isnt EVERYTHING for me. Please help. Im using a MT4G right now and i really want a physical keyboard. Any suggestions or upcoming phones??
Thanks in advance
Remember! Im only 13. Gimme a break!

There is a bunch of QWERTY keyboards available for T-Mobile. But the most recent ones are the Samsung Gravity Smart, myTouch 4g Slide, the Side-Kick 4g, almost all the Blackberries, and the Motorola CLIQ 2. My personal favorite is the myTouch 4G Slide.

Old School...but a few survivors!

I am missing my QWERTY keyboard ;-( Had a Droid 3 for awhile, now have the bionic. My fingers are just too fat I think for this screen typing stuff ;-)

How about the ones like the Blackberry keyboard and Android touch screen ?
I see Samsung Replenish has it but it's CDMA

I wanna stick with android. I guess a QWERTY is a MUUST. So are there any upcoming AMAZING phones for T-Mo?
Remember! Im only 13. Gimme a break!

Okay, since you're 13, I'm guessing a cost effective phone is best for you and your parents. The sidekick 4G is only $30 (I think) at WalMart and $80 on the online t-mo store ON CONTRACT. It has decent (1GHZ 512MB RAM and a 3.5 inch screen) specs and has the best keyboard I've ever seen on an Android phone (it's 5 rows with a dedicated number row)
And if you're really into android, we have a couple of ROMS available if you root.
The Mytouch q and the LG Doubleplay are coming out later, but they both have qwertys and are pretty good.
Or you can go with the beastly MT4G Slide, but it's $200 on contract.
Are you on contract, or are just looking to pay full price for a phone?

IMO Moto Droid 3 (Milestone 3) is the best option currently available
(dual core, qHD, 8Mpix, 1080p video, front cam)
I've long wished for a QWERTY flagship from HTC, Moto or Sony,
but they seem to have forgotten that market (at least their high-end flagship phones)
I'll have to get my finger used to screen typing or otherwise settle with their mid-range not-so-bleeding-edge QWERTY phones offer

I need Help!!!!! LG LW 690 AKA Optimus C
Hey guys not sure where to post this, there are no forums for my phone. Seems no one really has any info on my phone. I hope somone can help me. I have an LG LW 690, AKA, Optimus C through Cricket. I know my first mistake is having Cricket as my carrier, but $60.00 a month for unlimited talk, text and data and insurance cant be beat. I rooted this Android with Gingerbreak V1.20 worked like a charm. No problems what so ever. After a week or so, I tried flashing ROM with Rom Manager, I was unaware of the consequences that were to follow. After Flashing it said something like "flash completed successfully," upon rebootit froze. and is now "BRICKED."
It does not shut off unless battery is removed, it will not boot past lg icon.
I heard that if I removed the back that on the motherboard there are two terminals that I can attach capactitors to and it will force jump start the Android. Does anyone know about this. I have nothing to lose doing this, because right now, I have a $220.00 piece of metal, I cant use. Any help would be appreciated. Email me [email protected]

Which recovery does your phone have? If you can enter download mode, you can flash a different ROM (firmware) using a program for your PC. I imagine you flashed the wrong ROM, maybe one for a different device. Your phone does NOT sound bricked though.

The mytouch 4g slide is good choice if its within ur parents budget. One of the best keyboards ive used was on the touch pro2 especially with its titling screen. Its a window mobile cell. U can run andorid on it but that maybe too much of a hassle for u.
On a side note... I wonder why htc never made a android cell with the touch pro 2 design...

I think Sony Ericsson was going to release one. I think it was called the Xperia Pro. The specs werent really splashing, but it was decent.

1 GHz snapdragon, 3,7" 854x480 screen
Same as the Arc, and a 8.1 MP Exmor R CMOS camera.
They also have the Xperia Mini Pro, which is very small and cheap (€200<)

[Q] Are you tired from all this Android mess?

Hi to all of you good people I am a person like most of you and I am tired from all this s..t. I started using Android like 5 months ago and I had almost most of the phones Nexus One, Mytouch 4G, Samsung Captivate, Htc G2, Dell Streak, Galaxy Tab and so on... and now Samsung Vibrant. Thats in 5 months, dont you guys think this is s..t? We are trying to find the perfect phone that evrything works perfect from camera, FFCamera, Video codec support and all the things u already know plus software updates that all the time is a mess. I dont know I'm already tired from all this bull s..t man. What u guys think???
I think if you feel that way you should go by an iPhone or a Blackberry
You had all those phones in 5 months? A different phone every 2.5 weeks? Sounds kind of ridiculous to me.. lol
No........

Are you really trying to win over a bunch of people to not only give up on the Vibrant in a Vibrant forum, but Android as a whole in a Vibrant forum? If you haven't found a ROM that does everything then stop flashing betas and experimentals. There's multiple ROMs with everything working, and unless you don't have a job or a life, some bugs that exist aren't even a big deal. You make it sound like every ROM is either missing texting or phone calls. Think about how much our phone has the ability to do and then imagine making a ROM and having to make sure EVERYTHING works, from a setting menu FC to a data connection.
Android has climbed to the leader in smartphone preference in the U.S., you're alone on this one bud. If you've had that many devices, and couldn't manage to have one operate in a stable manner, then you are most definitely doing something wrong. And why all those phones, like, a captivate and a vibrant? did you even understand that those are pretty much the same thing? different carriers? that could be a problem right there. It's posts like these that make it so hard not to verbally assault you with my keyboard.
If you went through half a dozen phones in 5 months and still not satisfied, chances are it's not the phones that are the problem.

You bought and (I'm guessing) sold seven android devices in five months?? Sorry brother but I'm not buying that line of bull.
My guess is that you are an Apple fanboy that came over here to ruffle some feathers. You clearly have a lot of time on your hands.
BTW, all of the phones you list are very high-quality devices capable of performing at the highest level of what is available to smartphone consumers. I'd love to know how each phone failed to meet your exacting personal standard?
f Apple I love android but the same time im tired from it. and ye i have mony to burn thats why i get all the phones and i love phones.

Everything you list here is either A) subjective or B) a hardware/carrier issue. None of it is an indictment of Android as an operating system. One of the beauties of the Android OS is that it is available on many different phones (with varying hardware configurations) on many different carriers.
But I don't think you're really interested in all that.
ok try to defend it pure android? its beautiful that nexus one's screen is non responsive. and nexus s is a joke wit low def video and no sd support thats beautiful?

Then I don't know what to tell you man. Take your money and buy a phone that is to your liking on whatever platform you wish. What exactly is this thread about anyway?? What answer are you looking for??
Deleted, not even worth it.
i just wanted to know if anyone is getting tired from all this that google has to make a one perfect device with everything so it works with the android software that they made... am i wrong?? dont u guys thing Google supouse to do that? they have the money and the software they just have to make the hardware that goes with it.
Google makes money from android now they shuld invest in makeing a perfect device.

How's LG in general

How's lg in general? How's the customer service? And software support? And how's the hackbility? I'm recommending my friend to get optimus 2x when it came out but I at least to know these things.
It's my first LG and Android phone, but I was very surprised with it. So far I've heard only bad things about LG phones, but this one definitely changed my perspective. It's quick, responsive even on stock ROM (sooo much of a difference between WM and Android). Except the sometimes-annoying SD Card-reboot bug it is hell of a good device.. I hope they will upgrade it to Gingerbread
same here!
Honestly, I kinda feel the phone (P500) was rushed. Other than that, everything feels the way it's supposed to be (even better) for a budget phone.
LG in general:
I still can't say much about it, since this is my first Android / LG phone. When I get Gingerbread, maybe I can say some stuff.
Also, you have to note that even if a company has good software support, especially with the firmwares, it's always the flagship phones that get most of the attention. Sometimes the others just...get forgotten.
This is just my opinion from my experience with my older phone Promised an update, never got them.
I picked up an Optimus T in Seattle for $150.00 US used (like new condition) and moving from a MT3G Fender to this was like night and day. I paid the same for the MyTouch and the Optimus has a much better CPU/GPU, build quality, feels nice in the hand, better dimensions (thinner, yet same size screen and larger battery), nice screen for its size, etc.
I've taken the time to root, install custom ROM(JoeMom ROM) and overclock from 600MHz to 724MHz and everything seems fine.
If I had one gripe it would be the plastic that is used on the screen and the 'rubber-ish' non slip coating on the phone. It is much "softer" than the MT3G. My first day I put a "ding" in the non-slip coat near the top and a very fine scratch on the screen. I know there are screen protectors and cases but it was in the first 4 hours that this happened and I am not rough on my gadgets. If you plan on picking up one of these "value" devices I would suggest a case and screen protector at time of purchase.
LG's support site and forum are strait forward. It's easy to find the USB Windows drivers for those who need it. They seem to be ahead on the communication bit saying they're going for Gingerbread on the Optimus line. Most manufacturers are playing the silent treatment on which of their already released devices are going to be upgraded.
I once wrote an e-mail to the customer support. One week later I got a reply (cited from memory): "Dear Mr. [correct name], Due to technical problems, we were not able to read your e-mail. Please write again if you have some time to spare." Would you trust an IT company that either can't get its contact forms right or that doesn't want to reply to customer queries?
Very good until now. I do own several LG products and all of them are working very well. At least here, they also have a "help-line telephone service" for some products to help on "how to" do something (washing machine).
The Optimus One is my first LG brand and seems very good. It feels solid and not "cheap". Working very well.
It is an awesome phone.
Reasons:
1) I checked sony experia mini running on 2.1... Total waste of money..
2) rightly bundled specs..
and many more.....
Only missing thing (As per my need)
front facing camera for video calls.

Dude Honestly plz dont go for it instead u can go for any HTC android or nokia c7 coz the reasons are here
1) No flash 10.1 support though it states on phone pack that it has 10.1 flash support so LG is not honest in this the reason is the processor Arm V6 as flash adobe doesnt support ARMv6 processors but LG created a deception
2) I rooted my LG phone and phone went dead within 3weeks so i got a replacement though but after waiting 5 long days and fighting with LG area manager about this
3) everything else is good but not excellent

LG O1 was my first LG Android fone ... got fed up wid my iphone 2g's pathetic battery and nokia 5800xm's general useability .. The points I am mentioning is wrt to O1 (bought in India):
1. Build quality : Good (better than what I was hoping for)
2. Retail Box and accessories: Sufficient (except for the user manual which was pathetic)
3. Customer Service: Surprisingly prompt (but to be honest, I just had a question if my fone came with insurance as there was something mentioned in the retail package)
4. Overall: Better than what I have hoped for from LG as their mobiles fones have never been upto the mark
LG is generally ok for the most part. This is my first smartphone and the only problems I had with the O1 are those that i created on my own (trying to apps2sd on a slow memory card and panic-resetting which broke a few features). The LG service center was able to fix my phone after a week. Had to go back there multiple times though.
After installing the void ROM and custom recovery, I haven't had problems since. Battery gets me through most of my day with some gaming and music (I always bring my charger though...)
I'll have to test its bluetooth compatibility with a new headset since my old Nokia BH-104 doesnt work with it (even though they say it can...)
I guess the only we don't know yet is how competent they are with updates and bugs. But build quality is great! And the tweaks to android are minimal. Closest to stock experience I would say

just dont post negative as u end up bricking your phone due to some reason
As for me i would rate it 3.5/5 obviously we cant compare it with higher end phones but a phone in that budget is just excellent. NOKIA sucks with symbian.
phone make 4/5
resloution 3.5/5 (at this moment lot to come in future)
tweaking 4.5/5 (huge cappabilities)
official gingerbread support (on its way) whereas mik's rom rock still
good customer support,prompt service
great gaming capabilities (except few game dont run-playing angry birds, nfs shift, pes 2011 ,dark ninza, home run battle 3d-3d gaming supoort is good)
very much customizeble.
ALL IN ALL EXCELLENT IN THE BUDGET CRITERIA
P500 is a great phone for the price. I had owned a HTC TyTn II and been using Wm6.5 and Android 2.3 on it.
LG customer care replied the day after i emailed them, and called me the next day. SO i geuss customer support is decent.
I hv used (not owned) HTC Wildfire, Samsung Galaxy Fit and Pop and Ace and Galaxy 3 before, they were all not worth the price. whats the use of a higher resolution camera when the device screen itself is such a low resolution? QVGA on a 3.2" screen is not pretty. (except Samsung Galaxy Ace which is same resolution as 01 if im not mistaken) Galaxy 3 with 667 mhz cpu was not able to run angry birds properly. its very smooth on 01 void #echo rom.
Only things im missing in 01 is a LED flash, dedicated camera button and trackball, better camera would have been a plus.
But i dont regret buying it, and i can laugh at my friends 20k+ Nokia phones.
Life's Good
It's a good phone if you don't have the SD unmount bug or you can fix it. I wouldn't recommend it unless there is a recent firmware in your country that fixes the issue (there isn't in mine), or you are willing to take all the steps to install a custom rom that fixes the issue. This was the only way I could fix the issue in my phone, because LG customer service said the phone was OK and didn't solve anything.
As many comments above, Optimus One was my first smart phone.
I have some hands-on experience with these droid, such as Desire HD, Galaxy Ace, X10, X8, Wildfire, X10 Mini. Well, with my experience on them and comparing them to my phone, i this the O1 is the best of the range. Some claims that Galaxy Ace is better for now but i still think O1 is better, as it is more capable to customize it.
O1 is great for everything except for the part that it doesnt have a camera flash. I really really wish i have one on mine phone, but who cares about that? I seldom use a camera flash as a flash light, but more as a torch light. XD
Talking bout LG, they have a great customer service. I had emailed to them before, and their reply were really quick! While Sony doesn't reply me at all...
i agrree O1 is more customizable than Galaxy Ace, community support is also better. I chose to buy the 01 and didnt have any regrets till now, and gingerbread is coming soon.
and i never had the SD unmount problem from the start even while i was using stock rom
anyways, this is my first LG phone, but its great

Exactly what i was thinking. And regarding the SD unmount problem,it doesnt happen on mine too, maybe i was using a correct card =/
i think optimus one is one of the best midrange devices available.its well worth the price.the 1500MAh battery that it carries is one of the biggest in android phones.
specs wise it can be compared to galaxy ace but O1 is a lot cheaper.and its 512 mb ram is a huge +point. Lg has promised a gingerbread update on it. on the other hand ,there's no word from samsung abt updating the ace to gingerbread. they havent even provided the froyo update for most of its eclair phones except the galaxy s and the galaxy 3.so u cant trust samsung abt updating the devices .
Ordered Lg Optimus One (P500) yesterday on letsbuy.com for 8712 Rupees (LOWEST COST of this phone in India i believe).!!
Waiting for it to arrive ..

How good is the Atrix? Pros and Cons to Atrix.

so my contract will be up in May 4th.
after my horrid experience with the Backflip, im kind of on the iffy side about the atrix since its running motoblur.
the atrix seems like a good candidate. espcialy because of the lapdock. as im going to college and wanted a android tablet. but the atrix seems way better ATM and i can get it for around 450 at radio shack.
but first of all. i would want some general feed back from owners as you all.
pros and cons basically.
Atrix is a great phone to upgrade too. I myself came from a Backflip (CM6 installed). BLUR shouldn't be an issue since the phone is so powerful...but use LP or ADW etc as your launcher

backflip, was a good attempt at a design of a phone unique, but with that they equipped it just sucked. i moved on to a HTC HD2 which is what i have right now. but i want my 3G back and 4G as my area will be available for 4G.
thanks for the tip on the launchers.
This phone is very well built especially in an otterbox case. It just feels like a sturdy phone. The camera is really good. I just upgraded from an Xperia X10 with loads of tweaks. I thought that was running really fast, and this manages to run even faster at stock. You can literally click almost anything and it will open immediately. Cons: I really like motoblur actually, but I wish there were more settings for syncing.
i keep on viewing more videos on youtube regarding the phone. called att today in the morning. i want it. but they are slapping a 45 tethering fee to my plan, becuase of the lapdock. i dont want to go over 200 bucks a month as its what we are paying right now right around 170ish 80ish.
but i want it.
but hen again, it makes me think about the whole motoblur thing. on the backflip, it was laggy and useless. i ended up putting a deblured rom on it.
by any chance does anybody know if you need to have a tethering plan?
You can get past the need for the tethering plan, I don't know personally because in Canada there are no tethering charges (except for the iPhone) but there are threads on bypassing it in the Dev forum. As for your original question, take a good look at the screen in a store or somewhere before you buy it. For a screen that is 960x540 the PenTile effect completely ruins it for me, and the color saturation is terrible. If it doesn't bother you than that its a great phone.
ill look that up. as for the screen. PenTile? imma hit google up. lol. but ill take a good look and compare to my HD2. screen doesnt really bug me. unless its low quality. then yes we have an issue. but other than that. were fine. thanks for the tip.

I completely disagree. The screen looks very good, albet a little pixilated when displaying solid colors. My friend's droid x's screen looks washed out and low quality in comparison.
Pros
Most powerful phone. It is more powerful than most android phones coming out even the SGS2 can't touch it. Look at some benchmarking threads the Atrix gets in the 2900 with android 2.2 the SGS2 has 3000 but it is android 2.3 and does not push out as many pixels.
Great Battery life
1080p will be coming soon
4G coming soon
Very good build and very slim as well
Cons
Locked bootloader (Not a problem unless you like custom roms)
A bit laggy with a couple bugs (Could be fixed soon)

like i said screen isnt really a big issue. as long it looks okay and a bit on the HD side im good.
ive been reading review alot lately (dont wanna **** up liek i did with the backflip) i hear battery is a drag. that it dies quickly because of the dual core processor. the 4G has to come eventually as its has 4G slapped on to its name
AT&T is not really a big issue. ha i got service where i live. not one single dropped call.
now here are two noobish questions.
1) what exactly is a locked bootloader? and is it good or bad?
2) can someone explain the whole dual core thing? i have heard and read two different things. i read that it is a 1 GHz processor thats it. i have heard from video reviews that its a processor with 2 1Ghz chips, that making it 2 Ghz. jsut wondering.
How are you getting it for 450 from radio shack? If you don't mind me asking.
I returned mine for the zoom and will prolly grab it again for that price.

yeah. 600 for the phone is whack! i got a HD2 currently got it off cragislist for 150 guy needed the money.
best buy has the phone for 99.99 and the dock for 399.99. a total of about 500+
radio shack seems the best option. around 480 not bad 20 bucks is 20 bucks i can buy a case or something.
You guys are lucky you don't live in Australia, to buy any decent phone will set you back 800ish, Atrix 4G online in an Australian store (MobiCity.com.au) will set you back $1000 its stupid.
As for the question, I like my Atrix, its heaps better than my HTC 7 Trophy and faster than my iPhone 4 in some cases. The locked bootloader basically stops you flashing custom ROMs onto the phone entirely, only fake ROMs that are essentially very well built themes. Considering this is my first android though, I have yet to care about custom ROMs. The screen is good unless you're viewing solid colors which is when it goes pixelated and motoblur did annoy me as soon as I saw it, which is the reason I shoved GingerBlur on it as soon as I could.

1) In simplified terms, a Bootloader is low-level piece of software that loads the main OS (Android in this case). It's roughly equivalent of the PC BIOS.
Being locked means that its going to be very difficult to replace it.
You'd want to replace it in order to replace the Android OS with a newer version. The Manufactures and carriers are terribly slow to release new versions. The version of android on the atrix is version out of date (2.2) and almost a year old. It also means you can easily remove the extra 'value' crap motorola and the carriers like to add (like motoblur).
2) The chip runs at 1Ghz, but it's two cores on the chip which means it can 'theoretically' do twice as much per hertz. In practise, Android isn't that dual-core aware. It's likely Ice-Cream will bring more optimizations for dual-cores. Which we think is due late this year.
But Motorola would rather sell you a new phone than update it, hence why a locked bootloader is a pain. Consumers provide far better support than the manufactures or carriers
I see. I wonder if they will skip 2.3 and just go ahead to ice cream since ice cream is for dual core phones.

Please be honest - How do you like your MB860

There is a thread like this one on the forum of the Samsung Galaxy s 2 but almost all the guys talk about the SGS2 and i want it to share it here, to all the Atrix ppl.
The original thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1083964
now... to the topic, i own the motorola atrix and i think its a great device, fast and fun, i can do whatever i want, but i dont like some stuff, like the wake up lag (i think it can be fixed only unmounting the SD card), the fact that it reboot randomly and the locked bootloader, now, i knoe that there r some guys trying to unlock it and i think someone posted a way to flash full roms but didnt understud how to do it.
Now i can get the SGS2 really cheap, but i havent seen it on the street to test it or anything, dont know the problems that it have and dont know which phone will be better running the same rom (lets say CM7).
so i have that problem, what do you think?
I think you are not asking how we like the MB860/Atrix as your title suggests, but rather asking us if you should buy the SGS2!
That's honestly what I think after reading your post!
If you are looking for justification of owning both devices, I say do it! My friends ask me why I need more than one phone and I laugh at them. My reply is always, "Why not?". Then I proceed to show the differences between devices, pros and cons of each. Its just fun, and a hobby. Is that what you were fishing for?
Side note: NO more random reboots for me! Ever since I uninstalled the horrible horrible LP+, I haven't seen a reboot (or graphical shell crash, whichever it is) in 10+ days. Ditch the LauncherPro! It sucks on the Atrix! Maybe I should find more threads and inform them of my experience.?.
Edit: Ive also never experienced wake up lag. Ever.
I think it's quite good
The only gripe is the locked bootloader, so there hasn't been an explosion of kernels and roms for it, which is a shame
I do like to customise my stuff to suit my needs
I've also played with a i9100, and it is very nice, and I would be torn between the two
The fingerprint reader I use all the time and probably couldn't do without it once I've had it.
Its a very powerful device, and the Full Ubuntu customization makes it so it can replace netbooks for a lot of people. Since I like almost everything in it, lets say what I dont:
Its looks.
It appears ordinary. TOO Ordinary. I'm on the subway, holding a phone more powerful than all others in the train combined, but if anyone looks at it, it just screams "mid-end".
Its back cover.
It's extremelly slippery. Of all the phones I've owned in 8 years, this one I let slip and fall to the floor more times in two months than any other during the one year I've owned each. That's about 20 falls now and counting.
And, of course, the locked bootloarder.
Motoblur isn't as bad to me as most others, as I like the contacts integration and the phone location without the need to download third party apps. But unlocking the webtop was a MAJOR headache for someone who knew NOTHING of Linux.
Now, on comparison, the SG2 has a bigger screen, a better contrast, a more powerful core, and a different look that may appeal to many people. However, it doesnt have the Lapdock, which can matter a lot or absolutely nothing, depending on what you think of it. And it has a different UI which you may like better or not. Also, It's pixel density is much lower.
There is a comparison thread here.
I have a love hate relationship with it. Its my first android. I gave my i4 to my wife. I love the size/form factor. Battery, call quality, web surfing are good. I think the gps, combined with cardock and vlingo in car is superb.
Id give the screen an A-
Text and sites look pretty good, but pixelation is evident on homescreen wallpapers and widgets. The 5mp camera blows. The video recording is great IF you have good lighting.
I have been able to achieve 7.19 mb down in certain parts of houston. Other places are random 3g.
Pretty pissed moto hasn't released GB.
Accessories are fatally overpriced.
I've played with a lapdock. Great build quality, crappy performance. Webtop mod on tv is cool, but gimicky.
Biggest gripe though is my battery cover creaks a lot. I had to put tapw on the inside to make it feel solid and sound quiet.
However through updates/future mods/and using a case all of my complaints are easily erased. The atrix was released way too early. Maybe att pushed moto. If the phone had landed in late July with everything working and updated, I think it would have had the launch it deserves.
Not sure it will survive the HTC holiday and Lead. And the Droid Bionic and some new sprint phone appear to be atrix rev 2 with everything good to go at launch.

I love my Atrix. Yes, it's buggy at times, but it doesn't give me a fraction of the frustration that my old iPhone gave me.
Once I get to college, I'll be right in Atlanta's HSPA+ coverage area, so I'll expect some awesome data speeds there. We should have Gingerbread by then as well.
i like the atrix, its a challenge at the moment with us having 2nd init and trying to make custom roms keeps me entertain for hours
I owned both the Atrix and SGS2. I kept the Atrix. SGS2 was a dissappointment. Actually im not sure why people make such a fuss about it. Ateix has better sound, better sprakerphone, better resolutipn etc. Worst part is the battery lfe on SGS2 . Absolutely awful. Often lasted less than 6 hours. Sure its powerful but what's the point id you can't use that power or have tobfreeze most of the Apps in order to get through the day. I just didn't feel I could rely on it.
Atrix isn't perfect (yet). But its overall combination is great.

I love my Atrix. The only flaws with it are the bootloader (which has been mostly worked around thanks to 2nd init, now we just wait for someone to develop a CM7 rom for it) and the fact that the screen cant show gradients well. The battery life is outstanding, text is crisp, nothing slows it down (...except live wallpapers, but I suspect Motoblur at work there, so moot point after roms) and the call quality is great.
As for the rebooting, its either something you installed or you got a faulty device and need to exchange it.
I cant say anything about the Galaxy S, but there's nothing I've seen that would justify changing phones from the Atrix.
To me is love and hate on the Atrix 4G. I got so used to running multi-OS on a custom rom HTC HD2. Kinda missing the HTC Sense on both Android and WinMo.
Here is what I do love about the Atrix:
* Better Screen Res.
* Dual Core CPU
* Fingerprint Reader
* HDMI output
* Webtop function
What I hated on the Atrix + Motorola
* No International Warrenty
* Lockdown of Bootloader
* Poor or no language display support within Webtop
* Overly expensive hardwares
Overall, The Atrix is a pretty slick device only If you don't use lot of interactive widget on the screen. I might just keep it for a little more time untill I can find a NextG version of HTC Sensation aka Pyramid.
I hate my atrix. One min its fast and responsive, the next its like running windows 95 on a 486 with 24mb of ram. My data connection randomly times out and the screen is crap.
I want to like this phone, especially after seeing 2.3 on the X and how responsive it is but I have a feeling im going to get let down. Im tired of waiting endlessly for the next version of android that's supposed to magically make everything better, or hope the community will pick up the slack.
I just hope I can convince my wife to give up her pink pantech dumbphone for the atrix so I can get an iphone 5 when its released.

I miss winmo sense on the hd2 as well! I thought it was the best version of sense. I didn't have to do anything to it except mYbe one mid to add extra icons tobthe home screen. I ovetflashed my hd2 and eventually the battery points broke don removing ; replacing batteries so often when flashing! So I can't even get it to work anymite just to play with it to see how it used to look.
Anyone out there figured out how to Make WINMO sense for android?
(Just looked back at my spelling. Man the Atrix keyboard is awful!)

IT is a great phone best I've had so far,but find out for yourself. The hardware is top notch and the software is catching up.I think its a pretty good device that slowly goign to improve.
wow, really? That's my launcher of choice and my atrix has NOT ONCE did a random reboot. It feels faster with launcher pro plus than with any other launcher.
I mostly like the atrix. Only have a few issues with mine. The hard lock button wears out really quick. Mine has pretty much lost all of its spring. I dont know if its the phone or the market, but google market wont connect intermittently. For "4g" it really feels like 3g. The form factor is boring. Lastly the locked bootloader.
I was actually looking at the xperia arc. That thing looks slick. Not dual core but honestly til the OS is optimized for dual cores, its not that important. My nexus one is as fast if not faster then my atrix. i really like how SE altered the UI.
i doo love my atrix, its a great phone and i think ill keep it until gingerbread and see how it works, but as soon as Entel (my carrier) get stock on the SGS2 ill buy it cos it will cost me like $60 and i can sell it for like $800 if it is unlocked for all companies
maybe there i will test it to see how it works
the only problem i have with the atrix is the locked bootloader, and the wake up lag, nothing more, games, apps, and all the stuff run smooth as butter
I love mine. I bought it March 3rd and I have yet to put it down. I love tinkering and changing things. Yes, the bootloader is locked, but devs are working on ways around that as I type. I am running Gingerblur 4.5 and never have/had any of the issues you describe. My buddy has the SGII that he paid like 800 for. Got it from the UK. I played with it...and I wasn't too impressed. It was right out of the box and he has since changed a lot. Atrix feels just right to me. As soon as we can bypass BL and GB is officially OTA'd it will get even better.
ok... now i have the SGS2, but dont know what to do >.<, sell the atrix or the SGS2 (i need money).
both are great phones, and i really dont know what to do... >.<

Where are the QWERTY phones!?

I've been with android since the G1 before there was even a touch screen keyboard available. I love having a phyical keyboard. I went from the G1 to the MyTouch 3G slide which was ok but its not a full keyboard and you have to shift for numbers. The G2 seems to have been that last high end QWERTY that was worth buying. I dony consder anything from the mytouch line high end. The Droid 4 seems great but not being able to upgrade the battery is a huge downfall since i always buy extended batteries. I have a G2x which is a great phone spec wise but i am truly sick of touch screen typing. Does anyone else feel that companys are trying to hard to make phones that look like iphones? I see a ton of great devices coming but none with physical keyboards, is it a dying breed? Am i the only person who wants one still?

I guess i am lol
I think that demand isn't high enough for them to spend money trying to make a slim QWERTY and touch capable mobile. For now anyway
I have been waiting for the same you lose to much screen for the touch keyboard and its not as accurate I think I thought the galaxy captivate was going to be it but its sucks all around even the keyboard they didn't even leave enough room to use the top row so I hate the phone completely and it seem that Samsung isn't really untreated in making any others

Yeah i dont get it, the 1st android had a full keyboard and it was great, the same with the G2 but since then you dont see anything worth buying. I dont even care about a slim factor, i always put extended batteries on my phone since phone technolgy gets better bet batteries stay the same so its either stay tethered to a charger or buy a big battery. I dont care how big the keyboard makes the phone ill still make it bigger with the battery and be happy that i dont have to type with the touch screen and not to mention it makes playing emulators alot easier
There's the MyTouch 4G slide on T-Mobile, Droid 4 on Verizon, and the Samsung Captivate Glide on at&t all of which are pretty well specced if you ask me
There is Xperia Pro too.
And rumours from Sony insiders says that we may see another Xperia phone with QWERTY keyboard this year...

Your out of luck bro... they're phasing out keyboard phones...
There's gonna be 1 per carrier besides that there's dead

try sony ericsson phones.. they are the bet in qwerty
The problem is that i have tmobile. The droid 4 almost made me switch till i found out you cant replace the battery. Tmobile was the first to embrace android with the G1 and now they seem to be getting the shaft, the G2 was the last phone that i really liked. The mytouch line is a joke i hate anything that doesnt come with stock android and you have to jump through hoops to have true root.
I'm using the Droid 3 which still has a removable battery, global SIM, a 4" screen and a great keyboard. Great hardware, but unfortunately Motorola isn't very dev friendly. But good qwerty phones seem to be a dying breed. If the Droid # series continue to have non removable batteries I am doing to have to find another phone series.
from which i see that there is no physical QWERTY phone in the future in the past even they had it also is not the the high end phone
I think people are more interested in a thin profile rather than a physical keyboard.
It's sad. I love QWERTY keyboards. If the keys are made right then nothing else compares when typing on a mobile device.
I've heard rumors on some phone forums that HTC will be having a new phone with a super slim slide out qwerty. Don't know how true thats going to be since all high end smartphones have touch screen keyboards. I'm with you on having a physical keyboard since I've had Blackberry's for years then got an Evo 4G.

It is sad, its like we have to settle for touch screen since the only qwerty phones that come out never have the specs of the high end touch only phones. Key example i was going to buy a G2 but the G2x has better specs so i had to settle with not having a keyboard unless i wanted to have a less powerful phone.
