Wifi Error and Random Restarting? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have 2 different problems that have just recently started for my atrix. I'm running 2.3.4 gingerbread with the Alien 4 ROM and theme.
I normally keep my wifi turned off to save battery and about 4 days ago I tried to turn it on and it under the state of the wifi it said 'Error'. I tried rebooting, pulling the battery several times, re-installing the ROM, flashing the gingerbread sbf, and even doing a factory data reset, but none of them worked. I tried looking it up and everywhere said either to try flashing sbf/factory resetting your phone (which I did) or returning it to AT&T, but I bought it refurbished and my warranty already ended. Also I have my bootloader unlocked so I think that my warranty is voided.
Any suggestions for what to do?
Also, my phone will restart and after 3 or 4 minutes of of booting up. This problem started up earlier today and the flashing, resetting, and battery pulling did nothing to fix this. The suggestions on the internet said about the same thing as the wifi issue: flash sbf, reset, or call AT&T. I'm not sure if it's software related or not, the battery just might be fitting loosely, but if it is the software, then I haven't found the solution.
If anyone else is experiencing similar issues, I would appreciate feedback. If there's no solution and I'm just screwed, then I guess I'll try to get a new phone.
Thanks in advance.

My phone did the same I couldn't fix it but I went into an att store and they exchanged it no problem
sent from cm7 atrix 1.3ghz

thanks for the feedback!
Did you have both issues?
Was your warranty still valid?

[Q] Galaxy SII CF-Rooted KH1 - "baseband unknown" intermittent problem

Hello,
I have a random/erratic problem with my SGSII reporting that the baseband is unknown and no IMEI being present.
It happens randomly through the night, or if the phone reboots itself, the signal icon changes to a circle with a line through it, and no network connectivity works (except for WiFi).
I've backed my \EFS up previously and restored that with no luck, re flashed my modem with no luck.
Usually the fix is to reboot the phone a few more times and eventually it comes back on.
I've got an app called 'network' which gives me various stats on the connectivity type etc (from my nexus one days) under 'Set preferred network type: I have an extra entry called 'Unknown' which gets selected by the phone, and changing this to one of the GSM variants doesn't have any effect.
Like I said, it's random and not much of a show stopper right now since I'm thinking it's a software problem. I don't want to RMA my handset just yet.
I have seen some other threads where people seem to have this permanently and there are no resolutions provided in the threads.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Kind Regards,
Chris.
I m relieved to know someone else also has this problem. Last Sunday my handset just hanged on lockscreen, so I pulled out battery, reinserted it and sim stopped detecting, so I tried couple of restarts, factory resets still nothing. So flashed firmware a couple of times still nothing. So when I checked if firmware was flashed correctly, the baseband was showing unknown and IMEI was completely blank. Handset is still in warranty so I don't want to take any chances, I am sending it in on Monday. Will keep you posted on what happens. Let me know if ur problem is solved.
Phone started regularly reporting that the SIM wasn't inserted so a quick phone call to O2 and a courier is coming to pick the handset up tomorrow.
Still under warranty so they should be able to fix/replace it.
Pain in the backside though to back up everything and then reinstalling it again when it comes back (either repaired, or a new/replacement one)
Right,
I got it back.
Apparently they identified it as a faulty SIM card slot. I was sceptical of this at first, but I persevered with it.
Surely enough, 1 day into using it, the same happened.
Back to the repair centre with photographic evidence of the problem.
Same happened to me a few night ago, removing the sim and re-inserting it fixed the problem for me.
I haven't seen it again yet.
I was on the stock firmware and insecure kernel.
me too... never been update or using any clockmod firmware..it just suddenly happen... any other way to fix this...
I'm also having the same problem for days now. My phone is full stock, never rooted it, never installed and unsecure kernel.
It randomly loses IMEI, Baseband and GSM signal. Sometimes it comes back after rebooting phone, but sometimes it seems to be permanent.

[Q] "Not registered on network" - Tried everything

Hello all,
To put my issue simply, I am receiving the "Not registered on network" error on my phone. I have tried many things to resolve it and to help narrow down the possible problems, I will explain my situation and what steps I have taken to try to resolve it. I appreciate you taking the time to read my detailed explanation in advance, as I wish to be as clear and informative as possible.
My phone is an unlocked Australian Galaxy S3 (GT-I9300). I bought it about 6 months ago and about two months ago had some issues with the display come out of the blue. I was able to get this issue resolved through my warranty. When I received the phone back though, I thought it was all working fine but then I noticed I couldn't send SMSs or make calls as my phone wouldn't connect to my phone network (Vodafone). I tried reboots, hard reboots, restoring backups, using a different SIM card (from a different carrier) and I still couldn't get it to work.
During this process of trying to fix it myself, I rooted the phone. So when I realised I couldn't fix it and it could possibly be a hardware issue, I sent it back to be fixed under warranty. Unfortunately my warranty was voided when I rooted the phone, even though it was broken before I rooted it.
So a few days ago I received my phone back again and spent about 6 hours trying to fix it. Here's what I tried...
I tried to flash the latest Australian firmware (XSA) which is the same as the one I initially had when I purchased the phone. I tried factory resets, different firmware flashes, custom ROMs, different modems etc. None of this worked. I thought I had found my solution when I stumbled across ARIZA's patch, but event this did not solve my problem.
The really strange thing is I can occasionally connect to the network and if I try repeatedly, I can sometimes get an SMS to send. I've checked my SIM is clean (I've tried another SIM anyway) and everything seems fine.
My IMEI number is still intact and isn't blacklisted. I've tried restoring backups from when it was working (before I got it "fixed" the first time) and that's not worked. The current status of my phone is:
ROM: Omega v5.0
Version: 4.2.2
Baseband: I9300XELLA
Network: vodafone AU (sometimes shows as Unknown)
Mobile Network State showing as "Disconnected", except in rare moments
IMEI and Serial intact
I've tried all I can think of and all the suggestions I can find on the Internet. I'm hoping someone here will have some suggestions for things I can try. I'd really like to fix this issue as I've been without my phone for months. I'm thinking it could be a hardware issue, but want to make sure I've exhausted all options I can try myself first before trying to get a place to repair it. As my warranty is void, I'm not sure how easy this will be.
Thanks in advance for your time and suggestions,
Jay.

Return to a stock rom and use triangle away to reset the counter, retry with your provider, they may let it slide that you've previously tried.
It would appear that you've already tried everything.
Return to stock and update via OTA, remove root, remember to use triangle away, I personally haven't had to do it but i would imagine that it needs root privileges to complete so thinking about it i would say to use triangle away first.
Hope you get it sorted.

Hey,
Thanks for the quick response.
I doubt they would let it slide as I had a pretty long back and forth with them trying to get them to fix the phone or at least send it back to me without charging me for the shipping costs and that didn't end in my favour. I'm sure they'd remember that they already rejected it due to it being modified and would just blame the rooting for the issues.
I'm thinking I might just reset it all to stock, reset the counter and at least ask. If not, I'll try to find a repair shop who will take a look. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm still open to any other ideas people might have which I can try from my end.
Thanks,
Jay.
Starting point would be correct firmware modem and CSC for your location and network .
Flash your original rom .

Hey,
Thanks for the suggestion. I believe I have tried this by downloading the latest firmware from SamMobile and flashing that through Odin, but I haven't tried it through Keis, so I guess I'll give that a go.
I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanks,
Jay.
Me too. I've an i9305 (S3 LTE) and i've tried every tutorials on internet and so far nothing: always the same issue "not registered on network". In case you solve the issue please let me know. I'll do the same. Txs
I've tried to connect my phone using Keis and it just seems to say "Connecting..." forever. I've tried running the connection troubleshooter and that just seemed to re-install the drivers but not actually fix the issue. I still can't get Keis to even connect to my phone.
Any ideas on why this would be? Or other suggestions I can try for my initial problem?
Thanks,
Jay.
As an update to this, it seems I've tried everything I can on my end to fix it to no avail. I believe it must be a hardware issue and have dropped it into a phone repair centre. I'm hoping they will be able to find the problem and fix it.
I'll let you know how it goes.
Another update to this, I received a response from the repair centre. They said:
"...we took it all apart and checked all connections and serviced it.
Once we put it back together we tested it with Vodafone and Optus sim cards. Both sims had service and were able to connect to the internet as well."
After I asked for more details on what they did to try and help me determine what the problem was, they said:
"The phone looked 100% fine inside, no signs of water or any other damage. Sometimes electronic devices can be a bit temperamental, maybe the fact that we undone and cleaned all connections it's booted it back to life."
So I'm going to pick it up tomorrow, but it sounds like it's all sorted now. So not it's not 100% clear what the issue was, but to anyone having this same problem who has tried everything like I did, it is likely a hardware issue. Your best bet is probably to try a repair shop (assuming your warranty won't cover the problem).
Thanks to those who offered suggestions and good luck to those with the same problem.
Do please tell us if it worked because i'm tempted to do the same as you did before selling it on ebay as faulty for parts. PLEASE ANSWER US BACK AFTER TESTING IT an entire day. THANK YOU A LOT!
Does it work properly now? Thanks - Please reply.
Not sure if it is exactly the same problem but I remember getting that msg when i was on Telstra and I'd installed a new ROM - I went to the Telstra site and got them to send an activation msg that reset my provider info. It didn't seem to matter for phone calls but I wasn't getting any connection to do with data until I 'ran' the msg they sent.
Hi I had this issue with my gs2..what I did was flash the right modem and restore efs thats how I solved my problem..hope this helps..

Txs for help but I don't have the backups of my efs folder... so I think it is useless therefore i am going to sell it on ebay as faulty for parts. Unfortunately! I love my i9305!
You should probably do some more searching on site - there are a number of things to do, including getting a service centre to fix it. Be cheaper than a new phone. Is it an i9300 or ann i9305?

It's a i9305 and I've tried everything, every tutorials on internet without success so far. I am tired of the situation and also very disappointed therefore I think i will sell it as faulty. As it regards to a repair center, near my area it's very difficult to find someone who can fix it.
For me it seems my connection is still intermittent when using my Vodafone SIM on my S3 (and the same for another Vodafone SIM I tried on this phone) whereas both SIMs work fine on other phones.
I then tried a Telstra SIM on my S3 and it worked fine. So it seems I have a weird problem with my phone where the combination of the S3 and Vodafone doesn't work, but other phones or other SIMs do work.
I think I'm just going to try changing carrier (I've been meaning to anyway) since it seems their SIMs work in my phone.
Really not sure what is causing this issue, but I'm at the point where I just want it fixed and I don't really care how. Hope you find out how to solve your issue.
How is your phone right now? Im also having the same problem. It always say 'not registered to network' everytime i make a call. This happens whenever i turn on the flight mode, then turning it off.. i have a strong signal and i can use the internet provided by my network but i cant make a call or text.. people cant also reach my number. I sent this already to samsung service ctr and they changed the board but its still there whenever i access the flight mode..

LG G5 WiFi Greyed After Update

Hey guys!
As the titles says, I updated my G5 H831 (Canada, Fido) yesterday and the wifi stopped working. The slider is greyed out and will not turn on. When I tap the slider to enable wifi it slides over, but after exiting the settings app and reopening, it reverts to the greyed out off position. I've already tried and factory reset, battery pulls etc. Does anyone have any info on this or have had similar experiences?
Have you tried turning it on with O.K Google? If its set up try saying: "O.k Google, turn on Wifi" ?
I've tried turning it on in settings, notification menu and with "Okay, Google" to no avail. I'm hoping this will be fixed in the next update if it isn't a hardware issue.
I have had that kind of issue last year with my previous phone.
Have you restored your data with titanium backup?
Edit : your model can't be root so I think you didn't restore...

Sounds silly to wait for an update for a pretty necessary feature on a smartphone (unless you're lucky and have unlimited data?). Just replace the device under warranty- LG warranty lasts for 1 year. It definitely sounds like some sort of defect. Have you tried factory resetting? Always factory reset if you find an unexpected problem, or at the very least, the system cache partition.
Not sure what build your variant updated to, but I'm at the May 12A update on Verizon with no such issues

I tried a full factory reset (wipe all partitions). My phone is the Canadian Fido vatiant (unlocked,) and I have unlimited data with WIND here. Not sure how to go about getting a replacement device through warranty as Fido considers getting a phone unlocked voiding their warranty.

Didn't know you unlocked it. If it came unlocked, though, LG would be the ones to warranty it. Idk what Fido is, but it's an LG issue.
Fido is just a carrier here in Canada. How do I go about getting the LG factory warranty?
Update:
So I tried turning WiFi on again out of habit. Lo and behold it turned on! Not entirely sure what caused it to stop working (or start working again, for that matter) but it's working now. I'd still like to figure out why it quit but I'm not too sure how to go about doing that.
I see its working for you again, but just in case you run into issues in the future, Fido should be able to direct you to the LG Warranty process for you. I've had a few warranty issues in the past 5+ years with my Verizon carrier and I just call them and they set up shipment for me .
Anytime I've done it, they overnight me a refurbished phone, but idk if that's a Verizon thing.. they definitely send it to LG for warranty, but idk if most people have to wait for repairs and my carrier is just cool and will give you the refurbished one.

What solved this for me was removing the sim card and turning on the phone without it. As soon as there was no sim card in the phone the MAC address returned to normal and wifi worked again. I put the sim card back in and it continued to work perfectly.

I tried what you said and it didnt work for me. This never happen till i updated my rs988 recently.
I too have the same problem on my LGG5. I tried everything to get the WiFi button to work. I took it into Rogers and they sent it to get repaired and when I got it back it worked for 10mins. It went back to being grayed out as soon as I started to reinstall my stuff on the phone. So they sent it to get repaired again. I think that since I've been without a proper phone now for 1 month that if I get it back and it doesn't work that I will have to try and get LG to replace it. After all the phone is only 3 months old. Has anyone else managed to get them to replace the phone without difficulty?

Wifi is not turning on

Hello my friends.
I got the lg g3 ls990, every time that i try to turning on Bluetooth and wifi it just stuck in turning on but never does. And when i look under hardware info it says mac unavailable both of them. I already tried installing a custom rom and flash stock rom with lg flash tool but nothing worked.
It weird that this happened becasue it was working fine.
Can u give me some ideas how can i fix this problem? or it could be a hardware issue, but both of them at the same time?
Thanks !
ive had a similar issue with an LG G3 wifi wont stay on goes on/off gets greyed out shows on but it not etc etc......bluetooth the entire time works fine. i have tried EVERYTHING from reboots to reloads.... various firmware versions various modems and multiple kernels...even full LG Flash tool restore to bone stock etc etc....finally called Squaretrade and got a replacement phone.
I've also encountered this issue just yesterday. I got so frustrated that I ended up factory-resetting to stock just to see if it would go away. However, even on an unrooted stock version, the problem persists. I was running on the BareeZVC rom for about 2 weeks too, and out of random, the wifi is no longer connecting. You have to leave it for like 2-3 mins for it to show up again and then it disappears back to it's off state. Does anyone have any clue as to what the heck is going on? Also, my G3 has been passed down to my brother as I already have an S7. Please help!
I am sorry as I can no longer be of help, but I have recycled the Sprint G3 and purchased the Canadian variant of it. Best of luck guys!
This is suddenly happening to me, too. The Sprint store employee said a factory reset is about a 50/50 chance of it working so I rejected that as a solution. I'm eligible for an upgrade anyway, so I think I'm moving phones, if not carriers, too.
Seriously considering the Nexus 6P.

SIM not readable after factory reset

My wife's VS985 G3 was getting bogged down and freezing, etc. Decided it was time for a factory reset to try to get a little more mileage out of it. The phone is running the latest stock Marshmallow, non-rooted. Performed the reset and rebooted and got a message that the SIM was not readable. Never had this problem prior to the reset. Shut down, removed SIM, replaced SIM. Same issue. Got a hold of Verizon and they had me reset the network settings and reboot. Started seeing 4G but then lost it again. Verizon said we needed a new SIM. My wife took the phone to a Verizon store and they replaced the SIM but it only worked for a few minutes and then went away again. Later the SIM was working for almost a whole day, but again stopped working.
I saw the thread about some people having this problem and the slip of paper trick, the battery possibly being the culprit, and trying to tighten the screws on the phone body. Haven't tried any of this yet, but I also noticed the for the people that did have this problem it just started happening randomly. I didn't see any mention of the problem occurring immediately following a reset. This makes me think it's a software issue.
We ended up getting a new phone to replace this one so I'm thinking of downgrading this phone, rooting it and trying a custom ROM.....thinking this may over-write whatever software/firmware problem could be causing the issue. Sound like a plan or am I way off base?
