T-Mo Rom Update - HTC Amaze 4G

Just had the ROM update pushed to my device. Looks like the HTC security bug fix.

Security and performance update. Seems maybe a fit more responsive...could just be my imagination.

What the version number in the about phone software section?

I said it once and ill say it again, DO NOT TAKE UPDATES if you want S-off when it's available. Those same "security fixes" are probably closing any exploits for our developers to crack.

1.36.531.6
HBOOT is 1.90.0004, still from Sept 15, 2011.

WRONG!
After a factory reset you'll still have the updated software.
All a factory reset does is deletes the user files in the /data partition.

Does the update allow you to root anyway with the One click method??
I don't want to screw that up... S-OFF and ON does not change to me.

There is no s=off method yet, but this will remove perm root is you have done it. Supposedly, you just need to do the perm root again.
I have blocked the update so far as I do not see an immediate need for it. I had heard that the patch is for an HTC wide venerability fix.

Should have fixed the fairly major security vulnerability in HTCLoggers.apk which let any app with Internet permission access your contacts, call logs, location tracking, etc.

This update started rolling out about a week and a half ago.. At least that's when I got it.. It was around 10Mb..

I've noticed improvement of my battery life after updating, also the phone doesn't heat up as much as before...

Not really sure what this update did in regards to battery life, but my screen transitions does seem slightly smoother when going from a full page widget to another (example: weather to calendar).
Before installing it did state the package was for "optimisation"...whatever that means

[Q] Should we apply the OTA?

Does anyone know what the OTA does/changes? I would hate to apply it for no significant reason and cost myself a chance at root in the future.
Not until Leo, tmartin, toast, or haus says so. They are working on root

You and anybody else saying that is just as useful as me saying if you take the OTA, you wont have to wait.
At this point everything looks like its just pure speculation, nobody knows for sure.
When would you ever apply an OTA~ I don't recall a situation where it was a good idea LOL
Can't watch the Green Hornet until I update the software. No thanks.
I didn't update mine yet and it played green hornet just fine. It's a shame they didn't put a better movie on here it actually looks pretty darn good. It's the most impressive 3d content I've seen so far on the 3vo

Where did you get your phone, Best Buy?
I applied the update and now my phone shortcut is missing from the lockscreen and the app drawer. I searched online and apparently it's a common issue and HTC is working on yet another update to fix it. Apparently the first OTA update allowed you to connect to the phone via ADB.... so it looks as if they MAY be in the process of unlocking the bootloader for us.
Either way, there are a few small bugs to work out.
I wouldnt apply the OTA.. i know that its not confirmed it will do anything to affect root. However my understanding is the devs working on root didnt do it and im not going to either. Id like my phone to be as similar to the ones they are working on as possible just in case it matters.
On top of that i dont see any problems from not installing the OTA.
Too funny. You guys say you don't trust the OTA but you trust the software that came on the phone to begin with? Anyhow, HTC put out an update for a reason- it fixes things that are broken. If you want a partially functioning and buggy device, do not apply the update. If we had root I could see why people would be so concerned about losing it. However, we do not have root and who knows when we will. So, if until then you want a phone that works properly, apply the update which probably isn't going to change a whole lot in regards to your ability to root.
So if I did apply the update I'm f'ed??

I haven't really noticed anything, however the app update was supposed to fix the constant syncing issue with the "Watch" application. Could help you on battery a bit. I don't think its anything real big.
But, the dev's have recommended not taking the OTA.
I haven't taken it yet everything is smooth for me so far. Heard bad things about taking the OTA that has come out waiting on a newer one.
OTA = Not good and i have had no problems thus far. Hold off because root is so worth it!

i took it so i could watch 3d videos and green hornet..i have not notice any problems.
The OTA had its own bit of issues look it up on the google. It did something funky to the icons and few other issues.
Taking it wont screw up the chance to get root tho just have to wait on HTC to unlocck the phone.

I don't think it is an issue do to the fact that we are still getting the root, therefore in my opinion they were aware of it and the fix was needed to allow 3D Watch to work which means there's still was a bug or two possibly we will get the the root still over this, shouldn't have any effect against the rooted OTA coming
You guys sure are putting a lot of faith in HTC.....No updates for me until I see one that includes the S-Off bootloader. If your phone's truly not performing to your expectations have at it, but if you really want root at the earliest possible time and your phone's working ok without the OTA's......DON'T TAKE THEM. Remember, you can update at anytime, but you can't always revert back to what you had.

The OTAs are fine. "When" HTC puts out the update for the s-off it will be done via the OTA so you'll have to do it then anyways. The whole "I don't want to update because I won't be able to root it" bull**** is just ignorance. In order to get the root you'll have to update, so might as well do it now and get the bug fixes done.
BTW, running all OTAs and my phone runs like a champs with 0 issues.

You're probably right but at the same time, you could be wrong. If someone wants s-off ASAP then it's safest to not do the OTA just to make sure they're running the same version the Devs are trying to crack. Straying from their targeted version is a risk because we don't know what bug they're exploiting. If you're willing to wait for HTC's s-off then sure, OTA away.

Because the OTA updates the bootloader (from v1.30 to v1.40... I think). The current root exploit is only for the OS and when/if s-off is acheived from our devs it may only work on the earlier version. Hboot has control over more than just the OS so if the earlier version has an exploit that the newer version doesn't then everyone who took the OTA may very well be screwing themselves out of s-off until HTC does unlock the bootloader. I myself am going to stay away from any and all updates until either HTC or teamwin or anyone else can give us full root/s-off. My phone runs just fine like it is now, on launch day software.
I just updated to the latest ota, now my dialer icon is gone from the app drawer and lock screen. The dialer is there, but icon is gone... Can someone post the apk for me so I can get the icon back? Thanks.

From what I've seen so far, they are rolling out the software update only in test markets: Salt Lake City, UT and Austin, TX. You may not be able to get the OTA until it is in wide release.
What's interesting is there is a mention today that they pulled the ISIS mention from the update. At least the version remained the same in the two press releases (2.17.605.2 710RD)

Back story:
I was able to get in before they removed unlocking so I'm actually running Hasoon2000's QX senseless rom and have TWRP installed.
I'm sitting here at work and heard my phone make a noise but wasn't paying attention. Then 10 minutes later it's in the process of rebooting itself. It tossed itself into recovery and looking at the log it tried and failed to install the ota update. I'm a little concerned that it just up and tried to install on it's own without asking (or if it did it had a timer). But either way since i'm not running stock it failed.
I'm in Idaho which no one gives a crap about, so i'd say it's global now!

Well like i said i heard it make a noise, but it was the sound i have set for calendar reminders so i ignored it. I'm assuming that was a prompt, and it probably waited 10 minutes for a response before going for default behavior. I think the most worrying part is default behavior in this case is to auto install.
But since I'm running a custom rom it failed so no harm done... to me at least!!!!

Yep killing HTCDM did the trick, my phone is no longer trying to update. I also confirmed from some other posts that HTCDM is the process that checks for updates. So kill it or freeze it if the defer option isn't working (which it doesn't seem to work for anyone) or you're running a custom rom.

Yeah, I see the same thing. It goes from checking to the original options. Have you disabled any system apps?

Yea I have a bunch of system apps disabled, but nothing that I would expect to cause an issue. I don't have root I disabled them through the apps menu in settings and I doubt they would let you disable a system app that would break updates.
