Droid X2 IRC channel_freenode, #dx2 - Motorola Droid X2

Someone should make an irc channel for everyone here. I think It would be very useful.
EDIT: there is a channel, server-freenode, channel-#dx2

yeah, I'm at #Dx2 often but its more geared towards liberty. Plus, its pretty much abandoned. I suppose we could talk about it here so more people go to it but I'm not sure if kejar wants that.

You're talking about the #dx2 channel on the irc.chatandirc.net server. I'm talking about the irc.freenode.net server on the #dx2 channel.

Oooh. Lol thanks.

That's totally inaccurate. It's lewd, vesivius, salacious, outrageous!

How? I get on both irc sites quite often and may see one other person.

well, if we talked about it more and maybe uploaded some roms or bsr or something, more people would come to it.

Very cool. I will add the freenode channel to my irc app. Thanks

I know this is a super stupid question but i havent used IRC since i was like 10 years old back in the old BBS modem days. Can someone just give me a quick refresh on use. What IRC programs work best? I know there's Google i just want a little personal insight.

AndroIRC
Android IRC

Xchat?
Channel and webchat in OP.

Matt,
I just figured this out myself ...
Snag AndroIRC from the Market. Open app, open menu and select Connect. A menu should pop up -- choose Freenode.
You may be prompted to select a new user/sign-on name ... most seem to be using their xda username.
Then re-open menu, and select Actions. Another menu will pop up -- choose Join A Channel. Type in #dx2 and you should be in the chatroom. You can then open menu and choose Users to see whose company you're in ... and chat away.

To access the DX2 channel on IRC, download AndChat Free, launch it, hit the menu button, then tap Add Server, and enter the following data:
Name: andirc
Address: irc.andirc.net
Port: 6667
SSL: (No checkmark)
Nick 1 - Real Name: (I just used variations of MoonShadow-NM)
Autojoin: #DX2
Autorun: Blank
Password: Blank
Encoding: Default or UTF-8
Logs : (Checkmark)
I have confirmed this works over the Verizon 3g connection as well as WIFI.
Just keep in mind that AndChat does run in the background and can be accessed via your pulldown menu. So, it might run down your battery faster if you are not actively using it.
Enjoy!
Ciao!

[Q] Best IRC for nook?

Didn't see any thread about this, but I'm looking for a decent irc app for the nook, currently using androirc. But I'm interested in one that shows the user list for a channel on the screen with the chat.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?
oops, fixed title.

Android IRC shows the userlist in the right when you click the white tab in a channel. I haven't had much experience using other apps, since AndIRC does everything I need, sorry.

You might want to try webchat.freenode.net. It lists the users on the screen along with the chat. Not an app, but it might work for your needs. Of course, it's limited to freenode server.

crap time to get a good binary newsreader again. lmao
actually I miss usenet, my ISP had access to their two usenet servers for awhile (cox east and west) as a complementary service. By the time they decided to discontinue it wasn't even too shabby the retention time was around 30 days and there was no bandwidth limits as far as I could remember, either. Then they stopped. I had a couple friends who worked for easynews which is located just a few miles north of me, or was rather until some other internet service company bought them, almost talked me into a easynews subscription. They sure got an awful lot of crap with relative ease off newsgroups but they also had the worldwide hookups with usenet subscriptions from the connections they made working at easynews.

Couldn't get that one (or any of the others) to connect. Is there a noob-friendly guide to IRC? Also can you minimize (homescreen out) the app and have it notify you when there's activity? I'd like to stay on top of this and any other active Photon/Electrify chat regarding the ICS upgrade if I can, but I'm not always around my desktop. Sometimes the only computer I have is my Electrify.

IRC Channel

Every good phone needs an IRC channel - this one is no exception. I didn't see one around, so...
The IRC channel is located at:
irc.irondust.net #note
Or connect to webchat: IronDust Web IRC
This is primarily for the AT&T and Rogers Galaxy Note, but all Note users are welcome.

Same thing happened to me. I wonder if everyone is banned
yeah im banned too
Looks like someone was flooding the channel during the night and one of the bots set a wide ban that affected anyone using the web portal. Should be fine now.
Awesome!
Ok I had a hell of a time trying to get on this irc when using sprint data. Connecting over wifi is fine but connecting with sprint required me to identify with sasl.
Here's how I did it.
I went to the irc on my computer http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=htc-evo-4g-lte&uio=d4
Chose my nickname, did the captcha and connected. Then I had to register because on the irc android app you are required to identify with sasl because of sprint's network or whatever. Remember this is when connecting on 3G.
In the irc chat box on my pc I typed:
/msg nickserv register your_password your_email_address
just use whichever password or email address you want in the line above. For example:
/msg nickserv register 12345 [email protected]
That registered my nickname with my chosen password and my email address. I had to confirm registration by checking my email and copying the command they sent into the irc chat line. It was like this:
/msg NickServ VERIFY REGISTER jony50 nasndoand8q303jqin
Once I did that I was now registered.
Then I downloaded the andchat app(it allows sasl identification) and followed the setup and allowed it to add a few servers. I selected freenode (maybe had to longpress to edit) and entered the nickname I used to register under username, my password and I also entered #htc-evo-4g-lte in the autojoin line so that when I connect it autojoins the irc I want. You can put whatever name you want in the nick 1 slot and that is the name you will have in irc I believe but I used the name I used to register so my username and nick 1 are the same. The username and password are the two things required to get passed the sasl thing though.
Now when I start andchat and click freenode I am able to automatically connect to the evo lte irc on sprint data and can get through that sasl identification error that seems to happen.
Or, just use wifi and not worry about it I just hate it when stuff doesn't work.
wish there was a way to get to the irc easier
