I'm currently very happy with my HTC 7 Pro, but on November 2nd I'm eligible for an early upgrade on my 24-month behemoth of a contract with Vodafone.
What do you guys think? Do I upgrade early and play with a Nokia WP even though I'll be keeping the must-have physical keyboard of my 7 Pro, or do I let the last 6 months run and wait for the (well, there'd better be one) upgraded 7 Pro?

Absolutely not. Nokias are fake. and not what they used to be.
I would have to say no. If you already have a WP7 device ther is no reason to get this thing. To quote an earlier post of mine:
"I was going to buy this phone to replace/upgrade my Focus but there is ZERO reason for me to now. I'm waiting until Windows Phone 8 before I upgrade. The 2nd generation devices aren't a big enough of a leap over the 1st gen to justify upgrading.

Not for me, thank god (my Focus is a year old so it'd be an early upgrade). There isn't a massive performance difference between the phones and the whole pentile thing never really bothered me.
I figure if you wait out the full 24 months of a contract, you'll get a TRUE jump. in performance. The generation after this one should be over 2x as fast as the 1st gen phones when it comes to CPU, over 4x as fast when it comes to GPU, be LTE, yadda yadda yadda. They might even exceed that when you consider that those specs are today's high end Android phones.

Good reasoning.
Unless you plan to use video chat, the only thing wrong with the phone is the 16 GB in storage. However, compared to other phones in the same price range (e.g. the HTC Radar), 16 GB is pretty good. If you can find a way to get by with only a part of your media collection stored on your phone, then it should be worth it. The looks alone set it apart from every other phone in that price range, including Android phones.
Personally, I would wait.
If your 7 Pro is your primary device, you'll get most benefit from upgrading that. Otherwise, you would have to carry two phones with you or use your Nokia like an iPod Touch.
i.e. in 6 months time you'll have more options and won't have buyers remorse if someone releases an awesome phone with a keyboard before then.
Even if there are no better phones with a keyboard, Nokia are likely to have released additional devices within 6 months e.g. the rumoured Nokia Ace and possibly more. I think it is quite likely that Nokia will eventually produce a WP device with a keyboard - not sure if it will arrive within 6 months though.

I'd rather have a 4" screen than a 3.7" and they are both AMOLED screens with basically the same PenTile tech. CBD and Super AMOLED are basically equal picture quality and viewing angle wise, and if I had to pick I'd take the 4" screen.
Second, storage is important to me. I have the 24gb on my focus filled and I'm pondering getting a 32gb card to bump up to 40gb. I only have 200mb on my data plan (and this is all I'm gonna pay for as I never really use more) so the 25gb on SkyDrive means **** to me. I wan't storage and I would gladly pay for it so for them to not offer it is dumb, or at the very worst give ME the option to pay for an SD card to install.
Thirdly I use skype alot, my next phone HAS to have a FFC for Nokia to not offer it in this phone is dumb. They had to go out of thier way to remove it from the design they had already in the N9. Just plain dumb.
I'm not hating on Nokia. I WANTED TO GET THIS PHONE after seeing the N9. I had assumed they wouldn't trash all the nice things with it but they did. Smaller screen, smaller storage, no FFC. ALL FAIL.
I really don't think it's with it. WP7 is already silky smooth as it is on a underclocked processor, you don't need an overclocked one. I would wait until quadcores come out which they should since MS decided to skip out on dualcores. I'm thinking more powerful OS in the future we might see Windows 8 since Nvidia showed it running on their ARM Kal-El quadcore processor. So in short just wait, not worth the upgrade to be wasted.

No way. Even if it had a 4" screen, I would not have thought of buying this and selling my one month old focus which I bought for 250$. Lumia 800 is now $585, as I read somewhere.
My focus is already far superior than this 800. Yesterday only I showed this phone to my cousin. And she told me to tell its price as $700 to others just to show off. None will doubt it.
If you put 800 and focus side by side, none will doubt that focus is costlier.
Apart from an extra navigation app, focus has pluses like upgradeable to 40 GB, 4" screen smoled. I think my focus is an upgrade over this 800.
And going from focus to 800 is just a downgrade and that too by paying additional loss of $350-400. Its utterly ridiculous.

How do you know that? 800 has much better materials, a supposedly better screen (there were mentions about it after looking at both phones side by side), and a much more appealing design.
Also, you are comparing subsidized and open market prices.
Unless it's below $100 contract free, then no. I will wait for WP8 and even then wouldn't get a new phone if my Quantum can be upgraded to wp8. wp7 is very smooth on 1G processor, I see little reason to move to better hardware. Maybe switch to focus if it's a equal trade.

I prefer the Focus design more than the 800. I love holding my Focus, it feels good in the hand and looks good to behold. The display is outstanding and an excellent compliment to the style of WP7.
First thing first, a 24 months contract is never worth it. You're better off paying part of the phone and get a shorter contract.
That aside I don't think any of the new phones is worth an upgrade unless you're desperate for a front facing camera, in which case Nokia is out of the equation. All the first gen phones run Mango well, there are no apps or games that necessitate a faster processor, the cameras are fine, really I can't see a valid reason to upgrade. Only larger internal storage would be worth an upgrade and it can now only come from the Focus S which I doubt very much will happen.
Keep your upgrade option in the air for when a proper phone arrives, I know it's hard because there's that desire to get something new and shiny but all thing considered it's not worth it, especially on a 24 months contract.

It's too small, the display is not flat. It has no FFC and the memory is limited to 16GB. It's also one of the thickest phones around. And it isn't aluminum.

i understand why you and some people would say about the size memory and ffc though for me i think the size is great as with my hd7 i did find my trouser pulled where is was so huge. ffc i dont think will get used anything like the amount ppl complain about it not being there. Mem is fair i would of wanted more but plus sides out weigh this.
HOWEVER not being aluminum is nothing but one of the best things to happen to this phone. Its a single moulded peice of polycarbonate so it will feel stirdier than any metal phone as well as having the advantage of 1. not showing scratches and most important 2 it does not mess up the antenna so your signal will be massivly improved. I do not get how anybody could consider this a bad thing at all but rather the best thing to ever happen to a phone.

yes when you can scroll though a grid of icons, yes i see thats so much better whilst watching your battery drain away.
My opinion is this is the best looking phone since the nokia 8850. That with amazing build and one of the best screens on any device makes this a must have. Then add the extra Nokia features plus the great camera not the best no, but up there and at a price point that makes iPhone look even more stupidly overpriced make this a true winner

I know it sucks esp as i am scrapping the walls already and i get mine in 2 days (one way or another) but if i lived in the USA i would advise waiting for the new year. I very strongly suspect they will bring a different version of the Lumia 800 with improved specs ie ffc and 32/64gb. I remember reading they said they will be bringing out top spec devices in usa in q1. I also suspect you will get a look in first at the 900/ace/champaign. Its a bit like htc with the hd2 you had to wait but you got the good stuff.
I just feel that unless you can afford to blow the cash for 2 months of use you will kick yourself for jumping in to early. Plus I dont think you get the full data speeds on t-mobile but that i am unsure of.

it really is beautiful. amoled looks great at first sight. (on second sight the letters dont look "clean"). its really fast. compared to the titan it seems much snappier when scrolling trough the ui.
however its so tiny.. i cant imagine to use it for long web-browsing sessions.
also.. 16gb non expandable is a joke these days. With 64GB i would have bought it instantly. Being one sexy music player could be a good selling point..

This Phone is just gorgeous! Got it yesterday and everyone i showed i to, was impressed about the build quality and about the design, even hardcore iPhone and Apple fans.
The N9 might have more features, but it is really expensive and it was dead before even released. MeeGo is dead, so i don't care about the N9.

People just say this rubbish because its thein thing to say or like anything that results in a direct diss to Microsoft. It is a worrying trend esp when even with all there faults, and there are many, Microsoft is still the best option for most. At the end of the day it is the end users that miss out and we will all miss out big style if it continues. Even MS cant take this bad attitude towards it for ever and that will lend us to a world dominated by apple clones and/or software made in peoples bedrooms. I love android i love linux but could i live with just them all the time? Not a chance. Like it or not MS is leading the way in the tech world with everything from office 365 to windows 8 to xbox live to exchange to hyperV etc. What would the world be like without then? We geeks would be fine we have linux but what about my mum and my sister etc? what about me trying to administer our network without active directory and group policy? Everyone says MS steals technology yet we keep forgeting they are normally the first to come with it they just get beat down or mess it up but they ae there pushing forward and inovating. Windows phone is just one example along with Windows 8 of how MS is set to change the game for the better if only we let them.

There are two major and two minor issues I have with this phone.
First is Pentile. There are two types of people - those who see it and those who don't. I do, so I was thinking about returning the phone at first. Now I'm sort of living with it, but still black text on white background looks like crap to me.
Second is no equalizer.
The two minor issues are the fact that the USB port is located on top of the device and that it has a lid. This is less annoying than Pentile but still very awkward.
Otherwise it's a great phone.
Hi there. I know there are some threads about this but they are seriously outdated.
I have an Atrix that I bought in the summer off of eBay and I love it. I'm running CM7 Ba2tF and everything works great (I'm getting 3 days of battery with moderate use). Thing is: my girlfriend loves it too, she has an old Nokia and has been thinking about upgrading for a while, so I was thinking about getting her an Atrix for Christmas.
There are some pretty affordable Atrixes on eBay now, but my question is: is it worth it to buy one now?
My girlfriend doesn't need the latest hardware, but it would be nice to have a decent phone (which the Atrix certainly is). She also doesn't need the latest software, but the Atrix seems more than capable to run ICS (either officially or not).
So do you think there are other phones for about the same price on eBay (200-250 €/270-340$) that would be a better deal than the Atrix?
Edit: I forgot to mention that we live in Portugal, and don't have a lot of money, that's the reason for wanting to buy an affordable (possibly used) phone on eBay. It obviously can't have a contract and must be SIM unlocked/easily unlockable.

ATRIX is one great phone that brought Motorola from its grave however there are better phones out there now and if u wanna wait, there will be even more.

I agree, but the reason i asked this is because we don't have a lot of money, and we don't live in the USA, so we can't buy new phones for a couple hundred bucks (I should have probably mentioned that). We are looking for an affordable phone, that's also a bit future proof, even if it is not the most recent device out there.

If I were strapped for cash I would get one if I could get a good deal. It's a great phone. I'm just a technoholic, so I'm looking for my next one right now. With 5 phones on our plan, I get 5 times the chance for a nice upgrade!

I think atrix is a great phone, I had it since the week they came out and still love it. I say get it, it's an awsome phone for the price and the specs that it has.
Although I'm running a different rom on it, I think the stock version runs great too for anyone getting into androids or smartphones.

ATT is running a deal to get an Atrix 4g for a penny with contract extension. Being cash strapped and wanting an android device that doesn't suck to replace my old Curve just became an option.
Also consider replacement costs if you don't have insurance. Depending on where you live I am guessing this could be more or less expensive. If you don't have phone insurance through a carrier, you can always ask about adding the phone to your home or renters insurance.
I'd say get it!
The Atrix 4G is anything but an old and budget smartphone.
It still has great specs and even better than some of the latest and greatest.
Just for fun let's compare it to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and the Atrix has many features the Nexus don't have, like huge battery, hdmi out, webtop, lots of accesories to choose from, a screen that will outlast that on the Nexus due to image burn-in problem on AMOLEDs, ICS capable, memory expansion through micro-sd, fingerprint scanner that really works great, and best of all, CHEAPER!
P.S.- I'm not saying that SGN is not a great phone, but on feature/cost ratio the Atrix blows it out of the water.

Well the problem I see by purchasing any type of used AMOLED based smartphones is that the buyer runs the risk of getting a device with a burned-in screen.
For those not familiar with this "burn-in" term here's a brief explanation:
AMOLED based screens (even new ones like Super AMOLED +) use organic leds that produce it's own light, so there is no need of an electroluminicent backlight like that on normal LCDs, colors are brilliant (oversaturated to some) but the downside to this new technology is that unfortunately blue leds tend to degrade faster than the other colors, so after just a few months of use (according to reports all around xda and other sites) the user start to see ghosting or burn-in effects on screen, specially visible on whites.
That's one of the primary reasons why we got a change of color scheme starting on Android 2.2 Froyo like dark top task bars where static icons and information tend to burn-in quicker.
So, in conclussion, I would avoid purchasing any AMOLED based smartphone without looking at it first IN PERSON!.
How to check?
Simply hold the device and pump the brightness all the way to the max settings and then have a blank WHITE screen (i.e. maximized or zoomed in blank white web page) and look for ghost images specially where the top bar sits, or even squared and ghostly icons where the program icons used to sit).
There are lots of videos and pictures all over to see what to look for.

Definitely get an atrix over galaxy S. Much more powerful phone. The price on galaxy S is artificially high due to demand for replacements from a lot of people that bought them. See that a lot on the used market with the mass consumer market phones just like old iphones.

Forget the old Galaxy...I had one and it was crap. Slow, not enough memory, laggy, Froyo.
I read all the android news every day looking for my next phone. So far the only one that is tempting me is the Motorola Dinara, or XT928 coming to AT&T soon. It is a 4.5 inch screen and true HD 1280 x 960. The ones being delivered to AT&T will have removeable batteries, 1.2 GH dual core, and I like the design. Price will be a factor so I won't be able to actually purchase it till 6 months down the road. Whatever the case the longer you wait the more powerful phone you will get, its just the was it goes.
I think the ATRIX 2 with a fingerprint scanner would be a fantastic device for the $100 asking price. Recently played with one, I liked it.
I was in the same position of yours couple of weeks ago. My budget was around $300-350. I couldn't find any phone better than Atrix 4G on this budget! Man its one of the greatest phone still now in the market & it has the lower price of them all. Its the great phone with a great price! If I had money I'd buy another atrix!
16 GB internal, 1910mAh battery, 1Ghz processor. How many phones out there beats that?

Yes, I would but the Atrix again today. I am not the "chase the hottest thing today" kind of guy.
Atrix has very good specs in dual core CPU and 1 gig of ram. Remember that most phones are still single core.
I will listen to upgrade arguments when there will be a single app that requires more raw hardware power than what Atrix provides.
I would happily purchase the Atrix again today, it's the best phone I've ever had. Ill be waiting for a good quad core phone before I replace mine.

Thinking about dumping Verizon due to their amazingly crappy selection of phones. It also doesn't help that their network in the Seattle area is frequently the 1G network (works great elsewhere when I travel). Primarily I need a phone that has a minimum 48gb space (with SD card) and a large screen. Just wondering the satisfaction with this phone. Currently I'm using a Dinc 1 but it's getting old and the screen is nowhere near the size of the Note.
My gf has a dinc 1, there is no comparison between it and the note. Completely different league of device.
i had a captivate before the note, and even comparing that to the dinc, the dinc comes up short, but now that i have and am used to the note, they both feel like toys in my hand. Just Tiny.
If you want that much space, and a big screen, the note is the biggest screen around. I am really happy with it.
i have been super happy with the note. i would certainly buy it again. i dont regret picking it up on launch day at all.
+1 to studacris as well. everything else seems to tiny. i gave my son my skyrocket and even that 4.5 inch screen seems small. i couldnt not imagine those that have the 3.5 inch screen...cough cough damn fruits.

Yes. Screen size has become a much more meaningful spec to me these days. Hopefully they will have a new version (same screen size) out by the time I'm ready for an upgrade. Given Samsung's track record for new phones this seems highly likely. It will be hard to go to a smaller screen, no matter how many megapixels and cores they throw in these phones. When I had the Skyrocket I continued to stay abreast on the latest phones and was also thinking of buying the Nook Tab. Now that I have the GNote I'm not concerened anymore about the upcoming latest and greatest phone/tab. I'm about as satisfied as one can be.

Definitely would buy again. I am ruined from all other phones, they are just too small now.
The Note is a great phone. I carry my skyrocket while at work. I'm a crane operator so the Note is not practical for that environment and I mostly use my phone for music while working. After work its all Note, especially when I'm out running errands and handling business. I can make notes, schedule appts, make grocery list, create and track agendas etc, much easier and quicker with the Note than I can with my other phones. Reading an ebook in the bed is great on the Note. Also the S-Pen is very nice (Mr. Jobs clearly was wrong), can have a little lag, but I'm sure that will be ironed out in the future.
No question I would buy the Note again.
Awesome phone (one of if not THE best there is today) and I love the feature set as well as capabilities, but the longer I own it, I've got to admit, the more cumbersome it becomes.
I really do like the phone a lot, but I find that I do so in spite of its size. Sure, I love the screen size for the sake of what it "shows you", but form-factor wise from an overall hardware perspective, it's just proving over time to be too big IMHO, and I'm an avg sized guy w/avg to slightly larger-than-avg sized hands.
In short, I don't plan on selling it anytime soon (I'm under contract until Sept 2013, and I'm not a phone jockey who buys and sells these things on eBay like packs of tube socks), but I can't say with any amount of honesty that I'd buy a phone that even approaches this size again.
I'm sure someone's gonna flame me for this response, but I am hoping that the point of this thread is honest disclosure and not just for back-slapping among Note-owners.

Big time happy with the Note... came from an Infuse 4G and Blackberry Torch before that. No looking back!
No other phone currently on the market appeals to me. I would therefore happily buy the note again.
I would buy it again! Most definitely. The Note is coming to Sprint when they release their LTE. Not sure when or if Verizon is going to release it. The htc one x looks nice BUT I will definitely wait for a NOTE 2. I wont go back to a smaller screen.

I had the iPhone 4 before and the only thing I miss is the Retina Display,other than that, the Galaxy Note is the best phone I've ever had.

Sound like a good honest opinion to me. I personally went for the note for the screen size as the number one factor. I'll probably stick with it until the note 2 comes out, but if I were like you and wanted something smaller I'd probably be looking closely at the sgs3 or asus padfone.

The Note is a great phone the screen size is great for web browesing and watching hd videos (minus the Black crush/Clipping issues that hopefully will be fixed with ICS) But with the SG3 coming out next month with a 4.65 super amoled+ display with true RBG tiles 300+ ppi, quad core exynos LTE chip inside, ICS onboard at launch (still none of these specs are official just expected).If I were off contract I would have a hard time deciding get the Note or wait for the SG3 or wait longer til Nov for the Note2 with better specs than the SG3. It all depends on what you want out of it and if you want to wait. Personally I like to get a new phone at launch keep it for 20 or more months til the next launch of great phone so I guess I'll be waiting for the Note 3!
The negatives to know about...
The Note does not yet have NFC (Near Field Communication) but there is a custom software fix to enable it (requires root and CWM to install).
The screen also has 2 issues, what some have called black crush, and another completely separate issue called banding. The banding was my issue (I havent noticed any of the "black crush' issues people have been mentioning). I found a setting under the display options to disable saving screen power and it took a day or two and the banding began to disappear (it wasnt an immediate fix).
The last thing about the display is that it is a pentile display. Colours arent 100% accurate so if you are super sensitive to this, you'll notice. The display is a high contrast and slightly over saturated with colour as well so expect this.
The phone does not have the same high quality sound processor that the Captivate had. In fact, its quite lousy. I mean, it works but the experience will be very similar to a built in sound chip on a motherboard rather than having a dedicated sound card.
The phone also does not have a quadcore processor because ATTs LTE does not yet work with quadcores (dont ask me why).
Some have argued that the video chip on the Note is not as fast as Qualcomms.
The last over all issue is the size. Its huge. Its massive. It took nearly a week for me to get used to the size. The biggest problem with the size is that it will occasionally require two hands to reach certain screen locations. You should be aware of this if you occasionally need to do something with your phone and need one free hand (driving for example).
Touchwiz sucks.
On the dev side, things are moving rather slowly compared to other phones, primarily because we still dont have any source code yet (based on my understanding anyway). Once source code is floating around, most of the software issues will be resolved (like Touchwiz).
Now, it may seem like I just trashed the phone. Honestly, I believe in knowing all the negatives up front. Personally, I like my Note. Every phone has its own problems, not one of them is perfect.
Most of the display issues (which are the bulk of the problems) I personally am ok with but Im not super picky in this regard. The sound chip does bother me, Im more of a sound person as I am a musician. The phone having a dual core is fine considering I rarely utilize half of this phones processing power. NFC doesnt bother me because I simply dont have a use case for it.
Would I get a different phone? Probably not.
But if you are considering a different phone specifically due to size, take a look at the Galaxy S2 (the sky rocket on ATT but every carrier has their own branded version). The Galaxy S2 doesnt have most of the screen issues the Note has and is more manageable to people with smaller hands while still being a fantastically great phone (I have two Galaxy S2's).
I dont believe in looking to the future unless you are looking at most a month in the future. If you do, you'll never buy a new piece of hardware as there is always something better around the corner.
I believe the Galaxy S2 or the Note are both future proof thru the next 2 years. While there are better phones coming, these phones are getting to the point that 99% of users will never achieve more than 80% of these newer phones full potential. Processing power is more than enough for anything coming in the next couple of years. Hell, other than the screen size, my Samsung Captivate is more than capable of doing everything out right now and my Captivate is two years old.
For the time being, I would repurchase the Note. Even with ICS still being refined for the time being, it's the most 'future-proof' phone for the time being. It should have this status for at least the next year span (or at least for 6 months).
Considering that I went from the Streak to this, the next 'successor phone' has to be a phablet again....be it Samsung or whichever vendor steps up their game.
Like right now, the One X looks ok...but honestly looks like a GS2 replica basically. (I personally haven't tried it yet...but that's just from skimming online articles about it).
Buy it. You will not be disappointed.

Yep without a doubt. Came from an iPhone4. Using one of those now the screen is tiny and it feels like a toy.
I have purchased the Note three times. My girlfriend has one, and I just went back to the Note after trying iPhone for two weeks.

Actually I was only disappointed by the design ,, but also some people who tried the galaxy s3 in the unpcak , said that it feels good in the hands

the main selling point for me is the screen..we tech nerds like clear screen and picky about it maybe i just have good eye sight or got spoiled on my crappy iphone 4 screen had the note but returned it do to screen pixel issues and waited for theGS3 to come out but now im a bit eh about it due to screen should of been a plus+ HD..so tomorrow im going to best buy and get the HTC One X for a test drive..
like about GS3..screen size is nice/battery/SD card slot removable/design is ok not drooling over it could of been better like that mock up pic with that big clock widget on it that was nice mock up..just not digging the pentile screen..
like on HTC One X..design/screen...dont like..no sd card/removable battery/16GB on att version i think i can live with 16GB plus the 25/30GB of drop box thanks to grandfather unlimited data but still get slown down at 5GB on LTE but i can live with it.ill hit around that much of data by the end of the month..att sucks for doing this.! att version should have came with 32GB internal as well like the international version..plus the battery could of been a 2000mah for more use but i think the S4 chip helps with power consumption just depends on user/settings/how they use it ect.. if the HTC One X had a SD card slot and removable battery that would of been a winner IMO..

I like the front design which looks like a Nexus device, but not the back. Overall neutral, its expected from Samsung, I have zero worry about build quality. I also feel Samsung shouldn't pay Microsoft the Android royalty fees and as for Foxconn.. nm

I generally reserve these feelings for women, but... Yes the benchmark of the Exynos quadcore is very good and it has Wolfson DAC for excellent sound quality. I'm not impressed by other features, overall its a fair improvement, but major leap from the SII.
3-are you going to buy it ?
No, I just bought a Galaxy Nexus. I do think the SIII is a great phone, but I'm not willing to buy it for its (predicted) released price when there are much cheaper Galaxy models that work just as well even though not as powerful, not to mention the One X and S. Though I will likely buy one during Christmas time if the price drop a lot by then, which I don't think it will due to quadcore still being a big fad. So I predict waiting for the next Nexus device, but I doubt I can resist the temptation to try out a different phone once every few months.
1) i like the look for the fact that they have gone for a minamilistic look in a rather hungry market.
2) i believe it will satisfy me
3) pre-ordered as soon as i could have which was the following morning, guy on phone said "this is the first one i have put through" and this was at like 9.05 am

1-i think its a great looking phone. but i am worried about the mm of black in between the edge of the screen and the beginning of the bezel. i am hoping that it was just an issue with the pre-production models. otherwise... its a huge flaw in my book. its like painting your living room without 'cutting in'... sloppy.
other than that i am totally digging everything samsung has done this time around. the software tweaks alone make this phone a little nugget of gold in my opinion. the gs2 is/was a great phone. the gs3 ups the bar for each and every manufacturer of each and every os. the gs3 totally stands out from the crowd in software.
2-i think you can probably tell that i am satisfied. i knew that the hardware was going to be very similar to the one x and the design was going to be normal samsung. i was on engadget a couple days before the release saying that in order for samsung to keep the removable battery... i feared that would mean a plastic back. so the design and 'plasticyness' of it was of no surprise to me.
i must say though that i was definitely pleasantly surprised with all of the software tweaks within touchwiz (which i actually dont mind). we knew the eye tracking stay awake thing was coming, but i was impressed with the pip. the raise to call. these new lockscreen gestures. the airplay and airplay powerpoint. etc.
3- i dunno. if i do buy it then i will most likely buy the international version. it will be a while before att gets lte into nashville. if it is anything like their uverse roll-out then i will be the last city to get it. not to mention i read somewhere that they needed to buy crickets lte spectrum in order to cover those areas, and just the other day i read that cricket was going to start rolling out their own lte soon. so things arent looking good for me and an hspa+ phone will be all i need for the next year until the gs4 is released. and i for sure dont care to buy a phone that has the same processor as every other high end phone that hits the states.

i was the same way when i went from the 4 and then a week of the 4s to the gs2. i couldnt wrap my head around not being able to read the small text when browsing. i eventually got used to it after a couple of months, but it did take that long for it to happen. if it wasnt for me loving android so much more than ios i probably would have gone back to the iphone myself.
i hope by test drive you mean 'until the gs3 comes out'. lol. the ppi is hitting 306 on a 4.8" screen. you arent going to care that it is pentile. the droid razr screen is pentile and i can barely tell a dif from my amoled+ gs2. if i were you i would wait another couple of weeks before i bought the one x. by then there will probably be a tentative date for the us release and if you time it right... you can get a months worth of use out of the one x and then return it for $35 when the gs3 comes out.
Just watched the Surface Duo 2 announcement & reveal. I gotta say, I'm excited.
A few key complaints were solved, and some far beyond what I expected.
The glance bar seen at the hinge when closed...that's effin fantastic. Can see notifications with device closed.
Camera improvements (well not so much improved as it is actually in existence now, lol) - Though I imagine the camera bump will create some awkwardness when device fully open or laying flat on table, etc.
Pen magnetically attached to cover. I like it a lot...but can foresee issues with device protection options.
The curved screens...I guess they are supposed to help lessen the gap between screens visually. Got me curious here. (and, how do you protect that?)
No mention of water / dust resistance - maybe we'll see something in spec sheet.
Obviously thankful for the Snapdragon 888 and 5G connectivity!!

It's a hard pass for me. Upgrades are minimal, and there's no reason to think that this new version won't contain all of the same problems that my current Duo has. At a starting price of $1,499, all you're really getting is the addition of a mid-range camera and a notification hinge.
Even with the Android 11 update, Duo owners will still be a solid year behind other new flagships in software. If the Duo 2 drops to $400 like the first one did, I'll buy it. But not at this price. Very disappointed.

Good points for sure.
I think Microsoft is trying to put themselves in the same tier as Apple and Samsung...without the credibility and established trust with consumer. They want their pricing structure to be in line with those companies, yet they haven't proven themselves capable at this point.
There is appeal for the business community, and in the large corporate sector there isn't quite the issue with pricing as your average consumer. For productivity the Duo stands mostly alone in it's form factor, IF it works as intended.
I am really shocked that in looking to pre-order, there is NO trade in option at all. This kinda pisses me off, truth be told. I fully expected to be able to trade in my Duo 1 towards the Duo 2. THIS is a huge slap in the face in my opinion. SCRATCH THAT, found it...their process is different from what I've been used to. TRADE IN VALUE FOR AT&T MODEL IS $475 - 1st Gen Galaxy Fold $600

I think you are underestimating this upgrade Roni. The higher RAM + high refresh screens gets this product closer to its vision (of being a portable productivity tool) more than you think. We'll have to wait for the reviews.
Also, Roni, you got the Surface 1 on firesale at Woot. Imagine getting Duo 2 for $500...then would you get it?

Yeah but 8GB of RAM and a 90Hz display upgrade is just giving this phone what every other flagship has already had for over a year. These are just obligatory minor upgrades. I don't see that these will add any value to the productivity aspect. Checking my email in 90Hz doesn't change the fact that my muscles are small and unimpressive.
Even though Microsoft made some big improvements, I'm going to pass this time. I've gotten used to wireless charging (been using it for over 5 years).
I have a Note 10+ 5G and a Tab S7 (both running Microsoft Launcher and 512GB). I've got the best of both worlds right now.
