[Q] XWKI8 Screen not timing out - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I recently updated to the XWKI8 stock firmware and now the screen fails to time out I have tried setting the time out to 15s/30s/1 min but the screen never switches off.
Is this a know issue? Is there any work around? I am getting fantastic battery time gains by upgrading from 2.3.3 but all is lost the moment the screen gets turned on due to an incoming message (when the phone is in my pocket) and then never gets turned off)

1) Tried normal reboot since flash?
2) Updated via Kies? So maybe you try to reflash it but then you have to do it via Odin (Kies just see that it's the actually one)

Please try the following - if not already done:
1. Wipe cache partition in recovery mode (Volume UP + Home + Power).
2. If you have CWM then also clear Dalvik cache (for Java VM).
If that does not help either, you may have to make a hard reset (*2767*3855#).
As this will wipe internal SD card, be sure to have everything in a backup elsewhere.
EDIT:
Here is another guess to try before.
There are two different places where you can set the screen off time.
The one you found is (I am sure) in Menu => Settings => Display => Screen timeout.
The other one is in Menu => Locations and Security => Timeout.
Maybe there is an other value set on your phone.
Try to change this setting before wiping everything.
Good luck !

Resolved!
A combination of the above two suggestions resolved the problem. Tried setting and unsetting security options and rebooting. It seems to be working now.
Thanks guys!

[Q] Several issues with my HD2 and am running out of ideas

This week I stalled an app which totally ****ed up my HD2. I don't remember the name of the app, but installing it resulted in the following:
-Whenever I press the home hardbutton my navipanel starts up and it is very hard to turn it off.
-Whenever I open an sms or email the screen automatically tilts to the landscape mode and doesn't tilt back.
-Whenever I open opera browser the screen automatically tilts to the landscape mode and doesn't tilt back.
-Start softbutton not working.
This is all quite annoying so I did a reset to factory settings. However this didn't solve the problem, so I am assuming that dreadfull app I installed did an override on the factory settings.
So the next thing I tried was installing the latest rom from the htc website, which should have been an easy thing. However it failed midway. Now the issue is that my computer doesn't not recognize my HD2 anymore when I connect it with the cable.
So the question is? What do I do now? I was hoping anyone could help me with this problem. Before when I was a student I had plenty of time to search the net/forums for a solution, but now I am working full time and I already spend most of my weekend trying to solve this issue. So please anyone help me out

i have to leave for work in 5 minutes so i won't be able to follow this up...but..
when you say factory reset, did everything else go back to what it was as you bought it?
1- can you get to bootloader (when booting up phone hold the "down volume"-- i think it is down, may be up. try it.)
2- if so you are good.
3- in bootloader flash hspl
4- flash new rom
I performed the factory reset multiple times and by 2 methods.
-setting->return to factory settings
-turning off the device-> press down the volume up/down buttons and press cancel call button
All settings were turned back to the original settings however the 2 problems (1: tilting screens and 2: unable to detect device on computer) did not disappear.
I tried to do what jsmccabe78 said, but my device just booted up like normal. No bootloader screen or anything.
I have anyone else has an idea.
Make a backup of your contact list.
And make a Hard reset!
In difficult situations, you can maybe use/do a "Task 29"
using the second option I described is a hard reset
try reflashing a stock ROM.

now what do you see when you boot your phone? have you tried deleting the settings for your phone on your computer for wmdc/activsync? 0have you tried uninstalling wmdc and reinstalling? try those first.
now, if your computer still does not recognize your phone your next option is to load another rom - whether it is a newer official rom or a customized one (your choice.) if you cannot connect your phone you will need to do this with bootloader.
if you can boot your phone, you can get into bootloader.
to get to bootloader:
turn phone off.
hold "volume down" button key.
turn phone on.
this will get you to bootloader. if this doesn't work, i am out of ideas. you need a new rom and you can flash from an storage card, but you need to have hspl first.
let me know.
now you can 1- flash hspl and 2- flash new rom
Sorry for the late response jsmccabe78. Thank you for your response. I got my phone into bootloader mode which enabled me to make a link to my computer. I ran the stock rom that I downloaded from the htc website and it installed succesfully.
Unfortunately this did not solve the problems I described in the OP.

Also my computer still doesn't not recognize my HD2 outside of bootloader mode. Reinstalling WMDC did not solve this issue.
I am still thinking these issues are software related and not hardware related. But reinstalling the stockrom should have fixed the issues if it was software related shoud it not?
So 2 questions remain;
1) How do I fix the issues in the OP
2) How do I get my computer to recognize my HD2 outside of bootloader
I hope anyone can help me solve this mystery.
Try it with no sd card in and see if you still have the problems? If you do :Take out your sd card and put it into your pc with card adaptor. Then delete the application data folder on your sd card. If that doesn't work make a back up of whatever stuff is on your sd card and then re-format it, then and copy back your apps and stuff. If you had a rough idea of what it was you installed try and leave that out when you copy your files back to sd. If you didnt have much on your sd card i would suggest to just wipe it totally and start again. Hopefully this should sort it, if not im out of ideas. Hope this helps if not soz but thought id try
I formatted my SD card, used the return-to-factory-settings function again and still the same issues. No connection to my computer and all the above issues... getting a bit desperate here...
Does anyone have an idea what could be the problem here?

Changing Firmware - small problems

Hi,
Originally my phone was from the UK Carphone Warehouse (CPW)
I have upgraded it from 2.2 to 2.3 etc...
The last time I did a firmware upgrade to ICS was a few months back and I didn't have any problem doing it.
After the upgrade, I had a few bugs. I used this file - GT-I9100_XEO_I9100XXLPW_I9100OXALPW_I9100XXLPW.tar and the main bugs I have are - The screen won't lock and when I press the Power Button, it will turn the screen off but when I hold it for 1 second the phone closes down.
So today I thought, lets see if I can change my firmware to a CPW version, so I downloaded GT-I9100_XEU_I9100XWLP7_I9100XXLPS_I9100XEULP5.tar and installed that. It went through the usual stuff and upon restarting I was getting an "android.core" crash. The screen stops working and after several reboots nothing change. I also booted up and cleared the cache, and this didn't do anything either.
I have just reverted back to the first ICS upgrade but still has not screen lock or when I press the power button for 1 second it closes down.
I wondered if anyone else has had these problems or could recommend to me what may fix it.
I appreciate all help
Thanks

[Q] Samsung Galaxy SIII (GT-I9300) International Crashing And Rebooting

Hi, I'm having a curious problem with my S3 and I've been unable to solve it. I watched the "noob" video and tried searching these forums as well as a google search with various combinations of the wording for my problem. Nothing matching my issue turned up, I hope I didn't miss anything.
I recently bought a S3 second hand (yes, i know, i should have known better). It was rooted and running some kind of custom ROM when I first turned it on, but I was willing to deal with it until I double checked the procedure for getting it back to stock and starting again myself (nothing against the original rooting and flashing, just like to know exactly what I'm running).
When I purchased the phone I obviously checked that all of the main things worked - calling, texts, mobile data, wi-fi etc. I get home and connect to my home wi-fi and start checking things out and setting stuff up. The phone randomly rebooted. I carry on after the reboot and about 10 mins later, another restart.
To cut a long story short, there is something wrong with the wi-fi. If I turn off wi-fi in the settings menu and reboot, everything works great. No crashes, no reboots. If however I enable the wi-fi about 50% of the time it will crash while wi-fi is activating. The other 50% of the time, it will crash as it goes into the screen lock (either via timeout or pressing the button).
I've re-flashed to it's stock version of Android (using the 'Samsung GS3 Toolkit and Odin), same problem. Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks in advance
You can try updating the modem and RIL to the right version for your country, search in general forum. If it still reboots then try with another wifi source - I've seen some routers cause problems on client machines.
If you do a factory reset when you flash the modem, plus you have the latest stock ROM on board, then any remaining problems are probably hardware.
Test it fully after the factory reset, before you add any apps etc.

After much experimentation and flashing of various files to my phone I have further narrowed the problem. I've still not solved it, but getting closer I feel.
After a clean ROM flash it works like a charm regardless of how much i use the wifi etc. It's only after the first reboot that the trouble starts. It will begin randomly restarting. If I perform a factory reset from recovery mode, it works again, but starts resetting again after a reboot.
Any ideas?

[Q] Phone/Launcher keeps rebooting

First off all, I'm not sure if this question is answered else where.
I have my S2 almost since the day it came out in NL.
Today a problem occurred. After I boot my phone it keeps rebooting the launcher (not sure if that's the correct name). The phone it self stay's on, I don't go back to the Samsung logo or what else - just Android it self keeps rebooting.
I run Go Launcher Ex for a long time, never had problems with it.
I assume it's a memory problem.
Had a similar problem about a year ago, where my internal memory was stuffed. After removing some apps etc. my phone was just fine again. Problem today is I cant do anything. Connection with pc fails, because of the rebooting software. I'm not even fast enough to get to the Android settings.
Edit: I tried booting in Safe Mode. Which works, till it reboots into normal mode.. and keeps rebooting. And of course there's no time to get something done in safe mode.
- Phone get's really hot when this all happens. An other indication for a stuffed memory(card) I think?
- Removed the SD + SIM, no changes.
Edit:
I was quick enough to change the launcher to something else (i believe Nova, via Home Switcher). Then reboot my phone in Safe Mode with Nova on, then the reboot of the software starts again.. and it forces itself into Go Launcher Ex without Safe Mode.
Thanks in advance,

Go to recovery and wipe cache and wipe dalvik Cache. If still not working then do Factory Reset. If the problem is still there than flash the rom again.

As my main goal was to get my data from the phone I suprised myself a lot and I'm copying as we speak the whole /emmc/ via SDK tools.
It's gonna take a while - I assume it's copying the whole 16GB.
After that I'll try factory reset's etc. and check if I can use my phone again.

[Q] 10 second lag on lock screen (wake up from sleep)

I hope someone has some experience of this problem, I will do my best to explain in some detail.
It is as out of the box currently running version 4.0.4 firmware.
The history, initially stock firmware version 4.0.3 was running, the USB was a little loose, so I swapped the complete pcb with another S2 I have with a faulty display, to make things a bit more complicated I also put in a 2Gb SD card, when I rebooted the problem appeared, on pressing the power button to wake up, the screen comes on to the lock screen in dimmed mode, and it will stay like it for anything from 5 to 15 seconds, then the screen will go to full brilliance and the screen can be unlocked.
What I have tried, removed and rebooted with sd card removed, swapped back the original USB pcb, and swapped back again as the problem remained, also upgraded to firmware version 4.0.4, that is more or less where I am now, the problem remains.
Have tried researching but unable to find anything relating to this problem, do you have any ideas?
Update:
After further reading, it appears the original firmware may have been customised, because I was not able to get Kies to connect with the device and the CSC was stated as 'unknown', which from what I have read indicates a custom ROM.
Having flashed the stock firmware , on the recovery menu I get still the message #Manual Mode# Appling Multi CSC.... Applied the CSC code: XEU Successfully applied multi CSC, which was also present with original firmware but it never actually applied the code as it stated CSC 'unknown'. but I can now connect with Kies and the CSC code is stated as I9100XEULPA.
Is it normal to get this message at the recovery menu?
Is it a symptom of the same lock screen delay issue?
Solved
I spent 6 weeks trying to fix this, the most aggravating of problems are sometimes very easy to cure when you know the answer!
Disable auto brightness, easy, your long wake up delay has now gone.
Let me know if it helped you.:good:
