Hmm ... really strange.
Maybe a problem with your Google account.
But disappearing system apps ... ?!
If you have got a recent system backup, then recover it.
If not, I recommend to re-install a stock ROM (flashing with Odin).
Do a hard reset after flashing.
Root your phone (e.g. flashing CF-Root kernel).
This should bring back the missing system apps.
Good luck !

Whit a hard reset, you mean a factory reset, right?
And no, no backups
there is no way to reinstall those apps?

Hard reset: Dial *2767*3855# into your phone.
This will wipe internal SD card!
EDIT:
Please do a full system backup in future!
I backup my apps with Titanium Backup (free app from the Market) and make a system backup with CWM Manager app (which is included in my CF-Root kernel).

i'll be sure to do that next time, i wanted to do a Nandroid backup after rooting, but i kept delaying it... until it was too late
i guess i can backup my user apps now with Titanium, or should i just start from blank with a stock rom?
flashing the stock rom will also bring back the stock kernel?

Yes, the ROM contains kernel, modem and CSC.
You can restore all user apps you have saved with Titanium Backup.
Do not restore any system app.
Just to be safe.

a nice twist of things today, i have read some info regarding this issue on the webz and i decided to uninstall facebook and google+... and what do you know, my apps r back and working perfectly
but anyway, i'll proceed with the stock rom flash, just to be on the safe side

Titanium Backup - why not restore data?

I have read that when going to a different rom to do a full wipe.
So clearly if you want to keep your apps you back them up and recover them with titanium backup, but why is it advised to not restore the Data of the apps?
How else would I keep game scores and settings and such?
Thanks
restoring the data for the user apps is fine, don't restore the system data...

that would be a bit of misinformation that gets spread around.....
its fine to restore user apps+data. i have been doing it for a long time with every device i have. swapping between devices and all.
do a batch restore MISSING apps+data
unselect anything that might be blur/sense/touchwiz specific (based on the phone you are using)
run the batch and reboot
verify you are not having any FCs on your apps
if you do a batch restore of just user apps+data (and not the MISSING option) you will get tons of issues.
it is not advised to use Titanium Backup for things like text messages, contacts, phone logs, etc. (while possible it will work just fine, i have seen lots more issues trying to restore those from rom to rom rather than just user apps.)
again. use the MISSING APPS option in the batch restore of Titanium Backup
i have been doing it for over a year on many different devices and i even share my titanium backup folder between different phones, with NO issues at all. and i typically flash several times a week on several different devices.

It is advised to do full wipe, if you install a rom.
And if you want to keep your settings, games scores etc, you use Titanium Backup.
Titanium Backup is your friend in those cases..
What is not adviced, is installing a Rom, without wiping your data.. In that way, you keep for example data of apps and games, of a froyo rom, to a gingerbread rom..
Rom to Rom differs(even in same android version), thats why you full wipe, and then TiBu saves you by restoring them, to the new rom's enviroment..
Edit: Agree with others.. I was typing on atrix, and since i wrote this, they already answered!
Also in atrix, NEVER restore FINGERPRINTS backup..

That explains it. Ive seen MANY posts where users tell other users to restore apps but not restore data but dont specify they mean system data and not app data!
Also, when people talk of a full wipe, do they mean even deleting the contents of the internal storage (like photos and such?)
This would be for going from one ROM to another ROM, both GB
No they are talking about doing a "wipe data/factory reset" in CMW and not physically deleting your internal sdcard. if you delete your sdcard then you will wipe out data that you need including your titanium backups

Thanks ! I always feared that the wipe data/factory reset pretty much deletes all the files on your device like photos and music
The short answer is force closes. Which also can happen from restoring app data, altho it is less likely to happen, it can and it will. But yea def dont restore system data.
Is there any other way of saving game saves?

You can use SyncIt or GameOn, you can even back it up manualy with Root Explorer. You should be fine with TiBU, just if you do get a force close you will know why and what to do (delete data and/or uninstall/reinstall).
I am having an issue restoring my app data from titanium backup. The issue first occurred when i switched from a stock ROM to CM7 ICS ROM. When i restored my missing apps+data all of my app data had disappeared. I just started over and didn't worry about it. Then when i switched from CM7 back to a stock rom I received my old apps+data from before i switched to CM7. I read around on the forums that this might be a compatibility issue. So i started to use the setting in the batch menu "Manipulate data and converted my backups to roll back journal mode which says this works with all roms, and started uploading to Dropbox. I recently just switched my Rom from a stock ROM to CM9 ICS. I lost all of my apps again!! and got back all of the app data from when i was using CM7. Could someone please shed some light on what is going on here cause i have no idea. Please let me know if there is anything i can do to get my app data into CM9 from my last stock rom. The stock rom i was using was an old ROM called wet dream.

The stock rom uses a different back up location than cm roms. You will have to manually go find the data backups in tibu. Don't bother having it auto detect, wont work. For example, all my backups were at mnt/emmc/titaniumbackup instead of the stock roms location of mnt/sdcard/titaniumbackup

Looks like that was the the problem. I saved my backup on drop box so i just dropped what was on dropbox in my titanium folder and restored it. I now have all of my app data back.

[Q] Kies not recognising after MIUI flash

Hi guys,
I'm fairly new to all of this, ive been reading up on flashing and the different roms, rooting android devices etc... i personally still using a symbian i know lol but its all modded and flashed so im not a complete noob...
My girlfriend got a sgs2 few months back, i flashed Lightening for her, she thought it was great with the speed and UI of it all..
Last night i showed what MIUI looks like and so i flashed it for, her spent a while setting it all up, she loved it with the masses of customisations etc...
Now i KNOW kies is an utter piece of crap ave had a numerous problems with it and her phone before but not like this...
Basically after flashing MIUI the phone would just not connect to Kies at all, the only thing it would do was come up as a removable drive of which i could not access half the time (told me the disk was empty) - the phone would only give me the option to mount/unmount the SD card NOT the usual "transfer data to pc" so i did all the usual troubleshooting tasks: reboot phone and pc, reinstall drivers, reinstall kies to no avail.
the ONLY reason i need to reconnect to kies is to get all her contacts msgs gallery etc back
I cleared all data and caches when flashing as i know you should when flashing a new rom.. ive only flashed lightening v5 and v6.1 but had no problems whatsoever and i was wondering if there is a known problem/solution to this?
apologies for the long post just wanted to give as much info as possible also she DOESNT have an sd card as of yet other wise i would have just used a 3rd part backup manager to backup/restore from SD card...
i did wonder (AFTER restoring back to Lightening rom backup) would it be possible to 'advanced restore' JUST the 'data' from the recovery menu whilst runnning the MIUI rom or would that just be a complete mess?
Thanks for any help you guys have would be greatly appreciated
**EDIT** - Sorry if this is in the wrong section i couldnt find anything related or a suitable thread after searching quite a bit
As far as im aware kies only recognise stock firmware. Also you could still use the third party apps and save it to the internal storage of the phone no need for external sd card, as you dont need to wipe internal storage when flashing new ROM.
Did you make a backup of the lightening ROM? If so restore it and backup contacts/messages using a third party app and re-flash then restore.
Ricey
Hey Ricey thanks for the reply mate,
Ahh right ok then, i assumed that it would work with all custom roms as it worked fine with Lightening but now i think i know its because lightening is a stock firmware thats been rooted and had some tweaks whereas MIUI is actually custom.
I wasnt aware that it doesnt wipe internal storage when doing a wipe data+cache, until last night when we noticed that all her photos and apks were still on the phone just not apps lol...
I'm assuming that if i use a 3rd party app to backup contacts and msgs etc they WONT be wiped along with all of the other data for the backup app.
1 last question: any recommendations on a backup program from the market? i keep reading about titanium backup but not sure if this performs the task i want it to.
Thanks
**EDIT** sorry forgot to answer your question - yes i did backup the lightening rom and restored it after spending nearly 2 hours trying to find a solution to this problem
Sms backup+ will backup sms to your gmail account, and restore between roms.
Sync contacts to your google account.

They will still get wiped its just gives you a backup to restore once reflashed. To backup contacts just use the stock contacts app, and export to SD. When re-flashing just import from SD using the same method. As for Messages use sms backup & restore off the market by ritesh sahu. The app is pretty self explanatory.
thanks for your input guys, in the end i just used the MyBackup app from the market and i got it all flashed and working correctly..
Now to get customising

Definitive procedure to move to ICS?

Hello everyone.
I'd like your help to find out (and share) the right sequence of steps to do a clean and safe upgrade to ICS.
I know that the official rom is non wipe, but I reckon that it'd be best to do a factory reset before such a big leap.
I'll do a tentative intro one, and modify it according to your info.
Do a nandroid backup, just to be safe
Export what you might want to keep with kies. As you likely have your multimedia content on the external sd, which won't get touched, this should mostly be the phonebook, the sms messages and call logs
Backup the apps with titanium backup (does this make sense going from gb to ics?)
Go into recovery and do a factory reset and clear cache
Install the ICS rom via Odin
Import the phone book, call logs and sms messages via kies
Restore the apps via titanium backup? (see above)
Thanks everyone!

Yes + Titanium backup

Again yes
Go into recovery and do a factory reset and clear cache
Not required but wont hurt .

Yes
Import the phone book, call logs and sms messages via kies

Yes then test .

So it is correct that I remove the question mark from the following sentence, right?

Also, should I add another point before:
Go into recovery and do a factory reset and clear cache

that would look like: backup your /efs folder using either ADB or Super Manager (suggested by yourself here?)
TiBu hung on some app restores when i went from GB to ICS...
Good steps

[Q] Is there a way to automate the initial setup after updating to a new rom?

Just wondering if the dev's have to manually setup the phone after installing a new Rom that requires a full wipe/restore. It's not a big deal if you update your Rom every so often. But, I would imagine that it would be a pain if your factory resetting daily or multiple times daily.
I don't reset all that often. However, it seems like when I want a new Rom I first need to install a 3rd Rom first before the new Rom will take. Not sure if It's required but I will go through setup and let all of the data restore on the phone. Frequently, I'll need access to the market before I can go on to the next Rom.
After doing this a few times it just seems like there has to be an easier way.

You should just wipe, install the new rom, log into your google account to let your data recover and use the market to reinstall your apps. Not sure why you need to install a rom twice...
I have been using titanium backup for a while now though the developers will not offer support if you do. I only backup apps and their data. The only thing google does is add all my contacts back. I do not backup any system apps or system data and have not had any issues to date. My new Rom is literally back up and running less then 5 minutes after first boot. It takes longer to wipe and flash then it does to setup a Rom.
sent from my Clean Rezound
Dev just push new system apps to the phone with adb or whatever has been changed then reboot. At least I do but for your case when switching to a new Rom you shouldn't just be pushing system cus alot changes

So can I use a titanium backup to restore app data after flashing to a new rom? Would it restore my saved saved logins from the browser?

Not sure about the browser, but yes restoring app data with Titanium backup works great. Just don't restore system apps . Well, I am assuming if you deleted the new browser and restore your saved browser it would work just fine. Unless the browser is a different for the rom your using.

update 4.4.2 to 6.1

I haven't updated my phone in a while. I don't get the over the air updates anymore. I saw the new update and thought it was time.. My phone is rooted and I'm running G900tuvu1ane6 and want to update to 6.1 and then root the phone again. Can you let me know if I can do a straight update without messing anything up or do I need to do an incremental update? Also, what is the best way to root the new version. Are there any issues with mm that I should be aware of. Thanks in advance.

No. You can go straight to 6.0.x
Flash twrp flash supersu
Not really. There's been a crap load fixed/improved since KitKat tho lol
Hi!
Yes, you can
You can by using ODIN
Go to sammobile to download the last MM version
Download ODIN (sammobile has a link to ODIN)
The phone will be swiped. You'll lost all data
Fisrt boot can take 8 minutes or more
The root again
So I'm running a backup now with twrp. If my phone gets wiped with this update, what is the best way to save and restore settings like app data and personal info. I think twrp is just for a full backup and restore correct?

You can restore just data with twrp but honestly I highly suggest just starting fresh especially going from KitKat to marshmallow. So much has changed betwen the 2 from dalvik to art, file structure, etc etc. Back up your contacts and just restore them. Download all your apps back log in etc etc. Take you 10 minutes longer and starting completely fresh and clean.

I'm agree
There are a lot of changes from KK to MM.
you can use google backup and restore mechanism to restore some kind of configuration: when you are running first wizard google ask: "restore from previous phone"?
This restores desktop confiig and install your apps you installed from play store
Whatsapp restore automatically from last backup
Call log and SMS can be backup and restore with "SMS backup and restore"

Helloooo
I have a galaxy s5 900T, but I am in Europe and I have problems with the mobile network.
Individual network frequencies are unavailable, so I do not have 3G and 4G networks in some places.
I'm thinking to install software from Europe version of s5 900f on my s5 909T but I am not sure is that possible.
Can someone explain to me whether it is possible or why not. For example, CyanogenMod is the same ROM for both models (900F and 900T, and mire else s5 with Qualcomm procesor.
