music static when screen turns off cm7 - TouchPad General

Ok loving having android on this thing one bug I have on mine is when I'm playing any sort of music be it pandora g-music or on board files, as soon as the screen shuts off it gets static sounding and choppy with weird clicks, was wondering if others have this same issue

yep i noticed the same

Same here. It's not awful but annoying enough!

I get the same problem but only on webos . Have to full reboot to resolve. Not sure if this is a 3.04 bug, cause this never happened to me on 3.02 . Anyone else still seeing this issue?

Have not booted into webos since I have ported android on this thing, weird tho tthat your getting this issue in webos, maybe its a hardware issue

Same problem here. I find most instances after turning the screen back on a few times the static seems to stop.

i have the same issue but only when running cm7. my webos works perfectly. most times if i am gonne be running music i just switch over to webos.

This seems to happen when the volume hits a certain point on the higher end. If you volume down a little bit, it goes away.

In my case, it was DSP Manager. I had enabled eq and bass boost which was causing the crackling and choppy sounds. I disabled eq and bass boost on speaker, headset and bluetooth and perfect sound now.
I'm running 2.1 alpha and WebOS was 3.04.

I had the same issue and changing the CPU profile in CM settings sorted it.
SETTINGS/CM SETTINGS/PERFORMANCE/CPU settings; Ondemantcl works for me.

[Q] TnT Lite v2.2.0 - Random popping sound from speakers

Every once in a while, a short squelch/static sound is produced from the speakers; it happens randomly while I'm on the homescreen or in xScope. Has anyone else experienced this? I wonder if it's just me or whether this is normal; perhaps I need to reflash the ROM.
I have had it happen occasionally with all the different Roms. Kind of a pop sound..
ive also had this happen a few times a loud pop
Mine does it too. It will eventually get ironed out.
My gtablet is showing this issue using the stock rom and latest update. I was woundering if this is a hardware issue. When this happens all audio seems to stop working. A reboot seems to fix it so that makes me think the hardware is fine. Also I do not see anything when looking at the log cat. Anyone have any ideas?
Never had this issue, and I'm a stickler for audio.
Happens to me every timewithin first 5 minutes of boot, then only if I have to manually reconnect WiFi (which I have not have to do from Lite-3.0 and later) since the Tab was stock out of the box.
However doesn't happen on my (well, the wife's) Tab at all running 3.0.
I take it as a hardware non-issue.

I'm having this issue too.
A reboot fixes it, and it only seems to happen after the tablet's been brought out of sleep--and not every time. I will get a burst of static--sounds like white noise--anytime there is supposed to be a sound, including playing music, the background of Angry Birds, or even the new mail notification or the little click from Thumb Keyboard.
I'm running TNTlite 3.1.2, along with the patch for the lag issue. It didn't happen for me when I was running 2.4.
Popping noise
Hi....I have the same problem with my GalaxyTab. I have noticed that the popping sound occurs usually when the Tab is not secure. What I mean is....when the Tab is tightly secured in my jacket or coat pocket, the noise doesn't happen. But when my jacket or coat is unzipped and there's plenty of swing room as I'm walking, it happens more frequently. Also, when I take a big step or the Tab jets bumped in any way...the noise also happens. Sometimes it's very loud and actually hurts my ear. It only happens on my left ear plug. Any fixes?
Just wanted to give this a little bump.
My G-Tablet (VegAn-TAB 5.11 Beta) sometimes (while the screen is off) will just start hissing. It sounds like white noise or old tv static. Only for a couple of seconds. It sometimes does this while opening applications with background music. I think this may be connected to a global audio issue where the internal speaker is disabled after connecting and disconnecting bluetooth headphones. Sometimes the audio just quits all together, after playing music or internet content. The volume tab shows the volume is up, but no audio comes out. A reboot fixes this.
Just some very strange happenings and I wanted to get some updates from people. It sounds like a systemic issue as many others have reported this, too.
This issue drives me crazy
Having the same issue, running Vegan with Clemsyn's kernal v9. I get the occasional full-volume white noise hiss (kinda embarassing to experience at work), and also the occasional pop and static-y audio. Has anyone been able to successfully (permanently) resolve it?

Also have the same problem. I haven't found a resolution yet. Same problem with Cyanogenmod 7

[Q] Audio issues? Anyone else?

Just wanted to know if anyone else have audio issues. I'll explain.
When I leave my tablet to sleep some minutes, or a while, or some hours, sometimes after resuming it, it will not have sound anymore. And actually, any attempt of playing sounds (for example...the keyboard "tick" sound..) will make my tablet to play "SHSHSHHSHSHSHSHSH" (noise..) for about 4 or 5 seconds. This will repeat everytime I try to play something. The fix is to reboot, but its kinda depressing showing off the tablet and it fails like that D: LOL
Thanks!
last bump? Anyone?
I have not - it could be a hardware defect. Have you tried it in stock (or are you in stock right now?)
A few users have mentioned audio static at times, but I have never had this issue.
Never any problems since buying the tablet in late November. I would exchange the unit wherever you bought it.

That's exactly what mine is doing. After the reboot, it's fine...makes me think it's not hardware. I'm running TNTlite 3.1.2. Didn't have it in 2.4. What are you running? Also running the lag patch.
This actually just happened to me yesterday -- the "SHSHSHSHSHSHS" static playing quite loud. I muted all sound (i.e. Silent Mode) and it stopped -- but when I re-enabled sound and started an app with music, it returned.
BTW: I am running Vegan Beta 4...
Rebooted and it has gone away (for now) -- but I notice something strange now...
Perhaps someone else can reproduce this:
1) Put tablet in Silent mode (from settings, not via Volume rocker)
2) No sounds should be heard when clicking any apps in drawer, home button, etc.
3) Re-enable sound from Sound settings (Turn OFF Silent mode)
4) Using the volume rocker, turn the volume all the way down until it is supposed to be "OFF" (Media Volume Speaker is grey and has an "X" beside it)
5) Click on any apps in drawer, you should hear a very faint "click" when you select that shouldn't be there normally
Interestingly, it also happens for some touches of the capacitive "hard" buttons -- mainly Menu and Back since almost all apps have those options. "Home" and "Search" do not seem to trigger sounds...
A strange glitch to be sure but one I can live with (it's Beta software after all) -- wondering if anyone else has this as well?
**UPDATE: Weird...While the above problem still exists, I noticed that sound seems to play properly (i.e. without static, noise, etc) when you go into the Sound settings menu, select Volume, and turn OFF the "Use incoming call volume for notifications" -- which gives you an extra slider to set. After setting that slider to any value, the problem hasn't reappeared and sound seems clean (so far)
Perhaps not having the "phone" functions in the tablet borked the setting? Nothing to read from? And force assigning a value helps?
It happened to me for the first time yesterday watching videos on CNN. I believe it was the video about Brett Farve getting fined for not cooperating with the NFL. I stopped the video and started again, and it was fine from that point on.
Same here on zpad ...except no shhhh sound or whatever just silence when trying to play music....so annoying
actually even a reboot isn't fixing it now...still no sound at all
well im glad im not alone, i dont think its a hardware issue

Fwiw i flashed vegans latest build and probem is fixed for now...zpad ws causijg me all kinds of hell....but i liked it best
FYI: The "Shshshshshsh" came back on my GTablet last night and it was LOUD...
Had to reboot to get it to clear...muting sound didn't seem to work to stop it...
Will be flashing Vegan Beta 5.1 so hopefully it will go away with a Wipe...
Same problem here too... even happened in VEGAN 5.1 last night so I flashed to TNT Lite 4.0 and it happened there as well.
This happens when I use Fring. I get an extremely loud noise from connection till close. Since we are discussing sound issues, I'm not getting any sound from my avi files. It shows beautifully but no sound. I tried many players but no success. Anyone experience this?
Scott
I only get sound from ac3 encoded avi files when using rockplayer software decoding.
I get a constant low static noise thru headphones. Also a pop sound every now and then.
Sent from my GTablet-TnT-Lite using Tapatalk
I occasionally get a nonstop static SHHHHHH that is only corrected by rebooting. Had it with every version of TnTlite, never happened when I had vegan
So hardware or software problem? Is anyone for sure yet?
now mine is doing something else strange....media volume, when hitting hte rocker is stuck on silent....when I go into sounds, make sure silent is off....and increase media volume under volume....then hit ok...I go back into volume and it has reverted back to 0%....can't figure it out...
vegan 5.1 with cleymson kernel
Same issue here. I have actually had it happen while using it from a fresh boot...no sleep

[Q] Rear Speaker Intermittently Stops Working

Hello, I am a new user here.
I have a strange problem with my Bolt where at times the rear speaker plays all streams (alarm, notification, ringtone, media, etc.) so quietly that I have to put my ear directly next to the speaker to hear anything. At random times the speaker decides to play at normal volume again. I do not really hear a crackling sound so it seems the speaker is not blown.
The issue occurred when I was using SynergyROM for Thunderbolt r264, but the issue still occurs when I do a nandroid restore to a ROM I flashed previously when the problem did not occur. I am now using CyanogenMod 7.1.1 for Thunderbolt and yes, I am rooted.
The headphone jack works fine, so I'm guessing it has nothing to do with the system volume control. However, the problem sometimes occurs as soon as I plug in my headphones and then unplug them.
Does anyone know what I can do besides taking my phone to Verizon (my carrier) or a phone repair shop to fix this?
I have this same problem. I would also like to know what the cause is. It is very annoying because most of the time, I cannot hear my phone ring.
I think this may have something to do with the system thinking that headphones are still plugged in. I am running a Theoryrom based off of CM7 and if I go into the CyanogenMod settings in the sound menu and check the boxes for notifications, ring tones, and alarms to always play on speaker, all of a sudden the speaker volume seems to have improved. Something you may try. If it happens again on mine (which it will) I will see if I can figure out what the problem is.
Nevermind, it went back to being quiet, and that doesn't seem to fix it. Must have been a fluke.
It seems like there is no indication of when it will happen. Is it a hardware issue or an issue with the Android system and plugging in a headset?
My initial guess would be that it is a hardware issue. I have tried flashing new and different ROMs ranging from Sense base DasBAMF roms to AOSP based liquid roms and the problem persists even after a flash, which to me would indicate that it is not an issue with the Android system.
The last time it came and went for me had nothing to do with plugging or unplgging a headset. I have no idea what is going on.
Ok, so my speaker came back this morning, and I did notice one potentially related thing when it happened. Just before it came back, the DSPManager application force closed. I wonder if something is wonky with that program. If you are still having issues, could you try to force close, uninstall, or freeze (using Titanium) the DSPManager application to see if your speaker volume comes back?
Update: Nope, not it. Must be hardware.
The strange part about this problem is that nothing wrong seems to be happening with the software when the sound comes back on. Also, I have to play music constantly in order for the sound to come back on. It doesn't seem like the speaker is blown out... there is no crackling sound. The sound is just really really quiet.
Alright, I finally decided to replace the speaker unit inside my phone because it would no longer go back to the original volume. It seems my hunch was right. The new speaker is working perfectly now.

[Q] Neutrino v2.0 and above audio skipping

Has anyone else experience the same problem where their music would not play smoothly anymore Neutrino v2.0 and v2.1(p)? My music played just fine on v1.4.
I'm using powerAMP and I've already tried increasing the audio buffer and the audio thread priority and neither is fixing the problem. This happens both from the speaker and through the headphone.
I saw a post about this in the main dev thread no one else seemed to have followed up on it =(.

I think it has something to do with the 'Media step' mod, which I deleted from V2.0 onwards so it shouldn't be a problem...
Can you describe in more detail what happens?
The phone runs very smooth in all other aspects, but the audio would hiccup...as if I was listening to CDs that were scratched.
I have had the same experience. I have tried different music programs so it's not app-specific. I've also flashed a different kernel to see if that could be the problem.
I have noticed I do not get the same bugs as on different cm7 ROMs where the speaker wouldn't work at all after unplugging from the car dock so the trade-off's been worth it.
I only experiance this when the phone switches from 3g to H. And the slipping becomes extremely bad when I lose service for a bit. If I go to networks and select 2g only, it seems to somewhat fix it. Until I drop service. Used several different radios with the same result
I'm going a hunch that the tweak to the windowsmgr.max_events_per_sec in the build.prop is somehow interfering - I've edited mine from 150 to 50 and I think it sounds smoother on the speaker but that could just be deceiving. I'll update after I've used it in the car dock on my way home.
-Update-
To I'm sure no one's surprise, this did not work. Music still pops. Maybe once or twice every thirty seconds.
I just tried playing music in airplane mode and the music doesn't skip either with Wi-fi on or off.
Is this problem only with PowerAmp? Does it work fine with other music players?

Every music player. Stock, double twist, poweramp etc. I have tried them all.
Confirmed for me with every music player, not just with powerAMP.
TTT Any fix yet?
I've been looking into this over the weekend. It happens on all media players I've tested:
DoubleTwist
WinAmp
PowerAMP
Stock
Sometimes it is so subtle that you wouldn't noticed if you didn't literally have every nuance of a song memorized. I took logcat logs and marked every "skip" I heard, while playing video games with my headphones on for a few hours this weekend, but nothing stuck out of the logs.
This issue is not in 1.4S, but was in 2.0, 2.1, and still in 2.1P. Sorry I don't have any other useful info.
DK
Will yours skip if in airplane mode? Mine doesn't.
mine actually skips in airplane mode aswell, but rarely...
See if it skips in V2.2...
Bad news...the audio still skips. I'm seeing that it happens often especially when there are changes in reception, like when it's switching between h+ and 3g...
I can happily confirm that setting SeCPU profiles to sleep at max and min @ 456mhz fixes the skipping.
Hmmm, I thought that would hinder the battery saving effects of clocking down. I've been clocking the CPU down to around 216-312 Mhz when my phone is idled.
Usually I'm playing audio on the phone when I'm driving and I have the phone plugged in to the car charger, I'll try to increase the min clock for when the phone is charging and report back.
I don't know if it's worth mentioning again, but with the same setting I have now in V1.4, the audio doesn't skip at all. I'll also test if this is happening with weekly #6 as well.
I realize this is a bit off topic, but seeing as how my issue is audio related I figured I'd give it a shot.
In short, my internal speaker is going in and out. There's no specific instances I'm seeing, but I can say I notice it most when it goes out during a phone call. A couple of times I've noticed a bit of a raspy sound, kind of like a loose speaker wire or skipping cd would make (which leads me to think it's the speaker itself).
That being said, if anyone else is having this issue I'd like to help out as best I can.
I'm on 2.2, btw. Currently running 100% EE, with the CM7 provided Google Apps.
Thanks for the help, and sorry for the intrusion.

[Q] Voodoo Sound loses custom settings while playing music

Hey Guys,
I have a GT-P7510 running CM9 with Pershoot's 2.6.36.4 cyanogenmod+root kernel
I use Spotify and PlayerPro to play my music.
I have noticed Voodoo Sound has been acting rather strange.
I've noticed on my Vibrant that Voodoo Sound once started after boot and set, will keep its volume until reboot without fail, provided the proper settings. but for some reason on the tablet it is unable to do that. Spotify suffers the most from this, after almost every song it decides to drop back down to -10db from +2db where I have it set for lineout in my car. If I open Voodoo Sound up after the volume drops, it will jump back up either immediately, or after I press on 'Headphone amplifier' when the bar comes up, it resets the volume back to +2db for the duration of that song. With my Vibrant, that behavior does not seem to exist. I've been trying to figure out what could be causing it.
My guesses are:
Spotify is messing with the settings between each song
CM9 Memory Management doesn't keep Voodoo Sound running as a service
Android Gremlins
Anybody else notice this behavior? If so, have any suggestions to resolve it, or to resolve my suspected reasons?
Thanks!
-Rob
I've been having the same issues aswell, I reported this issue already to curio but then again has unticking the box for safe level audio made a difference?
yeah, jack safety is off. I fiddled with it again last night. There is a good chance we will have to talk to notify about it. I have been noticing that their software is very buggy on this platform.
Rumor has it Samsung and CM are collaborating, which might give us the extra leverage needed to have them fix these bugs, of these are their bugs.

I had a bit of a breakthrough. I was researching spotify and volume related issues. I came across people complaining about how spotify handles sound, which is a bit like what Skype does to media during an incoming call, as well as some people's dislike for it. A little more digging came across this thread on xda. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803432 a chap with windows mobile had that problem and follow the m.spotify.com link, download for android 1.6+ install it (3rd party install apks enabled) this one. Once done confirm the following voodoo sound settings.
Smart amplifier
Don't interrupt music
Restore at launch
Load up spotify
Drop the volume until analog volume drops
Raise it back up again.
It held it for at least 3 songs while spotify holds focus. If you leave focus it will drop at the end of the song.
Beats having to turn the gain on the car up dangerously high and having alternator noise bleed in. Also beats resetting the volume after each song.
Fortunately with smart amplifier running you can just drop the volume a couple of times and raise it again for it to hit +2db again rather than diving through menus. And I was wrong, it defaults to -4db after each song.
Oh well its a lazy but annoying work around for now.

Hey Guys,
I have a little bit of an update,
The new preview release of spotify doesn't seem to be as heavily effected as the current market release, so if you use spotify and this is driving you crazy. Google their latest beta preview, should be easy to find. Perks of the new version, faster, less retarded navigation, full ics support, 320kbps, and just straight up better [=
Only draw backs atm is it is portrait mode only and occasionally drops the voodoo sound volume.
