Vote and make your Tablet S the Winner - Sony Tablet S

Hey Guys,
The Sony Tablet S has made it to the finals of the Tablet World Series Championship Game on LaptopMag. It beat out rival tablets like Ipad 2, Galaxy Tab 10.1, kindle fire and many others. Now its in the final match against the Thinkpad Tablet. So far Tablet S is leading but your votes still count as we still have 2 days to go until the voting closes.
So please go HERE and vote for the Tablet S.
Really surprised at how popular the Tablet S has become beating even the Ipad 2

Well S tab didnt face Ipad 2 the ASUS did and that was probably a show of force by android users vs apple

Poor multi-tasking. Music lags when browsing the internet and occasionally when reading magazines.
Also it happens to me once that when the battery is very low the screen won't turn on. I charged it and the screen still does not respond. It wasn't turned off as the lock screen sound was still playing. I had to poke a needle to the reset button to fix it.

Thanks for this link, voted Sony Tablet S! Much better than the galaxy tab...touchwiz just isn't for me...best tablet out there...hope it beats the kindle fire...
Bump for round 2 of voting.
Done, but the kindle fire is somehow 30 votes ahead!
Hmm, why bother comparing 2 tablets if one of em isnt even released yet? No one knows what bugs the Kindle fire might have. And if it'll be as good as they say. None the less the kindle is and always will be an ebook reader to me (not that there's somethin wrong with that) now with a colored display and a few extras. And I'm sorry but 7" is just too small for a tablet imho.
Vote for our Tablet S!
The features I saw for the kindle fire are nice, but until it's released we don't k ow the pros and cons of this device.
Don't know how can they put a device and compare it with others if it's not released yet?
They described the tablet S as laggy, how can they make sure the kindle fire isn't laggy as well when using it and after I installing many apps?
Anyway, voted

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 vs Asus Transformer Prime

Hi guys, i bought a 32 gb tab 10.1 about a month ago for $650, today im being offered $500 for it, and the transformer prime is 499... should i sell it? and pre-order the prime?
I know the prime hasn't been released yet, but do you guys think i should sell and get that, for essentially the same price? are the specs on the prime worth it? or should i wait it out with the tab 10.1 till next year for something better?
HELP!!
Heck yeah. Do it before our tab is worth a lot less. I like Samsung and would like to stick with them but the transformer prime is one heck of a tablet. Even right now you could probably only sell yours for 450$ or so on eBay minus all the fees.
I would just have a hard time being without a tablet for very long...
I would personally wait for reviews and user feedback after the tablet gets released. It would be a long shot if you sold it and waited for more quad-core tablets to come out later.
I would wait... Especially it being the first quad core tablet... I'm sure Sammy will be coming out with theirs pretty soon and it'll blow Asus out of the water. Plus there will be things that Asus misses and other manufactures will throw on their own devices.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
...after bad experiences with crappy hardware from other manufacturers, I think I'd wait for at least a gen2 device before buying anything these days.
*fluff fluff fluffly post, 8 more to go*
I am glad I am not the only one trying to fly through 10 posts.
Yep - I am waiting on the second round of Kal-el tablets before jumping on the bandwagon. I love my Tab so far and it fills all the needs I currently have.
I'd wait for Sammy to bring out their next generation tablets as well. Asus is a Chinese/Taiwanese company = can't trust their manufacturing, although Asus is known to be highly reliable in the laptop market.

Every other second-gen tablet announced has 2GB of RAM and a higher res display (1920 x 1152) which is going to become the new standard for high-end tablets. Also Nvidia sucked comparitively in dual-core so unless something's changed quad-core chips already announced from Qualcomm and TI will probably be faster/better. You may lose a little on your Tab by waiting a couple of months but in the long run you'll probably be better off. All the buzz about the Prime is just because it's first out. I think a lot of people buying it will regret it in the long run.
Am currently tossing between getting a tab now or wait for Asus prime. Spec looks awesome but not so sure about its quality and devs..

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 or transformer prime ?

what should I buy and there is a big jump in performance??
I recommend you to wait for some time untill other tablets quad core processors are released and their comparison . asus tablets have allot of porblems in rooting and hardware defects also the prime may have quad core but i can't gurantee its quality , so wait
If you can wait, then wait. I've heard bad things about ASUS but I'm not a pro.
I have the Asus Transformer and have to admit it is better then the SGT 10.1, but I will let you make your own opinion. It has the micro sd card slot which makes rooting and custom rom installation much easier. Asus are know for their motherboard after all Asus is a computer company. I personally will be getting one when it comes out. Go to the Asus TF forum and check it out
I'm not sure is Asus has cleaned up their act but I went through 5 or so Transformers when they first came out and everyone of them ended up with light bleeding on the screen.
I'm on my one and only Galaxy Tab 10.1 and I haven't had a single problem. Throw Task650's latest ROM on a Galaxy Tab and you will be taken care of.
Not to mention I'm sure there are plenty of Ice Cream Sandwich builds being worked on.
I'm not sold on the quad-core yet. The iPad runs smoothly on less HW than the GT. I think Android will get there.
I used to have TF but i switched to GT, and have not been disappointed, i think GT is much better, but maybe you should hit a store and try them both out. Just remember that TF prime dosent have 3G.
yes asus transformer have problems root with last hw version
i will suggest wait for samsung's 2nd gen tablets with tegra 3.. i m playing with my 10.1 now while waiting for that..
I'd suggest that you WAIT! don't jump the gun on an extremely NEW Tech, give it some time to settle, and to see if its actually Ok!
Just an advice!
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
My first tablet was the transformer TF101 but it suffered with build quality issues, so replaced it for a Galaxy Tab and haven't looked back.
I'm interested to see how the Prime performs but am suspicious of battery claims. I wouldn't buy unless the price was £349 or under and that goes for all android tablets - they are too expensive (but did pay £399 for SGT )
same here. i went through 4 faulty tf's. one was separating at the lower left corner after week, the second had tons of bleed, the third had bleed and started separating at the upper right corner, and the last one had bad bleed.
all 4 had the speaker balance issue too.
i like the new prime on paper, but asus left a bad taste with my first tablet with them.
I've had both and like the Galaxy Tab better. Had quality control issues with the Transformer and had to pay freaking shipping on a screen issue which was clearly not my fault to get it replaced. I'm now very skeptical on any tablets Asus releases from now on.
ordered one, tomorrow I will receive it
it will be my first android tab ,I wish there will be no issue
thanks

You see! ASUS will remain ASUS, they for sure has some stretch and their own innovations, but they actually keep forgetting a bit 'bout Quality Control, this might change in the near future, but till then, the Hardware just does not look as clean and QC'ed when compared to SGT 10.1 - at least - .
Then again, Who ever have guessed 8 years ago that SAMSUNG will be as it is today? it was literally a cheap brand like ... / ... / ... but look at it today, Big boys back then were Sony, Panasonic, JVC, Toshiba, etc.
OOpppps, almost forgot HP iPAQ (1999)! with Windows Pocket PC 2000 or was it 1999? I remember later that I upgraded it to Pocket PC 2002.
We are now going through a high-pace-technologies Race, never seen before, that's how I see it, and that's how I feel bout it too. We Win!
Not sure about everyone else but I'm into the do not jump onto the extremely new tech if you're just to enjoy the Tablet experience.
Will be getting my GT soon. Was considering TF Prime but now going against it due to the support an obvious quality issues that comes with it as GT is probably more "seasoned" by now with enough supporting ROMs
I had a ASUS Transformer, keyboard and all and I sold it for the Galaxy Tab. I'm liking the G Tab a lot more. However, I do miss the micro sd card slot I had on my Transformer. Easy upgrade to 48gigs of storage.
But if you're looking to just buy one now, I agree with a few other people in the thread. Hold off. There is a beautiful horizon of Terga 3 that looks mystical.
i was thinking of getting the prime due known reasons then learned it will not have 3g for another 5-6 months. i just said eeeh get the samsung and change it when prime 3g comes out. god knows what will be released from samsung when 3g prime comes out

wow, forgot about those. my first ppc was casio caiopeia(sp?). after that i got a toshiba something with some kind of 800mHz processor and a full color screen! and to think those cost just as much as tablets today!
i'm so tempted to get a prime just, but i think i'll wait a month or two for the initial tally on qc. plus that'll give time for the second batch to come out. last year i had to place orders with 3 companies to make sure i got 1 tf because of the demand.
if going by tegra 2 build quality among the makers, i do think i'll wait for a samsung also.
I won't bash Asus, from the reviews I've seen the Prime looks sweet, that screen sounds amazing.. BUT... at least one reviewer talked about a flaw that was also present on the Transformer.. the edges of the Prime are not smooth & gently curved like the Galaxy Tab & it isn't as comfortable in the hands.
I loved my Transformer, till I started using it to read in bed & it was practically cutting into my hands.. for $500 I want a device I can hold for a couple hours while I'm reading. I'll probably still get one but I'm in no rush to pre-order. I'm actually really happy with the GTab, it suits my needs quite nicely.

Time to "Downgrade" to TF101?

I've had my Prime for about 4 weeks, Friday is the day I need to return to Amazon, unless I can get an extension from Amazon. EDIT: Just talked with Amazon, they won't extend my return period. (My Prime was as Asus for a week, but they just tested it. And I was hoping for a fix for WiFi before I had to return it.)
My WiFi throughput is weak on the Prime. Both Samsung Galaxy 10.1 and HTC Flyer have better WiFi, the Galaxy 10.1 is by far better.
I don't play games, and was thinking of returning the Prime and getting something the performs better on WiFi, perhaps the original Transformer, TF101.
I thought I would post here, since many of you have experience with both the TF101 and TF201, and see what you might suggest.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
Why go back to an older model?
Though I suffer a random reboot maybe once a day, I plan to keep my prime to see what the Asus team says.
However, I do plan on buying my wife *cough* more for me prob *cough* the Toshiba Excite X10 when that comes out later in the month. That one looks real interesting as well IMO.
Prime or nothing.
I would not buy another Tegra 2 today. Prime is much better.

No games out there are dedicated to the Prime, most of them will run on Tegra 2 based tabs. By the time the new games come out, they will probably be optimized for HD 1080 or 720p screens and quadcores which means Prime owners have to wait for the rest of the Android market to catch up.

That is COMPLETELY wrong. Completely. There are Tegra 3 optimized games.
First of all there is Glowball, something NO Tegra 2 tablet can run.
Secondly, when you play games like Shawdowrun HD, Riptide, and Shinerunner the quality of graphics is improved on Tegra 3 devices.
Even better, in the Tegra Zone there is a pile of stereoscopic 3D games that will play in 3D on a 3D TV if you hook up your Prime. Just last night I was playing Riptide in 3D on my Samsung 3D plasma, something NO Tegra 2 device can do.

Bull. The Tegra 2 sucks. Outright sucks.
First of all, the GPU is too weak for the resolution of Android tablets. Even with Tegra 2 games the Prime plays the games MUCH smoother. Tegra 2's GPU was meant for WVGA resolutions not 720p+. The Tegra 2 is SPANKED by not only the Tegra 3 but also the Mali in the SGS2 and the iPad 2' GPU.
Simply put, if you want smooth gameplay, Tegra 2 is simply not a good option.
Then there are the other problems with Tegra 2- NO high profile h264 support (so FORGET playing mkvs in hardware mode), NO NEON support (when MANY apps optimize for NEON because quite simply every other major SoC- including Tegra 3- has NEON support), and a lower per-core clockspeed.
I can understand someone not wanting the Prime because of issues, but lets not pretend the original is something it is not.
Buying a TF101 today is like buying a freaking brand new Pentium D desktop- it was fine in its day but nowadays the alternatives are MAGNITUDES faster. In particular, the Prime is at least three times faster than the TF101.
The better solution is to wait for other Tegra 3 tablets. Pretending Tegra 2 is still a good value in 2012 doesn't help anyone. There is a reason Tegra 2 ended up being the low-end of the last generation of dual-core SoCs.

If anyone feels so strongly that they should get an original Transformer, then I'm ready to sell mine (along with its dock). It's in good shape and works fine (for a Tegra 2-based tablet). Personally, I much prefer using my Prime, and so if you're set on buying an OG Transformer and want to save a few bucks, then PM me and let me know how much you're willing to pay for the privilege.

Nice infomercial.
If people are looking for alternates or something to hold them over until something different comes out there are two deals going on now...
1) Staples is discontinuing the OG Zoom and selling them for $249. Accessories are 75% off too. It has ICS. It's only available in store and they're hard to find.
2) Costco has the 16GB G-Tab w/rebate in-store only for $389. That includes the OEM Samsung case.

The Prime is WAY better for video decoding as it supports NEON instructions
I like my prime a lot better then my tf101... Like pretty much every new android device I have ever had phones including the first 3 to 8 months of its life is buggy until the developers work it all out, they are slow. The original tf101 was also plagued with issues when it first released and honestly still has some. I sold mine to a friend for 200 a couple weeks ago. It should be getting ICS this month so it should get better...should...
But even my phones that are android based have all had their problems. The best ones are the ones that got a good open source developer making custom roms that work great. I am running a vibrant and a mytouch with custom roms and they are awesome. I cant wait till Asus releases the bootloader unlocked.
There is sooo much you can do with software man. I'm amazed how good the prime runs right now. Its the first tegra3 quad core device (drivers will get much better) and its one of the first ICS devices, which also isnt perfect yet. The bootloader will be unlocked soon...
Yes the aluminum case isnt optimal for radio signals. But in my case all radio related stuff works just fine (even GPS when i'm outside - i get a fix in under 1min). What i want to say there are some hardware limitations but overall i'm sure in 6months EVERY aspect of the Prime will be much improved.
I witnessed that on my past 2 phones. You should compare my DHD from when I first bought it with stock&branded Froyo/Sense 2.0 firmware, to now with a Custom rom and Gingerbread 2.3.5/Sense 3.5. Its like a completely new phone. Battery life is almost doubled for example.
But the OP is right. If you want a device with good software you should not buy a completely new device. But does that justify buying an older phone/tablet? For me i dont think so. I think its much better to look for popular devices that will likely have a big community and many devs. And of course are unlockable. Thats why i know the Prime is an awesome device. I'm sure devs will do great things with it

Hey, yo, why you have to take a shot at my Eagles in a thread about a tablet??

[Q] Recommend a new 10" Android

My venerable Viewsonic gTablet is beginning to misbehave, holding the case in certain places causes video to turn green, the power supply socket died about a year ago, consequently I think I will be looking at a new 10" (or thereabouts) android tab in the next couple of months. I use it mainly for reading and browsing the web, occasionally for music and for file transfer via FTP and SMB. What would you recommend in terms of price, performance, hackability.
Nexus 10
Little expensive, but I think its worth it! Also has the hackability!
---------- Post added at 04:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:00 PM ----------
I currently own an iPad 2, which is apple, I know, but its also a very reliable tablet that will always do the job!
Nexus 10 all the way.
Unless you don't mind 7 inch Nexus 7 which is also good for reading watching movies + its ALOT MORE portable. =)
yep, I've been looking at those but the 10 is a little pricey, I have access to a nook color, but the screen is just too small for my failing eyesight (I like to read a full page of a book rather than a quarter of one at a time!). I guess I may have to save some pennies over the next few months.
I notice no comments on the Fire HD, is it easily rooted?
