Need Help :( user error!! - HTC EVO 3D

I was going to flash a ROM so I went into TWRP and wiped everything. Then I noticed I needed to update my radio. while still in recovery I I turned on usb toggle mode and sent the radio to my sd card. I rebooted into recover and it asked me to update my PG86IMG file so I said yes. I then had to press power to reboot, only problem is I have no ROM to boot to. and when I remove batter to get into recovery it's asking me if I want to update again. I hit no and the only other option I have is to hit power to reboot, but again there's nothing to boot to. My phone is stuck on splash screen.
How can I fix this?

Isnt there a IMG file that will put you back to stock ROM, recov and everything? I'd look for it in development.

but how would this work? I can't do anything but remove battery then go into recovery but when I go into recovery it's asking me to update my IMG file. I hit no, but there's no option to go back into recovery. the only option I have is to hit power to reboot which leaves me stuck on splash screen. How would I get any file on my phone?

Through the bootloader, you may need to use a card reader if one is available. That's probably the only way to get the img file onto your card at the moment.

Yeah... This happened to me once, I just took the SD out of my phone put it in an adapter and deleted the file using my pc.
Edit. The big guy on top of me already said that.....that doesn't sound right.. lol

You will need to use a SD reader like ^^^ said. Once you get it off, put a rom on there at the same time and flash.
This is why nandroids are a life saver. You can call me sissy all you want, I like to have my ducks in a row just in case.

Help!!!! Stuck in hboot!! Can't get back to restore
Every time I try to hold the volume button down and press the power button, it keeps wanting to reinstall PG05IMG even though I have installed it. It wont load to the bootloader or anything but reboot which is locked at HTC. It IS something I tried to load but I normally can get back to restore my phone back to wherever I want to restore but I'm locked on HTC.
Is there any way to get past the HBOOT?? It just keeps going back to the PG05IMG (2.5)
I tried to load a blue package

You'll want to remove your SD Card and throw it in another phone or card reader, then remove the PG05IMG.zip. You should be able to get back into Recovery from there.
Prepare to be flamed either way for not posting this in the proper forum.

Remove SD card and use either card reader or older phone and remove the pg05img file from it. Then you an get into recovery via hboot
take the sd card out, load it on your computer and delete the file..then re-install the sd card and boot into Hboot... it will now let you into recovery
you guys beat me to it lol.

Do you have another smartphone handy? If so throw your SD card in it and delete the PG05IMG file off of it then reinstall to your phone...
Edit. Damn I'm slow.

You can take sdcard out, boot phone to hboot with battery in and plugged into charger. Once in hboot, remove battery, put in sdcard, put battery in, select recovery. I have used this trick, works, phone stays on without battery with charger pluged in. Probably dont have to replace battery, I did though.
Go with the 6 exact same solutions listed above! Make sure you wear a flame retardent suit though!
I can understand the panic. Probably could have searched it though

Uh..... Should he remove the SDcard, put it in another phone or card reader and delete pg05img.zip? I'm not sure I got that?

[Q] Revolutionary S Off but stuck at bootloader?

Hi Everyone,
I just posted this over in development but I thought maybe Q & A would be better.
Revolutionary and Soff but at the end it asked if I wanted to flash CWM (I didn't see that in the instrctions), I did and it said success. Now I renamed the twrp file to PG86IMG.zip already and it is on the root of my sd card. Is this step even necessary if it already flashed CWM successfully (supposedly)? At this point I am at the hboot screen and I stopped so as not to screw anything up. I apologize guys I am almost finished I promise to stay out of the way after I complete the last couple of steps.
I apologize for bothering you I was just scared to move at this point.
Charles
It won't mess anything up, but no it is not necessary.

Ok so I just go straight into the recovery select toggle usb and then rename the PG86IMG.zip to PG86IMGShooter.zip, then
Flash root zip:
Download the superuser file from here or my mirror here. Put it on your phones SD card. Press power to unmount, select Apply update from zip and press power. Select Choose zip from SD card and press power. Find the superuser zip and press the power button. After the zip is applied you will be returned to the previous menu. Select Reboot System and wait for your phone to boot back up.
Is that correct?
Thank you so much aimbdd!
OK I think I can get it if I can get into recovery from the FASTBOOT USB screen. Do I want to select FASTBOOT USB or BOOTLOADER, REBOOT, REBOOT BOOTLOADER or POWER DOWN?
Thanks again everyone

That is correct. As long as your recovery is working. When I let the revolutionary program flash clockwork, it said it was successful but did not work. I would just hang at the htc screen when trying to boot to recovery. So I downloaded the PG86IMG.zip of TWRP recovery, put it on my sd card, and flashed that.
But yes, once you have the recovery all set, the method you just posted by aimbdd is correct and should work just fine.
Thank you k2buckley

OK So I guess that is a known issue with the CWM part of Revolutionary. Is there a way to check I guess power down and then hold volume button down see what comes up? I'm going to flash the twrp file if I get stuck will you be on for a few more minutes?
I wish I could thank you but there isn't a button? I don't know why?

Yes, I'll be on for a bit. I'm always checking in here, I must be sick or something. Anyways, yea I think quite a few people experienced clockwork not flashing correctly. Yes, you can check to see if you have recovery. Pull your battery, then put it back in. Hold your power button and volume down button simultaneously until your hboot screen pops up, then let go. Then select recovery, and see if you boot into clockwork. If it hangs at htc screen, that means that clockwork failed to flash. In that case, pull the battery, and boot up if you can. Put the PG86IMG.zip of TWRP recovery on the main directory of your sd card (not in any folders). Be sure it's named correctly. For your ease, I'll upload my copy which is already named properly. Just put it on your sd card, then boot to the bootloader. It'll ask you to update. Then press volume up to say yes. Then reboot. THen go back to your bootloader and select recovery. You should now successfully boot into TWRP. At that point, flash the su zip file you've downloaded so you'll have super user, busy box, and su. Then you'll be fully rooted and good to go.
EDIT: and no worries about the thanks. If you're not seeing the thanks button, and you're actually on the XDA website, and not the app....then most likely you need to scroll all the way down to the bottom of the screen, and look to the left side. You'll see a spot that says "XDA Classic". Change that to "XDA 2010", and you should then have the thank you button appear.
I Have CWM Recovery v4.0.1.4
I have CWM so now I need to hook it up to the laptop and toggle usb and then flash the su file?
I promise to use all of my thanks tommorrow or later if I can figure out why I can't see them. I am used to it ont the XDA app but not on my computer.

Oh how do I make a nandroid of my stock barely rooted HTC Rom?
Do you know if you were connected to the internet when it asked if you wanted to flash CWM? or do you think it was a fix that was added in recently to Revolutionary?

Yes, since you have clockwork, just flash the su file. For sure. If you look at my last post, I edited it, and think I know why your thanks button doesn't show up. Check it out. And no worries about the thanks, seriously. Save em for the developers! I think you needed to be connected to the internet when it flashed clockwork so it downloaded. not sure though.

You're very welcome,
I was also on Amon Ra for the Evo. With clockwork you will choose 'mount USB storage" I believe. I haven't used CWM in forever, but that seems to be correct.

haha. I don't remember exactly how to create a backup on clockwork. Personally, I made my backup after I flashed the su file, that way the backup I created was fully rooted with su, super user, and busybox installed already. So I'd flash the su file, then create your backup. I only used clockwork for like the first week I had my original Evo 4G, then switched to Amon. So I think in order to create the backup, you choose 'create backup', or 'nandroid backup', or backup, or something like that. I apologize, but I'm really not sure.

OK so I go ahead and flash the superuser file the do I reboot and let the phone power on download updated busy box then go back to CWM and create a nandroid of "stock" or current ROM or should I do the nandroid after the SU file flash before I reboot?
This should be my last question. I was going to do a little "wrestling" with the management so I need to hurry up before she falls asleep

You're welcome. Never a problem.
Yes, flash the su file. I would not update busy box or download any different versions or whatever. Just roll with the one that is included in the su file you're going to flash. I've had problems before from downloading busy box from the market, for whatever reason. Once you flash that file, boot up, and make sure everything is working okay. Be sure you have the super user app in your app drawer, and try some root apps to make sure that they are properly granted SU access. After you confirm everything is okay, boot back into clockwork and create your backup. You'll then be good to go.
Thank you again

you need to somehow flash the boot partition with the boot.img file to stop the boot loop
Just remove the sdcard, then boot phone into bootloader highlight fastboot then from computer extract the boot.img from a ROM and place it inside the platform-tools folder then go fastboot flash boot boot.img and that should fix your problems hope u get it and it helps .... Need more help just PM me

Yes it worked!!! Thanks guys
You can also install the new 4EXT recovery touch with smartflash s-on to flash the roms without the need of using fastboot anymore ..hope it helps

You will have to extract the boot.IMG file from the zip file and flash via fastboot flash boot boot.IMG and it will reboot the phone also

Hey,
I'm an experienced flasher who got a lil flash happy and is now stuck. I can't get into the recovery because I have a PCIMG86.zip on my sdcard and when I load into the bootloader it automatically tries to update. I don't have another sdcard to use nor do I have sdcard slot on a PC/laptop. Is there anything I can do to get back into recovery?
Boot into your rom and open up a file explorer or file manger and remove the zip or put the zip into a folder.

i dont think there is a way without being able to removing the file first

Nope. You have to do what the people in this thread said about a month ago. If you can boot up your phone and restart into recovery you can do that. And don't feel bad I did this earlier when I got flash happy lol. ICS will do that to ya.
Have you tried booting your phone into safe mode ??? Also I noticed you asked is there any command to stop the update does this mean you have adb ??
#Root-Hack_Mod*Always\
In bootloader adb doesn't detect the device...same goes with being in recovery.
Also, the bootloader automatically picks up the pcimg86.zip file. I think I messed something else up though cause its not even mounting the sdcard anymore...it's frustrating.
I must've did some damage when trying to force my mem card in while the battery was in as well (I miss the evo 4g when you could do that). So now I need either a) an sdcard reader b) another sdcard or c) another phone cause it doesn't read sdcards anymore....
Having no phone sucks in 2012 :-/

[Q] Unbrick Help

so, my HTC Evo 3D is bricked, I think. I was bored last night at work and I was moving some apps to my sd card. One of the apps I moved was Plume for Twitter. When I launched Plume, it told me I had to restart my phone for the notification settings to be applied. So I did. It booted up fine but when I turned my screen off when I was done with work, the screen wouldn't unlock. There was just the notification bar and my wallpaper. I couldn't hit any buttons, or slide the notification bar down. I tried calling my phone from work but it just said missed call from work. It boots into bootloader and adb is working. I am downloading PG86IMG.zip now and I'm going to try to flash that unless someone else has a better idea what to do. Can someone please help?
Thanks in advance!

I tried restoring from a backup. I tried factory resetting also. And now its just bringing me to the white HTC screen and not getting any farther. I'm on HBOOT 1.5 and I've been using HTCDumLock to flash roms. Should I just do it the old fashioned way and flash the PG.zip using fastboot?
Have you tried flashing the rom then reboot to recovery via fastboot then flash the kernel. Or flashing the boot partition???

I tried that. But now when I try to copy over the PG.zip file it says I don't have enough space on my SD card so I deleted some things that I don't need and its still saying it. I tried flashing the rom I had before it, and all it says is unable to unzip.
Back up your sd. The format it and restore the default partitions. Then try it.

Flash the Boot.img
you might have a "softbrick" on your hands.. An easy way to fix it is to extract the Boot.img from your current custom rom and then flash it using fastboot like so:
Be sure to cd/ to the location of the boot.img
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
then Fastboot boot boot.img to restart
Somewhere along the lines you might have accidentaly tried to boot the wrong rom on the wrong boot.img.
Sorry if this doesn't help...

I tried that..no luck. I'm currently using my friends old phone, the Samsung Moment...which is sprints first crack at an android phone. Its a far cry from my EVO 3D, but I will have to live with it until I can figure what I will do next. Thanks for trying to help, I appreciate it!

yeah a buddy of mine said I soft bricked it. I'm not quite sure what that means but he's going to look at it and hope to get it back in working order so I don't have to use this awful phone (samsung moment)

Urgently need help. Would appreciate it very much.

Dear all,
Here is the situation. I decided to root my evo 3d gsm (hboot 1.5++) today, and all went well until I flashed a rom (virtuous). Now whenever I boot on the phone, it shows me this "V" logo and loads for more than 10minutes or so. I can go into my bootloader, but when I attempt to do anything from my clockworkmod recovery, when I press the power button to select different options, I get blank menus and I can attempt nothing. I am an unexperienced user, and can anyone out there who is experience render some assistance? I am at my wits end...
Thanks
Well I'm not too familier with the gsm version... the "V", is that part of the boot animation? and does it just loop over and over? maybe try reflashing clockworkmod and re wipe and install?

The "V" is the part of the boot animation. And the "V" just glows again and again, yeah so i guess it loops. Why I am so worried is because I saw a window of my HTC sense booting to life earlier on, but I saw the words "Unfortunately... has... crashed..." but it was very brief, and after which the animation began again. Is it because I waited for too short a period of time? (around 15 minutes or so) or because it really boot looped? And how do I reflash clockwordmod when I can't access my phone and sd card? Will appreciate your kind help...
I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes for something too boot, and it should really never take longer than that. Can you tell me the steps you took to flash the rom(not to root it). and could you give some more info about your phone? are you s-on or s-off? And what do you mean by blank menus in clockwork mod? Do you know how to boot into your hboot menu? from there you can boot to fastboot and install the recovery from your pc. connect your phone to the pc while in fastboot mode and get your recovery.img file and type the following command from the command line:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery /path/to/<recovery>.img

Ok, here is the infomation. I live in Singapore, which is a part of Southeast Asia, my phone is the GSM version with HBoot 1.530007(i cant remember the decimal placing).
I firstly used HTCDEV to unlock my bootloader, which went well, then I went to evohacks to get the conventional rooting method, which went well too. And it all came when I was careless, and I accidentally forgot to wipe the data and cache of my evo before i flashed the rom. And now it gets stuck in the "V" logo loading phase. If the hboot menu is the menu where I have to press the powerbutton and the volume down button then yes. I can also get into my recovery, but the problem is that it shows a blank menu in (clockwordmod specifically), thus rendering whatever me helpless. i have downloaded the PG86IMG.zip and Im waiting for it to finish. So how do I go about solving this matter? This phone is my only asset and I really want to save it...
Blank menu as in for example when I click "Reboot", or "Factory Reset" or perhaps "Restore" in the CWD Recovery, it just shows me a blank menu with the CWD logo in the background, with no options or drop down words or whatsoever. And the sad thing is that I did not make any recoveries at all.... So I plucked my sd card out, and now im waiting to finish downloading the PG86IMG.zip to put on my sd and into my phone, and flash it to revert it back to stock and stuff..... I hope this works
Ok, well as long as you can get to either hboot or recovery you'll be ok. I would recommend flashing 4ext recovery, as it has never failed me and seems to help others. here is the link to it. Download that and pull the recovery.img out and flash that from your pc with the command I gave above. It sounds like you are either pushing the wrong button in the recovery or it might just be messing up for some reason. Is it the touchscreen version of clockworkmod?

The recovery is the free version, so it shouldn't be the touch one. May I ask, what do you mean by recovery.img? I emptied my SD card so that I can put the PG86IMG.zip into it later. Any more specific steps you can give? Sorry but Im really a newb in the android world

The recovery.img is the image that the phone flashes to install the recovery. If you look in the zip I posted in the link you'll see that file in there. the one I posted is the 4ext touch recovery. you can manually flash that file to your phone in case you can't get it to boot(like your case). I would suggest trying the 4ext recovery I linked, or maybe try to boot to recovery again and see if its touch based. Were the menus working when you flashed the virtuous rom, and then it stopped working?
OH stupid me. Whoops. Actually I CAN navigate. Ive been pressing the wrong button all this while. I pressed the power instead of the camera, which is the select button. Whoops. seems like CMD was working after all. sorry...
ok but still, can I just attempt to install the RUU file I downloaded in the CWD menu? Will it work? Will my phone be reverted back to its original unrooted state? I saw someone say it could...
There is something bugging me though. My SD card is now completely empty. Will it have any negative effects on what i do?
I thought something like that was happening, glad you got it sorted. Try to wipe everything and reinstall your virtious rom again first. yes the PG86IMG.zip will return you back to complete stock, recovery and all. So if you do that you might have to re-root all over again.

no it won't.
thank you so much! So since now everything is clean, you recommend another shot at the virtous? I just drag it and put it in my sd card right? Neat! Will go try, if i encounter another problem will come back here. Thanks a lot! It really means a lot to me!

I would recommend trying it before you go back to stock just to re-do it all, but its up to you. yeah if you need more help just come here or pm me. glad you got it working again!
Thank You!
Oh ok! I thought by clearing the data using recovery on the phone and sd will render the root useless. Will try redoing it again. Will update you on the further details
Many thanks!

If you only wipe /data/ you will still have root. sdcard doesn't matter.

So theoretically flashing the ROM shouldn't take more than... around 15 minutes?
correct
Its now 10 minutes and so far my phone had made 2 major vibrations. So if this doesn't work, can i just wipe all the data again, put the PG86IMG.zip in my phone, go to recovery to install it, and then I just press reboot right?

Sometimes sense roms can take a bit, but if its vibrating than it should be working. if not just put the PG86IMG.zip on the root of your sdcard and boot into hboot and let it do its thing. no need to wipe data for that.
