Hi There. I'am searching for a way to kill an app after using it. Of course there are tools like advanced task killer, but some application will start automatically again and again after killing them with this tool.
Exactly I'am asking for stopping QQ Messenger. If I force stop this app it will stay stopped, but is there a way to create a shortcut or something simular, so I dont have to go into the whole menue to do this?

Is your Phone running cm7?Cause in cm7 you can force stop an app holding the back button for 2seconds

Yes there is CM7 on it and I know this trick. But sometimes the wrong app switch to the front and I kill the wrong one.
A Shortcut or small App to kill other Apps would be great. For example something like the old "stop skype".
Nobody can help?
If you're using ADW that came with cm7. Long press the app icon on the home screen, choose Application infos, that will take you directly to the app's manage application which you can force kill

How about 'SwipePad'
Giving an app called 'SwipePad' a go which is available in the market. Within the app you can add a shortcut to Context Panel. Basically when you have the app open, trigger Swipepad from within the app and select Context Panel and force close.

I'm also looking for an app that can force stop white list apps with a single tap on its widget.
Going to info and hitting force stop is annoying, so this app should have root access to automatically
do it it for me. I use Super Manager and OS Monitor, but they can't force stop apps in the discribed way.
Advanced Task Killer can't do it either, i unistalled it.
So if someone knows about an app with this capability, or if someone has the knowledge to program smth.

Use "Autorun Manager" from Play Store. From its settings, check "Prevent Restart" to disable an app which restart automatically.

Thanks, tried it out , but this is not what we are looking for, so case not closed.
The app should force stop/kill apps and their widget services with their annoying notifications that can't really be disabled the easy way!

This worked a charm
multitasking
When you hit the multitask button on your phone and swipe the stop away. That's not really closing the app its still running

I thanked you by mistake instead of quoting. You're talking about the recent apps screen since ICS, but the OP is talking about Gingerbread. Also, in ICS and JB, if you swipe away an app from the recent apps screen, it's really being closed. Not running in the background. You can check your free RAM before and after swiping away an app to see if it's fully closing or not. Also if you open the app again, it'll take a considerable time rather than open instantly. This is because the app needs to be loaded into RAM all over again, which wouldn't happen if it wasn't fully closed.

I have tried a lot of Task Manager, but i haven't found workable "kill all" function because when I push it, then the phone app closes as well and I must to enter the PIN code all the time i used "kill all" option.
Interesting that some "kill all" apps works fine on first try, and do not ask the PIN code after memory clean, but after phone restart this situation changes.
Anybody knows workable solution for kill all?
What should is ignore on "kill all"?
My only chance to switch off the PIN code security and after "kill all" the phone signing in automatically. That's not a good solution for me, because i am a non-prepaid user, so i have to take care about my phone security and my bill as well.

Using task killers is not good for the system. Android has an automated ram management system. Use task killers only for rogue apps(better force close it)...
As for your problem I have no idea I don't get any pin when I used kill all(using advanced task killer free)

I'm glad to see your solutions, guys.
The problem is that i don't find "Backup and Restore" app or service on my SonyEricsson X8 phone with Android 1.6.
Why?
maybe you had it to ignore list...
This only happen to me if I run a task killer while USB Debugging is enabled. Try disabling it and check again.

I certainly don't see how they are 'bad' for the system. I kill off apps that could potentially using up my credit in the background to download ads. And, you know, when you use a computer you don't leave every single program open, and wait for the system to automatically kill it when it needs more ram.
Why use an app to kill apps, anyway? Android comes with a perfectly capable applications manager.
better you see the android flowchart system first, android can kill your app when it's very needed like when your memory is too low

Have you ever wondered just what is running in the background, using up all your memory, draining your battery and why/how apps can start themselves back up even after you have stopped them running either through the settings menu or with a task killer............
I did, so I looked into this app and this is what I've figured out so far.
Some apps (Google maps for example, as this is one of the worst culprits I've found so far) have rules built into them which can start the app running in the background whenever a certain parameter is met on your phone, this means that no matter how many times you kill the app it can always find a rule to get going again which is another reason you shouldn't use a task killer as they create an endless cycle app starts task killer kills it app starts again task killer kil........ you get the picture? Which often ends up using more resources which our wildfires are seriously lacking.
Some of the rules are ridiculous too such as Google maps can start itself simply by you plugging in the phones charger.
Well anyway back to the point, this app https://market.android.com/details?id=com.elsdoerfer.android.autostarts&hl=en autostarts can disable those rules (needs root access) and the best way to use it I feel is like this.
Start the app and wait a minute for it to load, then hit your menu button and choose group by application .
Search through the list and disable the parameters for apps you don't want running in the background.
Be very careful with system apps as some can stuff up the phone.
This app increases the speed of my phone big time and allows me to control what us running and when. I'd say its the best app I've ever bought.

Not to my knowledge, I'm running v6 too.
All it does is break the rules so an app you don't need in the background can't start until you allow it to by selecting it from the app drawer, then if you close/kill the app when you're done with it it shouldn't start up again by itself.

sorry, me again could i just ask you what you set Google maps permissions in Autostart? as i can see, Ive turned all off apart from bottom 2. As the permissions seem not needed.
The way I set it up is all or nothing, that way every loophole is closed for apps I don't want running.
You can change your signature by clicking on your username top right, from there I can't remember as I'm not at a PC.
Click around in your profile till you find signature tab or edit signature.

Kind of but if an app doesn't really need to run, look at this picture and read the labels,

So to me the best way to deal with it would be to cancel everything then it will only start when i want it to and if you close it properly it won't hang about in the background.

I cannot for the life of me kill Google maps. It will start right back up. I have it turned off completely with autostarts and with Gemini app manager.
Can go into expert mode with Gemini app manager, kill it, refresh the list, and it will be running again.
I haven't used maps in two days
EDIT: I want maps to run only when I tell it to. So no freezing or disabling.

or turn off gps... thats the only times maps tries anything, otherwise it just wakes up the phone to check for gps which ends up being only like 0.3% battery eating

My maps is usually always running, but never uses any battery. Like others said make sure you have GPS off, and if you keep trying to kill it, it will only automatically relaunch which will consume battery. If you don't like it, freeze the app, thats about the only this.

This app is started by a number of intents and receivers. Disabling them will stop it from starting but may also disable features.
You can turn off gps use for location. It will be less accurate but still work using other things like wifi.
Use something like ROM Toolbox, go to app manager and long press maps. Select advanced freeze. Among the many choices look for those containing the word "latitude" or "friends". Uncheck them. Maps should continue to work if you did it right BUT the Latitude & Friends services will probably not work.

Remove Google Maps from any app killer you are using and restart your device. Is it still consuming that much battery power?
Other than freezing it, apps are free to open as they please on Android, something I've never been a fan of.
A simple "kill" will not work...you need to "force stop" it. Settings...Apps...Maps...Force Stop. If you have all autostarts disabled, it won't come back until you open it.

This was true for about a week.
Then it's like autostarts is just not enough.. It still boots on its own. The photo includes autostarts and Gemini app manager both having it completely disabled

The top app is Facebook in Wakelock Detector. It's the main culprit but I have even disabled the Notifications from the FB app and also disabled it to autostart using AutoRun Manager + Greenify it whenever I don't use it.

I've tried Greenify and it doesn't work all that well. Facebook is one of the apps it just can't hibernate and it always starts up again.
I found a workaround though, but it depends on how intensly you depend on Facebook.
I installed an app called App Quarantine. It puts apps (even system ones) down to sleep without any chance of them starting up again without your consent. The thing is it's not as simple as with Greenify, since when you Quarantine an app, it dissappears from the phone. Icon, widgets, shortcuts, everything, it's like you don't have it installed.
The thing is you have to set a widget from App Quarantine for the app you quarantined and then the widget comes out in form on the app's icon, with a lock on it. If you want to use the app, you just click on the widget and then it comes back to life and opens. If you're done using the app, you click the icon-widget again and it locks it, and that's it.
I use it on the Facebook app and it doesn't come back on eating my battery, however the "downside" is that if you rely constantly on FB notifications and such, you won't get them since the app is quarantined. However I set my Facebook account up so that everytime I get a notification it sends me an email, so via email I'm still "getting my notificacions" even though the app is quarantined.
I guess it depends on everyone's usage of a determined app, but FOR ME it has gone well and saved me a lot of battery life since I've quarantined a bunch of apps that I just use or check a couple of times a day and that are major battery drainers if not controlled.

Well, i came across this option as i play with the recent apps. I already know how to use "Pin this App" as its been there from previous version. But this "Lock This App" looks new. I tried everything there is to try from locking and unlocking an apps, nothings happened. Really wish Samsung include the Mask & Lock App again as it uses fingerprint to lock individual apps without using the comolex Secure Folder.
Anyone knows how to use the option?

forgive me if i got your question wrong . but lock this app option in recent panel means if you press " close all " button this app remain in recent apps and dont get closed . it has nothing to do with puting password on apps .

well, initially thats my idea about it. Then i tried everything there is to try including locking an app, then clear recent apps. it cleared the app. lock app doesn't do anything. or its just a bug on my device i suppose. thanks btw.
you get it wrong. lock apps will not get removed from the recent menu (and not removed from memory) when you hit close all!

I like the fact that it prevents the app from being closed with the close all button and even prevents the close all button from appearing all together. The issue I'm having is I swipe the apps to close them and "Lock this app" doesnt prevent that. Is this a glitch on my end or is this no longer possible? That's what I liked about the pin app feature in previous version, as I use several apps at once, like music apps in the background while working on projects, etc. So if I swipe 1 or 2 apps away, sometimes I go so fast I swipe the music away instead and stops my momentum. The recent apps section helps unless I use more than 4 apps. :laugh:

I have the s9 and also locking apps in recent menu doesn't prevent swiping them away.
