[Q] Terminal Emulator Widget? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'd like to get a homescreen terminal widget if that's possible. Literally just a text box on the homescreen that I can run shell commands with.
With that said:
1. Is there such an app in existence already? If so please point it out to me. If not then...
2. Would there be any software/hardware limitations that would prevent me from developing one? I don't want to start trying to develop it and then find out that it was impossible from the start.
3. Does anyone think this is even a good idea? Just want some feedback on this.
Thanks in advance for the responses.

well i think that if you have terminal emulator on your device as an app then you can use a shortcut to the app and it will in turn open up with a tap and you will be right there to do all your commands as normal and being that it will have been the last app that was launched from home a simple back press will exit you out of it. I really dont see the need of having a terminal emulator widget since it will lead you to the same place to do the same thing with this method. choose applications and pick emulator of choice!

True enough, but I'm bored enough with life to try making a widget anyways. What I've thought of was making a 3x4 or 4x4 widget that could show feedback, and a text input field to put the commands into. Mainly just because I like widgets lol

Looking for folder organization software..

Hi folks. I have recently been looking for something in the ways of adding "more" icons for games and stuff and better organization of them. Basically, if I have a dozen or more games installed, I'd like to group these games into a folder and be able to enter it and access all of my installed games at once.
Maybe I don't know enough about Gingerbread and it already has a feature integrated that would do this? All I can see is the ability to add items to the few home screens.
I did see some launcher replacements that had something to this effect, but I am not looking to replace Sense (as I like it and think it's fine), but does anyone know of an application or add-on of some type that will allow this and has a small footprint memory wise? I nice small solid stable app would be pretty nice Any advice is appreciated.
I never use them except when I was on MIUI. But yes we do have Folders on Sense 3.0, just hold on the homescreen and you will see Folder pop up as one of the options. Or some people like the Simi Folder app, I think that's what its called.

Making an android launcher?

OK, so i am making an android launcher.
The UI
well, it will be very similar to the windows phone UI, swiping left and right between the home screen and vertical, 4 column app drawer. so the app drawer will work like the defualt vertical one on stock android. but the home screens will move vertically, swiping up/down will go to the next screen.
i think, to make the app drawer/home screen left/right swiping work, i need to have a linear layout fragment, (im working in eclipse) so that the screen would be larger than the actual screen, it will simply show PART of the fragment which will be the home screen. i need to find out if that could work.
anything else i need to know for making this app.
i have practicaly no experience but i can learn quickly. the android tutorials are not helping much for this type of app, for some reason i cant import already built android launcher into eclipse.
thanx for all the tips and help.
Thought of a name???

You haven't even finished the project but have started its thread? I don't think that's allowed here.
Code:
System.out.println("Sent from my SGY");
first of all im only a 17 year old highschool who is doing this for senior project, a year long project with a "learning stretch" so i need all the help i can get.
im just wondering, does anyone know anything that could help me. anything at all.
so like bits of code that could help the system recognize the app as a launcher, so when i press home, it asks me if i want to use it.
second: how can i create a 2 page layout, i was thinking a linear layout fragment could work, so it would act as a big screen that can be moved, but then vertical scrolling could become limited.
third: how can i get the vertical app drawer to appear in the fragment.
fourth, how can i make home screens, and make them work vertically, and add widgets and stuff to them.
that is about all i need. if anyone can help, thanks alot
i will not be asking for donations and the app will be free to all when it is done
(want a credits page. ok just tell me)
app name, hmm... i was thinking Dual Launcher (cause it works with two screens vertically side by side. but im still thinking
thanx for thinking this is at least a good idea.

Idea is a great one. I'm a noob at apk development so i've no idea about launchers. Just a tip, don't make it two screens side by side. It may look good on tablets, but not on smartphones. And FYI, i'm 16, in 10th grade, and have developed my first app .
Code:
System.out.println("Sent from my SGY");
ok. look, dont be rude, you had your first time making an app, was it frustrating, probably, same here, since im making a luancher.
im trying to make the launcher simple as can be because i already know this is gona be hard, cause i have no coding xp.
so if you can help out with some starting codes, that would be great. i have to give credit though because its a project at school lol.
if i can get the 2 screens sliding left and right, im basically good to go, the rest i can handle.... probably
i had another idea.
modifying the cupcake launcher and adding side buttons to the bar, they would move with the app drawer sliding up too.
We are being taught Java at school since 9th grade, so i just had to learn some new things because i knew basic Java. And yes, it was very frustating. I can't help you with the codes if you don't even know basic Java (you said you didn't have any coding xp). There are many tutorials on the net, first learn some Java, practise it and then you're good to go. The learning will hardly take a week, if you're a quick one.
Code:
System.out.println("Sent from my SGY");

Its a really minimal launcher, it doesn't even have a wallpaper.

Here is what I have planned out.
1.linear layout with fragment, in.
.XML
2.split up the 2 fragments and make them desperate
3.add vertical 4 column app drawer to right side frag, and enable widgets and icons to be put on left frag.
Make the frags recognize swipe gestures so u could move screens (java)
Done
All I need is the codes. I have some, but they are not helping much. They r confusing.

Not trying to be offensive, but let me get this straight...
All you need is the codes? That's like most of the work. Sure, I'm all for asking for some help, but read some tutorials -and try making some simple apps first to get used to the logic. Learning the hard way by taking examples and figuring them out works, but only if you have already made some research and have prior experience.
My advise: learn first, try later.

Absolutely right.
People here is not helping you because you are not looking for a little tech help with the code, actually you're asking someone else to make your launcher.
Also, learning java takes a week or less? Sorry guys, this is simply not true. No offence, being able to make a small app does not mean you know the Java nor you're a developer. No way, you have to study, follow tutorials and, at that point only, asking people for some help with codes makes sense.

Need an app that's just an image, would appreciate help

Hi,
I'm a complete newbie to the world of app-making, and it's something that I intend on learning soon in the near future. However for now I am currently in a bit of a pickle with making a super basic app that I want to use as a tool. So as everyone does, I've come running to a forum for help
All I want my app to do is simply open up, and display an image. Nothing else, no buttons, no exit option, etc. Just simply want this image displayed (It's my school timetable): http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2014/125/9/1/timetable_by_mharris333-d7hb210.jpg
If anyone could quickly grab this and chuck it into an app for me that would be amazing
Phone info:
Xperia Z1 (5-inch Display)
Android 4.4
Thanks in advance,
Michael

Not the place to post questions. How about Playstore. Bluetooth Widget....
I don't agree with you. This is the the theming and apps forum for GS S5. A widget is part of a theme or an app so I do consider that this is the right place. Anyways, thank you. I found in the Play store what I needed.
Moderators, if you find my post not appropriate for this forum please move it or delete it. Thank you.

Sorry you don't agree. But again...in any case a lot of useless posts being posted in lieu of using Google...your best friend or simply search the Forum posts. My 2c. Happy to have helped.
With all due respect for the fact that you have 10 times more posts than me and without rambling about the free internet and expression I'm going to say only that. This is a moderated forum and would be nice if only moderators can judge and act if this is a useless post or not.
By the way do you know how to resize a widget which is fixed and Nova cannot resize it. It is labeled as 1x1 but it way bigger than the other widgets (playstore - widget bluetooth by greenlos).
Thanks and have a good one.

I'm not here to judge. I'm here to help. Let's start over. The KISS method. Keep it simple (I won't say the last, since it wasn't intended)
Instead of a widget per se, how about a shortcut. Go to your widgets and look at settings shortcuts and simply create a shortcut to Bluetooth. That should work. That should give you the same size as all your icons I would think. I use this method a lot, such as direct message or direct phone call shortcuts to certain contacts I want immediate access to, instead of opening a phone app or a message app. In nova, you can drag down to the dock too. Hope that helps.....Sorry again if you took my posts the wrong way. Not here to judge.
No worries. I didn't take it personally. We're all good.
Well the KISS method didn't work. The Bluetooth Widget from Playstore installed as a widget. I cannot find it in the apps drawer nor in the shortcuts list. It is only available through the widgets list. This widget has a double function which I like it. One tap turns on/off BT and double tab enters the settings for BT but unfortunately it is double in size than the others and it looks really ugly. Nova does not give me the option to edit it so I cannot change the icon with another one. I may have to look for another option.
Thanks for your help.

You misunderstand what I suggested. Let me open Nove and give you step by step. IOW...you don't have to use the Playstore widget. You use a direct shortcut setting instead.
EDIT: I have Nova Prime, but the XNote ROM is acting weird. I can use TW launcher, create a shortcut looking at the widget selections to Settings:Bluetooth and that works. IOW go to the settings choice and then all the various settings choices open up. Choose BT and then you have a direct shortcut to BT on your desktop. Yeah it's nice the single tap vs double tap the playstore app gave you, but you can't resize the 1x1 unless you get into editing the widget itself, and I won't go there here. But with Nova, you long press the screen and choose shorcuts, then settings then BT and I get app isn't installed? Weird.
I didn't.
If I can find a shortcut to the BT settings would be great but I tried and got permission denied.
The reason why I'm looking for this kind of widget with double function is that I have all the time BT devices around me (10-15 all in total). They're everywhere and accessing through settings takes one more click and I also have the problem that I don't associate visually the settings icon right away with BT so I'm going all over the place for it.
You're right though. Finding a way to place a shortcut on the home screen is easier than modifying the apps icon size and shape.
Another solution would be if i can find a way to create a shortcut for the BT quick setting.

Touch wiz launcher lets me do this. Nova doesn't and Holo doesn't. Try what I say to see. In settings change default launcher back to Touch Wiz. Then scroll the widgets for settings. Open that up and create a desktop BT shortcut. You should see all your devices simply opening that up. I don't know why the other launchers are creating havoc. Guess it's a Kit Kat thing. Don't know.
Edit: Hang on...I think I May have a fix., It is a KK thing that google messed around with permissions. Testing something.....
Thank you. We'll do.

Didn't work. I have some urgent stuff I need to get too. All I know is prior to 4.4 this wouldn't be an issue, in the reading I have done. I thought I found something that would allow to edit the permissions to run called com.findsdk.apppermission on Playstore. But looking at that I could not find anything to actually go from off to on(allow). So that said, it's either 1. a larger widget. or 2. Touchwiz launcher that allows a BT shortcut. If I think of anything, I'll try to get back. I even hoped it would be a SU (superuser) easy fix...but nope. Anyway...I don't like being beaten by an issue such as this...so I will keep it on the backburner.....:good:

Coming from IOS, noob questions

Hi guys!
I'm just enjoying the new open world of my very first Android device, after 8 years of iOs.
In certain ways- it really just very new and fresh and enjoyable-, and in other ways there are small annoyances which i hope i can find a solution with your help (or will just get used to them)
GENERAL, ANDROID, SEARCH
First of all,i'm a keyboard guy. Because of that, since IOS3, i wasn't using screens, but rather the search option, in my opinion there is really no better way to look for an app, but hit the first few letter, and choose from the narrowed list.
In pixel launcher, i was very happy with the search field, BUT, it's at the top on the screen and you have to touch it before keyboard comes up
I mean... COME ON. Seriously?
Phones are over 5.5" phone, this is really a pain in the butt.
I have a big hand, but it's impossible to reach with one hand.
Why not the keyboard comes up TOGETHER with the launcher?? So my question is:
Is there any app, which provide a search among installed apps, and can be reached easily with a shortcut (i mean like in IOS, -> swipe down, and type immediately | no hassle to tap the input field, then wait for the keyboard
NOTIFICATIONS
This one is very simple. Is there any way to make it like IOS?
I mean, in my opinion:
every notification should be one item (not grouped by programs)
when i click on one item, it opens the target itself, and not the program in which the target is (ie: it opens the received email, and not the email app)
Is there any hack / settings / app for all the above?
I would be just really very happy...
Thanks for reading me

Perhaps you didn't read my comment properly. Since you had asked if there was an app with features like apple or whatever I said download ios launcher from playstore. Anyways I am out of here. Perhaps some other person may help you out.
You can download the "nils lockscreen notifications" app from play store and espier launcher pro from google
