Photon Battery - Sedio Extended - Motorola Photon 4G

So I was one of those who was finding my battery life to not be sufficient on the Photon and bought the Seidio extended battery. First thought is that it does make the phone heavier, but I can deal with that. Not a deal breaker.
My issue is that the Photon doesn't recognize the fact that I now have the extended battery. I've spent the last two days using Battery calibration software (charging overnight to 100%) and then trying to discharge completely and recharge. The problem is that the phone continually is showing 1% for almost 3-4 hours if not longer. I can't get it to recognize that there is more juice in there.
While it's great that it seems to be working well (first real work day with it today), having the battery drain like mad (or seemingly) and then sitting at 1% for half or more of the day and not knowing when it will die is a problem.
I wonder if this is why the stock seemed to drain so quickly - maybe it's a programming bug? Firmware bug? I dunno. In any event, any suggestions on how to make the phone actually see that there's more juice would be great.
As an FYI I've used "Battery Calibrator" - both of them and Battery Drainer and Fast Discharge to get the phone down. I am rooted, but everything is stock other then the root itself.
I spoke with Sedio - they said I should unroot the phone and do a master reset. I can't believe that would make it work better - but I'd rather ask this community first.
Thanks!

Check in the accessory forum there is a couple things on the Seidio battery and some people there that have them may have run into the same issue and have a fix for it.

Can't seem to find a thread where people talk about aa problem with it. Can you point me in the right direction?

I meant about the battery not that specific problem. If you post there they may have had a similar issue

Ahh.. Ok - actually someone on AndroidCentral just responded indicating the same issue on a non-rooted phone.. I'm gonnna try doing a full restore to see if that helps..

Yeah. Give that a shout and let us a know if it helps.

have this battery, after the initial eight cycles allow nearly complete discharge, allow to charge for at least two hours after phone indicates battery is fully charged..... my battery is working very well, just use a battery indicator from the market, I didnt piss around with any battery calibrators, think this might be your problem, have never used a calibrator on any of my phones with extended batteries. Android market probly has an app to wipe your ass.....do you really need it? Hope the analogy is clear to you.

LOL fair enough. I did do the full flash this morning - so I'm unrooted.. Hasn't seemed to help - drain looks the same.. Been through about 6 full cycles since I got the battery. What battery indicator program are you using? I have battery circle and it's got the same issue.
Again - battery lasts just fine - but the amount of power left is never accurately indicated to me - and that's the problem.

I have had many Seidio Batteries, dating back to the OG EVO. The problem I have with this particular battery is this: These batteries work "properly" when charged on an Independent Charger, NOT inside the phone. If you Cycle/Discharge/Charge with this Battery on an External Charger, the Battery should calibrate correctly. I still believe the issue with charging within the phone, is that the Mopho doesnt accurately measure the Battery Capacity. Try and External Charger, should solve your problems....
riggy

Riggy -
Battery def is charging fully as I get tons of life - the MoPho only shows 1% left though for hours on end.. It's a matter of it doesn't see the correct amount of juice left. As per cutter2668, it may just be a situation of discharge - charge. Dunno.

As an FYI I did the full flash this morning, and I haven't really seen a difference in the phone telling me how much batt life I had left. I'll give it another day and hopefully after a period of time it will start reflecting a true number.
I have also emailed Seidio support directly on the issue.

So as an update, seidio is going to be sending along a new battery to see if that solves the issue. I guess we will see!

Any luck on the new battery? Just noticed my extended battery is doing the same thing. :-(

So things still aren't working right. Battery shows 1 percent for half my day and the Photon just doesn't know. However, I read a thread on Amazon about a generic extended battery and someone suggested using Battery Monitor and using Voltage Based monitoring. Its certainly not perfect but it gives you a somewhat accurate reads on remaining battery. I truely wonder if this is OS or a hardware limitation.
Oh well.

Why doesn't anyone wipe the battery stats from recovery (only available if you have CWM recovery)?

Maybe this is an Android issue, I've read the LG Optimus S has the same problem with extended batteries.

Battery life and batteries

I dont know if i just have a bad battery in my phone but ive had it about a week now. No matter how much i use it even if i dont use it at all i can pull it off the charger at 7am and by 1030 or eleven its dead. Ive tried multiple roms to see if it helped but nothing. So my question is do droid x batteries work for this phone too? Ive been searching amazon for extended batteries and it seems like most are for droid x but some say that they are for both. Also does anyone else experince this? With the way the battery is on 2.3.4 i go from full to 15 percent out of nowhere. Im hoping an extened battery will at least allow me to get a full day of work out of it. If someone could link me to a good battery theat they have used that would be great too. Thanks.
Are you heavily calling, texting, gaming, etc during the time your phone's battery is rapidly gaming? Do you have your brightness turned all the way up? Do you allow account synching in the background? All of these are the main causes of battery drain, though they shouldn't drain it quite that quickly. You could very well have a bad battery. Try downloading app/widget battery left, charge up to 100%, and check the voltage on the battery. If less than 4.2 volts, it could mean a battery issue. However even if at 4.2, I can't gaurentee battery health.
Yes, Droid X batteries do in fact work for our phones. I'm actually using the Trident Electra case and battery meant for the X. I highly recommend it, I love the battery life (3 or so days without charging) and the protection the case offers.
Hope I could help!
Yea I hardly use ny phone for calls. And text. Mainly emails and just browsing the forums from time to time. But I manually sync my accounts. Just for this reason. But I have nevr seen anything like this. I have battery minored widget pro voltage is fine the graphs are hilarious to look at since the phone will go from 100 to 93 then drop knew by one to 80 then it drops to 47 and with a half hour of that its at fifteen and as soon as the low battery indicator comes on I hit ok and a minute later its dead.
Well hopefully problem solved ordered a two battery combo with wall charger. 3500mah

Dead like your phone shuts off? Or the phone % tells you its dead? My extended battery has never read correctly, right now its shows 1% at 3.997v thats most of a charge yet

I'm having some problems to. Today was the first day I really kept track of how fast my battery drained itself and my God, I feel like my phone should win an award for most juice lost in 4 hours.
I downloaded Easy Battery Saver from the market and started to use a battery widget to monitor my battey life and it honestly seems like the app is working. Give it a try and see how you like it.

I was under the impression that both the X and the X2 used the same battery (BH5X).
If I am wrong, someone please correct me...
They use the same battery. Have you tried calibrating? Charge to 100% then go to spare parts> battery info> then battery voltage. What is it?
Tapin' the Talk on the xSquared
What frequency do you have your email to check. If you have your email on push then the battery will die a lot faster also. I can kill my battery in 4 hours with non stop use. Orbit baby's it 15 he's has been my best. And yea the x and x2 use same battery my spare is from my Droid x and they are the same part number.
Thanks a lot for all the help guys I got the extended battery which helped a little. But I sold the phone already. Couldn't handle being so restricted.

I've also done a battery calibration and it still dies after a few hours. But i was getting about 12 to 13 hours on my stock battery.

1 day 13 hrs on stock battery

Ive been using 1800s lately..2 of them that i charge with an external charger that came with them. Usually getting around 18 hrs at normal/heavy use. Considering i was lucky if i ever made it 12 hrs on the stock 1500, it was a good deal.
So both 1800s were dead and the plug in charger wasnt charging for some reason...phone kept restarting.. so i popped in the stock as a last resort and it made it 1 day 13 hrs and might have kept going if i hadnt taken it out at 4%. Really??
What changed it? I had charged it on the external charger and itd been sitting unused for a few weeks. Or does the phone adjust to longer cycle times when using extended batteries?
Ill have repeat the experiment and see if i get the same results.

This comment was unnecessary. He's just asking a question.
Anyway, it may be a calibration issue but regardless how are you getting your battery to last so long? Do you not use your phone heavily?

Some higher power decided you deserved an ungodly amount of battery life considering two 1800's broke on you
I've no idea as to why this would happen. You got quite lucky my freind!
Just to clarify for future reference, battery calibration has never been and never will be relevant in accurate battery readings. It tracks what hardware and software on the phone have used the battery, nothing more.
Anyway, I don't have an answer for you. The fact that you got significantly less battery from your 1800's as opposed to your recent stock battery experience simply doesn't make sense. Could you have been using one of your 1800's and not realized it? I know that sounds silly, but that drastic improvement from a considerably weaker battery is illogical. I think you're missing something.
I could be wrong though, and for your sake I hope I am. I hate the stock battery. It's horrendous. Trident 3800mah ftw!
I am a heavy user most days. I turn the data off most nights and mostly just use wifi at home. I didnt play as many vids or any games that day but none of that matters most of the time. Light or heavy use and i usually get crappy battery life. The 1800s being the exception. Not broke...i just hadnt had time to charge them..the external charger is very slow..im talking 6 or more hrs for a full charge. So honestly no idea how my stock battery outlasted my 1800s... im going to put it on the external charger and try it again next battery change. Couldve been a fluke.

Obvious lack of a read is obvious. Please, do read the entire original post before making a response. It comes across as rude, and is simply not productive. It isn't necessary.
Thanks!
It was definitely the 1500... the batteries look different and the 1500 actually counts down accurately...was nice having that again for a change. The 1800s i have seem more for the atrix than the x2 or theyr from a batch that just dont report accurately. It goes from 99 down to 1% within the first few hrs and then just stays at 1% for the majority of the charge. So i never know when its going to shut off on me.
The 1500 is charging..so ill give it another go whenever the 1800 thats in now dies.

Mine has done that also, more than once. Doesn't seem to effect anything though. Seems to go away after a battery pull. Weird.
It mustve been a fluke. Used the 1500 again and got maybe 16 hrs. Thats still longer than what i usually got out of it when it was my daily. Letting it die completely and then using the external charger does seem to extend the charge cycle a bit..but thats nothing new.

That big drop off at the end always happens to me when I upload a big video to dropbox or I sync my T-backup to dropbox.
I don't have Wifi at home.
I have seen it mentioned in here a couple times now about "letting the battery die completely" don't you all realize how HORRIBLE that is for the life of a Li-on battery?! these batteries were DESIGNED to last longer and stay "healthier" when you plug in when it gets down low on charge (say 15-5% with 5% pushing it cuz its gonna shut off real soon) tho I do understand it's difficult to gauge when to plug in using a 1800mah(aka Bh6x battery) due to inaccurate readings by the system (it's best to use a widget that will show in real time the voltage left and when it gets low throw it in charger).
ALL these battery "calibration" apps& techniques have been lieing, they almost all day to drain battery completely when that's just a bad idea (not to mention "calibration" isn't actually necessary IMO anyways)
sorry, didn't mean to get off topic...

I see those "empty spaces" sometimes as well, usually happens if I have rebooted, pulled battery, gone into BSR , time got screwed up somehow (I set time manually most of time cuz i found using automatic setting seems to make my phone wake up for no apparent reason..if I need to reset time I just check the automatic box for a minute and the time/date goes to what it should be then I uncheck it)
but I haven't exactly pinned down what causes those lines, if I figure it out I'll let ya know

REVIEW:
OK, so I have had this bundle for a while and have done a lot of test on different ROMS and different usage. Here's what my personal experience showed me:
Before full testing I charged each battery and ran till phone shut off on joker's CM9. After battery would was charged I left on charger for another 6 hours. I did this 4 times for each battery.
Common across the board:
1) Battery never became hot
2) Broke one battery door doing battery pulls between ROM installs (bottom seems very flimsy and snapped off. Good thing it comes with 2 battery doors.
3)Battery indicator does not read battery level correctly on any ROM or kernel.
4) I used battery calibration app from market to do calibrate battery ever ever full charge. Same app on each test.
5) Once batteries where full cycled and ready for testing I never used stock battery.
STOCK ROM FINDINGS:
So I returned my photon to completely stock and rooted. No matter what I did when the battery level hit 0% the phone would shut off. I know the battery was not dead and my best estimate is there was over 50% of battery life left but because the battery level was not reading properly the system was seeing it as stock battery and thought it was dead. On average I would get between 6-8 hours of battery life before it would shut off. This was with moderate use.
Also sometimes my battery would go from 100% and drop immediately to 5% after mild use. Don't know why but it started doing this towards the end of the test.
So my findings on stock ROM you won't see much difference in battery life over stock. So if you are only going to run stock I would not recommend to buy this bundle.
JOKER'S CM9 BUILD:
Next I unlocked my bootloader again and installed Joker's CM9 build. Let me just say WOW. With moderate to heavy use I was getting between 32-40 hours of battery life. The battery indicator would hit 0% and didn't shut done till battery died. On average after 12-18 hours I would hit 0% and would remain there till the 32-40 hour mark. This was done with Joker's kernel that comes installed with CM9. I started test on 3.3 and ended test on 4.0.
If you are rooted and unlocked I would highly recommend buying this bundle as you will see and increase in battery life.
MIUI CM9:
So after testing on Joker's CM9 I decided to give MIUI a try. Bettary life was ok. On average I got 12-24 hours of battery life on MIUI with moderate to heavy use. Still better then stock but not as impressive as Joker's CM9. Same thing as Joker's CM9 with battery hitting 0% and remaining there till battery died. Most of the time I hit 0% around the 8 hour mark and remained there till the 12-24 hour mark.
RECAP:
Remeber I did multiple battery calibrations on battery after it was full charged and after every ROM flash. I used only the kernels that the ROMS come with. On stock I don't recommend buying this bundle but if you are rooted and unlocked I recommend buying as you will she an increase in battery life. Your battery will not read properly on any ROM. If this review helps you please don't forget the thanks button. Happy Mopohing everyone.
Review
I have this battery bundle for about 4 months. Been doing some extensive testing on it since then. I am a heavy user and I like everything on the max settings. Max brightness to leaving Wifi, bluetooth, and streaming music for over 8 hours a day.
Before I tried testing it, I had charged it on the included charger for over 8 hours. Each battery. I ran it down until the phone shut off and then swapped out the batteries using the included charger to charge them. I did a Full Cycle Charge about 5 times before I decided to power house them.
Natural Things
Battery became hot when phone became hot.
Battery door is very cheap and is broken. Glad it comes with 2 of them
No matter what ROM and Battery Mod I ran or flashed, the battery indicator displayed 1% for several hours.
No Battery calibration apps worked at all.
I only used the stock in my car for emergency backup when the batteries did die.
Usage
I get about 8 - 12 hours of heavy heavy usage. When I'm not at work or school, (my day's off), I am on my phone all day. I connect to WiFi and brightness is maxed. I stream music the entire time I drive. I use my navigation at least for 30 minutes a day. I am connected to Bluetooth with maximum sound coming from the phone and moderate on the headphones.
I get about 12 - 24 hours of moderate usage. When I'm at school or work, I am on my phone every so often without messing with any settings. I connect to WiFi and brightness is maxed. I stream music the entire time I drive. I use my navigation at least for 30 minutes a day. I am connected to Bluetooth with maximum sound coming from the phone and moderate on the headphones.
Suggestions
I recommend this battery package if you want to use your phone and not be too worried about it dying ever. I swap the batteries out when they die and I haven't seen any problems with it besides the battery indicator and the occasional heating of the phone and battery.
So that's my review on this battery pack. In short, buy it.
Yea. It is massive. Comes with extended battery door.

Weirded out battery issue

Check this out boys and girls. Approximately 2 months ago I got a new stock battery to replace the original that was causing reboots, which then showed the battery level at 0.
Started using the new battery and the same thing started last week. Reboot, low battery even when it was recently fully charged.
So I put the original in which hadn't been used in 2 months. Blast a full charge, wipe stats. And sure as ****, it works fine.
I almost wonder if it sitting for a spell and not being charged "refreshes" or replenished the life?
I'll keep you updated but thought it was weird.

There's something definitely fishy with the amaze. I had 2 of them, and I'd swap batteries with different charges, say one had 80% and one had 40%. After swapping the one amaze would read close to what the other did, within a couple percent, and the other one was way off, like 30% higher, and it would die way before reaching zero. Funny thing it was only the one that did that with a battery swap, so the amaze is just weird when it comes to reading the battery charge.

Yep same here for me. My battery stats are honky all the time and its frustrating. Sometimes when its at 20 percent I take the battery out then put it back in and goes up to 54 percent ...what gives?

It's not jstu the stats Nelly. It's the overall performance and the intermittent shut offs. Since putting the "old" battery back in I can report that after 1 week I have had zero shut offs. Battery is giving me about 7 hours on heavy usage.
Cant figure it out.
Definitely leaves me scratching my head at times.
I just started having a similar issue.
For example, I would be checking my email, or checking facebook, then BAM! Phone reboots/shuts off. The battery icon says I have 47% but in ext4 i have 85%. Wipe battery stats in ext4, works fine for like 30min. Same **** starts again.
Going through this everyday since 3days ago.
using 8.6.12 energy rom

Have you contacted HTC. Call HTC direct and explain the issue. Ask them to send you a replacement battery. Stay calm, nice and let them know you need a new battery. They will ask you for a credit card to put on file and will tell you to return the old battery. If you dont have a cc ask them to speak with a suprevisor. They can waive the CC requirement if you are polite and don't get into a shouting match. As far as my battery, i am back to my original and it seems to be doing good still. I did have one reboot last week. But that's about it.

Well, you can stop wiping battery stats as a step, since it does nothing.. tons of info out there to show this is 100% fact https://www.google.com/search?q=wiping+battery+stats+does+nothing
If the engineer who helped design android isn't a good source, not sure who is.
As for the accuracy of reading the battery, pretty sure everyone has this issue.. someone recently posted something about the sensor being low quality, but who knows.
Apart from having reboots(which is an issue likely unrelated to battery except for maybe the OP), if you know your battery has 20%, but after a reboot it says you have more/less.. why does this matter, you know you have 20% worth of life left.
As for the OP, you may want to try flashing the stock RUU as there may be a serious problem with your system files, and flashing the RUU in the bootloader is the quickest way to know that EVERYTHING has flashed properly. Instructions in the bible in my signature.

It matters to me. A few times the battery icon/widget says 0 and the phone shuts off. I use the Vol and Power to get into recovery, and it says 20% or whatever it may be. Sure, I know it has 20%, but the OS detects it at 0 and shuts off.
I just remembered, a day or two before my initial post, my battery became super hot. I remember this because, I had the phone in my pocket, and it got really hot. Battery monitor widget reported the temp at 129 deg F. I guess the battery is shot.
I already ordered 2 anker batteries w/the wall charger.

I had the same issue about a month ago. Since receiving my Ankers no problems at all. On top of that 18-24 hours on a single battery is a pretty amazing perk for a $25 purchase

Just got my ankers in last night. Gonna test for the next few days. I'll post my results
EDIT: 9.05.12 0250hrs
Been testing out the batteries extensively. OC'ing, flashing roms, backing and restoring in ext4, netflix, games, and LOTS of data lol. No random shutoffs as of yet.
I'm on Bulletproof 2.5 and after unplugging my Amaze, it stays at 100% (or whatever % i unplugged it at) for 10-30 minutes then my battery goes down by 2% increments and sometimes it hangs around at a random % for about 15 minutes and then continues its 2% increments again. Does any one have a similar issue? Is there a fix since wiping battstats does nothing.

Me and my wife have both an amaze. Her phone started to do the same thing and a couple of weeks after hers mine started. Since I'm an electronic technician I knew there has to be a problem with the connection on the battery. After inspecting the batteries I noticed that the four connections on both batteries had deep marks on them. To fix them, I used a small flat screwdriver and using the flat side scratched the four connections until the deep marks where mostly gone. It's been 3 months since I did that on both batteries and the problem hasn't come back. FYI the two connections on both ends are the + and - and the ones in the center are used for reading the battery status. Hope this help those with this annoying problem.

Battery skips %.

Hello!
Lately I've been suffering from a battery problem, I will explain what happens.
I charge my phone completely and then I start using it... when it hits 30% left, the next drop is 20 instead of 29%. For example... If it takes 3 minutes to go down from 84% to 83%... that's the same time it takes from 30% to 20%.
It also happens when it hits 14%, instead of dropping to 13% it drops to 4%.
How can I fix this? I've been told that it's an issue of flashing too many ROM's
Actual ROM; Carbon 1.7 Stable version
Previous ROM: D-WIZ JBX.
P.S: I've been facing this issue for months now, I think it started with D-WIZ.
Thanks
I am also having these problems yesterday i flashed aokp rom it all went well but today it was showing 70% and as soon as i put the mobile data on it showed 49%

I've had the same problem and I cannot seem to find a solution. My battery also INCREASES from about 80% to 100 when I'm charging an almost dead battery
Why don't you guys calibrate your battery once . Let me know if it works or not . If not then ill look out for something else.
Please hit the thanks  if i ever helped ya !!
How old is your phone.?
Its common for old batteries to incorrectly display battery data. This simply happens because the battd daemon uses the estimation based on checkpoints and voltage of the battery. When the battery gets old, the actual charge stored is less than the reported value and results in wrong calculation by battd.
If your device is pretty old, it is in a sense normal. However if its new then it might be some problem.
PS: The battery calibration is a myth! The /data/system/batterystats.bin file is not related to battery charge/life/status (exactly as Google devs stated earlier).
In case of our Razr, charge the battery to 100% and keep charging for few hours after that. Then disconnect it battd will display correct 99%. That's all you need when changing ROMs or batteries! Do not waste your time on "battery calibration"!

Well my razr is almost 10 months old!
So there is no way to repair it? :\

What I usually when I switch ROMs is I will both download battery calibration, and keep the charge at 100% for a couple of hours after. That way there is no doubt that it truly is at 100%, and Battery Calibration can do the job well hope this helps!

I wouldn't consider it very old. I think in your case it can be fixed. There were some files that needed to be replaced. don't remember it exactly but will look into it.
Mine does this to. Not sure if there are dead battery cells or if its associated with rom.
Having this issue also calibrate don't help me unless I'm doing it wrong..... RAZR maxx
