Broken Gorilla Glass Screen - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

Hey guys, I accidentally dropped my SGA and the screen cracked. It's not THAT bad, but since it has Gorilla Glass I want to know if it's repairable or what. Tomorrow, I'm going over my carrier's attention center to see if there's anything they can do about it. Any thoughts?

They can replace it. Oddly gorilla glass is really scratch resistant but super brittle.

Aw man, are you serious? I thought it was unbreakable or something. And here I was going to make some tests on mine. Lmao thanks for the heads up xD

Ha ha. I hope they do fix it. 'Cause if not, I'm gonna buy a new smartphone. It wouldn't be the SGA, it had to be better. Anyway, back to topic, it seems like Gorilla Glass is TEH BRITTLE when it comes to falls. Just visit the Dell Streak forums, lol.

Told ya! Anyway, I really want to repair my phone or I'll get another one :/

http://www.ebay.com/itm/TOUCH-SCREE...ltDomain_0&hash=item25688dbcbd#ht_1864wt_1045

I've just replaced that on mine, took about 30 mins and cost me £11

I also found this place:
http://www.tvc-mall.com/user/product.asp?skey=samsung+galaxy+ace&type=all&btn_search=
With a lot of items for the SGA, included the digitizer. So it's only the digitizer I will need?

I ordered digitiser, housing and screen (as mine had been run over by a car!!!) only the digitiser and housing needed replacing (only cos the camera lens had been scratched) screen was 100% perfect once I took the digitiser off. Have replied to your message, good luck

My girlfriend scratched hers EASILY! She put it in her pocket and took her ring off and put it in the smae and got a scratch down the screen

Supposedly, he used this guide:
http://erkinson.altervista.org/en/samsung-galaxy-ace-smontaggio-sostituzione-display-e-touchscreen/
Anyone can confirm that is safe before I even try to do it?

Did anyone remove shatterproof sheet before applying screen protector?

For me, I put that on top of the shatterproof sheet.

Correct. Its not a "shatter proof" sheet but a factory installed screen protector. There's an extra screen protector included on some markets.

Is that so? I heard that almost every Sony (Ericsson) device comes with the pre-applied shatter proof sheet and it takes some force to remove it. I might be wrong anyway.

So is it worth putting the included screen protector on top of the fitted one or is that just overkill?

No need, the one that is already applied is more than enough. Just keep it as a spare.
I dont think the screen responds as good if you put another on top
Ok thanks for the input on this, just going to stick with the factory fitted one

Got mine from O2, UK. All I had was a cloudy screen film with descriptions on. I had to remove it to see the screen properly and applied the provided screen protector, and have two irritating bubbles! Would be nicer if they were all fixed on from factory. Although looking back at it, it seems like there is another layer below that - visible on left side only mainly because the screen protector isn't in perfect alignment. Bottom layer seems like it's thin piece of glass rather that plastic.
Anyone has the same as me?
I put it onto the sheet, and it works quite fine. Double protection

Has anyone removed the factory fitted protector? I generally don't use protection (hurr) and think this one just attracts more muck than anything. I've never had a problem with scratching screens so I'm not convinced it's necessary in my case.
So if anyone has removed it, is it glass? Is it difficult to remove? Was it a terrible idea?

I bought a pretty expensive martin fields screen protector because I'm very scared to damage the display or ruin the quality with a cheap dealextreme screen protector.
Do you suggest I use the pre applied screen protector until there are scratches on it, pull it off with force and apply the martin fields on the glass or do i put on the martin fields screen protector straight on the pre applied one?
i heard that the pre applied one is not designed to be taken off... so i'm not really sure

Cracked screen

Hi All,
I have dropped my phone several times and nothing never happened until yesterday when it fell out of my pocket. Now front glass has a nice crack near home button, is it possible to replace just the front glass like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Front-Glass-LCD-and-touch-screen-not-included-Samsung-Galaxy-S2-S-2-i9100-B-/280836834753?pt=UK_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item41632e05c1#ht_1897wt_1163
Or do I have to buy LCD+digitizer
no one knows?
If you used the search or a Google search or even read the previous posts with the same topic you might know .

Replacing rear camera pod/glass?

anyone know how to replace the evo 3d's rear camera glass? mine is pretty scuffed up and scratched and found a replacement part on ebay. and yes i have looked up the teardown videos on youtube but none explain how to take the old glass off. is it just glued on? would it just pop off? im trying to do this on my own if i can without taking it to the cell repair place. thanks.
You mean the glass that covers the lens? If so, i once took mine apart on my desire and that was kinda glued on so i'd only imagine its not too different here.
Yes the glass that covers the lens

Replacing Gorilla Glass from old lcd?

Hey all,
The Gorilla Glass on my Streak cracked but the lcd underneath still works. I have a old Streak lcd where the lcd is broken but the glass is fine. Does anyone know if I can remove the glass from the old broken lcd and replace the cracked glass on the working LCD?
Does it have to glued down, will the digitized get frazzled if I try to take the glass off?
Thanks for your help.
You cannot separate the glass from the LCD. The glue used to put the two together is too strong to do that without damaging both digitizer and LCD.
yeah... it really takes skill to replace it though you need guts to do it...
That's what I figured, but it doesn't hurt to check.
Thanks guys!

Two days and a broken screen.

I have had so many Samsung phones, and I have dropped all of them in so many ways and have never had a broken screen. I got my S5 on Thursday and got a case right away. Today my phone fell face down from my chair like 12 inches high. To my disappointment, my phone got a crack on the screen from side to side. So much for that gorilla 3 screen.
Sent from my SM-G900T using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Ouch, you have a picture of the crack? Supposedly the thicker bezel of the s5 vs the s4 helps against screen cracks.

Ouch, that sucks, is the touch screen affected by the Crack in that area?
Sent from my SGH-I337M using Tapatalk
It's crazy cause I have dropped phones from a huge distance and been okay and then other times I have dropped them from a couple feet and they broke. It's all in how they land but that is why I have purchased a glass screen protector for all of my latest devices cause it's a small price to pay to know that your phone screen will make it through a drop. Sorry to hear though! It sucks royally! Good luck to ya...
Everything works. It just sucks it happened like that; in a case and from just a mere 12 inches high.

I feel bad for you - I have had that happen with other phones and I know that sinking feeling you get in your stomach as soon as you realize the screen is cracked - I am hoping you had insurance?
That really sucks, sorry to hear about your phone. Looks like I'll be investing in another tempered glass screen protector. They really do help against cracks. I dropped my note 3 from about 4 feet and the screen protector shattered, but my screen was untouched. I was amazed.
Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk
I'll get in touch with T-Mobile and find out my options. All I know is that I thought I did the right thing, got a case right away, but it didn't help.

Ouch! So sorry to hear this, man. Best of luck. I hope you can work them for a replacement.
Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk
Bummer man, all in how it lands, even with a case there's always a chance that the shock will hit just right (or wrong). I don't even bother with cases anymore because I always see people with their shattered phone screens in big cases. I think cases are probably the best for avoiding nicks to the body of the phone, but most are not gonna prevent a cracked screen.
i think if you didn't have the case, the screen would have shattered to an extent of being unusable, so it could have been worst. Typically, decent cases protect small falls due to the case's lip. I guess you were very unlucky.

Well you can still purchase insurance or a extended warranty. Also, if you purchased the phone with a premium credit card, your credit card company will fix it for you for free.
All of the broken screen threads blame the phone, and it always seems to be some ridiculous drop. "I dropped my phone two inches onto a pile of cotton balls and unicorn fur...screen shattered".
Gorilla glass is not break resistant, it is scratch resistant. It sucks that your screen is broken, but in no way is it Corning's or Samsung's fault.

Been SO curious about the glass screen protectors. you like them? I have always used the PET (hard plastic ones not the 3m film) and think they are great. Does the glass ones scratch less than the PET film ones?
OP, that really sucks man! However, If you dont want to use insurance (its probably about a $150 deductible) if you can live with it for a couple weeks, replacement glass should start popping up on ebay and such. I have replaced glass for many friends on a lot of different phones and its SUPER easy. You can usually buy a kit with the tools you need and everything for less than $20. :good:

Yes and they last for a very long time assuming you don';t chip the glass and you put it on properly. I had mine on for almost a year without any issues on the M7.
