[Q] Getting Ad-Hoc wifi to work - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi folks,
I purchased a Tab 8.9 in the US, and I've rooted it using mramirezusa's guide. I now need to get it working with ad-hoc networks so I can tether it to my Galaxy S2. I gather that I need to replace the wpa_supplicant file to enable this.
Most of the guides I have seen refer to the Tab 10.1 (and v), so my main question is really, what particular guide have any of the 8.9 owners here used themselves successfully? I saw this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1083182&page=4 and on this page I particularly like the sound of the instructions on post 35 (as it avoids faffing with adb which I've never used before!). The only thing that I'm not sure of is WHAT wpa_supplicant file to use. In other words, are there different versions? Would the version attached to that thread be fine to use for the 8.9?
Many thanks for your help!
EDIT: Just seen that the 10.1 forum has a thread for 8.9 questions. I'll also look in there to see if anyone has the same question.

look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1309677

Thanks for taking the time to answer, but I don't want to go down the ROM route just yet, until we have nandroid backup available. I'll feel more comfortable just dealing with the wpa_supplicant file for now. Anyone got any further pointers to my original questions?
Cheers.

Actually, I only looked at the first few words and I saw the word ROM, and I ran away haha. But looking again it seems it's not a ROM at all. Can you clarify exactly what it is?? And is the OP saying that by applying this zip file all of those listed APKs will be automatically removed? As there's actually things in that list that I would like to keep...
Alternatively, if someone can direct me to a wpa_supplicant file they know works with the 8.9, then I'd be happy to take a punt with the instructions in the thread I mentioned in my first post. Ta.

that's no rom. take a look in the zip and you will find a wpa_supplicant file you can apply

So I can just extract the file from that zip and use it for my shenannigans? Excellent! Thanks very much for your help!

Hello! In need of some assistance please.

Hey guys.
I own an HTC HD2 and noticed that an an app was created to install the Android operating system on this phone. I downloaded the one posted on this sites main page, however, I am clueless as to how to install this. I dragged the following files into my SD and still nothing when I try to run the setup.xml file:
_setup.xml
DROIDB~1.000
DROIDB~1.001
I don't like Windows Mobile and always thought the Android OS looked slick and nice. I apologize if I am breaking any forum rules or this is in the FAQ, but this is a large, confusing forum for me to understand. To anyone that helps me out here, you have a kind soul!
Thanks.
So did you even bother to read any of the thread you grabbed the files from? Most will have instruction on how to install and what needs to be done to make it run.
Try reading this entire post. Pay particular attention to the part that say " >INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR DIFFERENT BUILDS< " it might help out.
why was this not posted in the android section.

2. is it easy to root?

I got my SGT-10.1 Wifi for Christmas and I am loving it. I have a pre-alpha CM9 rom running on it. It's ok, but definitely needs work to make it a daily driver.
As far as rooting, it was a fairly simple process if you have some experience, but read, read, read everything and follow the directions exactly. In my reading of threads, most people who had issues didn't follow the directions very well.
I don't have much experience sharing files on a windows system. I use dropbox or transfer files through usb. Let me know if you find a way to share files with windows.

1. It does support CyanogenMod, but i would stick to Task's rom till there are some stable ones out there
2. It's quit easy to root just follow this thread and ya'll be fine http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1239185
3. Dropbox would be the best option for sharing files between other devices and your tab
Overcome 10.1 Series v2.3.x works fine for me.
There are several Apps to access SMB/CIFS Shares over Wlan. I recommend 'File Manager HD'.
I think there are Apps who install a SMB Server on Android. Did not tested this...

I am not exactly sure what you mean by "sharing files" but there are a number of options. Dropbox, Minus and other similar services store files in the cloud, making them accessable from other devices.
If you want to be able to view your SD Drive on a PC with drag and drop capabilities, take a look at Samba File Sharing or Airdroid. Both allow you to easily move files back and forth.
I am sure that there are other apps that you can use as well. These work great for me.

[Q] CSC/Modem Backup and Firmware Versions

Mods can we please close. I have posted in the wrong sub forum.

Hey guys,
I've been doing some reading and trying to work out the best way to dump a copy of my CSC so that if I flash in a new custom rom from another country that has JB that I can then load in my original CSC to get the settings back.
I've seen this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1106502
But one of the first things it says to look for CSCFiles.txt doesn't exist on my S3.
Is there a better method for backing this up? Additionally would like to backup my modem just to be 100% sure so ran through another thread to backup the modem (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1705650) but the backup image came out significantly larger than the other modem files I have downloaded and the MD5 doesn't match what is supposedly the same version modem.
And one more question, I found some time ago a really good thread explaining the firmware versions as there is B firmware and C if I recall correctly and the relation of these to the modems and why flashing the wrong one can have issues. I haven't been able to locate that thread again to bookmark it, if anyone can point me in the direction of this it'd be awesome.

3 Days on the Internet? All you had to do is go into the Development section and look at my Repo thread or N00b's bible thread. They are in either one and both are stickied at the top.
***These are only for the SGH-t959 and not the t959V. How do you know which is which? Go into Settings>About Phone and see there or of you have the V version, you will have a front facing camera. If you do have the 959V, then you cannot flash these in Odin.
Let me know if either downloads don work for some reason and I will reupload to my Repo thread. Just quote me and I will get the notification. Good luck.

[Q] Galaxy S2 supersu?

Hello everybody!
As I am well aware this topic might have already been discussed, I also apologize for posting this again.
I am not too experienced with rooting, flashing phones and so on. All I look for is to install supersu on a Galaxy S2 (gt-i9100) so that I can move a few apps in system.
Browsing for a few hours I have found a few one-click methods and also a lot of complicated ones. The thing is I do not need to flash the ROM or change the kernel, I just want supersu to work, that's it!
So far, the link I have found the closest to my requirement is the one on ibitimes link that says it's using the framawork app.
The guy who posted this says that it is taken from this site but I do not seem to find details on it.
I do not necessarily want to use it especially, I just look for a similar method. Please give me some suggestions if you could.
Best regards,
Vlad Nitu
