[Q] New contacts not syncying with Google account - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I have trouble getting new contacts that I add to my phone to sync with my Google account. I've lost quite a few new numbers that I've put into my phone, not knowing that it hasn't synced to my Google account, I flash a new ROM and restore contacts from my account only to find out that I'm missing that person's number . I have "Sync Contacts" checked in my Google account settings and I make sure the contact is assigned to a group. Even with a force sync within the contacts app and my google account settings doesn't bring the newly entered contact over. Anybody else experience this or have a work around?

Do you have your phone set to save new contacts to google?
Contacts > Menu > Settings > Save new contacts to

edit:
post above mine is the way to go....

It worked! Thank you so much. Now do you have to do this every single time? Seems counter productive to having auto sync features with your google account if you have to do this every time you add somebody.
edit: settings was set to "Save to phone" Why did I not even think of this! Thanks again

Nope, that is the default setting for all contacts. Set it once and you should be good. However, I would double check it after re-flashing ROMs and such, just in case.

I would set that setting to 'Always ask'. This setting will be applied whenever you add a new contact. The default is 'Phone' which does not sync with Google. If you have Exchange server account, you will see exchange contact as well.
So, each contacts belongs to a specific contact provider: Phone, SIM card, Google, Exchange account or any other account types you installed. Only the contacts that belongs to a that contact provider will be synced with that provider. Phone and SIM card contacts stays on the phone or SIM card, never synced with any cloud services.

[Q] Google Contacts

Where are the Google contacts stored?
The only place I can see them is when I am creating a message and tap add contact. There seems to be all the contacts from my Gmail account many of which do not have phone numbers and some of which I wouldn't want certain family members to see.
I have tried every setting in contacts and accounts I can find but no luck. I have cleaned up my Gmail account contacts and did a sync hoping that would over write them but no luck.
Any help is appreciated.

Google Contacts are stored on your phone and Google server if I am not wrong.
Regards.
By default Gmail adds anyone you email to your contacts. This used to be so annoying to most people.
Sign into Gmail on computer, go to settings, general, "create contacts for auto-complete" and check off "I'll add contacts myself".
Now go to your Contacts and start deleting the ones you don't want.
As for where they are stored, they are stored on Google's servers and not necessarily on your phone. Any changes you make either on your phone or via the web are pushed and synced I'm real time.

I know they are stored on the phone and gmail account but where on the phone??
Can you see all the contacts when you hit the contacts tab in the phone menu?
If not then from within contacts Menu, More, Display Options and select the google contacts, under that there is a few options of what to display.
Why not try this last resort, remove your Google account on the phone and add it again.

You are the man.
Yep need google contacts on in order to see them in Contacts. Then delete them and turn off google contacts again.
Now I can rest easy.
Thank you very much
No problem, glad to help, found out the hard way too!
Feel free to hit the Thanks button.
How to get contacts autofill in gmail
Hi,
I use viewsonic tablet with android 2.2 running. I have a gmail application installed . Whenever I try to send a new email or take a picture and want to send through gmail instantaneously, I get up to emal "To " field. In there it expects me to type the whole email address again. This is even true if I want to send it to my own gmail id. I mean to say that autofill of email addresses doesn't work. All my contacts is synched with gmail account and that show all the contacts which is available through my email account.
Is there a way to get around and get this autofill option enabled?
Thanks
Ravi

[Q] I can't see all contacts by default?

Recently I've noticed some strange behaviour regarding my contacts.
first I save a contact by selecting new contact in the contacts menu.
Then I chose an account under which I want to create the contact.
I never chose phone-only and always sync to the same account, lets call this account 1.
After I save the contact details the contact does not appear in my contact list.
This contact will neither appear in the contacts of account 1 when I log into Google and look at my contacts.
When I search a certain contact name in my phone it says "Contact not found" below which it gives me the option to "Search all contacts".
If I press this option it will show me all the contact information just like I stored it.
I tried searching in other accounts beside account 1 that I could choose when storing the contact but that yielded no results either.
My questions are:
1 Where the **** does my phone store these contacts?? :S
2 Why can't I see them when I log onto Google?
3 How can I get them to display normally under contacts? (and in my Google account contacts)
Additional information:
I run a CM7 NAND-ROM (I think by HyperDroid) on a 512MB version of the HTC LEO
I mainly connect to the internet through Wi-Fi because I'm currently using a pre-paid subscription.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Sync the Contacts with Google Contacts

I have a work phone and a personal phone. The work phone is registered with my work gmail email address and my personal phone with my personal gmail address. I would like to share my personal Google Contacts with both work and personal phone. Can someone advise me how to configure my Android phone v 4.0.4 to accomplish it.
Once I set up, can I edit the existing contacts and add any new contact on my any phone and automatically update the Google Contacts. I want to make Google Contacts as a central address book. Thanks!
I haven't tried this myself, but I believe you can add your personal Google account to your work phone (so two google accounts in your work phone). On your work phone, go to Settings -> Accounts & sync -> Add Account -> Google -> Existing -> put your personal gmail account.
If that works, then you should be able to access both personal and work contacts on your work phone. If you modify contacts on your personal account from work phone, the change will automatically sync with your personal phone as well.
Give that a go, and I hope that helps :fingers-crossed:

[Q] Contacts keep syncing eventhough it is deactivated

First up: I do not want to sync my contacts with Google.
For an unknown reason my mobile keeps synchronizing my personal address book with Google. Even worse: Somehow I get a lot of crap contacts, even empty or just with an email. Most of my contacts are 2-3 times in my address book and I have no idea where to look for the problem.
I changed /Settings/Accounts/Google Account #1 & #2/ > untick "Contacts", when I first set up my system (SlimROM 9.0).
Usually I sync my address book manually using MyPhoneExplorer. I have Xposed/Xprivacy installed to block many apps from reading my contacts. Hangouts is installed but since its a Google app I presume, that it accepts my setting to not sync contacts plus I didn't find any settings in the app.
I checked Gmail-Accounts online and unticked the "Automatically add contacts to address book when answering an email", after I first saw that something went wrong. All my contacts where online but only in one account. I deleted all contacts from Gmail online and from my phone, checked all settings again and copied over my contacts with MyPhoneExplorer.
After a while all crap contacs where back and synced with Gmail online.
What should I do to prevend this from happening, ignoring the fact that now it wouldn't REALLY matter anymore since Google got what I didn't want them to get: Personal information about my friends and colleagues who didn't agree to that?

Contact storage...no option for google sync in default contact editor. Big BUG !!

Dont know if anybody paid attention to this but there is no option for linking a contact to google account. The newly created contact is added only to as local phone contact and not as google contact. This creates a big problem for people with multiple devices as information does not sync across.
I had installed google contacts app but still this is just a workaround and not a right way. This is big deal breaker for me.
How is it working for you ??
As I know currently if you save contact at Dial Pad, it will automatically go to LeEco Account contact, and you cannot choose where it goes to. if you want, you need to open Contacts, choose gmail account, then add contact there, then it will be synced to Gmail account. A bit troublesome but no choice for the moment.

With the released cm13 Port with included gapps it works as it should.
Actually just find out that you can just change the Account to google when add contact, and all are fine. Just that you cannot change the default to Gmail contact only.
With me it was the "Google contacts sync" that was missing. You have to install this one, either by the "google installer" app, or by searching the correct apk version, since not all versions wil work with your OS
