If you have gtalk voice and video post here! - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm aware that there are root methods of getting this on your phone, but there are a lot of people who do not desire to root. If you have any version of a stock rom that has voice and video chat in google talk please specify which version you are running on.
My dad has it and he is on 2.3.3 baseband version xxkg1 and kernel version xwkg1
This confused me as I thought it came with 2.3.4, meanwhile I am on 2.3.5 and I don't have it.

Gtalk Video/Chat
Why didnt you just do a google search for this app. U will find a xda thread that has the apk available for download.
Google is your friend..

spot the noob??
original android development? close thread please mods..

Maybe it needs to be moved then... I'm not sure why people here are so rude sometimes. I figured that it should go here because people are always asking this question when intratech releases a new official firmware. So I put it here, that way people see it.
And I did google it... I found root only methods of course since it is a system file. This is for people who DO NOT want to root. Not sure how that message wasn't conveyed.

I rest my case, and close this thread.

[Q] Noob - Where to Start

Hiya guys,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 that I got this week. Im finding the phone is brilliant to use at the moment and works very well. It's alot better for me to use this device that it was when I had my previous phone which was an iPhone (don't shoot me)...
Anyway here we are. I've had the phone 4 days and i'm wanting to root it. The main reason for this is that I hate bloatwear. Samsung have filled it with all their own specific software that they find useful and I don't want that. All I want is a lovely OS with no Samsung to worry about etc.
Right a little about what i'm wanting. Ok so the phone is a Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100. The andoid version is 2.3.4, the Baseband is I9100XXKI1 and the Build is GINGERBREAD.
Im basically wanting to install the exact same version of Gingerbread but without all the bloatwear. Is this possible? Im completely new to this so any guides and tutorials that you can point me to would be brilliant. Is there anything I should be wary of when rooting my phone etc.
I have been looking around on the net and from what I can see Cyanogen M7 seems to be the same version as what im on now other than you don't get the touchwiz.
Any help would be brilliant on where to start.
If there are any questions then please ask.
Regards,
Just freeze the bloat yourself, rather than trying to find a ROM with it removed.
Root via zergRush, freeze bloat with one of the apps on the market.
However, if you do go down the CM7 route, just follow the instructions on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1176411
Other things to look out for. If any instructions are telling you to make a nandroid backup, do it, and back up your efs folder. You can use Hellcat's kTool for that.
Ok thanks for your post. So i guess my next question is What is Rooting and what does it actually do to your phone?
Do I need to root my phone in order to install new Roms??
Also the link to the M7 *Nightly* release you gave me. Is that stable? I read on their forums that I should only look at installing their *Stable* release and be wary of their *Nightly* release as its still buggy.
Since your first post said you were wanting to root, I kinda thought you'd know why. Bad assumption on my part, I know.
Anyway, before you flood the place with more questions, have a read for a while.
FAQS/Guide/Additional Info For Rooting S2 - High level summary
[FAQ] GT-i9100 Galaxy S II FAQ thread
Also, there is no so called "stable" CM7 build for the Samsung Galaxy S II.
Hi again.
Ok so I've had a read through the links provided to me and Im positive i want to root my device so that i can install new roms and unlock the phone and such. So next then can someone suggest what method i should do next. could someone also tell me what cf-root and clockworkmod is? Im confused as to what these are.
Regards
CF will give you root and clockwork, you can then reboot into clockwork and flash roms. Just make sure you read everything thoroughly and be sure to avoid the repartition option in odin.

Thanks but could you explain to me what they both do? Im assuming that its better to use cf-root as it allows you to install roms also...
Love spoon feeding eh?

[Q] Questions on Firmware Updating, Rooting and Removing Widgets

Hey guys just got my i9100 last night and im ready to root the phone.
However one guide I read said its best to have the latest firmware installed http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...hlight=CF+Root
Currently I have 2.3.4 baseband i9100uhkg4
Kernel [email protected] #2
build number gingerbread.uhkg7
Im in Jamaica so I navigated to the Jamaican 2.3.6 version on page one of this thread but I was unable to download it because the links are down.
A few questions what region is my current firmware?
Also can I go ahead and root with my 2.3.4 version or is it really better to upgrade to 2.3.6.
Sorry if my question seem dumb its my first android I was using a N95 8gb for 4 years which I did hack to install unlimited apps so im not a newbie in terms of hacking phones.
Also I want to get rid of things like readers hub, social hub, accuwather, ap mobile news and yahoo finance.
After rooting what are the specific steps that need to be taken to freeze these apps. Ive read and read threads they speak about speaking or uninstalling but do not give the specific steps.
Thanks in advance for your help guys.

You require Titanium Pro to freeze apps .
All the information is in the Guides on the sticky thread .

Is it possible to change build number??

Not sure if I have this in the correct section, sorry if i dont and please move to correct if not.
i am running a rooted with locked bootloader verizon r800x Xperia play with a 0.88 build number. My question is can i get on the 0.42/0.56/.62 builds. Ive notice that almost everything is built around those numbers and with having a 0.88 build I'm not sure if i can flash any of the roms or mods and i dont wanna brick my phone. i found a generic 800i ftf file for 0.42 build, I'm just not sure if i can use flashtools and run it on my phone and have it work. can anyone help and point me in the right direction on if i can change that build number so i can play with my phone. if i cant use that file is there one out there that i can use and could anyone post link with what i need. thank you to all answers in advance. I have rooted my share of phones, but with every new phone comes with new experiences and questions.
Firstly, this definitely should go into Q&A. On topic, and pardon the pun, there's a topic about this in the general section, but can't exactly remember which... just browse through the forums and try to find it. It's something that goes like "R800x service attempt".

r800x have only update to android 2.3.3 and you cant have 0.42 and next cause its 2.3.4.
Next: r800x is cdma version of XPlay and r800i, r800at... are GSM so u cant flash ftf for them cause ur phone can brick
There are no (i think) roms and sth like this for r800x sry
USA has 4g, other countries have 3g so sry, blame service providers from your country

As others have said before, This belongs in Q&A. But, on topic
The 4.x versions (i.e. .42,.56,.62) builds are R800i specific, and while myself and a couple of others (i.e. 216Monster) have tried porting them, we run into the problem of "Baseband Unknown" (Meaning that we cannot get cellphone reception)
The only way to get a new build of android on the R800x is to unlock the bootloader, then CM 7/9 are stable, and Sony Beta/any thing else based off ics are less stable.
To root your phone, check my sig for the zergRush link.

Thanks for the info. I was looking forward to playing with all the, roms. And mods that were out for this phone, but I failed to do the researh I should have done, and seen there was more then one model. Verizon has really screwed all the r800x users. Again sorry for posting in the wrong place.

[Q] 2.3.3

I still have a sgs2 running on 2.3.3 can anyone help me to update it to 4.0.4 or even cm10.1?
Why open another thread? If you want to update, you're definitly not the first one who tries this. Doesn't this make you think there maybe are other people who've asked this or even descriped this in other threads? Search and read, that's the best thing you can do.

[HELP]How to go back to official ICS?

I bought my S2 with official ICS 4.0.4 in it and I wanted to try Jelly bean so I flashed XXLSJ with odin, i replaced the PDA, PHONE and CSC..
I don't like it and I want to go back to official... Can somebody give me the latest official ICS? I have been searching for hours here, found one that has only the PDA file... phone won't boot with it...
Have you tried the FIRST post of Original Android developemnet section? either way: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487
choose the one you had before and it should work out.
Regards.
Just give me the link to the latest one that can be updated with Kies.

Firstly, ever thought about saying "please" instead of just demanding? This isnt your personal tech support site, its a community of smartphone/tablet enthusiasts and developers.
Second, How do you expect anybody to be able to link you when you dont even give such basic info like what model your actual S2 device is?
Third, Rule #1 of xda rules says you should use search before creating topics as its extremely likely you topic has already been created so no need to be re-created and that is the case here. If you had searched you would find the topics that have the stock carrier roms or people linking to http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3.
In future please respect XDA and use search and have courtesy when asking for help instead of demanding it.
