App With Reminders - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to create an app where users add an expiration date and then the app will give them a reminder before the expiration date. I want to have the ability to remind people up to 30 days in advance and have expiration dates that could go up to 6 months in the future. Is using the AlarmManager the best mechanism for doing this? One thing I am concerned about is that in the AlarmManager specifications it says that reminders are lost if the device is powered off or rebooted, which could present a problem. Thoughts?
Thanks

[Q] Android "Dumb Phone"

Is anyone aware of a mod, ROM, app or other that would turn an older model (or even a newer) android "Smart Phone" into a "Dumb Phone"?
I'm looking for something that would be suitable for geriatric or developmentally disabled persons to use. One single home screen with 4 or 6 BIG icons. Scrolling pictures for contacts, tap to dial.
I have parents in their mid-eighties who are technology challenged, and a son with fairly severe cerebral palsy. All of them could use something like this.
I hope you can see where I'm going with this, just wondering if there's anything already out there, or, if not, if there's any interest in something like this.
BIG Launcher seems to fit the bill for what you're asking for, six buttons and no scrolling home screens.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=name.kunes.android.launcher.activity&hl=en The full version is a Paid app but there's also a free one.
Just get them a Nokia 3310,3210 or 5110

Automatic Information Capturing

I am in process of developing an application and I was wondering if there is a way to capture users information automatically. I am drawing up a spec of application functions that I am going to have a dev team produce so I do not have app dev skillsets. That being said...
My idea was that if an user downloads an application, starts it, and the app is automatically populated with the users' phone number, name, etc any basic information automatically. Google pairs the phone with specific accounts that store such information so the data is there. I am looking for a less intrusive way and more user friendly way of creating accounts rather than direct social media login integration.
Is this something that is viable? or is it against data laws? or not possible?
Please let me know if you know of any existing methods, or if you think it is even impossible.
THANKS! :highfive:

Thanks a lot! Now I will definitely not receive any feedback... How is this not a dev question... :silly:

New concept contacts app ?

(sorry if wrong section)
Looking at WinPhone 8 contacts app I feel envious.
It makes so much sense. You stop looking for people A-Z or last called. You look for them as per what they are for you.
So, Family / Work / Closer friends / outer friends.
Contact groups are there, sure, yet they are barely used. And quite unmeaningful.
Do you guys know of an android contact app able to be a one-stop hub for people ? Divided in groups, abe to sync with Google and G+ and to create (and maybe suggest a back-to-google-contacts update) "groups" also populated with social statuses and (tagged) photos ?
Otherwise, is this concept worth creating an app for any of yu (I'm not able to)
I use contact +

I was not sure since it's a mix question/wish for developers.
Thank you for helping me place the thread where it belongs

Major privacy concern

To make a long story short, I posted some info about an app, along with a Play Store link to that app in a post over at Android Central. Within 24 hours, the developer of that app commented in my thread, and his last post in that forum WAS A YEAR AGO.
Can someone please explain how this happened?

setting system profile

Anyone give me some pointers how to change android system profile (on htc m8 lineageos 14.1)?
I have a general purpose zooper widget and would like to display / set from there.
Have tried searching but keep getting links to tasker profiles.
Thanks

I don't have this device and though, I do understand your question, I'm just not completely sure about an answer for you.
Have you tried to post this question within the following Q&A thread or Official LineageOS thread that's specific to your device?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2897783

If your not receiving any responses from the above threads (within a reasonable amount of time... 7-10 +/- days) then you next best bet would be to post this question within one of the following General Q&A threads on the forum. You can even mention that your posted question went unanswered on the above threads so they will know that you had been unable to obtain any guidance from those appropriate threads.

Whoops, wrong thread :silly:
I wanted the tasker command to pull (and possibly set) the variable for Android system profile to pass to a zooper widget.
Would have made a bit more sense in the right forum
Will search and repost elsewhere...
