New HTC Rezound - HTC Rezound

So, the HTC Rezound (aka Vigor is out). The Phone has a 720p 4.3 inch SLCD which produces very crisp and high pixel density impressions. It runs on 1.5 ghz dual core, 1 Gb, Beats enabled and has 32 GB memory.. 16Gb inbuilt and 16 Gb Sd card ( i say beats is non sense.).
The body design is a lot like the original Droid Incredible, with red trim, haptic navigation buttons and interior. When you take off the backplate of this phone, it’s all red.
and yes it has gingerbread with ics promised in 2012 early. The phone looks stunning.

I want one! Just got my thunderbolt a few months ago, wish I had waited..

I wish I could pre-order now. lol.
friends were saying that because it wont have ICS it will fail.. well with the promised ICS updrage less than 2 months after release, there is now no reason to choose the nexus over the rezound.
bedsides, i just had a 6 month stint with the droid charge by samsung, what a POS this phone is, its on ebay now, I cant wait to ship it away to some sap.

HTC and Verizon don't have a very good track record for keeping announced updates on time. Remember the eris?

no but I remember the droid incredible... (had it for a year) was always updated. My friend had a samsung captivate on att, which he bought after the Dinc had been out a few months, and I always had a more updated version of android. He switched to Verizon after the experience .
And with HTC and verizon publicly announcing their commitment to upgrade and update this device, It seems like a no brainer.
Are you suggesting that with the eris they said explicitly it would get 'X' updates and they never lived up to that?

You don't need to worry about the update schedule, that is what XDA is for. The Devs here will make the updates available for you before they are released to the public.

Can't wait to switch over to Verizon for this! US Cellular is terrible and their phone selection is poor.
Finally I can get a flagship phone for the same price as a midrange on US Cell

I just rooted my Evo which i have had for over a year and i'm back in love with it but, that being said I am looking for the next best thing. Is this it? Or do I hold my 150 rebate for something down the line?

No matter what or when you buy, there will be something better a month later.

If you have an Evo, you must be on Sprint. This is for Verizon. That said, if you are willing to switch, I would definitely get this.

Quad core won't really do anything to up the performance. It's just too much in my opinion. 2Ghz DC is really all we need.

plz god, let the phone finally be dust-proof

So...who's getting the SGSII?

As a Fascinate user, was planning on getting the Bionic as I was at first disapointed with Samsung's lack of support, issues, etc. But the screen, codecs, weight, and such all won me over, and I can't wait to get the SGSII. Hopefully its coming to Verizon with an Exynos processor and Mali GPU.....
How bout everyone else?

I think most of the people who have posted on SII subforum will be getting it.
Though if its delayed some might switch to a phone thats already out or wait and see what the iPhone5 brings to the table (which i will be doing if it doesnt come out this month or early May.
OMG OMG OMG...... so Excited

I am still not sure{using N1 for close to 14months now},will decide depending on how well HTC Sensation turns out{announcement might come on 12th April}
LG Optimus 2X{already available here & is surprisingly cheaper than SE Xperia Arc & Xperia Play} vs SGS 2 vs HTC Sensation will be my choices.But right now my first preference will be HTC Sensation{aka HTC Pyramid}
I can upgrade any time I want to, so I can't wait to buy it when it comes out! I was a bit disappointed with the Tegra2, so right now is a good time to see the other dual cores coming out.
Oh, and the fact that Galaxy phones are made in Korea makes me swell with pride, so that's another factor in buying the SGSII.

I was an early adopter for the original SGS and got slightly burnt by the annoying lag with Samsung's official ROM. Luckily there are some great people on XDA and a lot of effort has gone into creating a much better custom ROM.
Although everything about the SGS2 sounds great, I think I'll hang back by a month or two until I've ready the initial reviews and customer experiences (hopefully benefit from a reduced price from the original launch price).
I'm definitely getting one, to replace a rather old Sanyo SCP-8400. I've had the SGS2 on pre-order since March 18...
I've also preordered mine on Amazon.de. I trust the xda devs will come through, as they most often do.
Cant wait to buy SGS2..

Correct me if I'm wrong, but HTC Sensation specs aren't better than SGS2, even though it's been announced after SGS2... Where is the NFC, for example ? What's really unique in Sensation? SGS2 has some cool gyroscope functions, for example.
Ill certainly be getting this device WHEN its launched......

Nope... if we continue to wait for the next big thing in technology, how can we ever enjoy any of it? The evolution of phones is moving very fast... as soon as you get your hands on this new 1.4 ghz phone they will be releasing notes on the even newer 2ghz phone of the future.... I am excited to get my hands on this device and will hold on to it until my next upgrade is available, gives me something to look forward to without having to focus on each new thing out there!
There's already quad core phones coming out by q4 2011.

If the phone just came out buy it no need to wait especially if you have upgrades every year. If the phone has been out for more than 6 months then I'd look at what's out on the horizon.

Well I don't have yearly upgrades, and would like to have a phone that could potentially last for 22 months. Will the 3d be able to do that?

this is the most stupid tread ive seen so far
why dont you stay quiet and dont post anything like this???
I can agree that if we just keep waiting for the "NEXT BIG THING," we'll never really get a chance to enjoy what's now. Think of it this way, you have a phone that's less than a week old, so you're doing pretty good. Will this phone last for a while? Sure, I think it will. But this is coming from me, who just upgraded from a HERO. So, I think I can hold onto this phone until my next upgrade (1 year from June 24th.)
omg can u imagine how does the next Iphone will look??????????

I can say quite positively that you added nothing to this post, and only took away from it. Maybe it was not "smart" or "high quality", but you just decreased the intelligent level of the conversation. Thank you for that.
I agree with everyone. I am not a tech junkie, I don't have to have the best of the best. I am a graduate student in neurology. I also have a lot a bit of experience in computer programming. I actually used my Org Evo to interface with research equipment and analysis data. Well the software we use continues to advance and demands better phones. So I am just trying to future proof myself in that area. I am trying to make sure the phone's hardware is all that it is suppose to be. If my original evo was up to par, I would still be using that.
I believe that it is. I honestly believe, based off an in depth talk with a gentleman whose entire career is based on developing microchips like the one we see in our phones. He is adamant that the newest generation of qualcomm (spelling) processors are the best he has seen in a phone this far.
Anyway, that combined with the reputation HTC has, the 3vo seems like a great bet.
lol, this is the age old question for tech Buy something that just came out, or wait for something better coming out later
If you go with the attitude to wait, then why not wait forever and get nothing I mean lets say you hold off on the EVO-3D, and wait for the slightly better Galaxy S2, but don't get that the Nexus-4.0 will be even better than the Galaxy S2, but wait, the Nexus-4.0 will be trumped by the best yet Galaxy S3 due next spring per Samsung, but wait the Galaxy S3 will be outdone by the EVO-Three.
What if while waiting for the next best thing, you get killed in a car wreck tomorrow, thus never enjoying the cool tech we have right here, right now.
Oh yeah, the words "Future Proof" lol uh no such thing...
To the OP -
What people have said in this thread makes perfect sense. If you wait for THOSE phones there will be even better ones around the corner in the future too. So you would simply be right back in the same situation.
I can see the 3vo being the 2nd legit 22 month phone. the og Evo being the 1st.
Like others have said you can't keep waiting or you'll never get. As for a 1.4 dual. Meh what's it really going to do that your 1.2's can't do? well outside of increase your penis size in a pissing match. Heck thats about all the quad cores are going to do too.
phones are advancing too fast. there is hardly anything out there that will take full advantage of the dual core phones. i think getting the 3vo would be fine because it will take a bit before developers catch up with it and by then you'll be due for an upgrade.
will be returning evo 3D. Its no diff from EVO 4G besides the 3D and the dual core. waiting for samsung gs2 or Motorola Photon.

Yeah the QHD screen, the better form factor on the body of the phone, double the ram, 4 times the internal storage (this will matter a lot more when we have root and custom roms), the actual camera button, the newer build, second microphone for noise cancelling. You're right the Evo 4G had all of those.
only thing thats making me more and more want to return the phone is..
its not that I don't believe HTC will unlock the phone...
its how many good Dev's are we losing in the meantime?

I plan on getting one. Even though it's already a few months old, I feel like it's one of the most "future proof" of current phones on the market right now.
Things like Exynos CPU/GPU, 1 GB ram, NFC, effectively maximum speed HSPA+... My Captivate runs quite comfortable at 1.3 GHz w/ Cyanogenmod and still beats the pants off of any stock Android device currently available in the States. That's 2+ versions of Android ahead of what it launched with (2.1 Eclair), and a 30% overclock of what the stock chip came with. By similar logic, the GS2 should last through Ice Cream Sandwich and beyond...
The Note looks awesome but if I wait for it then something better will be right around the corner, besides, been sitting on this upgrade since July

I thought the Note wasn't an actual phone. But meant to be something in between a phone and a tablet. I get why it's awesome. The display resolution.
But I'll be picking up the AT&T SGSII when it comes out. Can always sell it later when something much better is released.
I will be getting it on or close as possible to Oct. 2nd I have waited this long and learned my lesson. I WON'T be waiting for the next best phone from attention after this one, I will fork out the cash for an unbranded phone. Maybe the prime or SGS3 IN the near future
Sent from My KickAss Captivated CM7 OC'd 1.5Ghz/Undervolted
I'll be getting it on launch day for sure. I was debating on waiting for the Nexus announcement but the likelihood of at&t seeing a nexus device near launch is slim to none. I know there have been hints dropped about it launching as both cdma and gsm but there is no concrete evidence. So just going by history it will likely be a few months before at&t sees the prime.

Nexus Prime/iPhone 5 for me atm... but theres still a 10% chance that seeing the Att Attain in person could wow me into buying it but I highly doubt it. Don't like Att/Samsung giving Americans the middle finger by taking 6 months to bring it to the U.S.

Because it has potential, higher resolution is a big thing which is the only thing missing from sgs2.
Also 5.3 sounds big, but you never know it may be the sweet spot between a phone and tablet. It is definitely going to replace both my phone and tablet.
And then there is the stylus which is kind of cool to have and might come handy in lots of places.
The only thing which is disappointing is the software. I would have liked to see ICS, but they are shipping with ginger bread.

Should I buy a Rezound or wait?

I found a Rezound that is being offered for $400. It is was only opened, never used, at least he said. Is that a good deal, should I take it? Droid x2 is a terrible device. If you want slow performance and audio/video that skips like none other get the X2. Quad on phones probably won't be out till 2013, maybe late 2012.
What's with the sudden love for quad-core? What are you people doing on your phones that requires 4 cores?? I work this thing hard and haven't had one single instance of lag at all. Four cores is overkill already. That's like buying a desktop with 16 cores. Ridiculous. Buy the Rezound, and call it a day. Everything Moto makes is crap.

Vanilla and Moto in the same sentence just doesn't sound right. I know theres the Google/Moto partnership w/e you want to call it, but I doubt VZW wants anymore AOSP unlocked phones after the gnex. VZW = mad cause can't control/lock down the Nexus like they though they could.
I beg to differ,I love my moto Droid 3. I've already got it nice and tweaked out. But I'm handing it down to my son so I can get the rezound because I want the 4g and better camera. All in all the d3 is a solid phone. Imjust a nerd and want something more. HTC does make great phones. Can't wait for mine to come.
Oh and the core issue, more cores basically means each processor can focus on a task. If optimized greatly, 4 cores should result in better battery usage because its taking less time to process things, one task could be split into each core. Once things all line up of course, it will make a nice difference. Android is know in all tech circles to be subtly laggy(even the nexus), but that's because of Androids programming structure. This will get resolved with the newer core technology coming in the next couple years.

I think ICS just needs to be ironed out more and apps coded for HW accleration. The UI lag/stutters is a software issue, and has nothing to do with our hardware.
I would get the rezound but try and talk him down to 350. Not sure there is that much of a market for them so 400 might be too much.
Edit, might want to jump on the 400 if you really want this phone. Not many on craigslist here in san antonio and the cheapest I saw was 450.
No joke, I couldn't find one single Rezound on Craigslist here.....I searched back a full month, and there's not one person who's selling the Rezound. There are, however, about a million iPhones for sale.
Yeah everything is iPhones.
I can't beleive that people are trying to sell iPhone 4 for as much as a Rezound or Razr.

My trip to the VZW store

So my dad is considering switching over to vzw and getting a gs3, which is a huge upgrade from his old evo. He wanted to go see it and so did I so I tagged along. When we got there we started to look at it and I have to say both of us were impressed by it.
Now the first thing I noticed. While some rep was blabbing about the phone with my dad I was trying to get into the bootloader. Since I have never had a Samsung phone I had no clue and searching yielded no results fast. So I powered it off and pressed a bunch of buttons and to my surprise instead of a bootloader I saw the Samsung logo and underneath it was a little unlocked lock that read custom below it. I assumed it meant it was unlocked and I was way to shocked to take a picture.
Just a little surprise. Now on to the next thing.
I checked out the nexus and I was loving it until I brought up a white page and could see the home screen burned in an ugly yellow over the page. yuck. I honestly tried to give it a chance but that's disguisting.
Now the real gross part.
I moved even further down passed other stuff until I came to the so called "rezound killer" the DROID incredible 4G lte. It seriously made me cringe a little inside. The screen is so small and not as wide as the rezounds. Another thing: its not even that thin. It's definitely thicker than an iphone though. I couldn't test the weight because of the security thing which was huge on this device. Definitely a smaller downgraded rezound.
And that is my little trip to the Verizon store.
FYI the droid inc4g isnt a "rezound killer" its not supposed to be. the inc4g is target more as a mid tier device not a high end like the rezound is. all versions of this inc has always been targeted as a mid tier device. hence the smaller screen smaller form factor.
its not suppose to be better than the rezound..if your looking for a follow up to the rezound supposedly a new htc phone for vzw just got benchmarked and it follows the model number of the rezound.
what he said.
the inc 4g is actually a great phone, i've sold 3 within the past 24 hours already, and the people i sold them to LOVE it.
....plus, we make god damn BANK on the Inc 4g so i can guarantee reps are going to be pushing people into this phone like crazy. it's so cheap for stores to buy, and selling at 199 is a great price point. it's an awesome little phone, and if i could, i'd totally get one to run side by side with my Rez
The unlocked means there is a custom recovery. Fishy. Not an unlocked bl unfortunately.

I read that and decided to go to the house of a friend that had it. So after a little while of playing with it its actually pretty nice. I'm gonna be mad if they get aosp before us though....

Yeah that is fishy and considering most vzw reps know nothing about anything (excluding jayochs) I'm wondering if one of the smart employees played with it?
Gotta correct one thing - when the Og Inc lauched, it was a top spec phone, beaten only by its close brother the Evo in terms of screen size (but not resolution). The Inc was top tier, till VZ shoved their heads up their bums, and released crappy iterations there after.
Given the styling, i think the Rezound should have been the Inc 4G.. ah well, a rose by any other name...

how cool would the tbolt have been? HTC MECHA!
I think the HTC Ville (One S) and Pyramid (Sensation) were better than their real names and maybe the Leo (HD2) and Runnymede (Sensation XL)

You forgot the supersonic (EVO 4G). How badass would it be to have a phone called the HTC supersonic?

Supersonic was one of the coolest code names.

The nexus screen sucks, just as you experienced. Pretty much all the hardware on that phone was outdated at launch. I still don't understand it. I know for sure our screen, camera, and radios are better. Now the GS3, I would buy that in a heartbeat if I had an upgrade and could keep my plan.
I think I'll stick it out until the next nexus drops, though. If cm9 ever gets sorted out for us, the wait will be easy.

Oh yeah. It is smooth as butter with JB. They really dropped the ball with the hardware. The GS3 should have been the Nexus branded phone. Let the crap hardware have TouchWiz.

why do you consider the dinc2 crap? I have 2 for the kids and the damn things just work. No custom anything and both after over a year are just as snappy as day 1.
Consider when they came out, lte wasn't mainstream, neither were dual core processors. Got a great little 4inch screen as well. Some people need to realize that not everyone wants a 1080p 5 inch screen on their smartphone... (I do of course, but we are the vocal minority)

Well, a year later, and the device has the same CPU, a weaker screen (OLED is nicer), less internal storage.. The droid x2 came out the same time and blew it away in performance. And the SII put it in its place badly in only a few months later. Nothing "Incredible" about it, unlike the original...

BAHAHAHAHAHAHHAA THE DX2 BLOWWWWSSS. I'd take a dinc 2 over my ol dx2 any FREAKING day! The dinc has a single core and 700mb ram but the processor is overclockable and it has full aosp roms. The dx2 has 2 cores and 512 mb of ram and it runs aosp roms with Backdoor patches and fixes. Hell, I'd take my old fascinate over that POS.
