Catan App - Motorola Droid X2

Anyone here a fan of Catan? Bought the app and have a problem with it rebooting my phone every 20 minutes of play or so. Emailed the dev team only to get a response telling me to use a task killer to free up memory and included a link that says why Android doesn't need task killers. I find this kind of answer unacceptable as my wife's fascinate runs the game fine. Maybe there's a memory leak in the x2? I refuse to run task killers since they are not needed.
*Update 11/24
Attempted to use the V6 SuperCharger script to manage the memory better and lock the app into memory etc. It was a no go. Going to call the customer service after the holiday and see where that goes. I'll keep this posted when I find something.

I have the Catan app but i have yet to play it for 20min. When i do i'll give you a heads up. It might be the Liberty rom you're using.

No worries. I figured that was the case for most people. It's a euro board game, very fun, that got created for ios and android. I play the physical game all the time, check it out sometime if you like board games...think civilization, but WAY faster to play and WAY less complicated.

So, I flashed Eclipse 1.3...still rebooted after ~20 minutes of play. What I can't determine is if the X2 has a memory leak or can't manage apps good enough, or if the catan app is bad. Problem is, it works fine in the fascinate and other apps work fine on the X2 so which one is broken....one of them has to be

be sure to make a nandroid first just in case. usually everything is just fine. but just in case u bootloop u will want to restore.
I recommend V6supercharger update8 to be safe. the newer versions are great but if u never used it b4 u r gonna want to use the "basic" version first to get used to it. and all the newer ones are just RC'S anyway(release candidate) they are not finals like update 8 was.

I ended up getting update9 rc4...having dome issues, but hopefully will get worked out. Issues:
1. From terminal emulator I get either permission denied (after an su) or file not found (spelled correctly in the correct directory)
2. From root file manager it seems to take over 10 minutes to run? It does add a supercharger folder and HTML file, but this seems like a long time for a script. (Hopefully I'm wrong and it's installing stuff too making it take longer)
3. Dled romtoolbox and added the script. It ran...but apparently I didn't copy the whole thing. I'll try that again if this pass of #2 above doesn't work.
Question: how do I know it is installed, and will the changes be there after every boot? I haven't needed to run scripts before this phone. Thanks.

sorry I should have specified.
get script manager from market and run it using that.
be sure to check run as root.
before running it u are going to want to go into script manager settings and turn off the "extra gestures " setting so u are able to scroll correctly. and u also want to turn on browse as root.
if u made a nandroid before running what u did I would restore that then do these things to be sure u have a clean install.
then after u reboot just run supercharger script again and it will tell u if it is installed and running correctly.
script manager has a free and a paid version in market.
that is the tool u want to use to run the script trust me. it makes it very easy
oh and by the way...since eclipse has init.d support there will be no reason to use script manager to run anything at boot. it will run every time.
if u happen to use one of the options to change minfree values((u don't need to do that.)) but if u do you will want to go ti system/etc/init.d and edit the 98tweaks file that comes with eclipse. u will want to delete the lines in 98tweaks that refer to minfree values(says something like "aggressive values etc...") but it isn't necessary if u just do the oom groupings fix and htk launcher.

Awesome, thanks. I did see reference to script manager, but thought I'd try it without first...guess I know what I'm doing next

yeah just make sure u change the settings I mentioned. if u don't turn off extra gestures setting it will type a bunch of random characters when u try to scroll. its VERY simple to use.
feel free to private message me if u need any help as well.
my gmail will alert me quickly so I can get back to ya
let me know if u need any tips its thanks giving...don't forget to hit thanks button...Hahaha ...just kidding ...im a thanks whore Hahaha...
also. I usually change the file type from pdf to .sh...just rename the file with whatever file explore u use. its bot necessary but I do it
when running it using script manager u will see an option to choose to use terminal emulator if you prefer it but script manager is very simple/easy to use. have fun with it. its an awesome script for making our x2 run how it should. enjoy

That's funny, I tried saying thanks...but the xda app doesn't let me. I'll do it later. Got the script working. The problem was that my file browser was executing the script...without any way for me to see the output and make selections haha. Script manager did the trick.
On another note, the Catan app still crashed. The first time was in 10 minutes, but only brought me to the home screen. The second one made it reboot after 20 like before. I think I'm going to try the oom group fix with bulletproof launcher instead of hard to kill. And change to the 513hp aggressive setting.
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App

Oh, and I made sure to have all the settings correct
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App

bulletproof launcher will lock home app in memory. kinda takes up ram by not allowing home to be killed. .
maybe try option 9(used to be on.older version) for different minfree settings ...

Well, thanks anyway ash. It was a good thought. I tried every setting, including different minfrees and even bulletproofing the Catan app itself. It still reboots after 20 minutes. I even went into the script after reboots to make sure the settings were sticking...they were.

[Q] Backup phone, completely?!?!

Forgive me, I know this has been discussed by search turned up a lot of fruitless stuff to wade through.
Real simple: Is there a way to backup my phone 100% before trying a new ROM?
I'm not so much worried about contacts, etc... as I sync with Exchange at work. More about saving all customizations, apps, etc.... when I want to try a new ROM release. (I know I"ll have to re-setup all that on the new release... just want to be protected if I decide to go back to the previous ROM).
Thanks!!!
That's what a nand backup does
Backup - nand
Ahhhh..... always wondered about that, but my quick google-search came up empty.
So I don't need something like the app "ROM Manager", though it sounds like it'll make life easier.

Nope NAND is all you need.
One tip thought after to do a NAND backup and after to get a file manager installed rename the the backup to something you'll recognize. The way it work though the original name is a time stamp yyyyddmm-tttt. If that makes any sense. Just remember there can't be any spaces in the new name.

Download Titanium from the market. It allows you to backup all of your apps, data within those apps, and system data (settings, etc.). You can run a batch to backup everything and even schedule it to do backups at certain dates and times.
When you flash the new rom, go back to the market and install Titanium again. Do a batch restore and it'll install your apps and all like you had it.
Also if you use ADW or Launcher Pro you can back up your home screens and restore them so they'll be set up just like before. Note - you'll have to manually add widgets back.

I did come across titanium backup while doing searches and it's good to have some reassurance. oh and should I do a COMPLETE batch in the settings part or mostly do the ones in green?
This queston must have been asked 1,000,000 times but there's no simple way of updating roms from v29 to v30 to ect.?
I do complete batches.

[Q] Eclipse visual voicemail

Hello all. I am running eclipse 1.1. I subscribe to Verizon visual voicemail and when I install it from the market, it prompts me to uninstall because it says there is a version already on my phone.
i have handled this before by going into the build.prop file and modifying horizontalVVM from True to False. I save and reboot. This always let me use the market version of VVM. With this new install of eclipse...this no longer works and doe not allow me to use the market VVM. Not sure how to proceed here....any ideas?
BTW: Please don't tell me not to use the paid version or something like that because there is a free version or whatnot. I know this already, I just like the VVM service that Verizon offers. Thanks
It worked fine for me... do you have a backup copy from titanium backup???

Works great on my tb , would look better on the nook given the resolution.

Also hopefully it's ok to link that thread:/ if not mods please remove.

I get a build.prop error. Wont install.
I found that the issue is with the linker file that goes in bin... if you unzip the files into their proper locations its the only conflict and it makes the nook bootloop. I also tried modifying the flashable's script to install on the nook, still didn't install.... Maybe the author of this port can fix up that linker file for us
I'll message him and see what he thinks. or hopefully one of our devs here will pick it up and get it working.
It's really smooth on my tb ,I always felt that the browsers were lacking or just looked funky. But I think this would be a perfect fit.
Also it supports flash, has tabbed browsing, reflows correctly after pinch in, and you can change the user agent. .

[Q] How do I edit the Android Market to show all applications?

I'm using a couple ICS+sense roms that are giving me some issues with the Market. A bunch of apps aren't showing up including some that I paid for. It prob has something to do w/ me going from GB to ICS 4.0.1 aka CleanRom 2.1. Anyways, before I flashed these roms I was able to see all these apps in the Market that I can't now. Can someone explain how I can trick the Market into showing every app whether they're compatible with GB/ICS or not? If I have to pull my Market.apk and edit it, let me know how to do that or if there is a Market.apk out there that I can install over the current one I already have. If there's a way for me to keep that most updated market(3.4.4) that'd be great.

I know, it sucks. Essentially I think you have to edit your build.prop. It'll be a pain to get it to work. If you can find someone that knows how to correctly edit the build.prop, I think you can get those apps. The best thing to do would be to contact the app developers and ask when they'll make their apps compatible with ICS.

Oh and could you name a Rom I could download to get the apk I need. Also, what is the name of the market.apk? How do I remove the market from the ICS Rom and install the GB market over it so I don't have two markets installed and in my launcher?
One last thing, what do you mean paid apps will require a licencse?

Nope, not market.apk. You'll want to look in /data/app for the specific apps that are missing. /data/app is the location of all your apks downloaded from the market.
The reason we don't need to simply copy the market.apk is because your market app is working just fine. Google's servers filter based on device and rom according to the build.prop file. Because there's no official ICS rezound it doesn't know what to show you yet. Once it gets closer to release google will add the profile for ICS and everything will show properly.

If you go the flashing back to GB method I recommend grabbing AppMonster to back up all your apps. I've been using the pro version and it's pretty cool. Now I have access to all the apps I've downloaded in the past but don't have to install them until I need/want to. It also automatically backs up apps as soon as you've downloaded them. Super easy to restore too.

DO NOT DO THIS! The reason that some of the apps are not showing up in the market is because they have not been updated to say that they work with 4.0.1. If you swap build.props you could seriously harm your device, I STRONGLY advise against it.
I just went to the market website on my computer and looked under my apps, then just installed all the ones I wanted to from there. It was a little hassle, but really only took around 10 min for about 30-40 apps I wanted.

in your opinion does it do any better/different than TB?
I've been looking into editing the build.prop file. I am hesitant to do so because all the other examples I've seen are from similar devices so very few lines are actually changing. I noticed the rezound has a crapload of lines, i'm not sure how many would be required to actually get an app showing.
Does anyone know what specific lines the Market app looks at to verify?
My problem is not that I'm trying to get an app on ICS but that I want Plants and Zombies. I understand it works on other GB's but not the rezound. Any more insight on the build.prop file would be awesome!

Well, updated to CleanRom ICS edition v2.3 and tried my build.prop and my Rez wouldn't even boot... Booo!!!! So back to the drawing bored I went. Happy to say I now have a build.prop that is up and running. Issue here is not that I can't download games from the market. That's easy. Issue is, once downloaded, they won't download additional data. **shakes fist at gameloft**
So here it is, as always: I'm not responsible for any damages done to your phone by use of this file, etc..... Remember to nandroid backup!!!!
THIS HAS ONLY BEEN TESTED TO WORK ON CLEANROM ICS 2.3
How to Use:
Open file browser of choice and go to /system/
Rename build.prop to something like build.prop.bak
Download the file and unrar it
Move the file to /system/
Rename to build.prop
Reboot
When you need to switch back, just rename the modded build.prop to something like build.prop.mod and rename build.prop.bak to build.prop and reboot.

What is it? Okay, well kenjesse put it best with this description : " Pdroid is an app that lets you modify permissions app by app with out breaking them. You also have the option of "spoofing" the permissions by sending randomly generate data rather than your phones actual sim, meid, phone #, etc.
As the app does not need to run constantly in the back ground it has virtually no impact on battery.

I will make patch zips for other roms upon request but it can be done easily by following kenjesse's instructions below. Just got done installing this and it seems to be working great. I'm running CM7 with no special tweaks other than Moon Shadows wifi fix, following instructions from op here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1357056
this is what I did:
1. DL Pdroid Patcher zip to PC (Win7 in my case)
2. Extract Pdroid Patcher exe file and run
3. Browse to update-cm-7.2.0.-RCO-daytona-KANG-public-beta1.zip (cm7 ROM) and select.
4. Click "Patch" (program takes about 2 minutes to create required patch zip file as well as restore file if you choose to uninstall Pdroid later)
5. copy the 2 created zip files (PDroid-v1.31-update-cm-7.2.0-RCO-daytona-KANG-public-beta1.zip & PDroid-RESTORE-update-cm-7.2.0-RCO-daytona-KANG-public-beta1.zip) to your external SD Card
6. Boot in our BSR BACKUP...BACKUP DO A NANDROID BACKUP!!!!
7. Flash the PDroid zip file
8. I did not wipe anything as it is not stated to do so in the OP install instruction... I did flash cm7 reRecovery before I rebooted just to be safe.
9. Reboot your phone, go to market and install Pdroid.
I tested by removing several permissions for my Fox News app which doing thru cm7 causes the app to break, using PDroid the app still worked. Not sure how to test beyond that.
I did notice that the reboot stayed on the cm7 animation for a while before the phone came back up as if a dalvik wipe had been done.
Hope this helps and if you break it it's your fault not mine and remember...BACKUP
You are awesome! Thank you very much for giving this attention, I can't wait to follow the steps you've listed when I get home. Thanks again

He probably should update the op title. Pdroid is an app that lets you modify permissions app by app with out breaking them. You also have the option of "spoofing" the permissions by sending randomly generate data rather than your phones actual sim, meid, phone #, etc.
As the app dose not need to run constantly in the back ground it has virtually no impact on battery.
I highly recommend it, for what that is worth. Check it out at:

Beautifully put. Hey, I would update the op title but it's not letting me from the mobile app. I will later when I'm on my laptop.
Hey, how did you spoof the permissions? Don't see that option within the settings. I just see symbols without descriptions (gear, bar graph, check, ect...)?
Just to add, I don't know if it's just in my head or not but I feel like my phone is moving way faster After changing all the permissions that I did.
........and last, I'm going to post the patch zip file for cm7 dx2 when I get home so all anyone needs to do is flash it and download pdroid from the market (Google play (stupid name)....whatever). Okay all done.

Settings options are:
Check = allow
Graph = random spoof
Gear= set the spoof value
Slashed Circle= block
And then there is a check box in the top right corner to enable notifications for just that app.

Okay, here are the zips. Just flash the first of the 2 zips in CM7 recovery and then install the Pdroid app. The second zip is just to restore. I'm not responsible if you break your phone...blah blah blah.....THIS IS ONLY FOR CM7DX2 (but if anyone wants I will make zips for any rom on dx2, just ask.)!

Thanks for the help Kenjesse!
So please help me clarify what setting should I set the apps to? Also do I need to do them one at a time or can I do it by batch?
Okay, what I have been doing is blocking ALL permissions for any given app and then trying to run it. I then look for any error messages and go back and enable only those specific permissions to allow the app to function properly. You'll get a system once you use it a bit. .....and unfortunately there is no batch function. It is a very cool app though once you play with it and definitely enable the function where you can see it blocking and granting permissions. It's pretty cool!
........and someone please tell me how to change the title of this post please

Flashing The update zip makes the required changes for the app Pdroid that you get from the market to run properly with the cm7 ROM. IT WILL ONLY WORK IF YOU ARE ON CM7. If you later uninstall Pdroid you flash the restore zip to remove the changes made by the update zip.
I believe it is done this way so the app can work without root permission and therefore doesn't have to run in the background....I could be wrong though and as with any mod you should go to the linked thread above and research it for yourself.
