[Q] E-Mail: "Re:" instead of "Aw:" (localization) - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
got my SGSII couple of days ago. I'm currently using the built-in e-mail client with MS Exchange 2010 server. Since I'm currently using my phone in German language I need to change to reply codes for e-mails from "Aw: " (German) to "Re: " (International). Outlook 2010 is able to do this just fine.
- Can I change it on the SGSII to work correctly?
or
- Can I install another e-mail app (Kaiten/K-9/etc.) to get this working and will it sync with my account data I've entered into Android?

Any idea how to solve this? Tried K-9 and Touchdown but both havent convinced me.
Coming from WinMo, could this just be some kind of registry setting?

exchange email ?

Hi,
I still didn't receive my Streak.
So I wonder if the default mail client has MS exchange mail support.
I know the mail client on the Android emulator has Exchange support but what about Streak ?
Thx.
I'd appreciate any reply from an owner...
Hi, the UK version came with touch down which has exchange. The2.1 released the other day has exchange support and touch down.
Hope this helps

Yeah, just to clarify... the 1.6 version (aka, what you get when you buy it) does not have native exchange support. It has an app called touchdown that does exchange but its a 30 day trial.
Android 2.1 (available via a leaked rom) has multiple exchange account support via the standard email client and it works wonderfully (I've got two exchange accounts working great).
thank you for the replies.
one question:
is it possible to get the default mail client of Android 2.1 on Android 1.6 ?

Hi,
I've just tried the default email app on 1.6 rom. It has an exchange (webdav) option which seems to connect to my server.
So it has exchange support ? am I wrong ?
However, I can't get any email. What may be wrong?

I did not have any luck with Web Dav either.
I am a big fan of touchdown because I can still use my Google contacts/calendar globally but my exchange contacts/calendar are still available in touchdown.

[Q] HTML viewing in corporate email

I switched from blackberry to the Samsung Vibrant 4 months ago. I really miss seeing HTML messages from my corporate email account. I could do this with a blackberry but I have not found a way to do this with the vibrant without a third party app. I have read that without exchange server 2007 I wont be able to see html on my Vibrant. I find it hard to believe that there is no way I can see HTML on this phone. Does anyone know of an app or setting to enable HTML support for exchange email. I don't think IT will upgrade to 2007 just because I love android!

[Q] Anyone tested Hotmail / Exchange

Hi
I am getting the Galaxy SII in the next few days and I am coming form a windows 6.5 phone, but have also used iPhones for work purposes.
Has anyone tested the exchange setup on the new Galaxy?
I am a long standing hotmail user (please dont start a bashing thread hotmail vs gmail etc ) and I want to stay using hotmail.
Is the exchange client on the phone now capable of doing everything using a hotmail account?
If not whats the best solution?
Use a different mail client on the phone?
Link hotmail to gmail account?
I've done a little searching and it seems that different models of android phones seem to handle exchange email in different ways as some phones seem to work others dont.....
I also would like to know what advantages gmail gives to you over hotmail only in reference to Andriod?
Many thanks

Lucky git i'm still trying to justify the spend to my other half.. time to pull out the powerpoint presentation and pie charts
Hotmail works just fine. Haven't configured an exchange account as yet.
Another confirmation on Hotmail functionality.
Exchange sync is available, but unfortunately I can't test it as my work have blocked mobile access unless you have a company BB -_-

Well microsoft has made an exchange server for hotmail and live which i use on mij galaxy s1, so i guess that would work ony any phone with exchange support.
Just enter it like this:
Id: [email protected] (or live)
Password: your email password
Domain: leave this empty
Server: m.hotmail.com(even for a live.nl adress)
Ssl box ticked
Then you can choose what you want to sync and how (push or time based)

Exchange works.. (im on exchange 2010)
Only thing missing is the ability to push multiple folders
If you need full exchange-ish funcionality, then touchdown is probably the best app to use.

Have you tried TD yet? I'm assuming I'll need to deploy it due to shortcomings in the native Exchange client.

NeoVR can you confirm that when you start typing in an address, that it looks for names in the GAL (Global Address List) as well as your phone?

- bi-directional contacts sync
- bi-directional calendar sync
- bi-directional sync of recurring appointments
- html mails
- confirming appointments
and what's about push for multiple folders?

Plus could anyone confirm if folders and sub folders in Exchange are all on one level or have a tiered structure as per Outlook ie:
Folder 1

Thanks.
I'm interessted in the Qs of EinPaul and awharton too!
THX in Advance for responses!
Any sign of CISCO VPN or device/SD card encryption?
There was lots about this pre-release but perhaps it has been dropped like Face recognition lock and NFC.
Thanks in advance,

Same problem here. I've been with hotmail for almost 15 years and don't want to change. I want a client that syncs the way activesync did on my winmo phone (with sub folders too)....searched and searched with no luck. I can't believe that it doesn't come with the default client
Hotmail/Live accounts work. However, I tried to link my university email, which uses Outlook, and that didn't work.

Exchange mail set up problem despite several trials

Hello guys. I got my sgs2 with stock firmware 2.3.3 two weeks ago. I was able to set up every account flawlessly except for my exchange office email. It keeps displaying 'set up could not finish/ Cannot connect to server'. All my entries are correct and my network too is good. I tried connecting on my former device, samsung vibrant, and worked flawlessly. So also on some other devices i tried. I have read in this forum several solutions and inhave tried them all. Connect through wifi , using the exchange account under 'accounts and sync ', using 'edge' only type of connevtivity , i have also updated to stock 2.3.5 and still having the same problem. I dont want to change the email apk as some did and will prefer using the stock email app (not third party app)
Please, does anyone having any idea on getting my exchange account to connect on the sgs2? I need to sync my exchange contacts, mails and calender. Will appreciate every response to solving this problem.
Thanks guys

I know you don't want to use a third party app but your problem may be on the administrator side of your account. Try the demo of Touchdown Exchange and see if that works. If it does, then you know it's a samsung problem.
Btw, there is a limit to the number of phones you can add to your email account with exchange. Each time you put on a new rom, it treats this as a new phone. Through owa or outlook, check how many mobile devices are registered to your account.
Setup for Office 365 Exchange Account (Small Business)
I just got my SGS2 today and tried setting up my Office365 Exchange account.
I ran into issues, getting a similar error message to OP.
The solution was:
1st Screen
- on the 1st setup screen, fill in username and password
- choose "Manual Setup"
- when asked what type of account, choose "Exchange Activesync"
2nd Screen
- there are 3 fields: a) Domain:user name b) Password c) Exchange Server
a) format is domain\user name (i.e. whatever.com\[email protected])
b) already filled in
c) normally, server address is m.outlook.com when using Office365. Samsung dares to be different - you need to find your actual server address, not the generic one.
Go to this address to get details for filling in these fields: http://help.outlook.com/en-us/140/dd936215.aspx
Once I accepted the various activation messages, an error message flashed very briefly, but then sync was established and I synced very quickly.
I think the message was: "Cannot open connection with server due to security error", but I can't be sure
I ignored that error message, as sync seems to be working perfectly, with "push" activesync.
This was discussed on the Office 365 forum. Here's the link: http://community.office365.com/en-us/f/160/t/5282.aspx
I realise you may not have Office 365 Exchange, but I'm posting this in case it may be of help in some way.
P.S. Must say, I'm very chuffed that Samsung's native Exchange client supports Tasks and SMS sync, in addition to the standard options. SMS Sync seems faster than it was on HD2...
thanks guys. I really appreciate all the responses. I have tried out the solutions provided . I installed the touchdown app and it worked straight away. my mails, calendar, contacts & talks sync completely.
I also read through the links provided above and really never made any error initially on setting up my exchange account. Though I still followed through the steps/settings for exchange setup and still encountered the problem. one thing I like to clarify is that I am not sure if the server in my office is 'office 365' has being explained on that site. I think we use the exchange 2007. if the exchange server type is the issue, will using one if the email apk posted under themes and apps section work for me if installed? Because, I really will prefer using a stock email app. or is there any other way I can get the stock email app to work without giving me those error messages?
Also, will installing one of the custom roms get it working?

Email app shows many copies of the same email and don't send deleted emails to trash?

I have a strange problem with the default email app. There's like 10 copies of each email, doesn't save sent emails, don't send deleted emails to Trash folder. Anyone facing the same problem? Any available solution?

How are you configuring your email? Is it a windows live account, yahoo, gmail, etc?
Is it POP3, IMAP, or Exchange?
Personally I had a problem when configuring my windows live account with the default (Exchange) method. Whenever I send an email, it gets sent twice or thrice! I worked-around this issue by using POP3, which has many shortcomings, but it solved that issue.
Windows Live Messenger (@msn.com), it was automatically configured. Do you recommend a certain configuration? Thanks!

The issue I had with duplicate emails was resolved after updating to 3.2
I have a new galaxy tab 10.1 running 3.2 and still have the issue with multiple emails going out, and items not deleting from my deleted mail.
I've tried the stock email as well as K9. I own my own domain and use my own email. I've set it up as an IMAP account. I also have a Samsung Epic and always had the same issue there too.
I really would like a fix for this. It's pretty ridiculous that 'email' is such an issue. It's not like it's a new technology.
Help..
R
I got same prob with gmail app and my google acc. on my tab (running on Overcome Rom with Pershoot Kernel)
Maybe it has something to do with coustom rom's?
Not sure it has to do with custom Rom. I'm still using stock on my galaxy tab.
