Cool!
Superuser binaries have been updated to 3.0.3 now.

Dax, you are too kind.
I think anyone wanting to root/recovery/flash should do their time reading, and then read some more.... THEN and only THEN should be allowed to ask intelligent questions based on the research they have done.
In the end I think you are only allowing newbs to be lazy with your UCG.
We have stickies for this very reason, but no one reads them it seems.
And no one seems to watch this either, http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=JmvCpR45LKA

Well said and pretty much true.
There is another thread like this by victortangocharlie where hes exlplained multiple methods for installing recoveries.
But stickysours thread is huge. and too many questions, so a compact thread is always better implemented.
P.S - IMO !

X10 Custom ROM AOSP 2.1 : How to for dummies [tutorial & discussion]

this thread is open to help newbies to install the 2.1 custom rom with the simples way..
you also can discuss any problem here..
dont mess the dev thread with a dumb question...
thanks to "Perceval from Hyrule" for the original tutorial..
this is revise version for 2.1
INSTALLATION FOR 2.1 AOSP
Before attempting anything, make sure you have AT LEAST 50% of battery charge. Don't try anything with low battery, you can abort the flashing and brick your device !!!
Please make sure you're also running a 2.1 rom (Generic, nordic, official, custom...)
1st step:
make sure your computer is adb debugging ready..
in case in need for command execution..
- Download Android SDK
You don't need to save the entire archive (but you can), you just need the Tools folder (because it contains ADB, the Android Debug Bridge we need to install files).
2nd step:
- On x10 :
Enable USB debugging (Setting > Applications > Development).
Root your device. easiest way by using z4root.
Download and install Busybox (from Market), make sure it says "Done!".
3rd step:
install xrecovery for recovery menu.
xrecovery a.k.a recovery menu
4th step:
option 1:
Download rom.
2.1 AOSP ROM (make sure 2.1 since this tutorial is for 2.1)
extract the rom (u will get 2 folder + 1 files)
upload the file into your sd card root(sdcard/*.zip)
rename the *.ZIP to Update.ZIP
*the 2 folder contain application which u can install if u like
option 2:
Download rom.
2.1 AOSP ROM (make sure 2.1 since this tutorial is for 2.1)
extract the rom (u will get 2 folder + 1 files)
upload the file into your sd card root(sdcard/*.zip) or in any folder u like
*the 2 folder contain application which u can install if u like
5th step:
boot into recovery menu (by restart and hit few times back button when "SONY ERICSSON" word appear)
backup your original rom(in case u want to restore next time)
hit full wipe
option 1:
hit install update.zip from SD card
option 2:
hit install custom zip
search for the custom zip in folder where u save it
hit the zip file
after reboot, u will get custom rom installed in your X10
good luck ;-)
TIPS
1-u can do like rendeiro2005 said by creating rom folder and put the rom collection in it..
so if u want to change or try other rom just choose zip file from the particular folder...
this require using step from option 2
2-another one, by creating folder which contain backup image..
u can collect your friends backup image and put in one folder..
if u want to try, just restore the particular image file using backup/restore option in recovery menu and choose the backup image file..
collection of custom rom backup file for recovery menu:

Hi bro,
Only two calls on your excellent tutorial:
1. No need to put the rom in the root of the sdcard. I, for example, to distinguish the roms, I`ve created a folder "Rom" in the root and put the roms in there.
2. It is not necessary to rename the *. zip file.
When we entered the xRecovery, you can go to "install Custom Zip> zip Choose Custom from sdcard>" Now in my case I a. .. "Roms >........" and I intend to choose

it`s not a different way.
i think that way would be more simple (for me at least) `couse you can have different roms puted on the same directory without, everytime that you want to install one change his name to default.zip
but...great TUT (clap your hands floks)
Since i haved installed the 2.1 AOSP, my recovery were deleted !
So i install the xrecovery.apk but it doesnt work (don't fin the SD Card), so i paste the 3 files with root explorer but nothing to do... the recovery doesn't work at all =(

Install all 3?! Yes you can...if you want you can install WM and iOS
Now mre seriously.
If you want to install 2.1 you have to format sdcard to one partition only. 2.1 doesn't work with more than 1.
Then you can flash...follow this guide to do so

That's a solid enough guide I'd say but sorry just one more thing I can think that might be valid to add if I may;
Before going to say about adb for flashing screen recommend a fresh install first as that is much easier for the user to do if they just done it than read and learn all about adb. Just a thought but good guide, please delete this post if its considered as spam or not relevant.

In fact you can change as follows (at your own risk)
1. Use Root Explorer to delete \system\media\bootanimation.zip (or replace with your own)
2. Copy framework-res.apk from \system\framework to sdcard
3. replace the following image files in framework-res.apk (I use total commander) with the stock image files:
i) android-logo-mask.png & android-logo-shine.png in assets\images folder
ii) default_wallpaper.jpg in res\drawable-hdpi folder
4. Copy framework-res.apk from sdcard back to \system\framework folder
5. reboot
Thanks, will this to my thread.

Thanks dude, worked a treat with Mr Rusch's X10 Mod Tool and 7zip.
Installed and seems to be working fine aside from the screen flickering which I can't seem to get rid of. The ADB thread has a link for android SDK which seems to be out of date because it no longer links to a download. I can't figure it out otherwise. Anyone wanna help me get rid of the screen flickering?
Reinstall the zip via xRecovery, jusy as you did the first time you installed FreeX10.

Yes, you can restore data with titanium, but I recommend a fresh install of all your apps.
The only thing I restored with Titanium was my SMS/MMS.
Contacts and calendar synced with gmail.
The other apps was a fresh install from market.
That way i'm sure no junk from 2.1 will mess up my freshly installed 2.2 rom
But sure you can, if you want, restore most of your apps and data.
Maybe just me that want everything fresh

But make sure you disable your SIM PIN code.
If your phone reboots during the night I'm not sure the alarm will work if the phone asks for PIN.

Installed and seems to be working fine aside from the screen flickering which I can't seem to get rid of. The ADB thread has a link for android SDK which seems to be out of date because it no longer links to a download. I can't figure it out otherwise. What they don't tell you is that you have to rename fastboot-mac to fastboot and go into terminal and set the permissions for fastboot for YOU to have access to. I spent about 3 hours last night dealing with this issue and am not on my laptop to give you direct link to instructions but if you google "how to get fastboot to work on mac" you should be able to find instruction on how to "sudo" fastboot.

Does it matter I use WINraR?
I have just been copying the .zip over to the SD.
Via an adapter to card reader and by leaving it in the amaze and loading it.... NO LUCK
does a quick scan after hboot screen appears with no image listed under every heading if that helps
download it (dont even open it) just drag it on your sdcard put in phone reboot into hboot

[Q] Pushing a zip file-need help please

Hi! So I've sucessfully rooted my phone using the SuperOneClick or whatever its called...I need help backing up my rom. Already tried to follow these instructions;
G. Flash Custom Recovery:
1) Push recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.6-galaxyace.img to your device using "adb push recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.3-galaxyace.img /tmp/" command
2) Turn off your phone
3) Press POWER+HOME BUTTON
4) Login to your device over "adb shell"
5) Mount /system using "mount /dev/block/stl12 /system" command
6) Flash CWM recovery using "flash_image recoveryonly /tmp/recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.3-galaxyace.img" command
7) Umount /system using "umount /system" command
8) Reboot your device using "reboot recovery" command to test your new CWM recovery
9) Reboot your device
This is great and all...except for the fact that this keeps happening;
C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools>adb push recovery-cloc kwork-5.0.2.3-galaxyace.img /tmp/ cannot stat 'recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.3-galaxyace.img'
I've already moved the entire zip and folder into platform-tools. What is it I do now?
Would just like to know before I commence with downloading more apps.
Thank you in advanced,
WarDerp

Thanks. But which Zip? the one found on that website? I have clockwork but it doesn't recognize my phone model. Do I install that .apk included on? Some of these instructions are pretty vague to be honest. There's another version of that tutorial that goes more in depth but its for an older version. I don't really want to flash anything without knowing what I'm doing..
When you say 'you have clockwork', that's a very vague statement. Please elaborate.
The zip file on that website provides a version of clockwork that will 1. provide a backup of your rom and 2. works for SG Ace. Which is what you want right? If not don't read any further and do some more searching around!
So let's go over what the website says. Download the zip file to your computer, paste it to your SD Card (anywhere on your SD Card). When it says 'paste the zip file as it is', it doesn't mean 'paste the .apk included in the zip file', it means 'paste the zip file'...
Disconnect your phone from your computer. Turn your phone off. Reboot into recovery by holding down the middle button and then pressing the power button. That will bring up 'recovery mode'. In recovery mode you will see the option 'apply update from SD Card', select that option with the middle key. It will then show you a list, in which will appear the .zip file you 'pasted into the SD Card'. Go to it and press the middle button. It will then install Clockwork Mod Recovery on your phone.
This should appear as an app, with the Clockwork bowler hat symbol. In there you can then press the 'create backup' and it will automatically reboot into recovery and show you the process of copying all the files into the 'clockwork recovery backup' folder that will have been created on your SD Card.
Is there anything vague about that?

No need to get upset, but respect for helping me. So, in short, this will allow Clockwork Rom Manager to detect my model of phone and then allow me to back up my current rom, right?
I'm running Clockwork Rom Manager 5.0.0.3. What is the .apk he's including? Its not my fault if I have concerns..

No there is a miscommunication here. ROM MANAGER will brick your phone but CLOCKWORK RECOVERY is fine. They are TWO DIFFERENT THINGS.
CLOCKWORK RECOVERY can be got FROM THE LINK I PROVIDED and installed via the instructions I repeated here.
Edit: For the record the link I provided will install CWM Manager v1.80 AS WELL AS Recovery. This is not the same app as ROM Manager and it simply provides a user interface that takes you directly to Recovery Mode and create backups without having to go into recovery mode manually.

[Guide]How to Root + CWM Recovery, NOOB Friendly[Updated]

PLEASE HIT THE THANKS BUTTON!!!
Intro:
Even though there a lot of articles on how to root most of them are not detailed and still many of you out there who have still not rooted your phone this guide will guide you.
I've gone through lots of articles on how to install CWM recovery , How to Root Canvas HD but almost all of them are not noob friendly and you just don't understand them. As a new user i myself took days to get acclimatized to rooting.........
This is a noob friendly guide to root and install CWM recovery both on 4.1 and 4.2 versions.Everyone can go through this!
Sources & Thanks.
1) Thanks to XDA i've taken a lot of resources from XDA.
2) Thanks to developer of motochopper.
3) Thanks to developer of mobile uncle tools.
4) Thanks to micromax for a beautiful device.
5) Taken help from google.
First what is rooting?
Rooting is a process allowing users of Smartphone’s, tablets, and other devices running the Android operating system to attain privileged control (known as “root access”) within Android’s subsystem. Basically rooting is performed to overcome the limitation that wireless service providers and hardware manufacture of android phone put on some devices. If your android mobile is rooted that means you are the SUPER USER on your android cell phone and you get ability to customize or replace system applications. This little word rooting provide you power to run specialized apps that require administrator-level permissions and perform another operation which are inaccessible to a normal android.
I think this should be more than enough and you would have already spent your time on this!! Hope so
Now what is CWM recovery?
All of the Android devices consign with a recovery assuage that is a basic partition on the device's internal memory and also can be booted into it. The stock recovery of almost all of the Android devices provide a few basic yet useful options that allow us to factory reset our device, clearly it is cache partitioning, and bring back its operating system using an official ROM in zip format, but that is the only thing you can do with it. This is the reason where a custom recovery becomes handy.
A custom Android recovery initially replaces all the stock recovery with the one that lets you to do all that you can with the stock recovery, plus a overabundance of options that give us a lot more control on the device. With a custom recovery, you can install official and unofficial ROMs as well as other updates also including hacks, themes, kernels.Using zip files, wipe not just user data but every standard partition on our device, ascend the storage card for USB mass storage access without leaving recovery, partition your SD card, wipe dalvik cache and battery status, fix the permissions, perform, manage and restore backups, and so on.
This is where CWM recovery comes in our aid!!
There is also another very popular recovery named TWRP which many developers still recommend but still a major drawback is that many ROM developers still prefer CWM so i say go with CWM!
Guide: How to Root + CWM Recovery, NOOB Friendly.( Method 1)
Please Hit The Thanks Button!
Note: Follow any One of the following Methods to root.
Method 1:
Prerequisites:
1) Motochopper tool:
Link: http://www.mediafire.com/download/t0o4dpvigwyb09l/motochopper+BY+djrbliss+on+droidrzr.com.zip
2) CWM recovery image: (Note two versions are available the first one is a touch based version while the second one is not)
Link: 1)http://d-h.st/OGP
2)http://d-h.st/3xk
3) Mobile uncle tools:
Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d....toolbox&hl=en
4) Have your CHD charged fully before following this procedure.
5) CHD of course.
6) USB cable.
Rooting procedure :
1) Connect your mobile with PC with the given cable.
2) Install appropriate drivers (i.e either 32 bit or 64 bit)(provided with the phone)
3) Enable USB debugging and connect as MTP(Media storage)
4) Open motochopper click the file run.bat .
5) Hit 1 for normal mode.
6) Now just follow the one screen tips and after the process is finished , your phone will reboot and voila it is rooted!!!
Method 2:
In this method we're going to root the device using Framaroot.
Requirements:
1. Canvas HD of course
2. Framaroot application
Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2130276
Go there and download the latest version of the application.
3. CWM recovery image: (Note two versions are available the first one is a touch based version while the second one is not)
Link: 1)http://d-h.st/OGP
2)http://d-h.st/3xk
4. MobileUncle MTK Tools:
Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobileuncle.toolbox&hl=en
How to root:
1. Install the Framaroot application( If you don't know how to install it then follow this.Go to the location where you've placed the app click it then then click install that's it).
2. Open it. Now Select the option "Install SuperSU" and hit Boromir.
3. Reboot your Device
Voila is is rooted!!!
Install CWM Recovery:
1. Install mobile uncle tools, remember it require root access to work properly.
2. Place the CWM image in the root of your sd card. Now what is Root , root layer is the top most layer. That is just open the SD card and place it there itself do not place it inside a folder or sub folder only then mobile uncle tool can recognize it.
3.Open Mobile uncle tools and select the option Recovery update.
Now you'll see the file you placed in your sd card ,now click it and then click ok. Now it will ask "boot into recovery mode" click yes and now you are in CWM recovery!
Note: If you have connected to internet while doing this you may get loads of other options after clicking recovery update don't worry just click the one you placed in sd card. verify the name twice.
Method 3:
Prerequisites:
To download both go to http://androidsu.com/superuser/ scroll down a bit and you'll see ARM devices (2.0 – 4.1) in that version 3.1.3 two packages Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip and this su-bin-3.1.1-arm-signed.zip.
1) SU Package
2) SU BIN
How to Root:
1. Copy both the files to the root of your SD card. Now what is Root , root layer is the top most layer. That is just open the SD card and place it there itself do not place it inside a folder or sub folder.
2. Now again restart the phone to recovery mode by pressing Power Key + Volume UP + Volume Down Key.
3. You will see an Android icon with warning/error on the screen, press the power button.
4. You will see the recovery mode menus in the screen. Now this is tricky, to select any option from the screen you have to press two touch buttons simultaneously on your phone’s bottom, left one which is for the menu and right one which is for going to the previous screen. You have to keep pressing it for 5-6 seconds.
5. From the recovery screen select “wipe data/factory reset” and then “wipe cache partition”
6. Once it’s done, select “apply update from sd card” option and choose the file “Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip” from the SD card.
7. Repeat the above step and choose the file “su-bin-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip”.
Once you flash both the files select the option “reboot system now” from the recovery screen.
Note: If you have connected to internet while doing this you may get loads of other options after clicking recovery update don't worry just click the one you placed in sd card. verify the name twice

Replacing stock recovery:

Hey lets see how it goes... thanx for replying....
i have 2 questions for you ,
1) do i need back up my device i mean the stock rom or something? if yes then how ?
2) about the unrooting just in case if there is a goof up and i unroot it will it work properly ? as mostly micromax phones have a lot of problem and i am old user of micromax android phones so every now and then i have to run to the service center for one reason or the other. So warranty is there , i have read some where there are some clock timer issues on phones which enables the service center guys to differentiate the rooted phone ? is it true? kindly guide.
i m still going with the process you listed and will let you know how it goes for me.
Thanks man.....
And
what will happen after i click on recovery update....
Will it make a backup of current rom?
Please reply......

Welcome,
For your first question,
At this stage you will not be able to take the backup of the entire ROM since as you don't have CWM. But in case if you're already rooted then download titanium backup pro and use the backup all feature and in case if you've not rooted then follow this process. Backup all your contacts to your gmail account using the sync option. Then backup messages and call log if you want through some backup app like snap pea. Then download app uninstaller from playstore a free app and backup all the apks ( second or third option don't remember exactly) then backup this file to your PC ( the file name is android it will have the folder data inside it and sometimes another folder obb copy both).
SO by now you have a backup.
Now coming to your second question,
Yes the unrooting will work without any problem You just have to go to the settings and click full unroot and its over! You're worried too much i think no just do full unroot and they wont be able to identify it if you still have doubt then after unrooting you can factory reset your phone and then there is almost no chance the customer care guys find it out.

No after you click on recovery update it will just flash the new recovery and in this case CWM recovery it will not make any backup or so.
But since you're rooted( if i remember properly) then use titanium backup pro to backup whatever you need. But at thi moment you cant backup the entire rom as you've still not flashed CWM!
