Motorola Razr UK Spec Bootloader (not good news) - Motorola Droid RAZR

Have just managed to get into Fastboot on the Razr. Both up + down button volume at same time then power on, use down volume to scroll, up volume to select.
From cmd ran fastboot oem unlock
Returned: INFOfastboot oem unlock disabled

I guess it won't make a difference, but can you try powering up holding volume down? Should go directly into fastboot mode.

Apologies guys, we had information from Motorola to say the Bootloader would be unlocked but have not had a chance to test for ourselves. Going by reports from customers it looks like the bootloader is not unlocked on the handsets that we have. I am trying to confirm the situation with Motorola at the moment. Going by this blog post it looks like it may not be unlocked until the ICS update is released:
http://desiibond.blogspot.com/2011/10/motorola-razr-to-have-option-to-unlock.html?m=1
http://blog.clove.co.uk/2011/11/08/motorola-razr-xt910-unboxing/

If that is really true...
then this announcement is nothing but a lie.
Motorola Europe Thanks for that comment . Here's the confirmed statement on bootloader: the software version featured on Motorola RAZR has been built with an unlockable/ relockable bootloader included. However, whether that feature is enabled is dependent on carrier and operator partner restrictions.
"Has been built" means NOW. Present tense. Not "will be".

huh...
I just stopped my order due to this
Porting ICS would've been a piece of cake with an unlocked BL
I will await confirmation before getting the RAZR
If the BL can't be unlocked then I'll pass
Please keep us posted

Waiting for confirmation on unlockable bootloader... :°)

Could you please quote the firmware build number and any other relevant specs from menu - settings - about phone.... would like to compare with the Australian supplied ones (although I have a feeling they won't be any different)

[Q] returning to at&t

I am returning my old atrix to at&t after they sent me a new one and i need it returned to stock from gingerbreak 4.5. any help would be awesome. i don't want at&t to charge me like crazy cause it was rooted
people have been returning theres unlocked so i dont think that is a problem,

Since I live in NZ and bought this phone off the marketplace here, does anyone know how easy this would be?

No it cannot. It only removes the 'unlocked' text. Once unlocked the bootloader CANNOT BE RELOCKED!!!!!! *facepalm*
Yep, unlocking burns a fuse in the phone. Once it's burnt, the phone is unlocked unless you want to open it up and get a bit crazy.

Hi, this is Bhakta from New York, USA. I have big problem with my Motorola Photon 4G sprint MB855. After I have rooted my phone, I found new system software of Photon 4G. I download and installed but after installed the phone does not boot. the error massage 'Failed to boot 2 Starting RSD mode and hang up. If I boot manually, it boots but automatically shut down after less than 1 minute. I searched more than 12 hours online and try to download RSD lite drivers and sunfire user file but I can't. After all I found you helped a lot of friends. Please could you assist me. I am so frosted. I have no enough money to buy new one. Don't worry if you want to donate some I will. One more time please favor me.
Thank you
Bhakta
I feel your pain
Unfortunately I can not offer any help because I have the exact same problem. I can only offer what I hope are helpful details about the phones behavior that might help a knowledgable person with a clue to a resolution.
I rooted my phone by the One Click Root method. Friday morning I accepted an over the air software update and can now no loonger use my phone. My phone is in a boot loop, it will start and run about a minute and then restart, as its trying to restart it gets stuck displaying the error, "failed to boot 2" and "starting RSD mode" but it never gets past that point. I have to pull the battery to move the phone from that point.
When I try to fastboot I get the error "starting fastboot protocol support", but nothing ever happens from there, I have to pull the battery if I want to try the next thing. I tried to enter "Androidd recovery" from the fast boot menue but get the same "failed to boot 2" error.
Help, I am in over my depth.

I don't have an SBF for the latest update but all the other files have been on my site since December and as well as the Photon Compendium thread in the Developers forum.
At a quick glance from various sources it almost seems like moto did this on purpose. There are a lot of rooted users having issues with this latest update and the update blocks sbf flashing to and older releases. It may be a little bit before we can get this cleared up for you guys.
Have you tried booting into stock recovery and wiping data?

why do we need to unlock bootloader to root?

sorry im just a little confused. ive had multiple android devices all which have been rooted and not all of them have had the bootloader unlocked. now this is my first htc product so im not really familiar with s-off. but i bought this phone thinking there were going to be lots of devs and everything working on it and this has killed my plans . i know patience is a virtue . i was just curious. i mean droid razrs have plenty of roms available and they are still on a locked bootloader
It all has to do with the exploit used to root the device. HTC has to have an unlocked bootloader so that you can use the bootloader to write the root files to the system folder.

same way, let it off for awhile then try if it doesn't pull battery and then try, it works
And turn off fast boot in Settings/Power.
i ended up rebooting, and just holding the power + volume down. that worked for me

if you have an unlocked b/l you can flash a custom recovery img which allows you to then flash a root package in that recovery
there is no current working exploit manually root the stock rom otherwise
Hmm. I just got the blank email from HTC. I hadn't yet tried unlocking today, and received it after 9pm. I tried, but it was to no avail. I was hoping HTC was secretly sending out emails for those who had repeatedly tried, trying to help them out.

It was a leak, we need a new leak from Motorola, this was not a hack at all so we can't just reuse something.
First of all, THANK YOU everyone for taking some time to answer every question. I really appreciate it. I have been reading, and reading for hours...my eyes are starting to bleed.
So... there is NO WAY we can get a better Android than the 2.3.5?
My build number says 4.5.1A_SUN_USC_19.0, that means I cannot unlock the bootloader, isn't it?
Is there another way (hack?) to improve the performance of the cellphone? I have root it, just to change some files I couldn't, e.g. the sound of the camera.
And finally... is it THAT bad being stucked on 2.3.5?

You can attempt the Pudding Bootloader unlock, it is unlikely to succeed, but it may be possible. You do risk bricking the device though.

Unlocked bootloader
Well, it appears that I am still the only Photon owner around with 2.3.5 and an unlocked bootloader. Unfortunately mine was some sort of freak accident that it happened. I can run run custom recovery and flash all day long. Unfortunately if I install a ROM with any other version (or maybe it's the kernal) it will not work. It will boot up fine but nothing will connect at all. I've tried almost all of them........

I need a dev unlocking crew

Alright, I'm tired of this bootloader crap! I need anyone and everyone interested in helping me get this MoPho'in bootloader unlocked on 2.3.5!
We have WAY to many people stuck on GB (after Moto said we'd have ICS ) on this beast of a phone!
Before anyone asks, YES i have the skills to do this, just not enough to do it quickly.
With that said I do bring some skills to the table.
I can program in the Android language and port just about anything anyone can come up with.
I know my tech (to put it short)
Please anyone with the same feeling as me, come help me out in ANY way possible. Even if it's just testing. I would greatly appreciate it!
Please people!

Hmm well I learned that sprint was a big reason the BL got locked. The Electrify sbf (Yes i flashed it) is unlockable easily however my radios dont work so i cant have that. I did find some cool things inside the System partition. I rooted it up and got a file browser (ES). The blocks where the BL is has a special file called infooemenc.encf assuming this has to do with our "fastboot oem unlock" command problem. That file however was a fluke. My phone soft reset itself (doesnt like the Electrify rom) and POOF gone... Very suspicious. i had to relock to go back to photon state though

you do realize the same phone shipped months earlier on a different carrier and was locked? (and then was released later too).
moto's first device to offer unlocking services was a sprint device. rather than jumping on teh locked samsung bandwagon they are still one of teh few companies that have most of their devices unlockable. as well as their tech support doesnt care if you are rooted as if its a software issue they are going to flash stock.
