SGP Linear Color Cases - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I've seen quite a few reviews / post on the SGP NeoHybrid series cases but nothing on the Linear Color series, thus I figured I'd post some quick photos and share my comments.
After several reviews on how the NeoHybrid series sags after while I decided to stay away from that model and try the Linear Color series. I found out the frame is of the same material as the NeoHybrid, just the back is different / hard plastic. I wanted a two-tone look, thus ended up ordering 2 cases, one in Silver and one in Black. First let me say I absolutely LOVE these cases. I think the look is absolutely gorgeous and the fit is spot on. I read reviews about the back being loose on the international version of the SG2 but this is not the case with our model. There is absolutely no movement of the back case. The cases are also a little different between the Black and Silver. The Black has a high gloss while the Silver has a bit of a flat texture to it. This works well with the combo of the cases as you don't have a full slippery phone with the all black and you have nice break in the texture with introducing the gloss black to the silver case. Overall I would highly recommend this case. The picture I have do not do the cases justice. Additionally these cases include the Ultra Crystal screen protector which is installed in the pictures.

Thank you for the review. Can you confirm if the case covers the top mic? Also, how well does the side piece fit the phone? Is a youtube review it looked like the side piece was bowing out a bit so every time the buttons were pressed, the case would clearly flex.

Wow those cases look sweet. Thanks for the info.

The case does indeed cover the top mic, however I believe it can easily be fixed by some of the methods described in this forum (hot nail, small drill, etc). I plan to give it a shot on mine this weekend. Will try to post some update pictures with a better camera when I do. As far as the case, there is absolutely no bowing / flexing taking place. If it's the same youtube video I saw, they mentioned they had attempted to put the case on with one of those skins on and that make the case bulge a bit as they forced it on. The two I have fit like a glove and again have no movement of the back plate as described for the international version.

Case
I like the pics, and I am in the market for a case. I am definitely going to check these out.

I got my Linear case today and I must say I like it alot! I go Soul Black which has a glossy finish to it which I prefer. Because of this glossiness, the case can be slippery though but i dont mind. The case has a nice lip on front side so laying the phone face down is no problem. The fit is well done too. With a 3 piece case, I was worried how snug it would fit together. Rest assured, everything feels nice and snug. I also verified my phone, wifi, and gps signals are not negatively impacted by this case , unlike my CaseMate Barely There Aluminum which I also like the look of but could not deal with the greatly degraded gps signal.
My only complaint, and this definitely more of a preference, I wish the lip on the front side was a not so high. Swiping from edge to edge, my finger hits the edge. Its not a big deal though.
Overall, I would recommend this case!

I would get one, but I'm thinking about taking my SGS II back next week for the LG Nitro HD when it comes out. It's nice to know there are some good, reasonably priced cases for this phone, though.

Hmm...I like my Neo Hybrid case but it's a pain whenever I want to remove it to access the microsd card or when I had to peel off an old screen protector and place a new one one. Been thinking about this case and was wondering if you could post or PM me pics? (Probably gonna go with soul black as well since I don't want to buy a white & black to keep my stormtrooper look -- unless someone's willing to buy the black shell with white backing?)
Thanks!

Alright I will post some pics later. I will say that removing this case is pretty easy however, I dont think I would advise doing it too many times. There are little clips that attaches the bottom part to the frame. I imagine these clips could wear over time if the case is removed too many times.

Thanks! Yeah, I don't plan on removing the case too often but I'd also like it NOT to be such a PITA when I want to take it off. It's really the only negative thing I ahve to say about the Neo Hybrid case. I wish they offered a white shell w/black backing instead of having to buy 2 different color cases though since they offer the white shell with pink, turquoise, etc. <-- NO black backing, ReaLLY?

are there 2 different versions of this case? galaxy 2 att and international?

I believe it's the same case - the only difference is that you'll get the correct Steinheil screen protector without the home button cutout that comes with the i9100 (aka international) version. The case itself fits either although since the i9100 is a bit slimmer, the back supposedly wiggles whereas it should fit flush on the i777.

Ugh...so I went ahead decided to get the Infinity White Linear case and got it today...
Sux, it doesn't fit right. The bottom part won't clip into the rest; only one side clips in properly as if the width is not right. I've emailed SGP's customer service so they can RMA and get me a new case (I'm going to be pissed though if they try to charge me for shipping & handling).
I'm really surprised that it doesn't fit. I hope I just got one from a bad batch.

I sent an SGP neohybrid case back on the 14th of november and still waiting on my refund. had to pay for the shipping back.

Was the product defective (my Neo Hybrid fits fine but I wanted the Linear case for easier access to my microsd card and battery)?
If it was defective, then you shouldn't have to pay to ship it back.
I'll just have to wait and see...don't know what case to get if they don't RMA and send me a Linear case to fit...(thought about the Taurus but don't want the metal case to interfere with GPS).

sent back due to wrong screen protector being sent, and had also read about how the rubber back saged over time. i bought one of the s line cases off ebay for like $5 and it fits perfect and didnt increase the size much.

Ok, then yes it would make sense that they charge you for shipping. But in my situation, the bottom part of the case doesn't fit properly. I'll look at the S line case you mentioned and see how that is. Thanks.

Elago Leather Case

Have any of you ordered this for your note? They make this one and the one without the flip cover. As of now, I am using the official flip cover and it is already starting to fall apart. I really like the look of this. If no one has ordered this, has anyone else tried any of their other products? Just curious about quality.
http://www.amazon.com/elago-Handmad...VJBO/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1331222074&sr=8-8
Also, I want to order this screen protector. There is a post here in the forums about it, but am also curious if the above case will fit with this .4mm thick tempered glass.
http://www.amazon.com/SPIGEN-SGP-Pr...1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1331226637&sr=1-1
If it doesn't fit, this might be a good option to go with the screen protector...

Any comments would be welcome
Very nice case. Love the slim design. Will look into it.
Ended up ordering the case without the flip front and a Steinhill Ultra Crystal screen protector.
When it comes it, I will post some pictures on the consolidated white note thread.
Just ordered....
I just ordered the flip cover version - should be here by the end of the week. Will post review and pics when it arrives.
Please come back and give us some reviews of this case. I really like the look of it. However, I wonder why there's no cutouts for the power or volume buttons. I also wish they had done a little more to cover the corners.

Yeah, I read that, too. I can see where the cutouts are for the camera, flash, usb, and mic. I just assumed that's what they were talking about. I guess it's possible that it's just a mockup, or you just have to push the buttons through the leather.
Does anyone know if this case is available in black?
Also, SPG makes a Stehen case similar to this one with full corner coverage.
i'm interested in this case too.
My case arrived!!!
So my case arrived today from Amazon, and I promised you all a review, so here goes:
1) Delivery & packaging
The case came via USPS - not UPS or FedEx. Ordered: Sunday, March 25th, 2012; delivered: Wednesday, March 28th, 2012. Came from San Diego, CA to Orlando, FL in 3 days. Not bad. The case was packed in a bubble-padded shipping envelope. A bit cheap considering I paid $4.99 in shipping & handling, but whatever.

Inside the bubble wrap was the case in it's manufacturer's packaging. Nice pack - obviously meant for hanging on a peg in a retail location. It's attractive and well-protected inside, and the package was not difficult at all to open. There is a fingernail tab in the top-right corner of the front face that lets you just lift off the front cover. No chance of scratching your case with scissors or a knife - a nice touch, I thought.
The reason I mentioned the nice packaging is that inside the outer packaging, the case is resting inside ANOTHER plastic tray (this one without a face), providing an extra layer of cushioning and protection from crushing. It's obvious that whoever thought up the packaging design took care to remember the leather case inside...
2) Aesthetics and General Fit/Finish
This is a NICE case! The edges have all been finished and are not ragged like some other cases I've seen. Everything is glued instead of stitched, so we'll see how well that holds up over the long-term, but so far, so good - nothing is loose or peeling. There is a small company logo on the front in the bottom-left corner and another one (with a tagline) on the back in the bottom-center. Both are small and non-obtrusive.
3) SPECIFIC Fit and Finish
My 1st surprise was to find out that the cover MAGNETICALLY sticks to the case to close - a pleasant surprise! The 2nd surprise was to find a wallet-like card pouch on the inside with 2 slots for credit cards. Um, this was NOT in the pictures on the website and MAY be a problem when I install my SPIGEN SGP GLAS t. Premium Tempered Glass Series Screen Protector which arrives tomorrow. I will report back on this when it's installed.
The 3rd surprise was that there were no cutouts on the sides for power and volume up/down. I think I actually like this, as the leather is marked with the button positions and is soft enough that you can get the buttons to do what you want without *mashing* the leather. The top is wide open so you can slip the phone in the case, and the bottom has cutouts for the S-Pen, Mic, and USB port.
Top opening:
Bottom:
Right Side (Power):
Left Side (Volume):
Inside Flap:
As you can see from the last picture, there's a full-size hole for the earpiece and front-facing camera. The rear of the case also has cut-outs for the camera/flash and speaker. both are proportional and not overly large.
4) Summary
So, do I think it was worth $50 (by the time shipping was involved)? Yes. I think this is very much so a world of 'you get what you pay for', and I think this case is a well crafted, quality leather product. I'd expect to pay this much or more for a leather wallet, so I have no qualms about the price of this cover. The only trepidation I have is the credit card holder inside the front flap. I will never put any cards in it, and I would prefer the case not to have it (as was depicted in the images on their website), but it's not a deal breaker. The leather itself is smooth (non-grain) and evenly dyed, with no visible imperfections (barbed wire scars, dimples, etc.). It is genuine leather, not faux leather or any other synthetic fabric. Overall it does add appx. half-again the thickness of the phone, but it's not unmanageable.
Overall rating: 8/10 - ********_ _ - 2 Stars off for the credit card thing inside the front flap and not being shipped in a cardboard box for a bit more protection.

Thanks for the review. It's a really good one and very useful. My only concern is that the phone seems could slip out from the top easily. Am I right?

It doesn't slip out the top, but when you plug the charger in from the bottom, it does 'push' out the top a bit. A quick push back into the case, and all is good.

This case isn't the wallet one. This is just a phone case. They make a wallet version. As I posted in my review, I was surprised it had the credit card slots, as the original pictures on the website didn't show this.
As a follow-up, here are a few quick observations:
1) With the cover open and flipped around the back, the speaker is VERY DIFFICULT to hear. I've missed calls because I didn't hear the ringer.
2) Same problem with it sitting flat on a surface (like a desktop). The leather is so smooth it effectively blocks sound from the speaker. I find myself leaning it up on a pen or something just so there's an air pocket underneath.
3) It slips very easily into my pocket. I thought this was going to be an issue, but it's very smooth and slides nicely into my front pocket.
That's it for now - will report back as more questions pop up and/or I have more observations to post.
how is the thickness with having credit cards? ..is it awkward when talking on the phone, do you leave the cover closed or flip it back? as far as speaker ..my phone is always on silent ..while at work ..i only ask because i ordered a cheap $10. wallet "leather case off ebay..i love the concept but damn its bulky!!! its only temporary until you finish your review of the elago

Sorry, I didn't see this post update - so here are the answers to your questions:
1) Thickness with credit cards - I don't know, as I don't put any in there. Like I said in my original post, this case wasn't suppose to have a CC pouch. The original pictures didn't show it, and I would have preferred it without the pouch. Based on thickness, I would say that the cards would press against the glass (especially if you are using the Glas+ protector like I am). I've always found that putting cards in a flat cover like this causes the flat cover to distort, so I'm guessing that that's what would happen here, especially if you then put the phone in a pocket.
2) Is it awkward talking on the phone.... - Yes and no. Holding the phone with the case open is a bit cumbersome as the 'hinge' adds width when the cover is open. I rarely hold the phone up to my head, I'm either using the speaker or a bluetooth headset. One note - the back cover, when open and flipped around, COVERS the speaker port, causing the speaker sound to become VERY muted. I usually either stick a finger in between, or if I'm setting the case down, leave the flap open and stick a pen or something under the phone (again, laying the case flat on the desk also causes the muted speaker effect).
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks!
Just got mine. So far it looks good.not bulky. I still need to get used to this to comment.

So far, so good!
I get a lot of compliments on the case - it really does look very nice!
No issues regarding durability, wearability, etc. It's not getting dirty from handling, it's not scratched up (so far), and there are no places where the leather is separating, peeling, or otherwise failing.
Bottom line, I like it! Money well spent!
i will be ordering mine soon.. just want to make sure it has cc slots!!! thanks!!

2) It wasn't suppose to have any at all!
WHy would the corners be exposed? Makes no sense. Drop it and there goes the screen..
Which question for ppl who using the flip case... How do you feel when holding it?
I have a Samsung flip case and i hate it. Hard to hold unless take some extra steps to fold the front to the back. When the phone rings, take more time to "flip the cover"..... so inconvenienced.
With my TPU case i use the phone instantly whenever I need.

Samsung Book Case and Skinomi Skin (Warning: lots of pictures added!)

Hi everyone,
I purchased a Tab 7.7 last night from Craigslist for an unbelievable price so I've loaded up on accessories.
I ordered an OEM Samsung book style case from eBay since it was MUCH cheaper:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/23075711880...X:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_7496wt_1270
For now, I'm using the slip cover case I used with my Nook Color. It fits in there perfectly. Amazing that this thing is thinner, lighter, and yet somehow still almost the same size as the Nook Color.
I also ordered a Skinomi carbon fiber skin:
http://www.skinomi.com/sk9340-samsung-galaxy-tab-7-7-carbon-fiber-skin-protector.html
The screen protector is hardly noticeable and doesn't affect the image quality. That's why I decided to order another one for my Tab. I did want to try getting the Brando matte screen protector, but I didn't want to risk having issues with image quality/rainbow effect.
I'll take pictures and review both when they come in the mail. It might be awhile for the case since it's shipping from China, but the Skinomi skin should be here next week.
EDIT: Case came in today. Pictures below.
I've read and seen a video showing that the OEM case is a tight fit and doesn't really work well with body skins, so we'll see. I'm not going to but the carbon fiber pieces on until the case arrives. If the edge pieces are separate from the back, then I'll go ahead and put the back on.
That's it for now.
EDIT: Skinomi skin arrived yesterday. The skin is cured enough to use, but as usual will continue to improve over the next week.

I cut off part of the corners in preparation for the case, but I still have the pieces if I wanted to attach them later. Normally the skin would go all the way down and wrap around the edge.

Closed w/out Tab

It's a tight fit. The back skinomi skin peeled off in parts of the corners because it was such a tight fit! I didn't trim enough off.

Propped up angle 2

It's a perfect fit!
Open flat
Open flap folded back
Open thickness compared to Nook Color
The book cover is a nice tight fit. Too tight if you have a skin of any kind on there, so either make sure you trim enough off or leave the skin off the back.
The material seems to be pretty nice so far. It's has a nice texture to it. It doesn't feel like cheap plastic. More like a blend of plastic can silicon/rubber. The fit an finish is mostly nice. The only complaint I have so far is the flap. The 3 magnets that are inside the flap aren't very strong so it barely holds the flap close and it doesn't close all that tight. I'm not sure how this compares to the case for the Tab 8.9/10.1 which are Samsung designs vs this KIRF case. It holds well enough.
Once the case is fully open, the flap folds all the way over and provides a nice grip on the left side if you're holding it in portrait mode. This makes the Tab a lot more comfortable to hold. It's still possible to lay the Tab flat if you just leave the flap hanging out.
There's a slot on the back of the case that allows the flap to fit into the slop to prop up the Tab. it's a nice angle but it's not adjustable and probably not solid enough to type on.
All in all, it's a pretty nice case. If the flap held closed more securely I'd say it's a near perfect case. As it is, I'd give this case an 8/10. It's a good value at less than $20.
I hope this was helpful for anyone considering this case.
the OEM case is not made by samsung right? this one has the typing angle and looks pretty good

Samsung does sell these officially. Here's one for the 8.9. The 7.7 doesn't have a good picture on their site:
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/galaxy-tab-accessories/EFC-1C9NBEGSTA
The one I got on eBay is either a knockoff or simply someone that is able to get them directly from the factory that makes them and sell them for cheap (very likely and hence OEM, original equipment manufacturer). After all, Samsung doesn't make the case themselves. They buy them from the Chinese just like everyone else.
It's hit or miss when getting stuff from these eBay stores, but I've had decent luck getting quality stuff.
I was definitely not ready to spend $50+ that Samsung wants for it.
To each their own, but there's no way that I would put a skin on the 7.7. It's just so nice as is with a regular cover.
I did have that same carbon fiber black Skinomi skin for my old Viewsonic gTab, and it was a definite improvement over the ugly back. But the 7.7 is so shiny...

The Samsung original book covers for the Tab 10.1 and Tab 8.9 are very similar, but the original one for the Tab 7.7 is a bit different.
The ones on eBay for the Tab 7.7 that look similar to the ones for the Tab 10.1/8.9 are knock-off's of the that original Samsung design.
I have one of these and despite not being up the quality of a Samsung original case, it's not too bad at all.

Yea. Looking at video reviews for the Tab 10.1 case and the design of ours, it looks like the Tab 7.7 is simply too thin for this case design to function quite as well.
The thinness of the 7.7 doesn't leave enough room for the buttons. They're not necessarily covered, but there's not enough room to comfortably use them. The thinness also causes the rubber feet on the back to be poorly placed. The Tab 10.1 is thick enough so that the rubber feet is almost on the side of the case so that when you prop it up on it's side, the rubber keeps the case from sliding. The Tab 7.7 is too thin and the rubber feet end up being more towards the back of the case so it doesn't stop the case from sliding nearly as well if at all.
I can see why Samsung designed a different official case.
I still really like the case. After leaving the case on it's flap overnight, the flap is laying down a lot better.

I still really like the case. After leaving the case on it's flap overnight, the flap is laying down a lot better.

ah that explains it. do you also notice that the tab is getting pretty hot while in the case? at least mine does, probably also because i keep playing a game which keeps the screen on for a pretty long time..
that is really good case cover compare to official one.

Yea. I notice that it does get a little warmer in the case. The metal back on the 7.7 basically functions as a heatsink. The case is probably trapping the heat that normally gets dissipated.
Got mine today here in Egypt directly from a Mobile Accessory shop , and it only cost around 25$, really this is a perfect fit for the 7.7
Thanks Maverick for this finding
Got the Skinomi skin, just put it on and it looks great I gave up on trying to put on the screen protector, i had a hard time trying to get the air bubbles out after 2 tries. Always had an issue with screen protectors on all my phones.

How well do the magnets keep the flap closed? I'm debating between this case and the official book case without the magnetic flap. My thought is that if the magnet doesn't really keep it closed, might as well just get the case with no flap? Just want to hear thoughts from people who have this case. Thanks!
So, I bought and finally received the case that the OP posted pics of and must say I am very pleased with it. Far exceeded my expectations. Looks sleek and fits well. My only initial concern was with the magnets not holding in place, but they hold up enough to keep it from opening which is what I wanted.

Glad it worked out. Yes the magnets are just enough to hold the flap closed. I still like the case quite a bit. Definitely a keeper.

My review of 2 cases: Diztronic Matte Black and eBay TPU black

Set the stage: I'm not a case fanatic. I used my OG Epic naked for almost 2 years. I do like the style of the EVO LTE and don't feel the need to cover it up. However, coming from the junk-in-the-trunk OG Epic, this thing is THIN and LIGHT. I wanted a case just to add a little bulk, make me a little more comfortable that I won't drop my new baby. And if I do, she'll be a little better protected. I'll probably take the case off in 6 months when its no longer my new baby.
The day before we got our nasty blue silicone case, I ordered two online because I couldn't decide.
UPDATE 5/31 I contacted Diztronic regarding the bulge in the Matte Black case, and got a response quickly. Clay from Diztronic has been extremely helpful and dedicated to making me a happy customer. He has sent a replacement, and I will be sure to update this post with an image of the new case. He assures me that a properly molded case should not look like that, so I trust that maybe a few were bad but most fit properly. I would urge anyone with a concern to contact them. I do not work for them, I honestly knew nothing about them before a few days ago, but now I am a loyal customer simply based on the customer service I've received. I will be recommending them to friends!
First, the Diztronic Matte Black (http://tpu-cases.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=48_66&products_id=259), $9.99
Saw mention of this elsewhere, but there is a bulge/gap below the kickstand that bugs me, and will probably be a dirt magnet:

Two things about this picture. 1) I was surprised to see the (extremely minor) defect near on the seam on the right side. But 2), I was surprised that the top half of my Matte Black case is shiny!!
The cutout of the bottom microphone, while it doesn't actually cover the hole, seems a bit off:
Flimsy section above the volume rockers:
PROs:
Subtle bump around the camera will protect the lens.
Matte doesn't attract fingerprints.
Subjectively good looks.
Cutouts for all buttons prevent sticking.
Good company & support from what I hear
CONs:
Bulge near kickstand (See update!)
Kind of awkward to push the buttons through the cutouts
Flimsy section near volume rockers
Matte black bottom, shiny top? Little strange (subjective).
Little less grippy than the shiny one.
Second, the el cheapo eBay "Candy" (shiny) black TPU case. There are a number, from a number of different sellers at slightly different prices, but I'd guess they're all the same. The one I got is: http://www.ebay.com/itm/GLOSSY-BLACK-HARD-GEL-SKIN-CASE-COVER-HTC-EVO-4G-LTE-SPRINT-PHONE-ACCESSORY-/270982902775?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item3f17d6f3f7#ht_1432wt_1396 ($6.95)
Shiny!
This image is grainy, that's just an artifact of the camera. The case is shiny all over. This one shows the covered-up power button.
Covered-up volume and camera buttons:
PROs:
Covered buttons will provide a little more protection from dust/moisture
Subjectively good looks.
Provides a little more of a rubbery-grippy texture, but doesn't stick to the inside of pockets like silicone.
CONs:
Potential for sticking buttons (Haven't experienced yet)
Two-stage camera button doesn't seem to work
Fingerprint magnet (subject to preference)
As with most things, this is definitely subject to personal preference. I prefer the cheapo shiny one, for a couple reasons. Most of all, I (personally) like the look. I kind of like having to wipe the fingerprint magnet on my pants all the time (really! ). I'm going to use the shiny to start off with. I'll update this thread if I find a reason to switch.
Word to the wise: When removing a TPU case, take it off from the bottom first. Otherwise you will probably inadvertently rip off the top half phone cover for the SD card.
Glad I'm not the only one that had the bulge on the back of the case. I've taken the case off and tried to reposition it over and over again and nothing will fix it.
It bugs me so much that I'm just counting it as a $10 loss and won't be using the case...which is a shame because if it fit properly it would be great.
If mine had that bulge, I'd definitely return it.

Yeah, I'm going to do the same today.
Got my diztronic TPU case yesterday. There is no bulge below or above kickstand that I can see. I am not a fan of the cutouts, as I inadvertently restarted my phone a couple of times trying to press the power button through the cutouts. The volume cutouts aren't smooth either, and I must say, the phone is less comfortable to hold in hands than the free case Sprint sent out with the phone.
I'm having the re-boot problem when using the diz tpu case. I think what causes it is that the case is so tight at the top, it squeezes the back cover into the power button causing it to stick.
I suppose you could notch the back cover a little bit at the button, but I'm not willing to do that for a case.
I have no re-boot issues when using the ugly sprint case, or with no case at all.
Sorry to hear your having problems with our case. The Diztronic case in your picture is either defective or damaged, our cases don't bulge by the kickstand like that. I have received no reports of that at all so it must be an isolated incident. In the future please contact us if there is a problem as Im not checking XDA as often as I used to. The case is indeed only matte on the back, which is why we call them "Matte Back" cases. It's my feeling that the glossy lip matches the front of the phone. We never have customers return defective cases and do our best to address any issues you guys have, so please email me if there is an issue so I can fix it. It's my opinion that our EVO LTE case is our best case to date, it should be 100% perfect and I've yet to receive even one return request at this point. The case should not affect the power button and hasn't on any of the cases I've tested. I've only received one report of that so far. When contacting us please go through the support ticketing system as XDA messages are not checked as often. Thanks guys!

edit: Regarding picture two, all molded TPU cases that I've seen have these, while I don't work in a factory I believe they are known as flash marks from the molding process.

Thanks for your reply, I certainly appreciate that your company has people who frequent these forums. I certainly didn't expect an official corporate response or resolution here, we're just talking amongst ourselves regarding our experiences. I did open a support case this morning and have no doubt I will be treated well.
Thanks again!
ya mine has a bulge as well.
I just got my case in the mail today and here my dislikes. I normally like cases with the cut outs but with this phone I'm not liking it. I'm sure the thinness of the phone has something to do with it. The volume and power button just don't feel good to me. The thin rubber strip that runs along the screen just feels too thin and will eventually stretch. But other then that the case looks and feels good. Overall I might keep a eye out for a similar case but without the cut out. BTW the camera cut out feels and looks good.
I've updated the OP with my experiences with Diztronic support. In a word, they're fantastic. Sent a new case in response to the "bulge" concern and really went out of his way to make sure I am satisfied.
BTW my case had no bulge and fits great. It would be nice if they made 2 version one with the cut outs and the other with the buttons covered.
I have the Translucent Black and I love the cutouts. I have had the Diz TPU with covers on my S4GT and EVO 3D and I ended cutting them out because of the added pressure it took to press the buttons. I have the Platinum/ Seidio and it has covers and it is impossible to take a smooth picture because of the added pressure it takes to press the button. I love the cutouts and the Diz TPU. I don't work for them either. lol I have not had the Mat finish but the Black Translucent freaking rocks! IMO

Otterbox Defender Series

So my new case came in today. So far I love it! It was sad to cover up what I believe it's one of the most beautiful pieces of hardware I have seen, but reality hit me and I can't afford to replace it. So otterbox defender series steps in! While this does add a lot of bulk to the phone, I was surprised by how little it actually was. The phone doesn't seem to feel much bigger in my hand. It still fits in my pocket well too. The only thing so far that I can complain about is the built in screen protector. It definitely takes more effort to use the screen. Anyhow, enough said.....pics!

I do agree on both accounts. I does suck to have to cover this phone up but it is absolutely necessary for me as well. I have a tendency to be butter fingers. I also agree about the built in screen. As nuts as this may seem I'm going to cut out the built in screen and install a Invisishield once they are released. I hope I don't mangle the rest of the case when I cut it out. Maybe I'll make a YouTube video of it. Also, does is seem as if the rigidness of the case would go away if the screen is removed? I'm not concerned with its "protective features I only got the defender versus the commuter because of the clip, a must have with this big of a phone that may not fit in my pocket all the time. Thanks for your feedback.
i didnt notice any microperfs does it cover the rear notification light?
I've had one before you can just push out the flimpse screen protector without needing to cut it. Its just held on with adhesive

What about the commuter series? Does that offer as good a protection as the defender? I notice it is 2 layer instead of 3 but it also does not have the built in screen but instead comes with a screen protector. I am thinking of getting one or the other for some added protection. I currently have the gel case from verizon btu know if I drop this thing, it is not going to survive.

I doubt that removing the built in screen protector would have any effect on the ruggedness of the case.
I actually prefer the commuter too but wanted the clip. However I use the clip for a vehicle mount. I have done this in the past and it works better than any dock I have seen. Plus I don't have to worry about removing the case to make it fit in the mount....its made for it!

If you could post up a picture for me (and for everyone really) when it arrives, that would be great. I think the Defender doesn't add as much bulk as I thought it might but if I can get something almost as resistant to my butterfingers in the Commuter while being a little slimmer, I am down with that. thanks!

I'm interested in this as well and is the only reason I have not ordered this case yet. If you can find this out for us it would be very very much appreciated bro
The Defender series is listedon the Verizon site and states in the description that it does work with inductive charging. If a store near you has it (none by me did) I would think it is worth a trip to see for sure.
How long would you estimate it takes to get the DNA in and out of the otterbox? Are we talking a second or two or is it a bit of a struggle or a ten second operation?

I have only taken it out once so far and it took maybe 3 seconds to get the rubber off and then I had to fiddle with the snaps on the plastic to get the inner layer off and that took me maybe 1 min at most....mind you this was my first time doing it, so no big deal at all.
Update: so after using the case for two days this is my thoughts....
I removed the platstic screen protector from the case, peels right out with a little force. Wayyyyy better! The screen is buttery smooth and the plastic screen protector that comes with the case just ruined it so it had to go. Really the edges of the case are raised enough that unless you drop it on some rough terrain it won't make contact with the ground on your typical surfaces.
Now I have found that those raised edges can get in the way sometimes. Its not a huge deal but you will notice them when you are on the edge of the screen. I did increase the margins in my launcher to help with that but once you get into apps there's not much you can do.
With the phone in the clip holster you will find that it is large on your side. I use it when at work but probably won't when at home. You will look like a nerd but it definitely is convenient. It also amplifies the speaker nicely when you put the phone in screen out for videos and such. As I stated in an earlier post I plan on using it as a vehicle mount. I haven't tried yet but I think I will find some heavy duty Velcro and put the soft side on the clip and the rough side on the dash. When I get around to it I will post pics.
All in all I love the case but to be fair I have to point out its draw backs as I did above. This case meets multiple needs and makes me feel much more at ease when handling it, knowing the phone is safe. Cheers!
I just received the Otterbox Defender this afternoon. Perfect size, but along with other users, I may have to remove the screen protector. It feels like typing on a Blackberry Storm. As far as wireless charging, I have the Energizer Pad and it does work through the case, but requires almost perfect placement. Takes a second or two to find a spot that works. Haven't charged it long enough to see if the case makes it overheat or if it takes longer than without the case, but I will report back.
I was in the Verizon store tonight checking out the Note 2 and they told me the Otterbox Defender had arrived so I picked one up. Like the others the screen protector HAD to go. Popped right out. The only issue was cleaning off the adhesive so it doesn't get on the DNA. Was kind of a pain in the ass getting it all off. I used something called Goo Gone to finally get the last of it.
Anyway, I really like this thing. My only gripe is that the hip holster kinda sticks out from my hip more than I would like. My arm hits it and I'm afraid I will get hung up on things once in awhile. We'll see how it goes as far as that is concerned but beyond that I love the fit and finish of this case. Very very nice.
It charges fine on the LG wireless charger....I have the Nokia charger coming as well and will update how it works with that device but I don;t foresee any issues.
I just picked up the defender, and like many others I had to remove the screen protector. In doing so though, it opened up a small gap that allowed the case to flex a bit, or at least that's what I thought at first. If you notice that once you take the screen protector off, there is a very defined glue line. Since the squeaking and creaking from the plastic shifting around was driving me nuts, I took a fine pair of scissors and actually cut the screen protector right along that glue line. Once everything was said and done, I reattached the very thin section of the screen protector back to the plastic and then assembled the case. If cut correctly none of the screen protector will be visible. Low and behold, the small gap was filled back up, and now the case is as solid as it was with the protector on there.
I know not everyone will want to basically mutilate a 60 dollar case to get rid of a little creaking, but for me it was intolerable. Just thought I would share.

I haven't noticed a creak but the plastic is making the soft buttons on the bottom difficult to use.The rest of the screen seem sOK though. But I'll no doubt have to remove the plastic altogether.
In other Otterbox news, I see that ProClip now has a "Adjustable Holder for Rugged Cases". Whereas I have always opted for a nice Pro Clip car mount for my devices over an OtterBox, this might allow for both. The web description claims this holder is for iPhone5s with a Defender, it gives the dimensions that the holder can adjust to and they seem to include the DNA Defender size unless I'm wrong since I don't have a micrometer. Their Facebook page is implying the holder is "Universal" but I want return-ability guaranteed.

For anyone interested - I felt like the defender clip protruded a little more than I cared for while on my hip (like others have mentioned). My solution: After checking the dimensions, I ordered a regular leather belt holster (for the NOTE 2). Got it today - and the DNA (with the defender case on) fits nicely. I am very happy with this find and hope it helps anyone looking for something similar an alternative solution. I also ordered an armband hoping I have the same results - will let you know when it comes in.
Here's a link in case you're interested - there are several different models to choose from in the Note 2 section - this is what I got

I love my Otterbox. I also, had to remove the crap shield that came with it. I have a Zagg on the way and will run both of them for complete protection.

IMO the spigen slim armor case is probably the nicest, slimmest, case there is while still protecting your phone... I love mine. I bought a white phone and wanted to stay with white
Is there a difference between international versions and the US versions with theses cases? Like not having certain holes cut out for antennae placement

Agreed. I bought the gunmetal one for my black G3 and couldn't be happier. True to form, I dropped it last night (grumble grumble) and though the case got a tiny bit scuffed on the tumble/slide across the concrete, the phone is unaffected.

I'm really REALLy digging these Hyperion Titan cases. I'll have to do a review on one in a few days. Really great fit.
How much bulk does that hyperion add?
Almost none. Let me get my calipers...
According to my digital calipers, the stock devices 9.76 mm. With the case it is 13 mm.
3.24mm thicker with the case. The front lip that protects the face is probably half of that.
Here's more pics...

Thank you for the extensive pictures. I'm debating between this one and the Spigen Slim Armor. Main thing I like in the Spigen is the little bit of plastic it puts between the volume up and the camera lens, I find myself hitting the lens by mistake a lot and I think this would help me find the volume better.
LG shows a nice looking Slim leather case but I don't see it for sale anywhere.

This might be an unanswerable question, but how sturdy is the color on the hard frame? A long time ago I had a case like this for my S3 and within a month the color on the corners of the hard plastic was starting to wear off. I've since then only used cases where the soft portion has color and the hard part is black or white.
Otherwise I've been eyeballing the Hyperion cases since they started showing up online. I like how slim they are and how they maintain the back curve of the phone.

Thanks button is for thanks man. Not an issue, folks here help me all the time, I like to help back.
I can see a thin part like that being helpful, but this looks great. BTW, I JUST noticed there is a plastic cover on the power button and volume buttons I didn't peel off. How did they ever expect anyone to notice that? Much better now!
To find the volume button I put my finger on the power button and slide up.

Seems pretty frigging sturdy. I don't think it is painted, I think thats actually colored plastic. I've got mine in a cheap holster (see the nasty red case in my first post) and no issues at all yet. I'll keep you all up to date though.
Juswanted to say, I got the Spigen Slim Armor in gunmetal from amazon for 17.99 i think? came fast.. and its been great. I'm not a fan of big cases.. and this one stays pretty true to form.. I wish i could bareback it with nothing cuz the thing looks great by itself.. but, ya know

Some users are discussing it here
So far I've tested the Spigen Slim Armour and the Cruzerlite TPU. The slim amour does do a better job of protecting the phone but I'm finding the plastic back to be to slippery for my taste one handed, where the cruzerlite doesn't slip at all but also doesn't protect as we'll.
