Not vibrating while on silent - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Having an issue around the silent mode not vibrating for notifications (email or messaging) I'm using a nightly build.
Model - MB860
version - CM7-11092011
Vibrate is set to Always

Silent and vibrate are two different modes right?

Well I know silent and vibrate are different, but while silent means no sound (Duh) I have the sound mode set to switch between (sound+vibrate) and (vibrate) through the Notification power widget. To squash some of the future comments I've tested the issue through the widget or through settings options with the same results.

I use Power Control Plus widget to switch between "sound + vibrate" and "vibrate", it works well for me. I believe there is also a silent option but I don't have that enabled to toggle. Also Shush is a great way to automatically turn your ringer back on after a set amount of time.

Silent/Vibrate modes on GB 2.3

It could be me but I can't seem to have the option of having:-
SILENT / VIBRATE / SOUND since moving to 2.3?
I used to be able to use volume keys to cycle through and via lockscreen swipe.
Last time I changed sound settings but option seems to have gone....
I can only access vibrate, no silent option. Must just be removed, I for one never used that option.
Although, if you go into setting>sound, you can change the 'Vibrate' option to 'Never' and this will enable complete silence.
Instructions
Go to > Settings > Sound > Vibrate ... Select 'Only when not in Silent mode'
You can then have Silent, Vibrate & Ringer

HTC kept it (along with others, including Cyanogenmod).
I've made an app to emulate it in 2.2+

in settings you need to "enable silent state".
I have to quote myself from another thread, sorry about that!

Go to Settings > Sounds > Vibrate
It'll give you 4 options that also affect the way volume keys and lockscreen works:
1. Always
Your phone will always vibrate, regardless of volume level, so in lockscreen when you slide for silent or pressing the volume keys all the way down, you'll be in vibrate only, never silent.
2. Never
It will never go to vibrate mode, no matter what.
3. Only when silent
Your phone will vibrate when in silent mode, so when you slide for silent in lockscreen or pressing the volume keys all the way down, you'll be in Vibrate Only
4. Only when not in silent
Your phone will vibrate when not in silent mode, so when you slide for silent in lockscreen or pressing the volume keys all the way down, you'll be in Silent Mode, no vibration.

[Q] Tasker - anyone having issues with vibrate not working on

I have a very simple profile set up to put my phone in silent mode during certain days and times. The profile is being executed as expected. I can go into Sound menu on the phone and see that the phone was put into silent mode. However, the silent and vibrate icons are not displayed in the notification bar. Even more troublesome, is that the phone wont actually vibrate when I get a call or notification. If I manually deselect and select silent, I will see both icons and the phone functions as expected. Is there perhaps some bug in Tasker that is not handling this correctly?
My phone is the Samsung Galaxy S2, rooted running Unnamed rom.
BUMP....sorry to bump this but was wondering if anyone has experienced this issue?
More information: I downloaded Sound Manager which is an app that shows the status of the various volume & vibrate settings. After Tasker has executed the profile to put my phone into silent mode, I used Sound Manager to doublecheck my vibrate status, and both calls and notifications are set to not vibrate at all even though in my phone settings I have vibrate on silent. When I change the call and notification vibrate settings in Sound Manager to vibrate on silent as well, I see the appropriate icons . This tells me that Tasker is doing something wrong when setting my phone to silent.
Any ideas?
I am having a similar problem
I set the "silent mode" to "vibrate" (in tasker) but I get an icon of silent instead of vibrate.
Same problem here, tasker puts phone in silent mode bud doesn't enable vibration (manually setting silent mode in statussbar works fine) looks like tasker bug to me.
Galaxy s2
Rom: KI4 rooted
EDIT:
HA! Found it! Silent Mode in tasker doesn't have 2 modes (ON and OFF). Instead it has 3 (on, VIBRATE, off). Set it to VIBRATE and you ar back in bussiness
Checked it - works. If others confirm we can mark this one solved
I have a very similar issue. I have a profile that is triggered when I am near two cell towers at my work. The actions put the Phone Ringer to volume 0 and enable vibrate, and I see the vibrate icon in the notification tray, but I've tested calling myself from my office phone, and the phone still rings at normal volume.
I'm using an LG G3, rooted and running stock ROM, Android 5.
similar issue for meI have a profile that activates when my phone sees the wifi at work will set the phone to silent mode (3 – vibrate). It works fine when I first get in as it will vibrate, but then after some unknown amount of time it will set the ringer back to wherever it was (like it exits the profile) but the profile is still active in tasker. If I manually reexecute the profile it will stay in vibrate the rest of the day. Ideas?

Random yet possibly stupid question

This maybe software opposed to hardware...
Just got my new titan sorted out last night and firstly - really happy with it! build is lovely, UI - love it, overall really nice feel to use.
However, the volume control - volume is ok, and vibrate is fine but is there a 'silent' with no vibrate mode? i cannot find it?
You can only have a "Silent no vibrate" setting if you turn off Vibration on the sound settings...the only down side is this turns off vibration in all situations so you have to manually toggle it in settings as you wish.
You've stumbled across what I believe is the most bone-headed problem with this OS: you have to choose between silent and vibrate in settings.
In other words, I think you should be able to tap the icon to switch between:
Ring > Ring with Vibrate > Vibrate > Silent
but no! There is a vibrate toggle under Settings > Ringtones and Sound. If you have it turned on, your ringer options are:
Ring with Vibrate > Vibrate
If you have it turned off, your ringer options are:
Ring > Silent
SO, if you're like me and pretty much just want to use Vibrate or Silent, you're stuck going into Settings EVERY TIME. Even more infuriating, if you're actually on the "Ringtones and Sound" page and pull down the ringer option with your volume rocker and hit the ringer icon, you can see that your choice toggles the "ringer" switch on the page - so clearly it wouldn't have been too much harder to have the "vibrate" toggled "remotely" as well.
I love this OS, but this single flaw drives me bananas.

Why not just turn the volume rocker to 0 for silent? Then you don't have to go to settings... or do you want other things to make sound?
MS has made weird choices for WP7. (Have they ever used a phone ?)
I suggest you to vote for this missing (basic) feature here :
http://windowsphone.uservoice.com/f...the-ring-vibrate-toggle-button-a-3-way-option
Have you also noticed you can't choose the volume level of the Alarm ?
Many "features" like this in WP7..

If you use the volume rocker to go to "0" and you have vibrate turned "off" in settings, then the ringer will turn to "silent" mode. If you use the rocker to go back above "0," then the ringer will turn to "ring" mode.
If you use the volume rocker to go to "0" and you have vibrate turned "on" in settings, then the ringer will turn to "vibrate" mode. If you use the rocker to go back above "0," then the ringer will turn to "ring+vibrate" mode.
There are four modes, but only two available at any given time based on whether you have "vibrate" enabled in settings.

vibration-mode doesn't mute notification sound

when I put my SGS3 in vibration-mode than the ring tone is muted, new calls will only be notified by vibration. o.k. so long... BUT: incoming text-messages are further notified by the notification sound!!! can someone confirm this issue? if yes that must be a bug! - every phone I owned in the last 15 years (and I'd a lot different types from different manufacturers) switched all sounds (notification, ring-tone and so on...) off in vibration mode! annoying... cheers Gerald
up - can really nobody confirm this bug?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Sent myself a text message in vibrate mode and it didn't make any notification sound. Did you drop down the drawer and use that icon to put it in vibrate? That's what I did.
Hope that helps!

that's exactly what I did, too! and vibration mode does not mute the notification sound, only the ring tone!
I found the solution!!! this was an issue of the tool "Volume Manager Free". Obviously this tool does any changes in the config of the "audio streams", and since I configured the audio streams inside the volume manager free (so that the ring-stream does also mute the notifcation stream, alarm stream...) - there is such an option in the settings of volume managaer free to configure that - all works fine! when I now put the phone in vibration mode, I can see that notifications are also muted, volume manager shows "notification muted by rington audio stream".... cheers Gerald

Silencing at night?

Android had this nice feature where you can silence the phone between XX:XXam and YY:YYpm...any know of an app that can replicate this feature in WP8?
TIA
Apps can't change system settings in Windows Phone. There is no automated functionality in the OS for this either. You will have to do that yourself in the evening.
Thanks - guess I will have to turn off my phone at night for the first time in years. Or maybe keep it in another room for the night.

When locked, you just press the vol button (either one) and then tap the sound/mute/vibe icon upper right. Takes a lot less time than turning off your phone. Or did you mean that?
And yeah, the app restrictions are still way too draconian in WP8.
I dont get a MUTE option - only ring+vibrate or just plain vibrate...?

Hi DPLOY
The vibrate function is separate. You turn the vibrate on/of in the "ringtones + sounds" settings. If you have vibrate on the button on the volume controls will toggle ring + vibrate and ring. With vibrate off it will toggle ring and mute.
God bless

Odd that there are two toggles rather than one three-state toggle for this functionality.

Why not just put the phone into Flight mode? Settings > Flight mode. Or install "Pin it" from the store and you can put the Flight mode toggle tile on your start screen. You can also add tiles for WiFi, Bluetooth and Mobile data too.
if you cant change settings through apps i guess you can also not use NFC patches to set settings
