Official Gingerbread screenshots? - Dell Venue

The video is the dell mobile app, it was from the android marketplace page for it.
The device seems to be a venue, the rom seems to be gingerbread.
The video is an official dell video.
The conclusion: mabye GB will be launched for unlocked devices too?

Looks promising. I hope it means that GB for unlocked Venues is just around the corner. Great find.

Skype Officially Arrives On The Android Market, No Galaxy S Support

Skype says they are working on the Galaxy S issues, but says it should work fine if you have Froyo. I guess the Captivate people running the leaked version will be happy. Hope we will either have the Skype fix, Froyo or a Dev who can work around the issue soon.
I can confirm it works well on Captivate with Android 2.2 JI6 from there
we still dont have official froyo so maybe someone can make or find a way for this to work, i mean we are supposed to have one of the best android devices in sgs and other work with skpe and this phone does not.
I managed to install it and it just brings the phone to a halt when i run it.
it is as if i was running a 50 mhz processor instead of the 1ghz we have
Shame really...

Dell Venue vs Dell Venue Pro

Lets say the Dell Venue does come out.. as stated
http://www.zdnet.com/blog/gadgetrev...ell-venue-launching-in-korea-this-month/20811
We do get our DVP as notified....
Whats the chance you wonderful Android Chefs out there could cook up an 2.2 Android ROM based on teh Dell Venue, that would work on the Dell Venue Pro, and still let us use our keyboard.. (DLL off Motorola Charm or Droid Pro maybe..?)
Just thinking out loud..
Please lets not start this "i want android" crap! If you want an android phone why not just buy one in the first place?
Maybe because he prefers Android with a Keyboard?
You probably prefer WP7, but Since Dell is releasing the Venue pro with Android there's a good chance the DVP will be able to run it too...
It's still XDA, cooking up roms is the one reason why we're here

Epic 4G, G2, Droid Pro, rumoured Shift 4G - tons of options for android keyboard devices. No need to clutter the forum with the inevitable "WP7 is crap, android is better" BS that is in practically every other forum.
Well,
I'm with you, no need to clutter, but if you're in love with the look of the DVP but need the keyboard, that's the best option you have...
Guess making a sub-forum for this questions makes best for both worlds?
with the consensus android is a nice addition but definitely not needed. I am much happier with wp7
I ask because I LOVE the DVP form factor.. and I have three HUGE issues with WP7.
Tethering.. I HAVE to have a phone that tethers. Keeping two lines (one DVP and one my Dash3G) is BS.
Storage.. Why should I keep a thumb drive around when I have a phone with 8-32GB of storage ?
Customizing some basic things. Like not having all my pictures in the picture hub, ALL my facebook contacts in my People hub.. If I have some videos or pictures of a personal nature I would like a way to hide them from being easily seen in my hub should I want to show some less personal pictures to friends, etc..
That said, I personally am not a fan of Android.. and with my time with HD7 I found that I really like WP7 the 99% of the time I am using if for a phone, or texting, etc..
Personally I am seeing a lot of what WM7 could have been in andriod when it comes to customizations and other features. Heck looke at HTC sense on 6.5.3 and HTC sense on the EVO 4G. They arent that much different, heck if WM6.5 had added more active widgets and such, to a PRODUCTION phone it may not have been given such a bad rep. Look at the 3VO and other cooked ROMS here. A LOT of them are better than iOS or any Andriod I have used, but a lot of those features were never added to a production phone.
I digress.. when it comes to andriod.. the new Netfront UI for andriod looks awesome. There are also a ton of apps that simply arent being done for WP7 yet. So.. Long story short... I like personalizing and customizing my phone. I may get over that with WP7.. I may not. Be great if I had an option to play with a Andriod ROM on my DVP, and then go back to WP7 and so forth. Even be cooler if I had the ability to dual boot. But I doubt highly with the way WP7 deals with the SD cards that would be possible.
In any case not trying to get into a WM6 vs Andriod vs WP7 which is better conversation.. they all have thier pluses and minuses. Just curious if anyone thinks it would be possible to put andriod on a DVP should the need arise.
Or even better.. anyone try putting a WM6.5.3 ROM on a WP7 yet? I havent checked..

Would that be the one that fits in my hand perfectly.. and has a slide out portrait keyboard.. and a nice vibrant screen.. ? OR the fragile huge phone with no keyboard.
I guess I could get a new tilt2.. but it doesnt have a portait keyboard and a smaller darker screen.
The whole reason for this thread.. is the DVP is a UNIQUE form factor.. and one of the most beautiful phones I have ever owned. If they made it with WM6.5.3 it would be my first choice. But since they don't make it that way.. it would be awesome to have a Energy 6.5.3 Rom for the DVP Personally thats my favorite UI to date.

Agreed.. they are both good in thier own way.
Im starting to like WP7.. its just so different.
As I mentioned, personally I like WM6.5.3 but know I am in the minority there..
I was praying and crossing my fingers the HTC Throphy (The mock up from last year and not the WP7 phone) that would come out before WP7 launched. As that looked to be my ideal phone.
I only started this thread because if the Venue and Venue Pro ar the same hardware, I wouldn't mind trying Android on my DVP (and mybe play witht he Netfront UI and other things) and possibly switching back to WP7.
Although as I mentioned.. I would gladly pay if someone could find a way to boot the Latest WM6.x Energy Rom onto my DVP.. I would be in heaven then.
Engadget Hands-on with the Dell Venue:
http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/23/dell-venue-launched-in-hong-kong-we-go-hands-on/
Id pay some good money to see android on the dell venue pro. I like windows phone 7 but the OS is still a bit young.. there's certain things I like better on android and no im not trying to cause a debate or argument.. im just sayin, if the dell venue comes out, how hard would it be to make that compatible with the dvp..I love my dvp by the way, especially the slide out keyboard
It would be great if WP7 and Android can be run on Dell Venue and DVP.
Anyone try yet? Or has anyone gotten the ROM off a Dell Venue?
bump, I'd like to see this get done, and I'd pay some good money for it too!
Bump... Just wondering if anyone has rooted the Venue and figured a way to install on the DVP yet..?
I've started a Bounty on Android on the DVP here:

[Q] Question about Honeycomb on the streak

I saw online that someone is working towards getting honeycomb to the Streak.
my question is what will happens with the phone functionality, can honeycomb handle calls and contacts and all that since is for tablets only
thanks in advance
Are you really sure that streak will get the update?????
at least custom port
http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/08/dell-streak-gets-honeycomb-sdk-port-finally-looks-like-a-real-t/
Look in this same forum for a thread by DJ_Steve titled "hum dee ho hum me bored" or something like that.
He is the developer working on this. He is the guy who has made the previous custom ROMs for the Streak (StreakDroid.com v1.7.0 currently), and he has done tremendous work so far. I would imagine that when he gets it working, it will have to include phone call features for it to even be considered successful. I use my Streak as my primary device, so it would have to have the phone for me to consider using it at all.
However, that being said, it is not an "official" update of any kind. This is something he does in his spare time and he has been successful so far. He has already pulled some of the info out of the Streak 7" to improve his Streak ROM so far (lcd density over 200, for instance), and the Streak 7" would be a good candidate for Honeycomb (dual-core processor, etc). Therefore, I would assume that as Honeycomb becomes more availible, it will eventually get ported by DJ_Steve to the Streak 5, using all the good features of Honeycomb while still having phone features.
PS: Honeycomb is not EXCLUSIVELY for tablets, but it was designed with a focus on tablet usability. Meaning, it should work on phones just fine.
Locking this thread and moving to Q&A as Steve has a thread open on Honeycomb

[Q] pictures of 2.32 for me

Can someone upload pics of 2.3.2 rom by jerpelea for me. I can't see what all the hype is about. people are already making a jump to gingerbread and I have no idea what it looks like. I am using 2.2 by z which is amazing. Just want to see what all the talk is about. thanks. I didn't see the pics on jerpelea's forum.
There are a few pictures in the second post. I also made a video of v0009 and a brief video of the screen off animation (as can be seen in my signature) on my youtube channel. If you are happy with Z's Beta 4, stick with it. It has the camera working whereas the newest version of 2.3 does not have it implemented yet. I would upgrade if you want the "Coolness" factor of having Gingerbread when no one else has it yet. It's only a minor upgrade as of now. IMO, there are not any must have features on the phone except for the screen off and on animations (screen on lags at the moment) and the sound equalizer. Hope this helps and definitely check out my vids.
Peace.

YEAH...Just downloaded last night here in malaysia, total 212mb. Android 3.2.1, HTC Sense 1.1. Software 3.60.707.4. Been playing with since this morning, so far so good, smooth enough for a single core tablet.

does the phone call function work on this version?
Just updated to Honeycomb today! At last the official update came to Singapore.
I love it that I can use the pen almost anywhere. So far all my frequently used apps work well on HC. Some apps like the market and Gmail look better since they're now the tablet versions.
Sent from my HTC Flyer P510e using XDA App
Phone function still not working in this version

Hi,
I got a notification for updating my FLYER to Honey Comb v.3.2. Currently I'm on stock GB 2.3.4.
I havent applied the FOTA, because I am not sure about the usability of the new ROM. It says that the function of the 3 soft butons (whether vertical or horizontal) will be disabled and it will use the one available in the screen (under the HC) instead. This will reduce the screen area. I dont want my 7 inch tablet to be reduced to 6 inch just because of updating to HC.
So, could you confirm about the issue above?
Thanks in advance

Yes the 3 buttons are disabled. Some are bothered by it but I don't mind. HC has better UI plus the pen works everywhere now.

any update om Honeycomb for india folks?????
Cheers,
Renga
When I had called up HTC support few days back, at first the support person (as expected) did not know much about HC update..fortunately, he checked with tech. team & could at least say that they are currently working on HC update for India..not sure about release date, though..
However, reading through the Flyer forums, I get the impression that GB is better than the HC update..so, not too keen on it at the moment..
