Words with Friends Update - Not working? - Nook Color Themes and Apps

Has any CM7 users recently updated WWF? I did a couple days ago, and now its getting a FC upon opening. When I view the report crash info, it mentions "Screen size not currently supported"
Just wondering if anyone else had this problem?

Yes! I had the same problem as well. In the mean time, I've been forced to use an older version.

My wife is pretty angry about this bug. Anyone find a solution other than using an older version? Anyone have a version that works that they can upload?

Words works for me if I change my lcd density from 160 to 180 or 200.

I thought about trying this. Last time I changed my LCD Density, a few other things got messed up.
I have just been using my Evo, until an update comes out, but may just have to resort to an older version. Seems like the easiest way for now.

Changed LCD to 180, and it works, plus I really like the overall look of the nook now. Icons arent spaced out too weirdly, and bigger fonts make me feel less blind.

I noticed an update available on my transformer today for words with friends. On the nook, it says the app is incompatible and won't update. i was hoping it was going to fix the last update. They suck.

The old version that I found was from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1220069

you don't need to increase it all the way into the eighties; if you change the density to 161 it will work and it won't cause the rest of your widgets to funkify

This is exactly what I did with my girl's NC. Downloaded LCDDensity from the market and bumped it to 161. No strangeness with the widgets and words started perfectly. Thanks!

You could also buy it from the BN store. Their version looks a bit cleaner and works I think at 160 or 161.

Anyone having issues with the newest update. Seems it won't connect to the server.

Yes it was acting up...
I used the dark mod now and don't update. No ads and cleaner:

The update from just a day ago works fine now.

[Q] How to bypass new market checks? (not talking about licence related checks)

I'm surprised to see I am the only person I have seen with this issue; either that or I'm looking in the wrong places. About a week or so ago, my android market was updated to the newest version, ever since then it has been a nightmare. apps that I have been using for over a year now say there not compatible, when I know for a fact they are. I recently flashed the latest CM7 nightly and when I brought the market back up, some of my apps said they were already installed when they in fact were not, however there was no way to override this so I just seemed to be sol.
The final straw was this; I wanted to install "multiling keyboard", so I went to the market and there was no download button to be found. So I went to the market on my PC and found that it listed my EVO and my modded HD2, it said the app was compatible with both handsets believe it or not. However it said the the app was already installed on my EVO, which at the time it was not. I searched for hours and found no way around this. So I tried a different Google account, thinking maybe it was linked with that account. I then searched for the app again, and believe it or not, It then told me that the app was not compatible, log back into the other account, and the app is listed as compatible but also listed as already installed with no way to override.
So now I find the only way to install certain apps is to uninstall the market updates so it goes back to the old market, then I can download whatever I want no questions asked. However its only temporary because within 15min it will automatically update itself again.
Get titanium, freeze market updater. Had the same issue
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Ok I froze the market updater, and then downgraded the market app from 3.0.27 to 2.3.6. It seems to be working, I'll post back if I have any issues.
However even though this is a fine workaround for now, does anyone know of a way to just fix the issue? obviously we all cant just stay at an older version of the market forever.
Google has been rubbing me the wrong way for about a year now, but this has really got my blood boiling. I don't need someone telling me what they think is already on my phone what whats not. I also don't need someone telling me whats compatible and whats not. I can fully understand licensing restrictions, don't like 'em, but i get it. but as for these new checks they implemented, there needs to be a bypass feature. Either have a "I am not an idiot" setting in your account, or just a button that says "I understand the risk, Install anyway". But this is ridiculous, something has to be done. I have already sent Google a letter, doubt anyone will read it, but i sent it.
I would also love for a solution to this... not a reversion...
Anybody out there have any clue where to start? I have been searching high and low and cant find much of anything.
ITS THE LCD DENSITIES! lol. Do you change your lcd density to? Because when I change mine back the market works fine
I never thought of that, but yes I do change my LCD density, I have it set to 200 instead of 240. That explains the incompatible issue. I'm still sol though, I'm not going to change my build.prop every time I want to use the market. Also I'm still having issues with it saying that apps are already installed on my phone when they are not.
Thankfully ugothakd's suggestion is working great for now. I hope we can get this figured out. If not its just going to end up being one of those things we will have to wait forever for Google to fix.
android market compatability issues
Thank you ugothakd! I change my density from 200 to 240. Now I have access to google maps and youtube. Really sucks though I like my density set to 200. I am surprised that people are not having more problems with this dumb market.
I don't mean to bring this back from the dead. But has there been any word on this issue? I'm still stuck at an old version of the market. I've tried updating and every time I still have the same issues. Its all over my screen density, if I change it from 200 to 240 the market works fine.
I have the same issue my self i have a htc desire and now with new market to apps that are missing
if i click on link in google to point to market for app all i get is this app ain't compatible with your device when i know for fact that it do
im starting to get pissed off with it as i used the new market before it was released over here in uk and now after i update my cm rom this is all i get or the app don't show in first place
google really need to add an option to disable this feature ie under options for people who know the risks of trying to run apps that may not be intended for the device as i personally have found nearly all apps work on my phone rarely come across any that don't even all the old apps tend to work if anything this new feature is a pain in the rear so so annoyed at this
P.s screen density has nothing to do with it with me i found new market added a new device to my list yet it's the same phone i leave my screen at 240 its default hope this gets sorted soon
Sorry to bring up an old thread but has anyone resolved the issue. I love my LCD density at 180 and setting it back to 240 just to install an application really irks me.

Market 3.3.11

Just in case anyone hasn't seen this yet
http://rootzwiki.com/_/articles/download-android-market-update-3311-r94
That's where I read about it.(someone mentioned it in another thread also...sorry can't remember your name...ill edit if u reply )
Here is a direct download link also found at bottom of the rootzwiki article http://lts.cr/BDW_
I just installed it and so far it looks great. They have finally brought back the "top NEW free" and "top NEW paid" sections for those that.miss that. I know I did.
some new settings options and nice UI tweaks.
I haven't made any purchase/download yet though. Will updated this post when I do.
Hopefully google got it right this time
If you do this I would recommend making a copy of your current vending.apk in case you want to go back. I just used root explorer and copied the apk to my sdcard and installed the new market after that as normal.
Have fun
::::::UPDATE::::::
For all those who are cautious
I have successfully bought apps, updated apps, downloaded new apps, and also downloaded apps I had previously bought but hadn't had installed.
Also when you look at an app it shows you how many of each different star ratings it has.
I.e.-- 5stars:20 users
4stars:60 users
3stars:30 users
Etc..
Working smoothly all around. Much better than 3.1.5 or 3.1.3 imho
thanks man, will be uploading now!!!
I'm loving the new market. It's very polished now. The icons are now sized properly on the screen.
thx im loving the auto update
I upgraded last night and am still running into compatibility issues with certain apps ... ended up going back to trusty 2.3.6.
Is there anyone running build.prop edits (in particular, enhanced screen resolution) who has been able to get this version of the market working without any restrictions?

Yeah finally there is no lag when switching between the screens. But it's NOT faster than the old version. :/

I don't really mess wit build.prop other than vm heap, max window events, wifi scan interval.
and I have not once ever had a compatibility issue.
Did you send feedback about that to google?
They might have something you can do or may work on it for future market versions

[Q] "Device not compatable" in Google Martket

I tried to download ShadowGun onto my TP running CM9, and it says that my device is incompatable.........why?.....
Also tried it with Need for Speed Shift.....
Oh, btw, both are on sale for $0.49
The touchpad is not running official android so some apps, usually games, don't recognize it as compatible even when it is. You will want to change the build.prop file to an official android device with similar hardware, if I was on my desktop id give u the exact device

Downloaded fine for me. Plays pretty smooth too. Running cm9 alpha 2.

Also, if you've changed your LCD density, a lot of apps will show up incompatible. You can either change it back to 160, or use an app like lcd density pro to download a modded market apk that will work with your custom screen density, while making the market think you are still running 160.

Thanks for recommending lcd density pro I was a little skeptical about paying ~$3 for it but it seems to work great with the app market where I change my DPI to 132 the native DPI of the Touchpad.
You may want to try the "rohan" update here in the Dev section. It changes a bunch of stuff in your build.prop file. I was able to download and start Shadowgun last night (I didn't really try playing). I still had problems with Dead Space, and haven't tested any of the Gameloft games yet.

Using chat in Words With Friends on CM9?

I can't seem to figure out how to access the chat portion in words with friends. I can barely see the chat box on the right hand side of the screen and can access the typing area and the keyboard comes up but I can't figure out how to shift the box over to see what the other person is typing. I'm on cm9 with one of the march nightlies. Anyone else have this problem? Any fix? I can upload a picture if you don't know what I mean but I assume this is a widespread problem.
+1 on this. i love how the app is but something is def not right with the screen size or something. anyone have it working correctly?
Same problem here. I can't even send chat. To let friends know it doesn't work for me. If I have time I will try to change video to that
120 size and see if that helps. looks like the game is set up for a wider screen. Hope they give us a way to adjust it.
My mom is limited in how she can text me and we were using wwf on a regular basis. Real nice app when it works.

What version of words are you using on the cm9 touchpad? I can't seem to get any of the versions to run. 4.50 seems to run correctly but it forces an update to 4.6, which doesn't seem to work. Are you running the nightly?

I haven't had any problems getting any versions of WWF to run on any of the CM 9 nightlies. I do have the chat problems. I've tried it at 120, 132, and 160 dpi. It seems to be a little messed up in all of them. At 120 and 132 parts of the game board are obscured. It also doesn't seem to update game status correctly all the time. My phone is always up-to-date no matter which device I played on last. Sometimes the touchpad will be days behind and hard to get to update.

Help changing dpi

Hey guys,
I am running jasmine ROM 4.0,the latest version and im having trouble lowering the dpi. I want to lower the dpi to 420 but when i do the phone/contacts app stops working and so does quick remote (i havent tested every so, those are the two I've noticed). I have tried 560 which works but is still a bit big for me. I tired 480 but I have the same issue. Does any one know how to fix this? It worked fine on the aosp/cm based roms but I like the stock roms better so far and don't want to switch
Edit: the same issue happens on all the stock roms I've tried.
Bump. This is still a really annoying issue for me. Can anyone help?

Have you confirmed others are able to go that low?
I don't know what the limits are, but I would think at some point apps physically wouldn't be able to adapt. This may be the issue, just guessing though.

I think by others you mean either apps or roms. And it would be yes both. Only the apps I mentioned in the OP didn't work. I didnt test every app, but a lot of them worked fine. Also, aosp roms don't seem to have this issue, obviously quick remote isn't on aosp roms, but none of the apps I use on aosp/cm based roms had an issue. I also tried changing the dpi to 420 for the whole system, than using an xposed module to change just the dpi of the apps I knew didn't work to stock. But I had issues with network connectivity. I'm going to try just changing the dpi of the apps I want and know work to 420.
Sorry about this post. I wiped my phone and started from scratch and just changed the dpi of a few spots, including Nova launcher with app settings from xposed and it seems to work now.

Glad you got it worked out.
