Wireless Tethering Issues? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

OK guys i feel like ive exhausted all my resources and so im now posting a thread...
i cant seem to get wireless tethering working on the galaxy s II for the life of me. ive tried a few different roms the stock rom and a few different apps including barnacle and wi-fi tether. they both dont report any errors i connect perfectly but my computer says there is no internet connection, my upload rate will go up on the phone but download is 0. any idea whats going on?
Thanks ahead of time,
Sean

Try using a different computer. Never know, could be a network setting on the one you're using.
What rom are you currently on and, if needed, what steps have you taken to get it to work?

Currently running cm7, ive tried the routing fix option ive tried a few different computers (mac and pc), reinstalled cleared data etc, im not really sure what else to try at this point.

Ok so i just tested it on my room mates ipad and it works fine, i see the download and upload rates moving. but still no luck on his mac, my win 7 laptop or my xp tower.

That is odd. Hopefully someone with more cm7 experience will help you out.
You can try searching google, as using cm7 on other phones will (for the most part) be the same directions.

ok now im on a stock rooted rom, i backed up and removed the tetheringmanger.apk using titanium. now my computer says it has internet but wont load pages.

Wow you're just not getting a break, are you?
Try downloading a tethering app off the market like barnacle.

Maybe try someone else's computer.
On the off chance your pc's have been set up a certain way for network access.
*I just thought of as I was typing this, what wireless networks are around you? You may be getting ip conflicts between the networks*

Can't connect wifi???

Hey everyone. I have a problem connecting via wifi. When I first bought my vibrant I was able to connect just fine on stock rom. Now I have done all the rooting and flashing many times. Tried many roms. Im on nero v3 right now. Every rom I tried I was not able to connect through wifi at all. I don't use wifi calling or need it. I just want to be able to browse through wifi. When I go to turn on wifi it keeps looping from connecting to disconnecting and no wifi icon pops up at all. My router does have a security and I entered the right password but still no connection. Can somebody help??? Maybe im doing something wrong here. Again it has done the same with any rom I've tried.

I had to get off the 80211.n to get it work. The roms have all done this so far.
Even my wifes stock vibrant was effected by my phone.
Then I just swapped my older router back in. G network. And it works.
All I know. I have never seen this answered.
All they do is ask have you done this or that.
Not one person has ever fixed it for me. Sorry.
Lastly seems to work if you disable security on the router.
That sucks.

Hmm I can't remember if my router is g or n. Im gonna have to check. Ur right tho I searched all over and can't find anyone with the same problem. Closest I came across is the wifi calling problem that everyone has. I even downloaded a supposedly good wifi calling apk for ****s and giggles but that didn't help either. Its irritating

I know this sounds silly but when this happened to me, restarting the modem, then the router, then try connecting again. This did the trick for me. Just be sureties do it in this order. Hope this helps.

Connect to ad-hoc wifi

Hi guys, long story short, I really need to connect to my desktop via ad-hoc, since where I am at I don't have a router. I need to get my phone and pc connected so I can use the various remotes on my vibrant...
Would this mod work? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=754961
, if not, is there a solution?
I am using bionix 1.3.2 test.
Thanks!!!

I've tried to do this before with no successes. The research I did lead me to the conclusion that our phone is unable to recognize an ad-hoc network. I would be delighted if someone is able to get it working though

Android does not support it normally, but I use this patch on both my g1 and vibrant and have no issues with it. Works fine ( I use it along with barnacle to get both phones online using only 1 sim card and tethering).

If your using windows 7, then you can use the connectify me technique: http://www.connectify.me/
It shares your internet connection without having to rely on an adhoc network.
or if you don't have windows 7, (this might not be useful for your application), but you can share your computers internet connection using the USB tether on your phone (some call it reverse tethering): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=793102
Of course I dont know how useful this would be as you'd be wired via USB, but I thought I'd mention it.

[Q] WiFi Hotspot Issues running ATT based ROMs

I have an issue when running ATT based ROMs like Aura and Alien.
When I activate the Hotspot on my Phone, the PC connects and gets an IP, but no Internet. While running ORFR based ROMs, everything works!
Any suggestions to fix my issue? Keeping in mind that when I flash ATT based ROMs, I flash ATT radio too.
Tried on Kholks Kernel and faux123 Kernel, the Phone is purchased from OrangeUK.
Hi
Did you ever find a resolution to this issue?
I'm currently experiencing this issue with Alien-4 and I'm pretty certain I was using it without any issues on stock 4.5.91 ROM.
I searched through some threads and thought it might have been an APN issue but I've tried the bundled APNs with the Alien-4 ROM as well as deleting them and adding new ones with the settings from ausdroid. I've tried it both on Telstra and Optus and cannot seem to work it out.
Assuming you are using a rom that allows it, try using this to help rule whether it's an APN or an app problem:
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
I have used this program to great success in the past.

Hi xfinrodx
That little app works although due to the stock kernel included with Alien-4 I stuck with a completely open connection. I figure it's the stock motorola mobile hotspot app that's the issue, did you have any suggestions on how to resolve this issue? Would reloading the hotspot app fix this?
Thanks in advance
I'm pretty well sure I used encryption with this app and Alien... Just take another quick peek at the settings page in the app to be sure if you don't mind. :-/ It always gives the "access control" warning to me, but hasn't inhibited my encryption. Near as I can tell that relates more to ipconfig type stuff.
As for using the stock application... I would probably first go into CWM, "fix permissions," clear cache and dalvik then try again. If that fails, I would attempt to remove the stock tether app through titanium backup and reinstall from some .apk if I could find one. Failing these, I would reflash.
Hopefully you can work it out and post your method for others to find!

Thanks again for your reply xfinrodx
I'm currently inbetween jobs so I have a bit more time to look into it. What I think the issue for me is, is that the wireless hotspot assigns itself as the dns server to the device connecting to it. Now I just need to somehow specify a dns to assign or force the client to use a specific dns
Thanks

What OS are you trying to tether? Self-specifying dns addresses is commonly done and generally very easy. I personally recommend google's dns. 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 if memory serves me... Anyway, I think google has a write up for you on their dns page that is better than I could throw together in a reasonable amount of time!
Do try this as a troubleshooting step, but don't be too surprised when it doesn't help. I have a sneaking suspicion the problem lies elsewhere, though I know not exactly where. Hopefully this is it!

I'm trying to tether my Asus TF101 running 3.2.1 as well as a mate's ipad2. Neither worked. I've looked high and low on my TF101 and haven't been able to locate the DNS settings.
If you go to wifi settings-[menu button]-advanced there should be something in there... You might need to manually specify everything from there, but it's a shot. I'm away from my tablet at the moment or I'd look.

[Q] Wireless tether issue

Okay i am running liquid thunderbread v2.6 and for some reason when i activate wireless tether the app in the setting activates as well and cancels wireless tether out so i have to manually set up a wifi connection each time. Is this a known issue or is there a fix for it. I was thinking maybe there was way to delete the stock tethering setting but havent found anything so far.
Thanks in advance for any tips tricks and help.
I've been having odd issues with any and all WiFi tether apps.
Like only v 2.0.7 of Wifi-Tether works for older devices such as my old Droid1 and such, but I cant enable WEP on it.
Now on Barnacle, I can use WEP and my iPad/laptop sees my phone, except my Droid1 and some other wifi devices cant see it.
And the latest version of Wifi-tether, doesn't work at all for my phone.
I'm running stock GB OTA update with revoked-root methahod.
Weird yea all my devices see it but for some reason they cant connect because the stock one in the settings cancels it out and I have to manually enter it in

[Q] ssh droid

hello,
i have been visiting this site for a while now and it has been extremely useful.
i have recently registered because i got a lot of help from here and because im having a trouble which couldn't find the answer to anywhere.
i have a cf-rooted galaxy s2 i9100 firmware xwkk5, i came across with an amazingly comfortable app called ssh droid which allows me to extract or transfer files from or to my phone through wifi, unlike blue tooth its faster and easier.
i have managed to get the app working except for one gruesome side affect: soon after using the app i could no longer use internet connection on my phone through wifi, the only way to fix this was through disabling 3g and wifi and reconnect to wifi, only that a few moments later the problem would surface again and i couldnt use the internet even though it would appear like im connected to wifi and all is good.
the app has not affected 3g surfing only wifi surfing.
i had to wipe and flash to stock rom twice in order to fix this issue since even deleting the app proved to be useless, so frankly even though i would like to use this app very much it also looks a bit risky.
has anyone heard of this problem before?
any help would be appreciated.
I use quickSSHd, it's a payed app but I haven't had any problems with it.
