Battery Life - HTC Rezound

Here's my results so far.
So, after 8 hours or so, 50% battery life... 4G service, 3-4 bars whole time.
Everything looked ok, other than one thing... Skype... Which I did not open today, kept the phone awake for 41 minutes... hmmmmm! Also had about 30 minutes of browser time, and 52 min of display time. This includes probably about 20 emails pushed down and about 50-60 texts sent and recieved total. Display is definately a battery hog!
Uptime - 8:23
Awake time - 2 hours.
So battery life isn't great, but its running about on part with my DInc, and that one had Nils ROM on it.
I'd love to know why Skype kept the phone awake like that... Never got opened this morning, and I freshly booted it this morning after bump charging it.

i had an older version of Skype that i was using for some time(i just liked that particular release because it gave me the least 'issues').. anyway, lately i'd notice that the skype icon was showing that it was constantly attempting to "reconnect".. and upon inspecting battery use, skype had managed to use 42%. i finally gave in, uninstalled the version i had & then installed the latest build and now it's not doing that anymore.

So about 6% per hour, which is where my Dinc was when left on 3G. When left on Wifi and untouched during a busier day at work, it'd be around 2-3% per hour. I've left mine untouched for the past 2 hours or so, and System Monitor shows battery usage pretty much flat, with 4G on. So it looks like this shouldn't be much worse than the Dinc with light usage.

Hmm, I just installed it from the market to check out to see if video calls were supported. Worked well, I'll probably just uninstall it. I did the reg. Skype version rather than the VZW version.

Yeah - it seems like its about the same as my DInc has been, although I feel like under constant use, the RZ holds up for a little longer (like surfing the net, etc)

5 hrs on batteryand I'm @ 98%

Given the recent run of battery posts, i thought i would join in. Yes you read it correctly; 98% after 5 hrs on battery. Thats with an up-time of 8:20, and an awake time of 1:51. During that time i checked and replied to a couple of emails(opened a photo attached) looked at pics in the gallery, and watched a 30 second video w/max volume three times. Also checked the weather several times to update the 5-day forecast.
So whats the secret? Dont open up any of the other screens after you reboot. Or, you can remove whatever you have on there and have only one active screen.
Heres the proof ( sorry about the crappy pic, all i had was my old Hero)
How do you do it can you explain a little better

Well, I don't have a picture, but my battery is down 2 bars on the screen you are showing...so roughly 80% I guess. I have up time showing 39:17:xx and awake time of 12:51:xx. I've looked at some pictures of my cat several times (had to put him to sleep yesterday due to a degenerative disc disease that finally damaged his spinal cord to where he couldn't walk anymore ) I did a lot of texting, e-mailing, some web surfing, and updating some programs from the market. I also talked on the phone for about an hour.
What did I do for this? Well, the only account sync I have is GMail, all the other crap is turned off. I have the LCD brightness locked at about 20% (auto brightness unchecked), I use WiFi whenever possible since 3G sucks the battery, and the only widget I have running is the HTC Sense weather/clock thing. It is set to update every 4 hours. Otherwise pretty basic stuff.
Uptime and awake time don't mean anything in regards to your claim. That just means, since you last rebooted your phone has been up for 8 hrs 20 min, etc. What you have to show to backup your claim is the time since unplugged...

Well, I don't really have to prove anything to you. We are not in court and I am not on trial. However, I can tell you I wake up every morning at 7:30 and unplug my phone which means, at the very least, the awake time is accurate. I didn't realize up time was only since last reboot. But still, sitting at 8/10 bars at 13 hours. If you don't believe it, then don't.

OK, so its was on battery for 5 hours and I unplugged it at that time. Im not trying to brag, cause frankly the battery was pretty crappy for the first week. I believe the stand-by time on this phone is awesome, Im more concerned about how fast the battery drains once you start using it.

When you reboot your phone, the only active screen is the home screen. If you long-press the Home button, you will see the other six screens blank. I left the other screens the way they came from the factory and found out that if you even look at them once, they seem to remain active even if they are not being updated.
I was charging my phone before I went to bed, and waking up with 95% (yes I minimized all the background updates). Then I would drive to work with BT on and it would go to 93%. 12 hours later, after two text messages and two voice mails, Im at 70%. Sure my up time was 19 hrs, but my awake time was 40 minutes max. So basically you need to keep everything but the essentials off your screens. This is my experience, as im sure there are people out there on 4G 8 hrs a day who come home with 50%+ on their phone.
Can I put apps on those screens so basically no widgets on any screen but the home

You don't have GPS enabled. That's cheating.
3G (or WiFI, 4G enabled) GPS, auto sync, backlighting, widgets, exchange, twitter, facebook, live wallpaper, all the reasons we bought the phone?! Those should be running at all times. (Otherwise, what exactly is the point? Srsly?)
If the battery life is still 3 hours then I am expecting a phone that hasn't and won't be built for 20 years.

I think we use our phones very differently. I like those features but I don't have them on all the time. I use the GPS when I need to use a GPS. I look at FB or Twitter when I have time to look at them. Live wallpaper, while cute, doesn't do much for me. Exchange and Gmail push is about all I use regularly.

I get about the same when I'm working a 10-14. That's with checking exchange email, background sync and data on, sending texts on a normal basis, brightness about 30-40%, checking fb, etc etc. Battery doesn't drain much at all for me while it's sleeping which is great when I'm working these shifts and don't care to bring a charger.
Using GPS with location on and Sprint Navigation will drain that beast though, but that's expected.

Damn your finely worded post. Now I feel the sudden urge to re-evaluate my obsession with live wallpapers so I don't feel like a lame kid that likes something "cute"

I had a epic 4g with extended battery 3500 mah and I would constantly use the phone even while at work.. At the end of the day my battery would be at 50%. On my evo 3d I use the phone even more now because its new and my battery would still be 50 % at the end of the day.
Fairly impressed
Doesnt the GPS only draw power if an app is actually using it at the time? So does it matter if you leave it on
Im pretty sure that if you leave your GPS on it will be put into "stand-by" mode, which in effect draws power. I could be wrong tho

that aint proof at all
use a program like battery status, that'll actually tell us how long its been since it was off the charger
but even from this, shows your phone doing a lot of sleeping
we'd be more impressed with a lot of battery left after actually USING the phone
I shut everything off that im not using. Only time my battery life sucks is when Im at work and get very low signal. That drains the crap out of the battery.
Plus I use Juice Defender, seems to provide some improvement.
After being unplugged and having used it as I described, after 20 hours I still had 68% of my battery charge. I don't have juice defender, but I made the adjustments I mentioned and the one I forgot to mention is I also turned off location services.
So far I am pretty happy with the battery life, but I also remember with the Epic I had amazing battery life for a month or so and then it was more like what is "average" for that phone. I'm no scientist, but I would guess that brand new lithium batteries do a little better and then when the chemicals start breaking down you lose that "little extra."
Sorry, I guess I should have included two pics. I do have battery status and it showed 5:05 since off the charger. I chose to post the other pic since I thought it meant more in terms of use. Sure it doesn't tell you how I was using it, just that it want sleeping for half of that time. Im not trying to impress anyone, i just thought it was a huge improvement from the past week where 5 hours off charger showed 70% battery left with only 40 minutes of up time (which resulted form a couple of VM and texts). So my point was along the lines of; more use, but huge improvement in battery consumption.

20hours, and almost 70% left?
i say super BS
because you know at that rate you can go almost 3 days with no charge right?
i know the evo 3d battery has bout 150 more mah then the 4G, but c'mon son

The Battery on this thing is a monster

I've not been able to drain this thing since I got it a week and a half ago. I have to say that I like to charge things over night. I've not been able to get the Photon below 40% before I go to bed each night.
I hear that you need to drain it full at least once but my habit of charging things overnight is getting in the way. Should I just let it go overnight one night?
I was under the impression that completely draining Lithium Ion batteries causes more harm than good.
"The smaller the depth of discharge, the longer the battery will last. If at all possible, avoid frequent full discharges and charge more often between uses. If full discharges cannot be avoided, try utilizing a larger battery. Partial discharge on Li-ion is fine; there is no memory and the battery does not need periodic full discharge cycles other than to calibrate the fuel gauge on a smart battery."
http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/how_to_prolong_lithium_based_batteries
Also, i'm sitting at 46% after 15 hours of normal (for me) use. not to shabby. I should mention i'm running Juice Defender and build 4.5.1A-1_SUN-198_5 from the dev. forums and i'm connected to WiFi 90% of the time.
going to try tomorrow without Juice Defender and see how it does. After that i'm going to disable SPB Shell and see if that makes a difference.
Thank you sir. I don't want to root my phone so don't run Juice Defender but I do use the Data Saver in stock a lot. I usually just listen to a lot of music and look for new stuff on FB, check XDA forums blah blah blah, yada yada yada...
I'll not feel paranoid about charging my phone now lol.
Now with my tablet (Acer Iconia A500) I did root and load a bunch of different stuff. This is my first cell phone though and I didn't want to mess with something that I have to pay a monthly charge for. I know I could but it's my first cell phone lol.
How much are you guys using it? For me, I use about 30min talking, 1 hr heavy wifi use, 1 hr light wifi use (reading), 30 minutes playing with settings, and the rest of the day idle...that gets me to about 30%.
I actually thought that is kind of weak. Maybe my battery isn't as healthy as yours? I've only had it for 5 days. I charge it every night.
I use it for about 7 to 8 hours of music, FB updates/posting, checking XDA, about 10 minutes of calls and so far some Netflix watching just to show off the phone to my peeps. Oh and some picture taking.
I am the same way I hate to discharge it completely and its been very hard. I've went a day and a half without charging before it went under 10%. I will say that I am on Wifi 90% of the time as I have wifi at work and at home other than that its on performance mode so no true bells and whistles. I'm thoroughly impressed coming from the Evo.

Average day for me is about 30 to 45 minutes of phone calls, 80 to 100 texts, few conversations on google talk, 30 or so emails on three accounts and i have trillian running connected to two accounts.
Connected to WiFi most of the time, bluetooth is turned on (not connected most the time) and brightness set to Auto.
I really dont see how this phone is a monster when it comes to battery life, I've actually been getting the exact opposite. I just fully charged my phone and after running for 2hrs and 7mins its down 78%.... This phone has yet to last me for the whole day. What am i doing wrong? I dont have tons of widgets and the only app that im running that might pose a problem is Go Launcher

Is that your screen on time? If that is then I would say that is impressive already. When I had the epic on stock if I use it for 2ish hours screen on time. I would need a recharge. (Got a lot better after using custom rom. Around 4 hrs screen on time before recharge)

For the past couple of weeks I've been swapping batteries with an external charger one to two times during the course of a day (plus the overnight charge)... Looks like it's time to do some housekeeping...
Edit: used to have battery life like everyone else in this thread though! While at the climbing gym last night I noticed that the thing felt like it was about to catch fire against my thigh - it had burned through about 60 percent of a freshly charged battery in about two hours. I have a nagging suspicion that I neglected to uninstall something (or a few things), and now something non-existent is constantly being polled for as a service after I launch some app for the first time...
when i got my phone it did great on a full day charge, but now with it just sitting at the office its at 70% by 11am i take it off the charger 7-8am .. it started to "weaken" after i downloaded a ton of apps i leave wifi on and 4g off but it also depends on your signal strenght at home it will kill the phone halfway thru the day because i have one bar

Side by Side battery comparison - CleanRom 1.6.5 SP1

First of all, let me say thanks to Scott for all of his work on CleanRom. I know there has been a lot of discussion lately in his thread about battery usage. Some people are getting outstanding battery life and some people can't make it more than a few hours. I have been one of the people that can't make it more than a few hours no matter what I do. I did a clean wipe of everything before installing the ROM and have even tried to reinstall. The odd thing is my wife's phone does fantastic with this ROM. I finally decided to test things side by side lastnight. My phone should have had the clear advantage because I turned off all syncing options and froze any apps that had been downloaded just to make sure there was nothing running. Meanwhile, her phone syncs like crazy to facebook, email, etc and also has various apps running like weatherbug. I let them both sit overnight and after ~9hrs here are the stats I measured:
Battery % left : 79% (mine) vs 88% (hers)
Data used overnight: 75kb (mine) vs 744kb (hers)
Time awake: 3min 32sec (mine) vs 9 min 42sec (hers)
Time in Deep Sleep: 9hr 19mins (mine) vs 9hr 6min (hers)
Everything points to the fact that I should easily have more life left than hers. I am also attaching a couple of screenshots and the betterbatterystats files to this post. Maybe we can track down why everyone's battery life is so different. Tonight I plan to swap batterys between the phones to try to determine if my battery is the problem.
wow that's pretty good on your wife's phone but horrible for yours especially considering you turned off syncing.
I agree. I have no doubt that her phone could easily still be at 95% or more if I made all of the same adjustments to hers as I did to mine. That is why I am hoping someone on here with more knowledge about this stuff can help to determine what is going on.
It honestly might just be a faulty battery, I was having similar results with mine and my friend's phone, too. I tried multiple ROMs, Kernels, etc. But it slowly got worse and worse to the point that I would go down from 100% to 60% in little over an hour, doing nothing but listening to music with the screen off and auto-sync etc off. I bought a replacement battery, though. And this one is working just fine. You might just be having bad battery luck, or it might be your device, I know some people have returned their Rezounds because of battery life/heat problems, and the replacement generally fixes their woes.
so what did your betterybattery stats report?
Thanks for running this test. It would be very helpful to everyone if you could pinpoint this to a battery difference and I'm waiting to hear your results after the battery swap.
What helped my battery life most was to uncheck the box under "settings -> applications -> start automatically" It has something to do with a task manager. It probably wouldn't explain why your wife's phone does better but it could help both of you get better battery life.
bik- The betterbatterystats file is attached. I see a lot of activity on her phone but very little for mine. The only thing that stands out to me is I have alarmmanager waking my phone for 10 mins and she had it waking hers for only 5 mins. I am not sure exactly what alarmmanager is though.
HTGaming- Thank you for the suggestion but I have already done that as well. I think I have literally turned off everything possible on this phone because it is driving me nuts to burn through battery like this. My OG droid used to us 30% in a day max and now I burn through that in an hour if I am using the phone for anything at all. Pretty much the only thing I had running on the phone lastnight was 4g service which her phone also had.
Another thing you can do to compare the two phones is to install battery monitor widget to see what the drain is on the phones. I used to have decent battery life but ever since the update, it's been worse. The one thing I noticed is that now my phone draws more current when sleeping than it used to. The drain is consistently close to 300ma, whereas before it would be less than 200ma when sleeping.
You have to have the widget on for the monitoring to be active unless you change the preferences.
I swapped the battery's lastnight and here's the results. Hers is still clearly better than mine even though betterbatterystats shows way more activity on her phone again.
Battery % left : 84% (mine) vs 90% (hers)
Data used overnight: 279kb (mine) vs 498kb (hers)
Time awake: 5min 32sec (mine) vs 12 min 8sec (hers)
Time in Deep Sleep: 7hr 58mins (mine) vs 7hr 59min (hers)
Someone posted that they saw different PRIs on phones even after the OTA. Do your two phones have the same PRIs?
damnn thats just weird
Im starting to think that some Rezound batches are differently tweaked than others. My first Rezound had great battery, I would stream music for 5-6 hours on 4G and would still be above 60%. My last two however were completely horrible, on 4-5 hours standby it losses closed to 20% with lil to no use. Same settings/apps as my first Rez. I regret returning my first Rezound, it truly was the perfect phone.
There really has to be a reason why some come with a 3.8 V bat. opposed to a 3.7 V. HTC wouldn't just send out two different types of battery for no reason.
You are missing 1 key info in your analysis, which people always seem to leave out when talking about battery life. The screen on time. I see in in the graphs but it's hard to tell the exact number. Because of the 720p screen on our phones, that makes a big difference. When my screen is on, the phone uses up at least 600 ma/hr. That is conservative, usually it is more like 700-800. We'll assume 600 for now. That's 10 ma/minute. Based on the stock battery, that is 0.6% per minute. So having a difference in screen on time of 10 minutes will give you 6% difference in battery life.
i am also unable to go for even most of a day on one battery charge - and i have 3 extra batteries that were from ebay that dont work even that long...
i do notice it when the screen is on the most - yest i used the gps for an hour and a hlaf without plugging the phone in and my battery lasted about 3 hours after that and died....
very bad....
very interested to see if its the phone or not - great work...
I'll try to answer a couple of questions in here. I got very frustrated yesterday so I flashed an ICS rom to see how my phone did with it. It is equally as bad. This morning, I got into work with 97% life, checked my email for about 2 mins and was already down to 90%. I have the screen display set to 30% brightness too. I am amazed that people can used 2-3 hours of display and still have 70% battery after 10 hours. My screen at 30% brightness probably drains 2% per minute. I think tonight I am going to try to install one of the stock RUU's just to check and see if the OTA upgrade possibly didn't install itself correctly.
HTGaming - I will check the PRI's tonight.
Bluesnake - Both phones were purchased the same day so I would guess they are from similar if not the same batch. Both have 3.7 batteries. Infact when I first got my phone, I could have display on auto, sync everything every half hour, use the screen for random browsing throughout the day and still go home with over 70% left. Somewhere along the line my phone has developed some sort of draining problem though and no amounts of clean installs seem to fix it.
b5fan - Both phones were off the entire night. I think screen usage was maybe 10 seconds for both of them. They literally just sat there on the nightstand while we slept and mine drained 2x faster with nothing running while hers ran facebook, email etc.
I checked the PRI on both phones and they are the same. I re-ran the stock RUU tonight so I will see if that makes any difference. I highly doubt it will but I am running out of ideas.
I guess I was thrown by the screen shots. They both show some noticeable screen time.
the only other thing I could think to check is the email type, push versus pull, and the frequency.

The screen time was probably just from me getting all of the data off in the morning like the screenshots and battery stats. Her email was on push and my email was set to not sync at all. Basically she had a fully functional phone and mine was set to do nothing which is why the battery drain is so hard to explain.
I did run the stock RUU image lastnight for my phone. I put it in airplane mode overnight and it was at 97% when I got up which is a huge improvement. I took it off airplane mode at 6am today and when I got to work at 7am, it was down to 90% so I guess I am in wait and see mode now. I have no email accounts/facebook accounts/ or anything else setup right now. It is only the stock image so there should be nothing draining battery today.
I can confirm the phone is no better now after the clean RUU install. Let it sit overnight and it was down to 80% this morning. I did not even setup any email accounts or download any apps yet. This is just the stock image from verizon.

[Q] Rezound Battery Usage concern?

I just received my Rezound new yesterday, downloaded some apps from the market, and set everything up for normal use today. I got it off the charger this morning around 7:30am at 100% and its dead at 4:30pm. I would consider my use light today as I only used the web for maybe 10 minutes. I mostly did things like add contact shortcuts to my home screens and move icons around, and download maybe 2 new apps.
I came from a Droid 2 which got pretty awesome battery life running Liberty 3 and I'm wondering if my usage time is normal.
Total Time 8h 22m 33s
Display 80% (Time on 2h 45m)

The screen is what kills it along with LTE. If your screen was on for 2:45 that is why. The display sucks battery on this phone.
Thanks for the reply, I figured that was the case, but I still thought I would have gotten a little longer. I hope a custom ROM will help some with the battery life.
I am on stock rooted and don't really have battery issues. Typically I get 12-14 hours which by then I have easy access to power. If it is going to be a long day, I use the extended battery. It is not uncommon to still have charge left going into late at night.
I have the screen less than a third of the way on the selector and have Auto brightness turned off. Screen timeout is set to 1m but when I set the phone down, I have a widget called ScreenOff that I click to blank the screen. Primary reason for doing that is so I don't accidentally enter some app, but a secondary is that it turns off the screen before it would normally timeout.
When I am at home or at work, I use WiFi almost 100% of the time which due to strong WiFi signals there, (for me) uses less battery power than LTE.
Otherwise, I have LTE on.
Right now today, I am about 50% with 9h 12m of use. I fully charge nightly with the AC charger on my night stand so when I get up it is 100%.
I have an extended battery, but normally use the stock battery unless I know I am going to be away from the office for long periods of time.
I am not much of a game player, but I do watch short videos from time to time. I have streamed music, but don't normally. I get 10-20 calls a day typically and use my browser on a regular basis (reddit as well).
The camera is Awesome!
Unless your display was on max brightness and you were streaming HD movies. That's bad battery life. I get 2 times that even with autobrightness, maybe your battery isn't broken in yet
A good measure is 30minutes display time per 10%, and 1% per hour with 3G and normal sync scheduling... If your apps sync ever 15 minutes that will kill it, and 4G should kill it a little more than just 3G... Minor fluctuations are still OK, but you shouldn't have 15 minutes per 10% unless everything is basically on full blast
My battery life using the setup in my sig is usually very good.
I can easily make it through a normal workday listening to mp3s from my card/texting etc using the standard battery. My screen is set to 30%, screen timeout to 30 seconds.
I do like to stream audio however using iheart radio or Sirius radio online. If I do that, I'm lucky if I make it 4 hours on the standard battery (without ever turning the screen on) When I am going to do that, I use the extended battery and keep a 2nd one in my pocket. I have two external chargers I use so I always have spare fully charged batts.
I actually prefer the feel/weight of the phone with the extended battery and the HTCPedia cutout hard rubber case.. That gives me a better grip on the phone and I barely notice the weight difference when it is in a Jean pocket.
I guess it just depends on the actual phone itself. My phone charges everynight. I pull it off the charger at 6 am and by 10am the battery is dead. I have 3 batterys, and a wall charger that I carry around. I don't consider myself a heavy user either. No music or videos. Only text, gtalk, gmail and a phone phone calls that last a few min each. I only have google and exchage set to push. My 2 yahoo accts sync every 4 hours. I do have fecebook as well. Screen is very dim. This was all using rooted cleanrom.
I am now back to bone stock, with a CLNR phone that just arrived yesterday (due to connection problems with my computer) So maybe a stock rom unrooted will make a difference. Heres hoping!
Sad.....great phone, I love it!

This. I was playing "draw something " with friends today at work and even with a fully charged extended battery it only lasted about 3.5 hours with the backlight at 100% and oc'd to 1.7 GHz. But that was constant usage for those three hours.

That game literally jumps out of your phone, and rips your battery in half. But its way too fun.

Diff. Roms equal diff results for me. All of the ICS roms I've tried all keep my phone up time and awake time the same. Is anyone else having this issue? Due to this, I typically end up getting around 5 hours of life even if I leave my phone off for the duration of that time. It's annoying because I really want to stay on ICS but get double the battery life out of the GB Roms.

On Scotts CleanRom 3.6, with fairly heavy usage (hour of solitaire, hour of browsing xda, texting, 30 minutes of phone calls) I can get about 10 hours before needing a charge again. Before I updated to 3.6, which has the 3.8v battery fix, I could only get about 5 or 6 hours of similar usage. I don't recall if prior versions had my awake and up times the same, but I haven't noticed it recently.

I take it you don't stream audio like I do??
I just got my Rezound yesterday, and have noticed a surprisingly poor battery life. I did all my setup yesterday, and fully charged the battery over night. After unplugging it this morning, I listened to music off the sd card for about 45 min, browsed the net for about another 45, then stopped using it for a while. I noticed the battery was about halfway through, so I plugged it in to my car charger and did some more Internet stuff. However, after checking the battery info, I realized that even plugged in to the car charger it was consuming more power than it was taking in. I finally had to turn it completely off and let it charge to get the battery from yellow back to green.
This is the same charger I used for my Droid X, so I know that it is working...

I've been running BAMF ICS v0.9 for a few days, and the other versions before that. I get 12-14 hours with 4G on, and 20-23 with 4G off....I keep the screen on 40% brightness
Watch your clock speeds if you are on ICS. They constantly Max out, both cores. That's where your battery life is going.
Sometimes data flickers for me on random days, that's the only thing that wears my battery down fast. But I can still go through the day have 40ish percent left. If it doesn't flicker I can go through through day with about 50% left. And if in on Wi-Fi most of the time I have nore than that left over. And that's with using the phone for a couple of hours with the display on.
Trying ineffabilis with DSBs 1.1.3 kernel and undervolt it some
for me, battery life killers can be streaming audio (sirius xm or espn radio) and definitely jelly wars. Phone will die on extended battery in about 4 hours of continuous play.
Otherwise, normal usage, I get 10-16 hours of use on my extended battery before swapping it out (use 2 extended batteries).
4g definitely runs the phone hotter than wifi (about 20 degrees hotter for me)
The only time my phone gets around 95 degrees is if it's on a charger and I'm watching a movie, and it takes about an hour for it to feel warm, which could even be caused from me holding it the whole time. 4G doesn't get my phone any hotter than 3G Or Wi-Fi. Guess every phone is different though. least we get signal xD

Crazy Battery Life on 920

The first week I had my 920 I was lucky if the battery was at or above 40% by 12 noon. The 920 is my 2nd phone line and I am using it mostly to learn WP8, to surf the web some and listen to a lot of podcasts, usually 6+ hours of them a day. The past 4 days the battery in the 920 is showing insane runtimes. It is currently 11:30pm and it has been off the charger since 8:00am, over 15 hours with overs 8 hours of audio podcast listening. The battery is currently reading 61%. I originally got the impression that LTE was killing the battery, but that is no longer the case.
I have a Share Plan with AT&T with 2 phones, a Galaxy Nexus (GSM model from Play Store) and a Lumia 920. I use my Nexus as my main phone line, to access GMail and Google Reader (a lot of Google Reader feeds). The Nexus has been off the charger the same period of time and is showing 41%.
For me wifi destroys my battery for some reason I get 15 hours with wi-fi on or 28 with it off
Interesting, mine will usually run for 24-30 hours before hitting 15%, including regular usage. 4G gives it a whack but generally I find similar to other phones, if low coverage it chews the battery
Reading all the doom and gloom of 4G LTE on various mobile phones, after my 1st weeks experience, I was expecting similar results going forward. But, after 2 weeks of use, the battery falls in line with the results you mention. And, with that I am not complaining.
same situation here.
It looks like the phone needs some days to warm up and get long lasting.
Also I see that wp8 is heavly optimized for background task in order to not consume a lot of battery eg: my phone lasts more than 2 days with light usage.
I listen to podcast for many hours and it doesnt affect the battery that much, in fact I'm surprised by it because I know audio playing takes a load on the cpu.
Mine.. overnight without charge or using the phone it drained from 100% down to 35%. BS
Two words: Background tasks.
Make sure you don't have unnecessary background tasks running. I have less than 5 and my battery runs more than 2 days easily.
How do you kill or monitor background tasks?
I had really good battery time of 19 hours the first day of installing the new firmware, then I enabled bluetooth again and it drains like crazy. its hit or miss but people seem to think that whatsapp drains battery. I personally would like to disable LTE (its really slow in my area) and just keep bluetooth that seems to give me 12+ hrs of battery.

You can block background tasks for 3rd party apps in Settings->Applications tab->Background tasks. There is no way to monitor these tasks because WP OS doesn't offer any such capability.
Unfortunately there is no easy way to block 1st party apps and if they are misbehaving (like sync something over and over), there is nothing you can do about it.
Turn on Battery Saver can also effectively kill all background tasks. But that's draconian. I still would like my smartphone do something in the background for me.
Don't forget, the biggest battery drain factor could be your cell phone signal. If you keep the phone in a fringe area, the cell radio will drain your battery very quickly while try to maintain communications with cell towers. This is outside the OS and you can't do anything about it.
I had a weird battery drain the day after the last upgrade. No apps running in the background BAR the movie that i had paused.. I lost 80% without using the phone in a 6 hour period (post charging). After a reboot it seems ok. Perhaps i should pause another movie to see if it happens again....
I must say that I have mine 2 days and the battery drains too fast... I dont know what to do .. Maybe because its new ? Some one can help me maybe ?

don't judge a phone's battery life until a week later.

My battery is pretty inconsistent. MOST of the time it's awesome, and will last like 20-25 hours without needing to charge, but that just makes it especially jarring when every now and then I go to check my phone at 4 in the afternoon and it's at critical, and I have no idea what causes it.
Plus when it does die I have to put it on the charger for like 2 hours before it will let me turn it on.
I found interesting point in the battery life today, if the screen is off, the battery drain is in the range of 3-4% which is good, however, if the screen goes on the battery drops like 15% in just 25 minutes. After thinking I tried to set the screen sensitivity to normal and it solved my problem. I kept the screen on for more than 45 minutes and the battery went down almost 6% only which is good. I still have to test more to give a concrete evidence.

I usually run a battery discharge app Saturday night. Then a full recharge with the phone off. That usually gives me dependable battery life of about 12 hours a day for the entire week. If I forget and not run the discharger I notice it midways into the week when I only get about 8 hours out of it.
AT&T lumia920:
after updating my phone to the 1314 update, my battery life got worse.
I went from 14 hours per day to only 8 hours.
thanks nokia -_-
note: I was not experiencing any connectivity issues on my phone.
let's see how many people here actually have NFC on and Auto-Brightness on... lol
I used the sleep app last night after charging to 100%, and then I fell asleep with it on.
I woke up to find the sounds still going, and when I checked my phone worried that I killed the charge, I found it still had 92% left. That's impressive.
