Otterbox - HTC Rezound

Anyone have it yet?

I have the defender and love it!! VZW threw it in when I picked up my Rezound. Way nicer than my wifes on her iphone. Rubber stays put, covers for the ports and nice rounded edges.
Chris

Did they have the commuter in stock in the store?

never even asked
Chris

Do it fit the extended battery also
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App

No the extended battery won't fit if it is anything like the Otterbox on my Desire

I ordered one last night directory from Otterbox. I had one on my DI and loved it. I'll post pics when it comes in. It looks pretty nice in the pictures. The cases Verizon had sucked. I got a gel case for temporary. Guy said I had 14 days to return it as long as it wasn’t all beat up. Only Otterbox case Verizon had was the defender. And that's just too much case IMHO.

I am not sure what to do. I can either order an otterbox and hope it comes before thanksgiving and have it delivered to my house or I can have it delivered to me at school but I will be almost a week without a case then

I saw that Verizon had the shell holster case say it fits the standard and extended battery

Just got off the phone with V got an early upgrade to the Rezound and the fellow asked if I needed to order a case. They only had the Ottterbox Defender. I had already ordered a Commutter direct from Otterbox. The two shall meet on Monday and become one.

Not sure if it will be delivered by wednesday or the friday after thanksgiving. I am not sure if I should ship it to school or my house where I will be next week.

Also just ordered mine. Mad they dont have faster shipping options. Defender is way to large for me lol. (That's wut she said) but I ordered the commuter yesterday so i should have it early next week. Its looks good IMO. Hopefully it feels just as good..
I also hope maybe it will have a cover for the camera. As the battery plate doesn't... Scared my lenses is gonna scratch and give me nexus quality pictures :-(

I picked up the defender yesterday, and actually really like it. I generally get the commuter as well, but it has a great feel to it. It makes the buttons MUCH easier to use, which is a huge plus in my opinion. It also offers a very good screen protector that doesn't take away from the screen clarity like the protectors VZW sells.
We will have to see how long I can do with the rubber picking up lint (which it does, quite a bit actually)...but I have to say I like it better than all the other cases I've tried at my local Verizon store.

I have the otterbox commuter series for my rezound. Love it. They've turned me into a serious fanboi. Fit is absolutely flawless. The hard plastic shell is great too. I'm not using the screen protector.
If you're on the fence regarding this case...don't be.
Best phone accessory I've owned.

Otterbox has been my #1 for a long time. All their cases are great. And their warranty is too. Does the commuter have any kind of cover for the camera lense? Or is it thick enough to not be an issue?

Nothing physically over the lens. However it does offset the lens roughly a 1/16th of an inch. Enough so you can slide it across a table without worry. It's the same with the screen. I don't use the included screen protector so that offset is key.

everyone of my devices has a otterbox defender, the best cases i've ever used

Dammit there out of stock. Figures much LOL

Yea I noticed that my delivery date changed from the 22nd to the 25th... PisseD. Was gonna cancel. But I can't find them anywhere else that ships faster. So I guess ill wait lol :-\
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk

Has anyone tried the Commuter? I think the defender would just be more than I need. My only major problem with this phone is the WORTHLESS flush mounter buttons. I always almost drop my phone trying to use them. I know at least one person has said that the Defender makes the buttons much easier to use, can anyone attest to this being the same on the Commuter? From the picture they look nice and raised like on the Defender, but I want to be sure, as right now whatever case I get will be based largely on making the buttons easier to press.
Also, how does that membrane on the Defender work? Is it just a sheet of plastic connected to the case rather than stuck to the screen? Wouldn't dust and/or moisture get trapped under there?

Tired of hearing people complain about how bulky the otterbox defender is!

Ive been reading all these different reviews about cases and i see so many people complaining that the otterbox defender is to bulky. This case is not made for everyone. If you dont have a job that involves alot of physical activity or dont do alot of day to day activities that can potentially lead to damaging the phone then dont pay $50 for something you dont need. Idk if people are buying it just because its the most expensive case and think most expensive is best or what. There are plenty other cases at sprint and bestbuy that will do just fine. Iam a huge ballistic fan but have to admit i think otterbox did an excellent job with the case for 2 reasons. It fits awesome while providing awesome protection and hey......it was available launch day. Theres alot of stores that sold out of the defender and theres alot of people who want the defended and now cant find it. So if you dont like the case....dont need the protection just take it back.

Everyone has there own opinion...you shouldn't let it upset you. If ur happy with it. That's all that matters...right? Really doesn't Warrant another otterbox thread...
Who cares about what other people think?Grow some balls!!!!!jkjkjk
I think the defender is great. I love mine and it isn't as big as people made it seem.
LOL seriously?
The case is bulky as hell... I bought one, I'm going to return it today. Don't get so upset over it, it's not like we slapped your wife or something/.
Im not sayin it effects me personally and trust me if someone slapped my wife wining on xda would be the last thing id do. Just makes no sense to me when people spend all the money on the case....9 out of 10 times the people at the store will snap it on for you and you see right there what it looks like so why take it home? Instead of bashing it all im saying is lets give otterbox some props. Im a diehard ballistic fan but am happy otterbox had a defender case for us on launch day. And i must admit this soft rubber on the defender feels alot better then ballistics hard plastic when holding the phone to your ear during a phone call

Im not a fan of the holster but i think the case is awesome and saves you the trouble of buying screen protectors. Also this case screen protector dosent have the bubble effect problem my ballistic did

I love the defender case. Sure it adds some bulk, but I never really put it in my pocket. I keep it in the holster. I took a dremel and ground down the release clip so that it's not sticking out so much. It's great.
I just find it hilarious that morons buy the defender case and then say it's bulky. Why buy the most rugged mainstream case and expect it to be slim? It's really not even as big/tough as some smaller house cases like the Trident Kraken or Ballistic HC.
im loving mine! The fact that you can put the phone in the holster face in or out and the belt clip locks in the open position makes it double as a kickstand makes this a awsome case!
Yea i just like how this feels when talking on the phone. The ballistic would hurt my ear if i didnt have the rubber outer layer on.....the otterbox is super comftorable.

I Love mine also, just wish I could find a car dock that will fit the phone with it on.
I like my defender case too. It is a little bulky but being able to put the phone face out on the holster is definitely a big plus for me.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA Premium App
it is bulky, never really bothered me, but also you can tell they could slim these things out some.
I picked up the commuter and I personally think it sucks, the rubber on the top of the phone isn't held in place for ****e.
I had the defender for the EVO 4G and i thought it sucked too, everytime I pulled it out of my pocket the rubber was coming off, constantly messing with it.
I had a defender case on my Iphone 3GS and Loved it, and had one on my blackberry curve and also loved it.
so /shrug seems to me they've gone downhill some, im sticking it out for the ballistic case.
but as you can see, the size isn't really my issue lol.
(appeared the evo 3d case has same issue that evo 4g case did from looking at it.)
I actually don't like bulky cases, and I was planning on going with the Seidio case as my EVO had one on it. I went into a best buy and they happened to have the Otterbox Defender, so I tried it out and I really like it. So I ended up picking it up (cost $54 but meh) and I think I'm going to roll with this for a while.
I did make a modification though... I took the built-in screen protector off. It felt like it had too much grip to it. I like my protectors to be smooth.

Word! I work as a stock manager at a warehouse, had the OBD on my old EVO and it saved it numerous times. Got it for the 3DVO and love the Look and feel of it. Plus, in case folks didn't know, the holster doubles as a dock station with a kickstand, and if you dont actually click the phone into the case, it amplifies the audio quite well by providing a sort of acoustical chamber. All in all, best 50 dollars I could've spent

When you take the rubber silicone outer layer off the ballistic the innercase is a hard plastic shell with the screen protector. Well when your holding the phone to your ear during a call it hurts. The otterbox soft rubber dosent

The thing is a horse but it seeks almost bomb proof. I love it but old wifey wasn't into it for hers ( unless they make a defender with flower prints on it...haha)
Screen protector is thick and smooth. It would be even better if it was anti glare. Coming from the Hero, this phone is already waaay bigger so WTH if I add a few centimeters with this defender. It's solid.
can HTC install a trackball on this thing?

Otterbox alternative?

I've had my first otterbox defender ever with this evo 3d and though I love the protection, I'm beyond annoyed with the rubber outer layer stretching so it doesn't fit right. I'm already on my second outer layer (they replaced it for me 2 or 3 weeks ago and its already out of shape).
Anything else someone recommends? I don't like the ballistic case btw, looks too bulky compared to otterbox.

no i plan on trying one out tho. i had one for the evo 4g, and never had problems with stretching.
I'd like to try the Kraken. If you get it, would you mind providing a little review? I emailed Otterbox about the replacement even stretching and see what they say before I make any additional purchases. Amazon has the Kraken for about $10 cheaper btw - just looked. but they only have a handful left... I hate when they do that, makes you feel like its now or never.

Thanks. I have been doing some research on the Kraken II too and getting more and more discouraged. I'll look at the Cyclops II and maybe Ballistic.
Otterbox offered to send me 2 replacements this time. I also asked why it is doing this and how I can prevent/minimize it but they ignored that part. I suppose I'll take the replacements, but I don't think I'm going to stick with Otterbox because of this issue. Just still don't know what else to get.

How about warping or stretching? Solid there?
Seidio's is nice. No stretching. I have extended battery so its bulky.

Thanks. which seidio? I'm eyeing the Active with kickstand. I think I did read they they were pretty easily warped by the camera button, but I might have that mistaken with case mate.
EDIT: Thanks for the help, I just went ahead and ordered a seidio.
heres a case that i recently purchased and absolutely love. not as protective at otterboxes or ballistic cases but it survived many nightmarish drops and came out just fine, not a nick or scratch on the case even.the kickstand design is very solid and its made of the same reinforced plastic polymer as otters and ballistic, and it incorporates a hard tpu skin. overall a futuristic design for a futuristic looking phone lol. also a great price

Still using the otterbox defender, never had a problem with the silicone stretching. Only thing i can see doing that is constantly taking the rubber off and on.
I don't remove the rubber layer at all. But I just showed my brother yesterday the problem and asked if he had that issue. He also has the e3d and otterbox defender. He doesn't at all. But we compared his outer layer to mine and his is thicker. I don't know why ours are different.

The "silicone" mixture can be different, that's why they ask for the vendor code when you get them to send you a new one, I would think its very easy to revise the ingrediants to make it fit better or worse, I think putting in my pocket and taking it out stretched out the sides and made it fit a lil lose compared to a new one, my replacement defender fit totally better than my first one, however the same problem did occur over time, again... So I'm with you in the hunt to find that perfect case,
Shot from my shooter in 3D

Well, I'm liking this Seidio Active kickstand case I ordered so far. Doesn't feel quite as durable as otterbox, but enough protection for me. The silicone feel thinner and softer than my otterbox's too so we'll see. At least it's mostly the inner layer that's silicone with the outer hard plastic so maybe it will be ok.

I been rockin the hc black/black case since wedneseday. So far nothin but positive feelings. I posted a thread with pics of it next to the defender

Bumping this thread back up. I had the same problem with my Otterbox Commuter, where the silicon was stretching out too. They even sent me a replacement and the same thing still happened. I got the pink/white 'strength' version if it made a difference. I never took the silicon off that often and the phone is carried in my purse mostly. So I didn't understand how the silicon can stretch out like that.
Thinking of emailing them to let them know of the issue, but I don't really want any more phone cases from them. I ended up getting a Casemate slim case which I love. I also got the Casemate equiv of the Commuter and the silicon they use is much stiffer and fits a lot snugger.
OP you mentioned they offered you 2 replacements. Is it replacements for the same phone case? Or cases for other devices?

i just saw some pics of it on the link somebody else provided... gotta say im not to impressed with the build design for it... looks like they kinda rushed it. i used to use the hc ballistic for my og evo and that was an amazing case, this one not so much lol
I purchased the Ballistic Hard Case and for my large hands it fits very nicely. My review of the Ballistic Hard Shell Case...
The thing I like most about this case that I did not like about the Defender is that the defender I could not click on keys or buttons at the edge of the screen without some trial and effort. The Ballistic is a bit bulkier due to it's design it does not effect my pressing buttons or typing at all I can actually see the 2-3 centimeters of the black edges around the screen meaning I can now play my games without killing myself to hit the buttons or use the keyboard without effort to press keys like o and p when I was in non-landscape mode. The kickstand does feel flimsy and appears it will pop off but treat it carefully and it should be ok. And last but not least the plastic protective screen covers the entire front of the phone unlike the Defender which had a gap that lint and dusts always seemed to find it's way into. I give it a 3.5 star more if the kickstand was of a heavier quality. What matters is the touching of the screen freedom of movement which the Defender SEVERELY lacked but this one does not.
htcEVO9 from someone that has used a Ballistic Case how much does this one differ? I am really curious as the only other case I have seen is the Defender.

i do not have the hc ballistic case for the 3d, but when i had it for the og evo i loved it, superior build quality and like u said the buttons were very easy to push which made it a huge plus. the kick stand was incredibly flimsy that and the silicon piece that was used to cover the headphone jack never really sat in place properly, those being the only 2 real drawbacks of the case. compared to the otterbox defender i would choose ballistic over otter any day, ive seen ppl drop otter boxes about 3-4 feet and the phone still gets damaged, whereas i have dropped mine over 10 ft and thrown it just to prove how superior the ballistic is the otter.
as for the ballistic 3d from what i have seen the interior case deff looks like it is designed to protect the phone, but i cant say the same for the silicon skin, build quality deff looks like its lacking, looks poorly done is what im getting at. but if you can get over the physical appearances then i am sure that the case is still much better than an otterbox.

Review: OtterBox Commuter with Pictures

I love my Evo LTE, it is an awesome phone! When I bought it though I received the horrible news that TEP from Sprint had gone up as well as the Asurion Deductible. Normally I don't like cases because I like to keep my phone sleek but with this in mind I had to buy one. I opted for the OtterBox Commuter (I bought on Amazon for a little over $20 shipped). So I thought I'd hit you guys up with a review just in case anybody is on the fence about what case to get.
Overall:
I liked the tight fit, the good amount of protection without the bulk, and the fact that the kickstand is perfectly accesible and usable in both directions Plus it's relatively cheap. Check attached images. I had no problems with any of the cutouts for microphone or the back camera. Also the charging port and headphone jack coverings worked fairly well. They were a bit bothersome, mainly the headphone jack, depending on the size of the plug but overall they're pretty good.
Fit:
I must say this case has a TIGHT fit on my phone! It is not loose anywhere and the silicone is actually pretty tight on there unlike other two layer cases I've tried. It is tight enough that no dust has gotten underneath it to the case which I hate when cases do that! Also all the buttons are unaffected by the case and I like the feel they have with it on. Oh and the kickstand can still be used both ways, port up or down!
Size:
The case hasn't added much bulk at all. I still think this phone is pretty thin with the case on. I took a picture next to an Evo 3d with no case on just for size comparison and as you can see, this case adds little to no bulk.
Protection:
I feel my phone is pretty well protected. I already got past the 1st scary fall yesterday when I dropped it running down some stairs :/ but my phone was not harmed at all, neither was my case. Obviously it's not meant to be a hardcore heavy duty run over with a car case (as rumored with some Ballistics) but it's a good balance between protection and keep it thin.
Screen Protector:
I personally don't like screen protectors too much. It seems unnecessary for this phone with Gorilla Glass but it's still a nice gesture for it to be included. I installed it for demonstration purposes since many people with screen protectors had problems with proximity sensor. The protector included in the case had the cutout for the proximity sensor which was definitely a plus. I also noticed it's a pretty hard screen protector and feels almost like bare glass, but I still don't plan on keeping it for long lol
The Bad:
The only bad thing I've found so far is that the silicone is a little bit of a dust magnet. It hasn't gotten too serious to where it bothers me but it's just something to note.

This is what I hate about silicone. Also, it ends up making it difficult to pull out of your pocket because of how sticky/tacky it is. Thanks for the review.

I dont normally like to put cases on phones either but this phone...i dont know I had the overwhelming urge to put a case on it. Now i was going to go wit ha normal regular hard shell case off of ebay for 5 bucks but..no.. not this time. I got the otterbox commuter aswell. Truth be told I was worried about the silicone not fitting perfectly but to my surprise it fits damn well. Plus the case feels good in the hand. I actually like how the phone feels with the case on. i did put the screen protector on because look at it this way. $600 phone with ''gorilla glass''..... youre really not going to do anything to protect it? Gorilla glass is scratch resistant not scratch proof. My opinion is youve gotta have a few screws loose if youre not going to put a screen protector on the phone.
over all great case, feels good, doesnt add bulk.
The defender however...makes the phone huge
I rocked my OG for two years with every rugged case u could think of and never worried about the phone. The last month I had the phone I had it naked as all of my cases were breaking on me. I loved how great the Evo felt naked and how easy it was to slip it into my pocket. Anywho, I ended up dropping it and shattering the screen. I bought the new Evo and slapped the Commuter on it before leaving BB. I thought the Defender was way too big for pocket use (I'm over the belt clip thing). It maintains the sleekness of the OG Evo, so, I love it! The included screen protector is pretty good too surprisingly. Not a single complaint from me!
Yeah I have actually kept this case on and been loving it. The case adds a really nice feel to my phone and I honestly like the look it gives my phone. I have yet to try the defender but when I do ill do a write up on it as well

I love the review. I'm actually about to switch from the defender to the commuter case. Getting tired of the extra bulk and the rubber on the defenders seem to tear rather quickly. I had the same tearing prob when I had a defender on my e3d. Had the e3d defender replaced twice. So again thanks for the review picking up a commuter case tomorrow.
Bought the same case as soon as I got my phone, beat case hands down still nice and thin the dust magnet I agree but its protective and not heavy ! It was cheap too off amazon. The port cover is clever

You can buy the seidio belt clip. The phone fits great with the case on.

I have the defender case and the rubber over the charging port keeps breaking off. Does that happen with the commuter case?

Yeah spot on review I feel the same way about my commuter case. I had the defender for my OG EVO but I like the feel and look of the commuter on my LTE so much better

After 2 weeks with mine I have to say I love this case. It's thin very protective and it looks good. Very satisfied with it.

It's a know problem. There is another threat here that talks about it. Works case scenario you can call again and have them send another one.

I have noticed the flap looking kind of weak on mine too. I'm switching to the Commuter case I ordered as soon as it gets here.
i want to get a thinner case but i need a belt clip.. anyone kno of a good case thats thinner than the defender but has a belt clip?
I had this very issue. I called otterbox and explained the problem and told them I purchased it at best buy but that I did not have the box or receipt. They said no problem and sent me an entire new case. Plus I kinda sorta maybe told them I had the blue version so they sent me that one. Now I have both the blue and the black and I mix and match the pieces. The flap is still broken but it doesn't bother me. Their customer service is awesome.

Can feel the flap on the usb port getting weaker by the day, debating whether I care or if I'm gonna get another case. Really liked Ballistic's cases on the O.G. leaning towards trying their SG case.

I have the commuter case, and the seidio active holster. It's like they were made for each other. Two separate purchases but it's a thinner case.
"We're coming from a pure power source"
I've had the same prob with the flaps and also I noticed the right next to the hole that holds the phone in the holster wears too.... Even the rubber cover as a whole starts to get lose after a while. I just picked up a commuter case today. My phone is a lot slimmer now and I realize again how beautiful the screen is by not having the built in screen protector.
My charger port flap broke off of one case and the black lip that snaps your phone into the case broke off also. I'm now on my 3rd case. The warranty is only a year so I'll just keep getting new cases until the warranty ends and maybe go with the ballistic SG Maxx next.

I started with a defender and hated that the front screen made it hard for me to negotiate the top part of my screen. I did love the toughness but these day I have been using the commuter series on this phone and it has been awesome.

I would recommend popping off the screen protector it comes with and applying your own. EBay gets you 6 of them for like less than $2. Or you can get the Zagg regular or HD. This will avoid the color distortions (rainbow circles) and in the sun light glare.
I've been doing this to all my Otterbox's and that's how I've survived. But I am thinking of switching over to the Trident Case's - Kraken AMS or Cyclops.
I have the commuter case and have had no problems..... But otter will send you a new one...

I am now seeing this problem too. The whole case seems to be getting looser. So much so that it barely even stays attached to the top of the frame at the top of the phone now.
no problems here im happy with mine
I had the same problem to and outterbox sent me a new one and I'm not to pleased with the case cause of the rubber part that the phone holder attached too the rubber part wares down pretty fast.

The silicone (rubber) housing has been an issue for all otterboxes not just the lte for my og i went thru 4 of them in 6 months the 3d like 6 of them and im getting my third in the mail for the lte and i got it the day they were shipped to stores for preorder release. Otterboxes offer amazing protection and customer service thats why ill stick with them. That and the fact they dont keep track of the 1 year thing lol

This really sucks. I am about to get my defender case soon for my evo 4g lte. I've got one for the Sgs3 and so far it's been good.
Happened to me.also. I am.on.my second warranty replacement. I am actually pretty irritated and will be trying to return the case.

I dont see it as a reason to return or not buy otterboxes now if theyd stop replacing them or started charging a fee for replacements like zagg does then id start looking else where but in all aspects of the case im quite pleased with it...on a side note they probably didnt design the case with power users/rooters and devs in mind. Im sure with normal daily usage the case would hold up and withstand anything you threw at it. And on another side note i threw my 3d at the wall a few months back with the defender on it and absolutely nothing happened to the case but i did shatter the digitizer and lcd along with completely bending the metal housing of it. So the case itself will hold up just hope the impact of the hit isnt hard enough to break what its protecting lol.
