How do you send text messages to imported contacts from wifi? - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

Dumb question, but wondering if it's possible to text imported contacts. Don't want skype or fring, just standard texting over wifi.

You can send SMS text messages using Google Voice. If installed, it shows up as an option in contacts.

Thanks didn't look at google voice sms!
BTW, found anther way to sms from the flyer. Go to the market and get syncSMS. It's $2.99. Then get Dropbox, which is free. I put syncSMS on my nexus and it syncs both inbox and outbox from the phone to the tablet!
Have all original sent/received sms on the phone, even though the entire conversation took place on the tablet

Try TexTab Lite. Install it on your tablet and Android phone, start Textab on both, configure and connect devices with Bluetooth.
When phone received message, it will forward it using BT to tablet. You can view and reply directly on tablet your phobe will take care of sending.

[Solved] Strange Google Voice Problem - charged by T-Mobile ???

Every time a text message is sent to my Google Voice number, I get 2 identical messages simultaneously: one in my google voice app, and one in my phone's "Messaging" app - and I get charged by T-mobile for the text message, even though it was sent to my Google Voice number??? Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

Disable the "Receive text messages on this phone" option in GV.
But I'd like to receive text messages on this phone via GV.. why would I want to disable that?
because it will still go to the google voice app, just not directly to the phone's text messaging program.

Click to collapse
That makes no sense, but I did it anyway and it didn't work. I disabled text messaging option and sent a text message to my GV number - my phone didn't get anything. Sorry, but I don't understand how you expected that to work. Thanks anyway...
If you turn off the "receive text messages on this phone" the sms will still go to the google voice app inbox but not be forwarded to the "real" phone number as well. You check the texts and respond to them there, not through the default texting app. You disable this property by going to google voice (the website) going to the phone tab, finding your phone under "forwards to:", and clicking edit.
Oh, I'm sorry... I misread. However, after I disabled "receiving text messages on this phone", my GV app on the phone stopped notifying me of new text messages in my GV inbox, which is why I didn't think it would work. So now I need to figure out why it's not notifying me of new texts at all.
Nevermind - it arrived, but delayed.
Thanks for taking the time to explain. I appreciate your help.
No problem. If you setup the texts to forward to your email address or setup a separate one simply for the texting, you can receive notifications that way as well.
As long as the phone app notifies relatively promptly, that'll work. I was just worried because I never changed any settings in my GV account, and on my previous phone (Motorola Cliq), all texts only came to the GV app and never to the main messaging program.

[Q] SMS App?

Hi everybody,
does anybody know if it is possible to install a SMS client on the GT 10.1v? Being it a 3G Tablet it should be possible to activate the SMS messaging ... I had been using the same SIM-card in a Samsung Netbook where it was possible to write text messages. The tab didn't let me install GO SMS.
Thanks!
I've installed WhatsApp and it want to send a SMS message before it starts. When I enter a correct phonenumber, WhatsApp presents an error telling me that it's not possible to send an SMS.
It appears the current firmware doesn't support SMS/Phone operations. Perhaps a custom rom in the near future will solve this problem.
I've tried to use Go SMS & Go Dialer, but without any luck.
Google talk floating around xoom forum can send SMS but replies are going to my phone

I use sync SMS on my 10.1 wifi tab... install on tablet then on phone... must have a dropbox account. Works really good.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
using dropbox seems like a poor way of doing it..
I just started on one myself that does it through bluetooth
that's also not a perfect way of doing it but it seems better than dropbox to me
then again, I have no idea if it will work through bluetooth. I literally just started on it yesterday so I basically have zero functionality so far.
I just saw that HTC Flyer on Android 2.4 does have an SMS App working. Couldn't we just rip the app of the Flyer and install on the GT?
How could we get the messaging (SMS) app from the Flyer to try?
My GO SMS works nicely!

Sorry if I am being dumb - you got GoSMS working on a 10.1V? How comes? I have in the meantime only managed to get it installed. But - as predicted - it would not send any SMS.
I can send SMS using the messaging function in the message app.
textab is the best sms app out there in my opinion. unless your trying have a set number to the tab and text from it.
Sign up for a Google Voice number for free. ( google.com/voice ) Make sure you go through the settings and don't have it forward texted to your current cell phone number but just to the email address used to sign up.
Use the Google Voice App from the market or the one already preinstalled on the Tab. Log in using your Google Voice account and start texting using your new Google Voice phone number to any cell phone number.
DeskSMS is the ONLY way to go for SMS from a tablet, desktop, or web interface. Doesn't require an active bluetooth connection or Dropbox. It just forwards all my SMS to my Google Talk account, and I can reply directly within Google Talk on my Tablet or Trillian on my PC.
Google voice now supports tablets. I use it all the time to text from the tab.

[Q] how to push sms from phone to Flyer?

Hi. Despite having the option to send/receive sms throught the flyer, I have plenty of free sms bundled with my phone simcard and would like to:
* type sms on my flyer and send them through my phone (Nexus 1)
* read messages sent to my phone through the Flyer
I'm currently using android app Cloud to sms on my computer which sends / receives sms through the browser but that is way too slow and inconvenient to use with the Flyer.
I'm thinking that there are lot of people out there with phone and tablet...there just must be a way to sync messages between devices and use the phone as an sms gateway.
Any thoughts?
There's an awesome app called Sync sms in the market and it does just that. i think it's $2 it's worth it.

any way to sync GV with the SMS client on the phone?

Okay, so after a LOT of missed/late texts I've finally given up on the google voice client (app). My wife and I both have the same problem. we're on sprint and have changed our numbers over to GV. Texts often will not show up until the app is opened. It's very frustrating.
I finally went into GV on the web and turned on the "Receive text messages on this phone" as well as the "Notify me of new voicemails via text". This has basically eliminated the problem of missed texts. we're back to using handcent or the default sms client. GV still lives on the phone for when we get notifications of VoiceMail, but..other than that we're not using the GV app.
The issue I'm having (and it's an annoyance more than anything) is that I keep google.com/voice open as the first tab in my browser at all times and when I'm at a computer I do my texting through GV on the web. if I say a bunch of stuff to someone from the web interface, leave the computer and get a text from them 2 hours later, I can't remember what I said to them and the default text app doesn't show that I said anything. so reading back through the conversation is very confusing.
anyone know of a way to sync a regular sms client to a google voice account?
Thanks!

[Q] Sent Google Voice messages synced to native SMS

I have Sprint and an integrated google voice number. I also have a tablet I use to send/receive GVoice messages. Problem is, only the received messages will show up on my phone...any message sent through GVoice isn't there. Ps, I understand WHY, just looking for a way to get around it.
Is there any app/technique available (searched FOREVER) that will allow my phone to sync up with the sent messages from GVoice? Essentially, I want to be able to have a gvoice only conversation on the tablet and have the same conversation show up on the phone.
Thanks!
Bump. Have an app that can send GV from the native SMS system.
GV Intergration
But I cannot get GV messages received in the native message app without forwarding the text through the proper SMS phone number. I thought there was an an option for this in the GV app, but it doesn't seem to make a difference for me.
I just emailed the developer of the GV Integration app asking if he had any ideas on how to do this. Unfortunately, the Google Voice app is the only one I've found that will sync messages instantly (or at all). I SMS a *lot* from my laptop browser via google.com/voice and the Google Voice chrome plugin.. so it would suck to only see one side (incoming) of the text thread.
I'll definitely let you guys know if I find anything.
damnit google.. open up the freakin api already.
Also.. if you do use the Google Voice app.. there's an app on the market called NotifierPro that works with the Android Google Voice app to display popups of incoming text messages... which is convenient.
You can send text mesages with GVI, then have them forwarded back to your phone. That would work if you have unlimited inbound texts, but it cuts prepaid texting in half, which is nice, but could be nicer.

Well, I'm glad others have an interest in something like this too. I've been using mysms recently...it's by no means reliable and it relies on your phone to send/receive (unlike GV) but it works ok for now. Mighty text works better as far a reliability goes, but is terrible with the tablet browser, doesn't support notifications, and still relies on the phone...still not GV. I guess we'll just gave to wait.
Argh...the GV integration app ALMOST works. It might just be a matter of getting the settings right. Messages sent from a Google Voice web browser get integrated into handcent (Usually after you receive a message). I just keep running into problems with duplicate messages, not getting notifications from handcent (messages still show up), etc depending on the settings I choose between the GV/Handcent/GV Integration apps.
SO frustrating...has anyone had better luck?
Looking for a way to keep text sent from the browser and tablet synced with my phone as well. Im using Sprints GV integration as well.
I know this thread is old but for anybody that finds this post you should know that cm10.2 roms have voice+ which integrates messages sent from a computer to your phones message store
Wow thread resurrection! Yes it's awesome. Been using it since Koush came out with Babel. Recent nightlies though, receiving messages has been spotty. Are you using nightlies and or are you seeing this too?

For anyone else, the app Sliding Messaging (on play store, or if you search xda) just added Google voice integration.
