[APP] Amazon Instant Video - Nook Color Themes and Apps

ATVAndroidClient.apk: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19409230&postcount=10
I just found the apk posted and thought other NC/T users would be interested. Apparently it works on the NT: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19459596&postcount=25

The application says my device is not supported. I'm running the miui rom.

I can install and run the API, can't log into my pekinese account. How do you log in?
Sent from my NookColor using xda premium

To login you have to "buy" something. Don't worry if you are trying to watch something thru Prime for free... you don't have to actually complete the purchase. You can login and then abort the purchase and it will remember your login.
But it won't work after logging in if you are rooted (which you are

This is what I get when I attempt to purchase a video so I can log in. After I dismiss that warning, and when I attempt to log in, it is giving me an error that reads: An error has occurred. Please try again.
It would be really awesome to get this working on my NC. I must be honest, I'd really love to have a Nook Fire.

Amazon videos play decently on Opera mobile with it set to spoof a PC. I'd rather have the app interface though.
Videos are faster to load than hulu but the sound/video seemed to get a little out of sync.
The app keeps giving me errors when I try to login, OTA unroot doesn't seem to help. This prolly won't work until a hacked .apk comes out.

I get the same error, I am using CM7 and the Voodoo OTA RootKeeper.
Even after unrooting I see the "Your device is no longer configured orrectly to play Amazon videos" and after ignoring, the same "An error has occurred.. " message.
Has anyone with with CM7 and NC had any luck with this? I'm thinking that the security check may be more than a simple SU check, so just being unrooted may not be enough.

After getting Amazon Video working nicely on my Samsung Exhibit II I tried to get it to work on my Nook Color but everything was fine until I wanted to click 'Play Video' and it is grayed out. I even 'bought' a free episode and it's the same. Not sure if I can have this installed on two devices with the same account.

jic anyone is wondering
Disables playback on Xperia Play as well (GB rom)

Amazon Video APK working on Nook Tablet!

Here is the Amazon Video APK:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1352694
This is really the last piece that the Kindle has over the Nook Tablet... and now that is solved.
Notes
There is some preventative code in the Amazon Video Player that stops it from playing if you are rooted, but just get the "OTA RootKeeper" app from the Google Market (or search the apk) and install that. That lets you temporarily unroot with a single click. Then restore root with another. All right from your device! No need for PC connection. Now you can watch your prime shows without losing root!
There is no menu option to login to your prime account through the app. Some people claim that if you have Amazon MP3 installed and login there, then install the Amazon Video app, it will use the same login info. But if that doesn't work, you can simply click on a prime video, click the buy button, it will take you to a login screen, then login and it should recognize your prime access and let you watch.
Won't save login
Amazon Video apk installs and runs beautifully but I can't sign in. I selected a movie to purchase, was taken to the login screen, entered login info (I'm a Prime member.) but then it kicks me back to the movie screen and starts the cycle all over again. After re-entering my login several times it never gets past the loop. Is there a trick to having it remember the login?
Try and reboot the nook after logging in, worked for me.

Worked!
Worked like a charm and I'm embarrassed that I didn't try this first! Thanks for your reply.
Looks like it doesn't work if you are rooted.
Worked before rooting, no longer working after rooting. I am a sad panda.
The work around is to use OTA RootKeeper, a free app on the Market that will backup your "root files" (I'm guessing su) and restore when you need it.
https://market.android.com/details?id=org.projectvoodoo.otarootkeeper
Unfortunately, I can't test this since I don't yet have the Nook or any other Android tablet. Hope it helps you guys out though!

Thanks! Worked like a champ. Just install, then click 'Temporary Un-Root'. All of my launcher buttons and everything else work just fine.

If I'm already an Amazon Prime member and can access streaming video from the Browser, which I tested, then what does installing this apk do?

It's a better layout, and the video plays faster since it's all native.
Didn't work for me. I think because my NT is now rooted. Got a "cannot open file" when I tried to launch the apk.
about streaming videos...
Can anyone check how these stream on NT:
http://vimeo.com/hd
http://veetle.com/index.php/listing#all/quality/1 (highest playable bitrates?)
Revision3 apk (available at Market) when on "HD" ?
any other online HD streaming video content you know of and able to watch and report/demonstrate?
Thank you
Can NON Prime members at least rent movies? No free streaming right? I have the Amazon player on my NT but afraid to login to my Amazon account because I dont't want to be charged $80 lol

The Vimeo video link played perfectly on my Nook Tab
*Normal* Veetle channels work fine but not HD channels

Prime membership just gives you a subset available to stream for free. It is not a requirement for accessing the video service.

On the page for the video, it shows the different options available to watch (Streaming, Download to PC, Portable Device, etc...). Can you download the portable device version and transfer it to the NT to play in the app?

You shouldn't get that error if you are rooted. It should let you do everything but give you a warning when you try to watch. But see the first post again for notes on how to easily bypass this.
works perfect! Thanks!

I've gotta use this OTA app even if I'm rooted? (which I am)
I installed the ATVAndroidClient apk. In GOLauncher what is the name of the app? I can't seem to find it.

Has anyone gotten the Kindle app fully working?

I rooted the NT and installed the Amazon Kindle app just fine.
It runs okay, but I cannot add any books to my device. It'll say it's downloading my device but it never shows up. Attempting a sync fails with "Sync failed. Please try again later." Yes, I'm signed in and connected to WiFi.
Has anyone gotten this working?

Works for me, i install the Kindle app directly from the google market. I was able sign-in, bring up all the books I brought, and is able to read them. So try reinstall your kindle app.
By the way, accidentally click thanks instead of reply, so looks like you got your "tx" hehe.
Okay I reinstalled it, went to re-download Sherlock Holmes... it said I already had it, but it doesn't show up in my list. I clicked "Read It Now" on the store page and it opened the book, but it says "Downloading Interrupted" even though it's at 100%. Only buttons are resume/cancel and neither resolve the issue.
I always get "Sync failed" still too.

Is your NT rooted? Also after download, have you try restarting your NT?
Yeah it's been rooted since day 1, and I've restarted it multiple times.
Did you install the Kindle app from the Google market or the Amazon app store? Just curious. It might matter, I suppose.
Installed via Google Market, which should work since it works for gordon1hd1...

Do you insert an microSD card into the NT? I know that some app won't work without a microSD (Dropbox being one of them). I put an 16GB mSD card into my NT since the first day i got it.
I haven't, I wasn't planning on buying a microSD quite yet.
Any chance you could use a file manager to see if you can find where your books are? This might be the cause after all, I wish the app would actually report why it's getting errors.

I am not at home, so i can't check my NT, but on my Samsung Galaxy S2, the kindle files are stored on /mnt/sdcard/kindle folder.
So i think that is your problem.
For whatever it may be worth, the Kindle app works fine on my non-rooted NT. I do have a microSD card in the slot.
The kindle app works on my nook but it looks like u have to read those books via that application.

Yep, it's the only app that officially decodes their drm. You can transfer those files off and remove the drm (don't ask me how ;P) and import it into another reader though (or convert it around with calibre - great ebook manager software; I definitely recommend it for managing your collection and conversions).
A lot of things won't work properly, save properly, or download correctly if you don't have an SD card inserted into an NT (or NC, afaik), so it's definitely a requirement (@OP) and will be useful for a lot of other programs as well.

[HOW-TO] Install apps not showing up in Marketplace

Note: Root access is required in order for this to work.
Since I've found a workaround to install apps not showing up in the marketplace and haven't seen anyone address the issue other than rewriting system files, I thought I'd post this for people who (like me) don't know how to use the first method.
1) search for the app you want on Google in your browser, ie "xxx android"
2) click on the result leading to the Marketplace website (IMPORTANT: be sure to open the link with your browser and not the Market!)
3) click the "Install" button
4) you will be prompted to login, enter your info (you should only have to do this once)
5) this time, choose to open with Market when prompted
6) click the "Install" button and your app will download!
Hope this helps anyone

When I try this method, the search finds the program I'm looking for but as soon as I log in and open with "Market", not the browser, it replies with "Program not found". So I guess it doesn't work for me.
Thanks for the suggestion, anyway.

What app did you try? I can try the same one and see if it works for me. If it does, I'll try to see what went wrong.

It was iBird Pro. It cost money, but just try to get to the point to where it try's to confirm whether or not you really want to pay for it.
Thanks,
rodorr
Its not working for me either which leads me to believe its the app. Go ahead and try another free app just to see if the method even works.

Worked perfectly with Evernote.
Thanks a ton, less hunting for apks now
I checked Evernote, and Evernote shows up as downloadable for the Nook Tablet without using the work around.

Oh, well then... I feel stupid? Edit: I didn't see it when I tried searching for it in the Market app.
Just tried it with Google Maps and no dice.
Ok, I tried AVG Mobilation Anti-Virus Pro, and it came back with something like "Sorry but you can't download because you haven't paid for it" and then I got the good old "! Your device isn't compatible with this item".

I don't understand how this can work - if apps aren't showing up in the Market on your tablet, surely that's because Market thinks they're not compatible with your NT. And if that's the case, when you sign into your account in the browser, the same thing would happen of not letting you send the app to devices it doesn't think are compatible?
In browser, the Market doesn't even list my NT as one of my devices, even though I'm signed into the Market app on my NT. Any thoughts on this?
I've had this method work twice and fail a couple times. At step 5 when it opens up the market the app still shows as incompatible but it downloads it anyway.
Torrential91, can you give me an example of an app that this worked correctly for you?
rodorr
I just had it work for Real Racing 2 free version.
I tried it with facebook, but there was no download option, just a note saying it was not compatible with my device.
This method was successful in getting to the app page where i could not before.
I tried "Real Racing 2" and it did indeed work for me. It gave me the message "Your device isn't compatible with this item" but it went ahead and downloaded it anyway. So it does work with some items. Maybe it just doesn't work if there is a cost associated with the item.
rodorr
I know Google maps worked for me. I believe Tumblr also worked this way.
Seems like this method is hit or miss. Can't really say why =/ I'm not a dev in any way, just a guy that experiments with trial and error haha.
Maybe a dev can chime in on this?

Having trouble with amazon app store on Nook Simple touch

I've rooted my Nook Simple Touch, running 1.2.1, and I've been trying to use the Amazon App store so that I can get the Kindle app. The problem is, it's searching without bringing up any apps and I can't log into my amazon account. When I try to sign in, it says "There was a temporary error signing you in. Please try again in a few moments." The problem is, it's not temporary. I've been trying for ages. If I search for the kindle app specifically, I get a box that says "Content could not be downloaded because of a network connectivity error." I'm connected to my home wifi and I can navigate the web on my Nook. Any ideas on what's going wrong here?

Well.....first, you're in the wrong forum. The Nook ST forum is here.
Second, there is a version of the Kindle app available in the correct forum that has been customized for e-ink display (better contrast, etc.). That can be found here.
There's been some chatter in the forum recently about the store not working in the app--but I think that's probably true for even the non-customized version. Eventually vendors just stop supporting display requirements or capabilities of older Android versions. The reader certainly works fine and some people have reported being able to access their remote content.
Anyway, that's the place to go for more questions regarding the NST (lucky you, I have both so I saw this post!)
Oops! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Widevine L1 no longer available???

I mainly use my MediaPad M5 8.4 (SHT-AL09) for media consumption on various streaming services. I have had Netflix working perfectly for quite some time, but within the last month (or so) it stopped working. Now when loading the app I get "Can't Connect to Netflix" error message. I tried to view the website via Edge and Chrome with no luck there either. Using the browsers I can get into my account, navigate to a show I want to watch, but then I get an error message. Chrome error message is more detailed and says "We're having trouble playing Netflix. Please visit chrome://components, find "Widevine Content Decryption Module" and click the "Check for update" button. This isn't possible using the Android version of Chrome, so I'm at a loss. Anyone got any ideas?
This may finally get me to go down the AOSP or other ROM route. I have my bootloader unlocked but have resisted the non-OEM ROMs simply because of a lack of good TWRP support and a seeming lack of developers for this device.
Thanks!
Shack
I'm using SHT-W09 8.0.0.200(C567). I'm not having any problem running content in the Netflix app. I can't even guess what might be causing the error. Have you tried accessing Netflix using another device on your LAN?

I did get it sorted out. I simply deleted the Netflix app completely and reinstalled via APKMirror Installer (same way I got Disney+ to install) and everything was good to go when I signed in to the "new" Netflix app. No clue what happened there, but I'm glad I got it working again.
I'm seriously considering loading up one of the GSI ROMs, but my concern over losing the HD playback in certain streaming apps and uncertainty of going back to stock are all that are holding me back.
I have not managed to get level 1 on custom rom yet. Reverted back to stock and regained lvl 1 widewine.
