Do I need a new battery or are my settings messed up - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I own a HTC wildfire. I have some issues with my battery and I can't pinpoint out the reason, these are the issues:
It rarely charges to 100% unless I let it charge for a while and then reboot the phone. But it'll drop really quick
If its charging while switched off and I take the charger off, the charging light will stay on indefinitely
The battery goes really quick, in 90 mins my battery charge is now 38%
When switched off and charging, it never gets the green fully charged light, but if I switch it on it'll say 100%
Do I need a new battery?

Have you tried calibrate it?

I don't know if they did anything differently, but I definitely don't notice the typical 100-90 drop (or avalanche) like with the EVO.
Simple answer, of course its the same.
long answer..not answering, haha
Of course battery stops charging at 100%. Its full. What do you want it to goto 101%

You guys know what he means... geeez. the Evo would read 100% when it would actually be anywhere from 90-100% (before the awesome SBC kernels)
I would also like to know how the charging cycles work on the 3D, I would hope it is different.
its not actually going to charge to 100%, these battery's don't do that, hurts the life of the battery.
what does the phone actually say? Can't say I know, but it doesn't really matter what it say's, its still functionally the same.
I guess ill have to test this out and see

without the battery widget the bar can show at 100% and still be charging till the light turns green.
the battery bar in settings changes too 100% when it reaches 91%
99%-100% takes the longest for the device to register.
The E3D takes longer to charge than my evo with the extended battery
OK. My battery just charged to 100% and I went into battery widget app and it shows that the phone is no longer charging and turns off just like the EVO and starts to discharge...

ok after a few days i've noticed that the green indicator light comes on when its fully charged. when i power it down to charge i cant seem to get it to turn green... has anyone else experienced this?
Let me see if I can shed some light on this.
When I plug my EVO 3D in, it'll go up to 100% and the red light will turn to green. If I leave it on my charger and check on it a bit later, I notice that the battery % will go down to about 95% and then it'll go back up to 100%.
So from my initial observations, it looks like the kernel is very similar to the EVO 4G's SBC kernels. It's quite possible that it is SBC but I guess we won't be able to completely figure it out until HTC releases the kernel source code.
My .02. Hope this sheds some light for others of you to pay attention to

This how li-ion batteries are supposed to be charged, sbc kernels prevented it from ever turning the charger off so it kept feeding the battery power after it was at 100%

Not like sbc, its like the bump charging method.
Og evo went down to 90 then back to 100, so if it only goes down to 95 thats better at least. Sure its not "100" percent of all the battery life... but its 100% of the advertised battery life.
Definitely noticed that it doesn't have that significant drop from overcharging. The battery will stop charging at 100%, discharge, and top off as needed. Much better than what we saw on the Evo.
had battery at 1% , plugged it in , 6 hours later it was at 73%... that normal?

it charges fine, no need for sbc

[Q] 2xBatteries, 100% 15mins, Weird!!

I just got a Samsung Battery Charger/Stand with Battery & have just charged the new battery with it, swapped it for the old one that had just run out when I noticed something weird...
The new battery was showing up as 100% for about 15 minutes. During which time I had the screen on for 3 minutes at full brightness.
What does that mean??
I've never seen 100% for any more than a second after I've unplugged the phone.
I'm assuming there's some difference between the batteries and the stats that are in the phone for the battery. I've used the Battery Calibration app before, when changing roms on my old phone, and that would sort out little anomalies. Do I need to use battery calibration every time I switch batteries?
Will this work itself out?
Will this swapping negatively affect my phone in anyway?
I thank you in advance for your help/suggestions
The phone has logic to not let the battery charge to 100% for too long. The charger does not. Battery calibration apps do nothing.

So... the charger over charged the battery?
Will that damage it?

I posted the same thing in the morning on another thread. Great mind think alike! Haha
Well to me it doesn't mean anything wrong really. Just that the phone doesn't fully charge the battery for safety or maybe heat reasons. Who knows? If samsung desktop charger is approved by samsung its good enough to me.

Guess your right.
So yours was saying 100% for unusually long as well?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
It did on my new one for about 5min. Only but I had wifi on and screen and doing some work. It Wasatch new battery and didn't think much of it. I would say that even that was way more than the immediate 99% once off the charger on the phone

Just read your earlier post. Seems strange that the external charger charges more than the phone. I guess I can't complain about a few extra minutes!

One of my usual days with the battery charged up in the morning on he desktop charger, and I'm now 8 almost and have 72% when previously I was getting about 60% around this time

Battery charging

Hi,
I have installed Remics-JB 3.0.1 from previous ICS rom, and all are perfect except the GPS issue. But only about battery i am curious why the full charging only up to 95%. And my charging indicator change to vertical white battery not the green glowing as usual when power off. Any body experience of the same happen on vibrant? Any clue for recovery?
Thanks.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda app-developers app
The charging icon has been changed in JB. The battery not charging fully is a protection measure however it should go to 98-99%. To charge a battery to 100% and keep it on the charger is bad for the life/health of battery. You should be able to get it to 100% by unplugging the charger, and then plugging it back in. You might have to do it a couple times.
I approve this message.
Ok then, i'll try it. Thanks.

Charging port issue, or battery?

So, I was on my phone non-stop last night and ran the battery down to 2%. I put it on my car mount charger (Sprint I-bolt), where I found it not to charge. Got home and no charge on all my chargers. Frustrated, I assumed my charge port broke. I went back out to my car and tried my best to get a good connection, and what do yah know, a blue light and orange light on my phone. So, I let it charge overnight in my car and brought it inside in the morning. I tried it on my charger, and it charges fine. So, I called my buddy whom is a Sprint tech., and he said sometimes the battery gets so low, they have to pull the battery and put it on a machine to boost the battery.
So, did I let my batt get too low, or do I have a bad charging port?

I've let my battery die down multiple times and I haven't had a problem charging yet. Just letting you know.

Yeah, I could have sworn that I've done this before and had no issues getting it to charge. I don't know what to say, it's working flawless right now.

Phone constantly discharging..

After I installed beans14 my phone was charging extremely slow, and by slow I mean I left it on the charger when I went to bed and woke up five hours later I had only gained about 50% charge. That was about a week ago and my phone hasn't started charging normally again. And now it's to the point of discharging even while it's on the charger. When I check gsam it shows the OS as one of the biggest draws on the battery. Also the gallery is usually 5% of the draw as well even though I never use it since I have quick pic. Here is a screen shot of what gsam shows Atm. And I am now on the t-mobile tweaked Verizon rom
