Our BIG BROTHER "Galaxy S" gets ICS PORT - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

Attention all developers!, It has come to my understanding that porting ICS to our Ace would be a task, but what about making a port of a port? wouldn't that simplify the whole process?
Even tho i9000 has better hardware to our ace it is still obsolete and much older to our device which removes any doubt that older devices are unable to receive ice cream sandwich.
A copy of the port can be found HERE, a few things aren't working at the moment but it does boot and hardware acceleration does work. The first post also contains all the github links so all those with porting knowledge this could be useful. Please spare some time to explore the possibilities. Cheers!

Very interesting post here, the guy is now working on a AOSP ICS port to the P500 which has similar architecture to our ace

I don't think porting a port would help, Galaxy S is very different to Ace, it have an ARMv7 cpu and is an hdpi device, Ace has ARMv6 cpu and mdpi screen.

I'm aware of the difference in hardware but porting from a port should be more like a guideline. At the moment the source refers alot to the Nexus secondly if we communicate with the developer porting it to the i9000 surely he would be able to point us in the right direction as many people didn't think it was possible to get ICS on the i9000

I would trade it for SII but for S? No way!!
i change my s8500 for galaxy s.
For ACE?
No. It has got Qualcomm MSM7227 as AP, what almost excludes ability to port Bada in there, at least for me.
It's pretty "easy" (by this I mean less than 100 hours of work) achievable for SGS series.
Wave M?
I think the hardware of the Ace is verry similar to the new Wave M.. Just try it to port when the Wave M has been released.. The Wave M will be the middle class of the Waves, like the Ace of the Galaxy-series. (like the differences between s8500 and i9000)
Thats why I traded my old Wave for a LG Optimus Black. Maybe it has a bit powerless hardware, but it runs a full stable Android and it works like a charm.
So goodbye Bada, I moved into Android.
i like this
people get what they want, this is future, doesnt matter if with bada or not, by sly i remember your posts

well done
I moved because I'll move all my entire devices to Android if its possible. I have an Eken M009s tablet (which I use in the university for downloading ebooks and PDFs) and a pair of Android phones, a ZTE Blade (I recommend it if you want to get a cheap and good Aphone, with its Adreno200 and 512 RAM) and my Optimus Black.
After having an Iphone 2G, a few Symbian's Nokia and a LG KS20 with Windows Mobile, I can't doubt it: Android is the best phone for a technogeek like me

Android isnt a phone its an OS very important for people that dont know that and read this.
We like here to use the right declarations of such things, this would either confuse users that dont know it right.
Wont you need the BADA source code?
The reason why android can be ported (if not completely because there are chip driver issues like modems not working etc) is because its open source...
To port BADA to any device wont you need the source code to work with?
Samsung is holding bada's source code and i dont think they will open source it at all even if it uses some opensource code.
They did pay for the right to use opensource code into a proprietory system.

WOW like i said befor bada os it's an awsome os and bada 2.0 even more awsome then all oses togeter only thing that it is missing is devlepers and apps and APPS
and then the all world will be using bada os and not symbain (yack!!!!!!!!!) or Ios(realy stupid OS and to complacte togeter that it's making it usless) or Android (i like android to but there isn't something special in it)
or windows phone 7 (what the F#$# is that why we need it )
so i thanking you for add support to show samsung that it had to foucse on bada os from the start and not go to other oses
bada os ruls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
in the future will be bada os for tablets and PC because it actuly have a linux core
I think he is the only one man in the world, who wants badaOS on his ace So don't make big conclusions.
so now it is over, this is more than only offtopic, leave the guy when he is unhappy with android you all should imagine that he can decide which os he will, and why you all always so putting him down.
i cannot get you all, its near a kindergarden what you make here, ok? we shuld now let this thing behind, otherwize i will make here directly an anti android campagne to show the users what is bad about to use it.
when all are fair i will also stay fair, when this thing goes on wrong direction than we all only can be opponents.
i am trying now to finish this childisch diskussion.

While the SDK has been made available, no device source has nor will there be until after the first device officially ships. Google has already made that aspect clear.
A couple of other devices have WIP level alpha's available, all of which are easily months away from "fresh", less stable or worthwhile unless you are a developer. As you are not a developer (and neither am I) I'd suggest being happy with your phone or helping out on some of the Gingerbread ports in progress.
It'll be a while....

developers interest matters... i remember last poll.. ace was fu*king far ahead of many in votes but they dont want to make for ace
and if by any chance that x8 gets miui then it will be matter of time for us to port it to ace
and one more thing miui only supports phones which have cyanogenmod official as it seems....
Biggest stumbling block - the processor. MiUi will not happen for our processor. Unless some incredibly talented coder gets access to MiUi closed source code. Even then probably not.
MiUi is built on Cyanogenmod but has a lot of closed code in the build, and is targeted at ARMv7 devices too, just to make it even less likely.
And we have a crap screen resolution. To add insult.

With you...If just MIUI was open-source...

now, let's talk about porting Windows Phone 7.5 to Galaxy Ace(not just eyecandy)

I am encouraging our devs to develop a WP7 rom for our beloved Galaxy Ace, because our Ace can hold WP7, judging the specifications given by Nokia's new Lumia 610, which sports same tech specs with Ace.

Microsoft = Closed source
Reverse Engineering = Well , good luck with that
Herpderp Defy.
Not possible !
It's closed source
First of all why do you want wp7 ,android is much better .
.... wanna go to jail for porting WP7 to Android? O.O I won't risk it
Ain't gonna happen

trying to run wp7 on an armv6 proc would be something very difficult + wp7 is closed source...try the wp7 rom in the dev section.

I would suggest too but if you read the OP he says he doesnt want any eyecandy WP7 and Jinav's is eyecandy :/
Not possible. Even if someone would manage to overcome all the driver problems because of the different hardware, there is one important difference: the screen resolution. The only resolution supported by WP7.5 is WVGA (800*480)- will change with WP8, but who would invest such an extreme amount of work and time for the Ace then - and the Ace just has HVGA (320*480).

Let me explain it to you very clearly.
Galaxy Ace has an 800MHz ARM11 MSM7225 processor which sucks so bad.
Lumia 610 has a 800MHz Cortex A8 MSM7230 processor which is quantum leaps better than the Ace.
Secondly, Galaxy Ace has a pathetic resolution of 320x480 while all WP75 phones currently has 480x800.
Thirdly, don't expect it to end up like HD2 because HD7 & HD2 has the exact same hardware that's why it was easier to port.
WP7 is closed source so it's nearly impossible to port WP7 unless there is a similar hardware to Ace running WP7.
So, I hope you understand the gravity of your request is simply impossible to achieve.
and the Lumia 610 is running Tango, not Mango.

Here it is.........
GPU driver source was one of the major things missing to port newer roms to the S5, but the S5 is still missing many more things to be able to get a source level port of roms (ie the source for other drivers)
At least hypothecially if used to port CM9/etc to the S5 at least it could get GPU acceleration so everything either works fast or doesnt work at all.
There's still other things though, I dont recall touchscreen driver source being available, and the touchscreen controller on the S5 is rather uncommon(?)
so these two?

The Notion Ink Adam use the same drivers: http://tjworld.net/wiki/Android/Tegra/NotionInk/Adam/HardwareSpecifications
and there is a pre-alpha ics rom from notion ink here for the Adam http://conclave.notionink.com/showthread.php?1173-ICS-Android-4.0-alpha-Download-and-Installation
any of these any help? https://github.com/rrathi/adamICS/tree/master/files
So it does, but regardless I'm not an actual rom dev so you'd need to speak with someone else.
DJ_Steve is one of the official(?) devs for the adam, so I assume he already knew this long ago. But even with that there's likely still more missing.
Also obviously it's not just having the soucre, you also gotta glue together the pieces and that's just as much work, I assume it's the actual gluing together of the pieces that was more of an issue with the TS or something. But I'm working off old memory, I could be wrong about all the details.
