Been reading the threads for the KF? - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

Ranges from bizarre to funny to just plain sad in many ways. First off, kudos to them getting root. That's an achievement. But without any malice intended, many of the posts are sounding like there are many who should never have been allowed near a tablet! Everything from mistakenly deleting entire directories (yikes!) to whines about "ADB is too hard" (meaning "someone hold my hand because I can't read and follow directions"!)
I admit we ALL were newbies at one time and we all made (and make) mistakes but am I being too hard in thinking that it sometimes seems "telling" that the cheaper a tab gets the lower the ability of the user to self-teach? Don't get me wrong, I am still learning myself but criminy! I cannot EVER imagining at least waiting to have a passing idea or clue of what I was about to do to the tablets I have owned before attempting. Maybe I'm just getting to be a curmudgeon...it happens! If so, I profoundly apologize if I offended or hurt someone's feelings but golly.
As for the NT, I can wait for the bootloader issue to be resolved and them this thing is gonna fly!

I've seen similar things in the HP Touchpad forums.

Doesn't every device forums have this segment of the population?

Kidding.

I think dropping the price to $99 brings out a lot more of them...

Time Frame for CM7?

Once a phone is opened up how long does it typically take before we see custom roms like CM7?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
Every phone has it's own dev. Who knows. It happens if or when it happens.
Is it possible to get an official CM7 and not just a port?

THERE IS NO ETA. IT WILL BE DONE WHENEVER IT IS READY
If you want it quicker do it yourself and see how its done
(caps is cruise control for cool )
I think Devs are working hard on that.

Off topic: That was the coolest video ever.
On topic I'm betting we will see some CM7 roms (very buggy ones) within the next couple weeks.
I was just over at their forums. I see an old post that was revived asking for an atrix version, but no other threads. so who knows...
Also when it is done on the At&t atrix, will international users be able to flash it when our bootloader is unlocked or will we have to wait for another port?
There's already a Tegra phone out in the wild running CM7.. oh wait i have one sitting right next to my Atrix. That should make it a decent bit easier to get CM7 working on the Atrix.
This thread should be deleted - the cardinal rule of CM is... do NOT ask for etas!!!!!!!!!! It will be ready whenever its ready...
Devs are working hard on that.
I believe these kinds of threads are VERY necessary...it reminds the devs that we are still wanting CM7...if nobody wants it nobody would post...so this is a way to push the devs....supply and demand =)
I'm not trying to step on anyone's foot, but i just don't understand why u guys get mad simply cuz a guy is asking for an ETA, you never know, maybe one of us may be almost done porting CM7...

So you mean.. you like having a waiter drop by your table every 5mins to see if you are done with your meal because there is a queue forming outside the restaurant? Because what you're saying is basically the same thing.
Devs are doing this on their free time. They are not obligated to do so and even less so to tell whiny little brats when they will be done with it.
IF they're done with it. THEN they're done with it. All this asking for eta will just piss them off and waste valuable time that could have been spent dev-ing instead of replying dumb posts.

Wouldn't it be MORE of a waste of time complaining instead of using that time developing? If people are asking for an ETA that means THEIR INTERESTED...if not, then it would be a big waste of time for you and many other developers investing time and money on something people do not want.
I'm a game developer and i go through the same issues as many developers have here. I don't complain from "potential" customers asking for an ETA...it's a little rude even though asking consistently for an ETA is even ruder. Remember those guys asking for an ETA may be donating money to the developer that completes the Rom, so why shun away the people that ultimately may pay for your living.
I'm pretty sure some and possibly most developers here have aspirations to do this sort of thing as a living; and if so, learn to deal with and grow up, you'll be asked for an ETA numerous times in the business world.
your analogy makes no sense to the topic. If i were you i would sit and think a little before saying the first thought that comes to mind.

I don't think majority of the devs here are doing this for a living, more for interest. I personally don't do any dev-ing so I'm not even sure if I'm right to say this but as a game developer, you yourself have admitted that it rude of people to consistently asking for eta.
But if I were doing this for my personal interest. It won't really matter if nobody wants my work. Because I would be doing it because I wanted to, not because I'm hoping to earn a living from this. I would be pretty god damn pissed every time people were to ask for etas especially if I didn't owe them anything.
Rather then to ask the devs to grow up and "deal" with it. Why not ask those people to simply sit tight and wait?
The analogy is apt, you just probably need a few more cycles to process it.
You mentioned that it is good of people to create these threads so that devs will know that there are still interest in porting over CM7. So similarly, would it be good if someone were to come over to your table every 5mins to ask if you are done with your meal because there are people queuing outside? Think it through. 1) People wants cm7 so they keep creating eta request threads. 2)people are queuing outside the restaurant so the waiter keeps coming over to see if you're done.
That analogy wasn't correct at all.
You've said yourself, they don't cater to us. They do it for fun and because they're interested. I'm a waiter, and it's our job to bother you. We're required to make you as comfy as possible during your dinner or lunch. We're required to get you whatever you need. Within a small amount of time while doing the same for other tables. Even if it doesn't look like you need anything we have to bother the crap out of you. Regardless of queue or not.
Devs are not waiters. They don't have to cater to anyone. But at least the devs will know that we're interested in their work by asking ETA's. I can understand if the whole forum was crying for CM7, but one or two people can't hurt anything, and biting their heads off and throwing bad analogies around won't help anyone.

Video is hilarious lol
Guys I know I am a newbie on this forum but come on... The OP isn't asking for an actual ETA, hes just asking the community if through past experience anyone has a gauge on how long it takes for a Cm7 port to pop up after a bootloader gets unlocked. How is this not a valid question?
Just like on any forum I am sure it is tiresome for the senior members to see the same questions being rehashed with different variables inserted over and over. At the same time however, his subject made it perfectly clear what he was asking for, why bother to even open this thread if you don't want to constructively answer his question?
All of you were new to the scene at one time try to remember that.
In my case I have been wondering the same thing, while I have spent plenty of time programming in .net languages I haven't done any work like this before so I am struggling to wrap my head around the steps needed to port a rom over. (might just dive in myself and take a look though!)
Anyhow guys my intention is not to offend anyone just remind them that we are all not of the same tenure in this android / dev world.

Keeping Gingerbread. What's the big deal about Honeycomb anyhow?

A few days ago was excited to see the Honeycomb update roll out. Running a rooted best buy flyer. The early reports of installing Honeycomb were not appealing. For some of us finding out the exact procedure (after rooting) is still a mystery. There is no clear cut procedure to update.
Other than some minor security enhancements and a tad more speed, what's the big deal to upgrade anyhow?
The newness of HC will eventually wear off and what are you left with? There are posts about apps not working, formatting issues, sluggishness, loss of menu buttons, system crashes, browser crashes, game installation issues, loss of connectivity, gps not locking...etc, WOW!!!
This is not a motivator to upgrade. I'm sure there are embarrassed and pissed of users who were sorry they upgraded.
I'm going to wait until this things are ironed out and some smart dev stops whining about "too many people are pm'ing them for help." Being a dev has it's responsibilities. Telling users to stop asking for help in an open forum is frigging disgraceful. Forums are for helping people not telling people to shut up. We are all volunteers trying to help each other. Get a reality check.
It's going to be a while until most of the apps in the Android market fully support Honeycomb on tablets. For now Gingerbread works fine, headache-free.

Your total lack of respect for people who dedicate personal time for little reward for the love of the device and the platform is disgusting. It would be one thing if it stoped there, but oh no it does not. The "whiny" dev you are referring to did not want pms sent so that the resolutions can be read by all, for the greater good. I am particularly fond of this approach as it is how I learned everything I know about android. Reading others experiences, and learning what to avoid and how to recover

First off, you need to do some damn research as to why Honeycomb is great for tablets. Gingerbread was built for phones, Honeycomb was built for tablets. It makes the most out of your screen space so you can multitask and use larger format interfaces.
Second... WOW.
Congratulations on being the most ignorant petulant child of a poster to ever step into XDA. These developers do what they do out of their own personal interest and creativity. They have NO responsibility to support, update or even RELEASE material to this website. If people like you pulled their head out of their ass long enough to thoroughly read the entire set of instructions and also had a high enough level of reading comprehension to understand said instructions, they wouldn't be getting bombarded with the stupidest PM's for **** like "hai ur rom borke my tablet, i dint wipe data cuz i wunted to save my angry berds game". This is the one and only post I will make on this topic.
I never asked people not to ask for help, I told them to do it in the forums where others could learn from the answers. I make no apologies whatsoever for that position.
Continuously dealing with PMs makes it impossible to deal with the underlying issue for the benefit of the whole community. It's pretty selfish to consider oneself entitled to individual support to the detriment of everyone else. In as far as is possible I have tried to answer every single question asked in every thread I have posted, I'm sure there have been a few missed but the number is small. When people have done that and are still stuck I have provided additional support via teamviewer.
In addition to the honeycomb upgrade released at that time for the Flyer I was working on the S-OFF upgrade for the Evo view, a device which I don't even own and for which I had to start form scratch by first patching the honeycomb hboot. This is a device who's users are pretty much all located in a timezone which meant working through the night for me to support them.
I gave up the vast majority of my Christmas/New Year vacation to these two things and then providing support for them. Yes, there is a responsibility on developers to support their work however that responsibility is primarily to the community, not to any one individual. I have more than discharged any developer responsibilities for work I have provided, had I answered all the PMs I received in that time neither of these two items would yet be resolved.
Is ICS not being developed for this tablet? Honeycomb is old news already.

Keep the flames coming . I'm entitled to my opinion in a public forum. Yes, there are some ignorant requests from people, but there is a polite way of handling things? Moderator's can't ban because they don't agree with somebody's post. Have been involved with XDA since 2008. There are hundreds of forums on a multitude of handsets with millions of posts. All the hard work and long hours are greatly appreciated. This doesn't mean I'm going to sheepishly sit on the sidelines and kiss ass and NOT VOICE AN OPINION. This is a tablet. This is the flyer forum. There are many developers (myself included). I'm not in high school and probably more experienced in the real world than some of these college kids hoping I'll brick my device. It's a $300 tablet that is fun to play with. It's a grain of sand on the beach compared to my other toys. If it bricks will throw it away and get another one.
Was happy to see a honeycomb update. Before you tar and feather the mailman, understand this thread is not about bad mouthing a dev who contributes a lot to the XDA community. It's about respectful communication.
The cons outweigh any benefit to move to honeycomb at the moment IMO.
BTW, this isn't the Soviet Union.

Well you know some people just should just not be allowed to own guns or high tech equipment. But even for those people that have marginal grasp of proper operation of such devices, it would still be OK as long as they only hurt themselves and not those that try to help them. This thread was obviously started by someone that doesn't know how to keep from hurting others and it belongs on the dumpster.
Pretty sad that the OP feels justified to come on here and "speak his opinion" by insulting globatron and call him a whiner. I've been on XDA through 3 different devices over 4 years, and I honestly think he is the most helpful and generous with his time I have seen of any developer or user on all of XDA. He answers just about every question asked of him, and then some. Many developers don't even come close to taking the time to do that. And they shouldn't have to, anyway. Whoever said that just because you are a developer, you have to become everyone's personal unpaid tech support person?
As globatron already indicated, he didn't say he wouldn't help anyone. He just posted some steps to try if you have issues, before bombarding him with PMs. He will still help, and I have seen him help numerous people by opening up a team viewersession, and getting it done through all hours of the night. Is there any forum in the entire internet where a total stranger will give you such help? Not just for smartphones/tablets, but for ANYTHING?
I also don't see the point in coming on here and pigeon-holing your critics as being high-schoolers, and bragging about how you are so rich that you don't care of you brick your Flyer.
No clear cut procedure to update to HC? About 5or 10 minutes of browsing and reading and you would have found that globatron's guide is the way to go. And he was kind enough to spoon feed you the link. All you have to do is download the file and run the .exe. How much easier could it be?
I haven't experienced any system or browser crashes on HC. I'm also puzzled about some people's comments on sluggishness. HC is very snappy for me. Everything seems as responsive as GB. Which is impressive, considering HC is heavier on eye candy and animations. As far as game/app compatibility, it depends on what apps you use. I haven't experienced any compatibility issues. All the core non-game apps I use run exactly as they do on GB. I don't play a huge number of games, but the ones I do play work fine. I know there are some games out there that have issues (Gameloft in particular?). But if the ones you use are compatible, it doesn't matter.
HC is a completely different OS experience from GB, designed for tablet screens rather then a small phone screen. The launcher and menus are all laid out taking advantage of the increased screen real estate. Not sure if its important to you, but the pen integration is hugely increased, and works on many apps, not just Notes and PDFs.
GB was a perfectly functional OS. But it was really just an incremental update of Froyo. HC feels much more refined. While using the Flyer with GB made it feel like just a really big smartphone, HC actually makes it feel like something a step above that. If you don't like the update, its not that hard to roll it back to GB.
Firstly - respect and kudos to the devs and experts that help those of us who are less informed about android and the flyer.
But, I do share something of the OPs sentiment.
The HC upgrade is a pros and cons thing; with the loss of function keys and some reported incompatibilities and some users reporting a slow down.
It is a balance of pros and cons.
The HC upgrade is a step into the unknown and there is no easy downgrade path (which maintains your warranty if you get into difficulty). So it is a plunge... and I too have not yet taken it.

Bootloader Unlocking Effort

Hey all,
I've been a lurker for a while, been looking for a way to encourage the now Google-owned Motorola Mobility to unlock their bootloaders much like HTC has wisely done, but it's becoming more and more obvious to me that they don't care about the "minority" of us that actually feels as though we are entitled to full admin rights on our phones that we either paid a ton of cash for, or signed a lengthy contract to obtain. Verizon is the one blocking it? HTC found a way, and so can Motorola Mobility...that is cop-out.
My proposal is that there be an effort to unlocked the bootloader, I am not some expert programmer, and I am open to whatever will help the cause. I know there was a bounty on it, but to me this isn't about money, I'll donate time, money, information ripped from my phone if it, in some way, contributes to unlocked that bootloader. Even if you need my unused CPU cycles to calculate things, I don't care, just tell me what I can to do help, because I am sick of not being able to use my phone to it's fully potential.
Maybe I am being naive, but I believe if we all worked together we could accomplish this goal. If you agree, please, let's organize and figure this out!
-Joshua
I love optimism
I'm down with the movement...
This phone does have mad potential to be so limited compared to other phones.
I just can't believe that we are running an unofficial, incomplete version of CM7 and it runs smoother than stock Blur.
Is that telling you something about Motorola?
Do you guys think Google will make that decision for Motorola or will Moto stay the same?

Worth a try...
Re: Google changing Moto policy
I don't know so much about Google changing Motorola's stance on the locked bootloader, we've tried petitioning the company themselves, but have we tried petitioning Google? Or maybe it's too soon, maybe they are working on it right now? Hard to tell, and I don't want to put pressure on Google too soon especially if they are trying diligently right now to do the right thing.
But the above poster is right, cracking it ourselves is definitely worth a try. I have contacts (unfortunately know inside Motorola), I know people with lots of knowledge on encryption, I'll be honest one of my friends does have a knack for the impossible, but this would be too much for one lone person. I also have a few computers in the house, to donate computing power. None above 5 GB of RAM unfortunately, but my friend with all of that know-how does also have a synchronous 20/mbit up/down connection to the net, if that helps, and I have another friend that is the linux admin at a an unnamed private university in Durham that might could lend a hand in some way.
We have the resources, we just need to pool them.
Someone with the realistic technical know-how, just tell us where to begin, and the shortest path to getting to our goal and we'll do all we can to contribute!
Thanks for understanding and not just writing this off as a pipe-dream...because I know if we work together we can accomplish almost anything.

SHA-1 brute force can be cracked for around $2 of Amazon cloud computing service.
http://www.geek.com/articles/news/r...for-2-10-with-amazons-cloud-service-20101122/
Isn't boot loader use SHA-1 encryption?
(of course, the key may be much longer, but it may not be impossible for cheap. I say try to pool together like $100 and try Amazon cloud computing a try?)

I like the way you're thinking, does anyone else think this might be a good call? I know there was a bounty of around ~$800 somewhere, so I doubt if all of us who rightfully were promised and unlocked bootloader wouldn't mind pooling a bit of money for the computing power, hell I myself would give $50 to the effort if we knew it was a viable solution.
Other thoughts?
Also, ztotherad, if you could send me those PMs maybe we can sift through those and see if there are some other avenues, nothing is off the table at this point.
thanks again for coming together on this, that is the true meaning of community.

Uh, I think it's already been established that brute forcing it is impossible.

In one of the many threads concerning bootloader unlocks, I believe the chances of us finding it were determined to be 1mill:1. It would take us over a decade to manually come up with the key. I don't want to kill confidence, but I'd like to keep things relatively rational.

it's been established that brute forcing is nearly impossible, not completely impossible
it is something that would take an insane amount of resources to accomplish , and/or time ,
it would really come down to "how lucky are we?" really, as in::: how lucky are we that we stumble across or know a genius that can crack it, stumble across needed files, etc...
good luck to all who try, I wish I could do anything to get us there, but I don't know the first thing when it comes to this stuff, don't give up the dream!
Basically, what it comes down to is:
Find out what their hash key is. (encrypted password)
Then, try to go through all valid characters and see whether the input matches the output hash.
If one is lucky and they used short enough password, then it will be quick to find.
If unlucky and they used really long password, then the answer is that we won't be able to find it in REASONABLE time. (I would say 1-2 months to be reasonable - at $2/hr, it would cost $48/ day).
Only issue is when do we stop?

There was some kind of crazy algorithm applied to each character to generate the correct item for each number of the key, correct? We would have to come up with that too?

THANK YOU! Finally ... a revived movement. I pledged $100 on another thread and I'm good for putting it toward an unlocked bootloader again!
To learn from one of the most influential groups of our generation ... anonymous utilizes botnets to pool computing resources ... if we get a tool that could function similarly, could we not pool 1000s of computers together to crack it faster? It would make what is not feasible for a small set of computers to do... feasible. If all most users have to do is download a tool that gives us access to processing power and bandwidth ... users will download the hell out of it.
Count me in.

I understand doubters, and odds are likely against us, but that's ok, no one person can do it, and maybe not just one method, but somehow we WILL get to our goal. Whether Motorola capitulates or we find a method to crack it, we will not have this awesome hardware go to waste.
I am not generally a "black hat" kind of person, but in this case we are in the right so far as I am concerned (please don't quote DMCA BS to me, lol) because they made a promise to their customers, and it will be kept, whether they like it or not.
So, I am with the above poster that mention he didn't know quite where to start, or where we have already made progress, but if someone can help us out, explain the process, we figure out how to move forward. (Please forgive the run-on sentence).
I've minimal experience programming, only VB.net, C++, and a bit of Java from college, and I do tier 2 desktop support for a bank these days, but on my off time I'd love to spend it on something worthwhile, all of you deserve this, and we'll make it happen.
Maybe it's the troubleshooter in me that sees the problem and says "oh no, there's a way, we just need to find it". I have a colleague, the one I spoke of before, he has a knack for doing incredible things, so once we have a breakdown of what we need to do, perhaps he can be of help.
So my friends, where do we go from here?

OPT - Often Posted Threads.... Sigh read this first please

Ok after a dozen of the same posts, complaints, observations posted over the last little while hopefully people will read this and stop posting new (read useless) threads.
HALP! my browser / launcher / whatever isnt as fast as my phone!
Yes, different devices, different reactions. The same way two different cars may react differently the stock browser on the prime and on your nexus s, htc, samsung, etc. will react differently.
It is no secret that the stock browser and stock launcher can be laggy at times. If you dont like it try a different launcher and different browser.
To do a proper comparison between two different devices you should load the same launcher and same browser on both devices. Please stop and think before posting "my phone is faster than this %$#@ prime" threads, do proper tests, know that we know the launcher and browser are slow, and use one of the suggested solutions.
OMFG! Da prime is discontinued!
At least three threads i have been in TODAY have people speculating the prime is discontinued. "An asus employee told me, my store stopped recieving stock, my local store has them on clearance"
As of this date there has been no official word from Asus reguarding the status of the prime. Please do not post threads about this unless there is something official, or you have proof.
Actually, know what? please just dont post these kinds of threads. Speculation never got anyone anywhere.
WTF! My GPS / / Wifi works / doesnt work
Ok, we pretty much all know at this point the wifi and gps are crap on the prime. Some people have better than others, some people find weird solutions.
Im personally convinced there are several plecibo fixes (you THINK they work because you WANT them to work). There is yet to be found a fix that works for everyone, aside from having wires hanging out of the prime. Lots of threads about this, read the "opened my prime" thread (all 100+ pages of it) lots of good info.
I WANT ROOT, WHY CANT I HAS ROOT! .21 issues...
Ok, seriously? Few things i gotta clear up...
Just because its easy to root ONE android device does not mean its easy to root ALL android devices. Also consider we HAD root before .21 which was a pretty good effort from the devs. Asus patched the hole used to root, now we need to find another way. Complaining will not get us root faster. Yes, we all know you want to root your prime, just give devs time to figure it out.
CAN I HAS UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER AND KEEP MY WARRENTY TOO?
No. just no.
The reason its easier with samsung devices is because samsung does not lock their bootloaders and actually gives us the tools to flash new kernls / roms to our phones. Asus does not do this, in fact they try to make it hard on us. The only way to unlock at this point is to send your serial to asus, they do some fun math with it, and send you an unlock code. Deal with it, use the unlock asus gave us or dont unlock at all.
HOW DOES I GET GPS DONGLE?
The GPS dongle was prematurely leaked. It will be officially announced when its ready, not a moment before.
Basically, when its ready you can register your serial nubmer with asus, they will send you a GPS attachment (fixes to the dock connector on the prime), should be available in the next week or so, stay tuned. VIP.asus.com, should be announced April 16 (ish), expect a month to have it ship once they have your info. Should be free for every prime owner.
OH LOOK! SHINY PRIME SUCKS/ROCKS COMPARED TO ______
For serious? Because there are not enough comparison threads already (use the search, its what its there for) you had to make another? If we want comparisons we can easially search youtube, there are literally dozens of em. Sure its nice to know how this device stacks up against another but there has got to be a thread you can post in already, no need to make another one. (Also, warning, you may get banned, just sayin)
Thanks for taking the time to read this, may your future posts be constructive and benefit the community!
You might want to add the stupid comparison threads although those have all been b& recently.

It wouldn't be so bad if there was one of each of them but as soon as one pops up 15 more pop up. For a certain period of time I only went into the dev section because it was a huge flame war about prime vs iPad...

I'm confused, my gps sucks, wifi stinks, I want my gps dongle, my Prime is laggy compared to my HTC Aria and my Prime kicks the new iPads ass.
Should I go ahead and make separate posts for each problem?
Oh ya, here's my home screen.
Thanks for the thread .
There should be like an Android quiz before you are able to post (newbs can still register and read) new questions.
Kinda like a Sgt's exam for cops or something similar.
Something not too hard but will require some sort of experience and/or common sense with regards to Android devices.
Updated to include comparison threads.
Lol Nefariouss sorry you think its useless, i was hoping that people might read this thread and know not to post the same types of threads we see pretty much on a daily basis here. If you do not tire of the same quesitons being asked or the same statments being posted every day you are much more patient than I, and I commend you. Well done!
scataldo721 ya, sad isnt it? however it would be a much better place donchya think?
theandies: Lol, thanks for the chuckle.
admartian: I agree, however then we wouldnt have half the posts on the forum, there would be a lot less spamming and flaming, people might treat each other with respect, use the search button, and post relitive topics!..... we cant have that now can we

[Q] HDX 7", Towelroot, and disabling OTA

I'm infinitely sorry if there is a helpful thread that speaks to this, but I cannot seem to find anything of note.
I have an HDX 7" 13.3.2.4_user_3240022120. I have root with Towelroot. I can't seem to find substantive information on disabling OTAs rooted with towelroot. I hear Towelroot disables OTAs. I hear Towelroot does not disable OTAs. There seems to be conflicting info on this subject. Could someone direct me to a thread that answers this question. The internet as a whole and GOOGLE are not really helping either. Maybe I'm just goofy
If it can't be answered somewhere in these forums, I am pretty sure it can't be answered anywhere.
Any guidance appreciated.
Thanks

Thanks so much. I'm embarrassed. I should have located the info myself. It most definitely is a teachable moment. I am truly heartsick. Your effort in helping me, has claimed precious time you can never get back; time you could have been spending with your family. After writing this thank you note, I will face north and summarily flog myself, with coaxial cable, while rubbing a mixture of salt and isopropyl alcohol, into my wounds. I think we can all agree, the condescension and chastising was appropriate for the crime. It's certainly a powerful teaching tool. I'll be adopting this valuable method, for the sake of my students, at NYU. I realize the world would be a much better place without noobs. We certainly should not be allowed to reproduce. It just weakens the gene pool. Our pesky survival instinct keeps us from an innate and fruitless desire, to be better; to grow as a human being.
A quick thought. Just because something is "obvious" to an individual, it does not necessarily make said observation true.
I appreciate your effort on my behalf. Volunteering to be a surrogate for the missing parts of my brain, is noble. I am painfully aware that you were not required to step in. I know it was an empathetic choice. A decision made out of pity. Your are a good person. Someone, others, should try to emulate. I hope the forthcoming jpgs of my self mutilation will somewhat supplant your annoyance. My wish for you; the memory of this incident will fade quickly. No one likes a terrible recollection lingering in the subconscious, leaving a bad taste on the brain. I only wish that I could do more to show my appreciation. Pressing the "THANKS" button seems little consolation.
Kidding aside, you helped me solve a nagging issue. I am un-sarcastically grateful.
Peace

GSLEON3 had posted a video about whiny people asking for help, whilst not even answering simple questions, to help solve their problem, for them. Here
I solved my OTA issue BTW. THANKS.
The video reminded me of a transcript taken from a tech support phone call at Word Perfect (not even sure WP exists anymore) The story is pretty old, and depending on your age, you may or may not have heard it. Although, I have had my moments of terminal cluelessness (as was the case on these forums recently), I am 30 years tech savvy (UNIX, LINUX, IRIX, Mac, PC, Networks, High-end CG), and can certainly feel the pain SENIOR users feel, The endless annoyances can make you lose faith in the continuation of humanity. I agree, it is frustrating to help someone, with no initiative to learn. When I help someone with a problem, I sometimes feel as though, I have entered the TWILIGHT ZONE. "They could not have possibly meant to ask that question, not out loud, at any rate. I have obviously misheard their question. These are people, that will be responsible for saving the lives of their patients." It's at about that point, my hair get's numb, and rather than have a major "brain event", I hallucinate, and see them as fish, flopping around on dry land. Anyhoo...
This is hysterical. Word Perfect
