Cannot install apps from amazon app store - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

I have the amazon app store installed on my Nook tablet but none of the apps will install (tried 5 different ones). I keep getting the following error message:
'The application was not able to install onto your device. Please "Archive" and then "Unarchive" the application to try again.
I obviously have allow unknown sources checked and also have a 8 GB Micro SD card installed which the Nook tablet recognizes. Any ideas on why I am getting the error message above? Thanks for any suggestions.

Are you doing App Install or Package Install? If anything, try re-installing the Amazon Appstore. Good luck

By any chance, are these apps that you bought and installed previously on another device? I had that problem with the Kindle app but not with a couple of others. I tried one or two other methods too, and finally had success getting Kindle from a free software website.

did you try resetting the nook? i didnt have the EXACT same issue but i did have issues downloading things and a simple reset fixed all of that for me. i still have things that say "this is not compatible with your device" which is crap because i sideloaded the .apks of the same apps that WERENT from the amazon store and they worked just fine.

That sounds like what happens when you use app installer rather than Package Installer.

I've just rebooted my nook Tablet to see if that fixed my problem, which is the same as the OP's except I haven't been able to install ANY .apks after setting the "allow 3rd party apps" checkbox.
Specifically, I'm trying to get mobovideo to install, also four or five other video players, and Amazon Marketplace. I can download all of these no problem, but when I click on the download it tells me it can't install and says something about trying to "Archive then Unarchive" the file and try again. Which I would try if I knew where downloaded .apks go...I did find my second Am Market download (fat fingered the install so downloaded twice) under My Downloads, but the only option I get when I touch it is "Delete".
I'm downloading all this stuff on the device. Is that my problem? Does the sideloading need to be done from a microSD?
Thanks!!!

Here is an apk of Moboplayer that I installed no problem on nook tablet.

Just ran a quick test -- While some apps won't load due to incompatibility, the couple of successful tests I did worked fine. I did do them as package installs.
This is using a sideloaded copy of the Amazon Market.

The fix was to take the micro sd card out of the Nook and delete the entire contents of the card and then reinstall the amazon app store. All apps install fine now. Strange since I deleted the contents of the card before inserting it originally. Not sure why I had to do it again...

When an app is incompatible, do you get a message like the ones we've been posting, or something more helpful?
Can anybody comment on my using a direct download rather than sideloading via microSD? Is this simply not the way to do it?
bkerk25 -- thanks, I'll give that apk a try in the morning and let ya know

I have used both sideloading and direct download with few issues at all. Some apps simply won't install right now either way. I have recieved the same error message you described a couple of times.

It's a light error message that states the program is not compatible with my device. No details on why

Alrighty. I'm not sure what's different, but I went back to comptonsoft.com/test/ and tried downloading AppMenu. This time it worked, I was able to install it and view the "secret" options which I haven't seen since the initial attempt, and am now browsing Amazon Apps. I hadn't attempted to go back to that app since rebooting, so maybe that's what I needed to do. Also, I was habitually hitting App Installer first, then Package Installer when that failed, so I dunno, maybe that messes things up.
Anyway, thanks for this great workaround xda folken!

I'm having the same problem. I've tried:
Removing and replacing the sd card
Using a different sd card
Trying to install all kinds of different apps
Resetting the device
Reinstalling the amazon app store (actually, I get the same error when i try to install even that or Appmenu now)
Factory reset
Nothing works and it's very frustrating. I think I might try to exchange it for a new one, unless someone here has a better idea

maybe try transferring the apk's from your sd card to the system\app folder using ES file explorer or root explorer and install from there?

Angry birds install?

Am i missing a step? I downloaded angry birds from Amazon on my NC rooted since i could not find it with the NC market place and i have the install icon but it errors out everytime i try to install it. I have selected app install and package install and both error out. I did download kindle app from amazon and that works so i atleast know i can download something. My SD is also inserted.
Thanks in advnace for the help!

try taking out the sd card to download
no luck. it states that it requires an SD card. I tried downloading it from Appplanet and still no luck but ive been able to get other stuff installed and going....home switcher, dolphin HD, facebook, ADW launcher...and so on...
What version of android are you running? You shouldn't be having that much trouble with it. Other options are to find an .apk and install either with a file explorer or installer app.

[Q] What am I Missing

I have a gtab with custom ROM Calkulin-Clemsyn Combo Overclock at 1.5ghz V6. It came with VTL Launcher V1.6.1 installed and running great.
I tried to update to VTL Launcher V 1.6.5 without any luck. It goes through the install process but I get a message "Application not installed."
What am I doing wrong???
Thanks.
You're not really doing anything wrong. THe market identified that you have the app, but since you didn't download it from the market (it came preinstalled) it may not install it becuase of that.
just go here:
http://vegantab.gojimi.com/vt-labs/vtl-launcher/
and download the APK and sideload it.
File link: http://vtlab.com/downloads/VTLLauncher_1_6_5.apk
They have instructions on their website, so I suggest you read them first
Still No Luck
I downloaded the app to a thumb drive plugged into the gtab, and opened the file. Told to install, but get the same "did not install" message.

Might be worth trying to uninstall the old one before you try to install the new one. Havent seen this on my gtab, but it happens on my phone sometimes. Uninstall using the Applications settings (or moving the apk if that does not work).
Since it is probably your default launcher you might have to download some other launcher (launcher pro?) and maybe Home Switcher to switch to it, make sure it works, before you uninstall VTL.
Anyway backup your rom (using CWM), before you try removing any system app in case you end up launcher less.

[Q] How to sideload .apk off the browser

Hello!
I rooted my NT (1.4.2 8gb) about one-two weeks ago, but I'm still having problems trying to get apps from the browser. I downloaded the NT Hidden Settings apps and when I finally managed to make the "Unknown Sources" box stay checked by immediately turning off my nt right after clicking on the "Unknown Sources Hack", it didn't make any difference.
This is what happens: I download an .apk off my browser, go to Downloads, then click the download. It'll pop up with a message asking to complete the action using the App Installer or the Package Installer. If I click the App, it'll will say, "Unable to intall. This application was not able to unstall onto your device. Please try "Archive" and then "Unarchive" the application to start again." If I click Package, it'll say, "Parse error. There is a problem parsing the package."
And it will do this with every .apk except for the one at http:comptonsoft.com/test/ called "AppMenu" which does basically the same thing as NT Hidden Settings. I've tried using ES File Manager, but when I go to the App Manager, the downloaded file isn't there for me to move/backup/fiddle with.
Also, I'm not sure if his is related to the issue at hand, but when I try downloading other apps I know for sure have an android version, it tells me it's incompatible with my device.
Can somebody please let me know how to fix my problem???
Thanks in advance.
You should be using the package installer, not the app installer, based on my experience. The package installer gave me the same results you see.
In 1.4.2 you can't sideload that way but by installing/pushing apps with adb might work. That is why many 16GB NT users prefer going back to 1.4.0 where sideloading is not an issue but the thing is 8GB NT users can only have installed 1.4.2 internally otherwise you will brick your device.

[Q] Application already exists...

I am experiencing a weird issue, that I have not yet found a solution for.
I have been using a different media player for a while, and have decided I want to use Google Play Music again.
When I try to install from the market, I get an error "Application already exists..."
Well, no it doesn't it.
I tried downloading the APK to install directly outside the market,
but the package installer gives another error: "X Application not installed"
So, which is it? Is it already installed, or is it not installed?
I think there is a file somewhere on this phone that makes it think Google Play Music is already there,
but for the life of me I cannot find it.
I tried opening the APK to see if the contained files are already on the phone somewhere,
but I am not having any luck.
Can anyone help here?

You tried wiping?
or you maybe pushed an app to system, without changing permissions. the app will be installed, kinda.
I'd wipe.

Yeah, I am sure wiping will resolve the issue, however I still do not know the cause, so I am worried if I go through all the trouble of a full wipe I may unwittingly reproduce the same error later anyway.
I did not try to push an app to system...
In digging around I don't find any java packages that refer to music. This has me scratching my head.

Try going into system and looking for the google play music apk. maybe its there but just corrupted.
Reboot your phone. Had the same problem on my tab .
Thanks for trying guys. Nothing worked... factory reset did the trick.
On the positive side, a full restore using TBU (including system data) when not changing roms is quite effective

I had the same problem with sywpe at one time. Even though the .apk was removed from /system/apps AND from /data/apps it still thought it was installed. Turned out
it was a file in /system/lib . If yer still interested in how it happened for ****s and giggles that may be it.

Can't install APK files outside of Play Store?

I recently upgraded from an Android 7 phone (Moto G5) to an Android 9 phone (Moto G7). I like to back up all of my apps that I plan on using in the future, using a backup app like ML Manager, and installing them locally with a file browser, like FX. On my new phone, there are some APK backups that I can't install from a file browser; even if I actually download them though the Google Play Store, back them up, uninstall them, and then try to install that backup on the same phone, it won't work. Not every app does this, and at first, I thought it was only paid apps that were giving me problems, so I chalked it up to DRM, but a bunch of free apps won't work, either.
I've tried alternate methods of installation, too, like using a terminal emulator (see the screenshot, using the app Manual Camera as an example), and ADB on a PC, which results in an INSTALL_FAILED_VERIFICATION_FAILURE error. I've searched for this error and followed directions, like disabling Play Protect (which I never enabled on this phone, anyway), but nothing works. Is this just how Android is now? Did something change so that it's harder to install backups? I tried all of this on my wife's phone, too, which also runs Android 9, and I got the same errors. Any help would be appreciated, because I'm out of ideas. Thanks in advance!

Some apps are different for noghat and pie Android
So there is no grantee that you can install all APK that you backed up on noghat for pie
Download them from Google
It should completely work
Make sure that you have free space on internal storage and when you wanna download them make sure that download arm/arm64 version

Yeah, downloading from the Play Store definitely works, I'm just curious as to why backing up an app downloaded from the Play Store won't install from the APK *on the exact same device.* I'm a stickler for keeping local backups of everything, but I'm more curious than anything at this point.

Well there is a another reason
That is some app install with APK
And other one install with APKS
which you should install them with SAI and have two or three file to install (even more)
And when you backup from apks apps it doesn't backup all files to install it again
But at play store it install automatically

Holy crap, dude, I had NO idea that split APKs were a thing. I downloaded Split APK Installer from the Play Store, and I can make and restore local backups again. Thank you so much for the info, it was exactly what I needed!
