[Q] Which is the best tablet for the discount I can get? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so I can get a discount on a few different Tablets and I am wondering which is the best bang for the buck? All these are new in box devices and the 3G model of all not the Wifi only versions.
$227 G-Slate
$350 Galaxy Tab 10.1
$250 Galaxy Tab 7 Plus
$225 T-Mobile Springborad
Or a dark horse candadite the HTC Flyer for $300 new from Best Buy (I can't get a discount on it but I'm reaaaaaly partial to HTC and I think Scribe is reaaaly cool!)
I'm not too sure I like the form factor of 10 inch tabs they just seem too big for me but idk... any advice?

61 views and no one even has an opinion? Lol! Come on guys I can't make up my mind I just know I want one! I like the Flyer the most but the others I have the ability to bill to my phone bill which is nice!

I would go with one of the galaxy tabs. I perfer 10 inch, but some people think 7 fits better in hand. They probably have the best user experience and it feels snappy and responsive. They are also crazy thin. Discount aside, those tablets are the best!

Thanks man I appreciate the opinion. I was leaning toward the 7plus if I didn't get the Flyer. Then the G-Slate became avalible so now I'm torn again. So far Im thinking Flyer, 7plus, G-slate.

[Q]Atrix Now or Wait???

Now that the Atrix has an unlockable bootloader, Gingerbread, and is only $100 on contract, should I wait for something better (Galaxy S II or HTC Holiday) or go ahead and upgrade? Is the Tegra 2 as good as the Exynos? Is the WVGA SAMOLED Plus display better than a qHD screen? Will the SGS2 be worth an extra $100 on top of what the Atrix costs now?
My only real problems with the Atrix were the fact that is wasn't very hackable and that it only had two touch points (which really wasn't a big deal to begin with) and now that both have been fixed, I want to know if the Exynos (or dual-core qualcomm) is a better processor and if the phone as a whole is worth the wait and extra cash.
Exynos will be faster as it has support for the arm neon commands and both are cortex a9. Although I'm pretty sure the tegra 2 is faster than the qualcomm proc in the sensation and evo 3d.
I got frustrated with t-mo today, and returned my lightly used sensation and bought a used atrix off contract in the hopes that it will tide me over till a Nexus 3 (it's a longer story). So far I'm happy with my decision simply because of the recent bootloader unlock.
I like the qHd over the samoled simply because I don't do much phoning outside, and the extra pixels are worth it. I can deal with the slightly worse contrast ratios to benefit by having more pixels to play with.
btw today fry's has the atrix for $49.
Thanks for your opinion npoc, it was really helpful. $50 is a hard deal to pass up and I don't know if the increase in processing power will be worth a price tag that's 4x the atrix's...but idk I always like having the latest and the greatest. I may have to sleep on this one.
I'm sure whatever I get I will be happy with it.

If you care about games, Tegra 2 is preferable though not required, as though games will be developed for Tegra 2 you can use apps like Chainfire to get around that restriction albeit dealing with some bugs.
The Galaxy S II is a very promising contender, but the quality could be different than seen in Europe with the US carrier models. Also, the deal with the screen not being as nice or something is still around.
And I think the Atrix is 1 penny at Amazon right now

Ya, I found that 1 cent deal, the only problem is I'm not a new customer...and I'm on a family plan so I can't even get the $30 deal. But, I don't know the logistics of the Fry's deal so it could be something similar.
Ugh, I just wish the SGS2 would be released on AT&T already so I could just go in the store and see them both in my hands to figure out which one I really want.
I'm thinking of now getting the atrix as well. I'm sick of my nexus one amoled screen using so much power displaying white colors.
I just spent an hour with the atrix and the screen looks beautiful. But I run cyan 7 AOSP so that might take a while now that it's unlocked. Ugh what to do.

Get it! I loooooooooooooooooove mine!
I couldn't stand it anymore and I went ahead and bought the Atrix! When I was in the store the guy said the unofficial word on the SGS2 is August and that was too long for me so I made the executive decision to buy the Atrix. From the hour that I've had it, all I can say is I think I am going to be very very happy with my decision
I compared the Atrix screen to the Infuse and honestly, the extra brightness and saturation didn't make too much of a difference. I think I will enjoy the 4" screen size as well as the qHD resolution more than the 4.3", WVGA screen the SGS2 has. Even without rooting and bootloader unlocking, this seems to be awesome phone and I can't wait till tonight when I have time to sit down and hack this thing up!

Which device should I get?

Hi everyone,
So basically tomorrow is my birthday and my parents would be getting me something. I was thinking of a new gadget.
I currently have the Google Nexus S
So for mobile device I've got the Galaxy Nexus in mind, or the HTC one X.
But lately I've been thinking about tablets. I do not mind getting a tablet to pair with my Nexus S. I was thinking about the kindle fire, but I do not know how to get it in Singapore. Or the Asus Transformer, but im unsure of it because of the price.
So can you recommend me a tablet that lies with the price range below 350-400USD or $500 SGD. ?
So what do you think? And or is the galaxy nexus upgrade a better choice? Please help in advising me. I'm in a dilemma.
Thank you so much!!

If I were in you I would only think about the Samsung Galaxy S2 (i9100) or the Samsung Galaxy Note.
The S2 is very well supported by a wide community of modders, has got a marvelous screen, and great hardware.
The Note is bigger but still smaller than a tablet, and gives you the possibility to use a very sensitive stylus.
Have a look at the size, and have your choice. If my S2 breaks I will buy a Note.
HTC One X has a Tegra 3 chip, currently the most powerful SoC solution. So I would suggest going for it - it wil be powerful even after 2 years.
S2 or Samsung Galaxy Nexus
I got the S2 but i would rather want the Samsung Galaxy Nexus cuz it's more "Google" if you know what I mean.. cuz i hate the touchwiz, I know you can get a ROM but still.. AND the nexus got the Navigation Bar!
If I were in your place I would have gone for tablet, having two gadgets of different leagues is better than upgrading one.
Thanks guys, I would take all your advice into account. I am hoping for more replies because all your replies are opposite one another

Ok I'll add some more to your confusion!
Getting a new device is like getting a new pair of shoes. You should get the one that fits you comfortably. Here's a short list of what I'd get if I were to buy a phone (depending on need/want):
*available phones only
-Xperia S: Camera monster and cheaper than the OneX, at Par with SGS2's performance
-OneX: future proof (probably good for the next 2-3 years), powerful GPU
-Samsung Galaxy Nexus: timely updates (that's it)
-Samsung Galaxy S2: wide dev support, probably still good for the next year or so (but the resolution is too low IMO)
-OneS: beats the OneX in some benchmarks (in their native resolutions), IMO S4 chip is better than the 4-PLUS-1 A9 tegra 3, more affordable too.
IF you're going for a TAB and you can't afford a Transformer Prime don't settle for the Nook or a Fire. I suggest you get a Motorolla XOOM. It's tegra 2 powered and has an HD screen (1280x800) compared to the 1024x600 of the Nook and Fire, and it has a very wide dev support.
I suggest you go for a TAB and don't upgrade your phone. That way you'll have your Nexus S (which can still run almost every app on the Play Store) and have the XOOM for your multimedia satisfaction
Happy Birthday bro! good luck on your gift!
We have a number of tablets here where I work, and the one that I like the most is defiantly the Asus transformer. But that being said I agree with the last guy the XOOM is a good one and also is most acers. But price aside I would say the Transformer Prime would be a fine choice!

Thanks dude!! I really sincerely appreciate it it must have taken you a lot of time to write that out. Thanks good news I've got a few more days to decide. And haha you've added to my confusion
I've ruled out tablets for now.. this is due to the reason that I wouldn't bring it outside of the home anywhere with me unless I'm going overseas on holiday. This is due to school and lack of time..
So now you've narrowed me down to 2 devices which I had my eyes on. The One X and the Galaxy Nexus. Looking at the One X's development section it Loos empty. That's probably due to cwm being recently released for it. So in the 5days room I've got (parents waiting for a $150 voucher, phone costs $400) I will check the development section of the One X.
Now I wonder, which roms do you think will come to the one X? Aokp? Cm9? These are some basic concerns I have.. looks like I might have to actually go with the One X. How about MIUI on the One X?
Something that bothers me is the One X has a very different look from the Nexus. Minimalistic stuff on the launcher would be pretty difficult to achieve.. so any screenshots of cool designs done on the One X?
Thank you all guys! I hope you had a good day.

It's kind of hard to recommend a phone better than the Galaxy Nexus in it's price range. However I have 2 options I'd consider:
Xperia S:
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=4219&idPhone2=4369
pros:
-Best Camera in the android world
-32GB storage
-Sony's reputation of giving updates even to older devices (X10 came out with Donut and came as far as Gingerbread)
-Better CPU (1.5GHZ snapdragon vs 1.2GHZ TI-OMAP)
-with card slot
cons:
-no gorilla glass (can be offset with screen protectors though)
neutral:
-SuperAMOLED vs LED-Backlit_LCD (matter of preference)
-4.3" vs 4.65" (matter of preference)
Samsung Galaxy S2
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=4219&idPhone2=3621
pros:
-definitely more afordable
-with card slot
-better camera
-more powerful SoC (better processor and GPU)
-very wide dev support
cons:
-not retina display
neutral:
-4.2" vs 4.65" (matter of preference)
Both these devices are significantly more affordable than the Galaxy Nexus and both has the same, or even better, performance.
Personally, I can afford the OneX but I'll be getting the Xperia S. IMO (benchmarks aside) there is nothing the OneX can do that the Xperia S can't, at least for the next year or so. And in two years time I'll probably be changing phones again, so I'll go with the Xperia S for now.
Hope this helps

[Q] Other tablets with active stylus?

Hey all,
My Jetstream was stolen on the weekend, and I need to get a new tablet. However, I want one with an active (aka pressure-sensitive) stylus, as I had grown quite attached to that feature on the Jetstream.
My initial reaction was to get a Flyer or another Jetstream, but I started wondering if there's a more popular tablet (aka one that has/will get ICS and/or JB) that has the same functionality.
Thoughts anyone?
Lenovo Thinkpad is an option - it also comes with an active N-trig stylus. They already have ICS. But I am not so very sure of the pricing and the hardware. Other option would be to wait for the Note 10 inch which I have no idea about but seems to be well spoken of like most other Samsung devices. I found the Jetstream to have the best hardware combo - only drawback as you know the software development which seems to have developed some interest as of now. If i were in your situation, would have gone for a Jetstream again because I like the Sense UI better than others.
Cool, I didn't know about the Lenovo... although a guy I sometimes work with has one, and it's thick and ugly.
I was just reading about the Samsung Note 10.1 and it looks awful tempting, I think I'll probably hold out for that. I've got an HP TouchPad with CM9 on it that I can cope with for the next few weeks. (And hopefully the Nexus 7 spurs Samsung to drop the retail price of the Note 10.1 down from the rumoured $500.)

Well I do hope you get what you want. I would have personally re-chosen the Jetstream without another thought especially in view of the price cuts that we have seen for it of late.

We didn't get the price cut in canada, it's still $800 from Rogers. I picked up a used Flyer for $150, which will be a nice stop- gap until the Galaxy Note 10.1 or htc's rumoured jelly bean tablet comes out.

Leaving HTC Flyer For Galaxy Note 8.0

The HTC Flyer is a good device but I desire something that is newer, has better performance and something with better support whether that support be from the community or the company. I tried out the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 in several stores and I really liked it and reviews seem overall very positive. When the price of the Galaxy Note 8.0 comes down to about 300 dollars (or possibly less) I will purchase one and use it as my daily driver.
That is definately my next device as well, I'm also waiting on that price drop closer to 250.
Won't sell the flyer though, my daughter loves playing with the pen so that will all go to her once I get the note 8.0

This is the move I already made. My kids had pretty much claimed the Flyer as theirs anyway and still use it daily to play games and draw with. Also, the speed of the Flyer was on my last nerve so when the price dropped below $300 I jumped.
I managed to snag a Note 10.1 in near mint cond for only $200 but I still miss my 7" Evo View.

Should i buy the nexus 10?

So. I am in the market to buy a new tablet. I generally use a tablet for watching movies, some games and browsing the net. I ran across a brand new unopened nexus 10 32 GB on Craigslist. Got them to sell it for 275.
Question is..... Should I get the nexus 10 seeing lollipop is coming. Or should I splurge and get the tab s 10.5?
Any insight would be appreciated.
Thank you.
Well, i not going to talk about the price factor because i dont know your country. In my opinion, the 10 still remains a solid experience, excellent for movies, very good for browsing the web. I'm not a huge player, but it has run everything that ive throw him. I've high hopes in battery and more smotheness with lollipop, something that might arrive today. 2 years after i bought it, still remains a solid experience. In my opinion, go for it. Hope ive helped.
joao
Thanks for the reply. What are your experiences with battty life and charging times?
I live in the united States. So $275 I think is fair.
Any other thoughts.
Again, thank you guys/gals.
Keeping mine, still a good tablet for me. I'm running/testing 5.0 (lollipop) right now. Runs good, especially for a pre-release ROM.
Just my two cents worth.
JuggZaPoppiN, i'm not stock. I'm rooted, running Purity Rom, a very light and fast rom. My screen time is about 10.30, i think, but keep in mind that i dont keep it charging during the night. The charging time is long, without the pogo charger, around 5 hours. I'm from Portugal, and over here, 275 usd (a litle more than 200 euros) is a very competitive price.
I was thinking buying the nexus 9, but for me, its dificult to justify those purchase. And if you are into movies, the aspect ratio of the 9 will be a major disavantage (Black bars).
For cases, i've tried several, but i prefer the veo one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Black-Ultra-Smart-Google-Generation/dp/B00AAV7124 In reality, the nexus is not the pretiest tablet in the market by no means, but its very very ergonomic naked, with the round soft back.

How's everyone's battery life
Considering that Lollipop should be released anyday now, if I were you, I'd hold my purchase decision until feedback from Nexus 10 users starts coming in (the official OTA I mean... not the pre-releases floating around right now).
IF Lollipop is as good as promised, then a Nexus 10 is still a good choice (it's supposed to be better on the battery and lighter OS optimized for older devices). It should give it almost a new life.
However, the last updates (4.3 and 4.4) were far from optimal on the N10 so who knows what it will be this time.
But if you need to make the decision right now and your needs are not too demanding, it's still a great device. I use it daily and still enjoy it (but then, I rarely play games on it).
Now you can buy it. Lollipop is running smoth for me, and it has a new life.
I also cannot opine about the price ranges in your country, but for what is worth, after a few days running stock Android 5, I can tell you the tablet is running smooth and I certainly could not justify purchasing another one for the time being. So, if the price is right, I believe it is still a good buy.
Thanks guys. I ended up buying it brand new for $275 and I don't regret it one bit. Tablet is extremely smooth and I love lollipop so far. Thanks for all the replies
Good to ear that!
So...how is your nexus?
With Lollipop, this Nexus 10 is reborn, insane good battery life!
