[APP] Google HC Calendar 3.2.2 - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Themes and Apps

Hey all.
Some of us using custom roms have been looking for and asking about the HC google calendar, as it has a better appeal to some of us. I extracted the .apk from a xoom rom and all works great. So i figured I'd post it here for anyone else who wanted it.
All you need to do is place the .apk in system/app/ folder. (I used root explorer to paste it there.) Dont click install since it wont work, just reboot and it will show up in your app drawer. I renamed the old calendar to calendar.bak so its still there if i ever want it back. Hope you all enjoy.

I renamed it Calendar.apk

worked fine for me on task 5.2
Saw the app after reboot, opens and edit calendar entries. Although the Cal widget FCs.
Did change the name to only Calendar.apk, but did not even touch the permissions.
Thanks for sharing - hope we can get the widget to work.

works for me. i didnt rename it. i thought i needed too but apparently it works fine just as it is. but i did change the permission to rw- r-- r to match the original permission.
personally i prefer the monthly view from the TW version. but the weekly and daily view from the HC version.

works great for me... thanks
does anyone know the way to let my tasks show up on the calendar. it just show up the events

I didnt rename it or change permissions. All i did was in Root Explorer i made sure i was in r/w mode.
Not sure about tasks dont have the tab near me so can check. I use a task program called Tasks N Todos it syncs with google and works like a charm. I can even do recurring tasks and create folders.
The widget from the TW calendar stays but doesnt work. I wish i knew how to remove it, bugs me having in my list. There are widget apps for calendars, but i dont must have a widget anyways.
I considered a screen shot but realized i have too many private stuff in my calendar. If someone would care to make on and ill add it to the OP.
Glad its working for everyone didnt think it would be this much in demand.

Hey medic97 - which rom did you rip this file from? I think calendarprovider.apk needs to be replaced as well to fix the fc's.

This seems to be lacking the List (agenda) view my prior Calender.apk had that I found very handy. I have been running Task ROMs.
Edit: Calender.apk with List view option shows About: 3.2-UEKMM. I restored back to it and will keep it as I like that 'List' list.

Gmail mod request

I want to know if its possible to create a modified gmail that will automatically download pictures in email without having to click show pictures each time?
Get Launcher pro plus....the gmail widget does that very thing...plus the launcher itself is kickass...worth the few bucks
I have that app is great but I hate the fact the widget eats up battery the way it does
I use it and using one of the 1.5ghz kernals I'm getting about 9hours out of it....I just bought a charger and set of batteries off eBay and keep it at work and swap halfway through the day...works awesome for me...

I know there was a moddified gmail for the Incredible that had this built in. I loved it, but for some reason it wasn't as popular as I thought it would be and it wasn't included in many ROMs. I'd love for someone to mod it for our bolts, though. I don't use the gmail widget for LP+ so it's really no help to me

FYI, the reason for not showing pictures automatically in emails is that images in email are often hosted elsewhere, and spammers can detect when you download images in their emails and they then know that your email address is actually being used. So it's an anti-spam measure.
There's an apk for this in the Android Apps and Games forum up top. A quick search in that forum should find it.

Ok, just did it and works perfectly.
got the black themed apk here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11798123&postcount=217
and did the following
deleted gmail.apk in system/app using root explorer, (tap r/o to change to r/w if cannot delete)
copied gmail.apk from SDcard, pasted into system/app
Long tap onto gmail.apk in root explorer, tap on permissions and checked all unchecked permissions.
Rebooted and everything worked, and the black gmail is really nice
edit: Be sure to rename the APK you are using to gmail.apk

Blue Themed Gmail Apk!

Here are are some blue themed Gmail apk's that I made for the xoom and definitely work on the Samsung Google IO tab 10.1. You must delete your gmail apk first (I recommend copy to another location) then side load any of these with something like drop box or push via ADB. Let me know if you have any problems.
If you like hit the thanks button please!
Enjoy!

Well, phooey!
Changed the perms to all combinations that I thought would work. Still no luck.
What should they be? Just like the original gmail app, yes?
Also, flashed Tasks 650 & Phantom's "In Paris" KME. Still, no luv.
Any other suggestions?
Much appreciated!
Edit: Error = "Application not installed" during install.
Edit II: rebooted. Now, back to FC of "Gmail process.com.google.android.gm"... hmmm..
Edit III: Wipe app data fixed it. Duh.
Now, if I could get the background of the individual mails to be blue type on dark BG....anybody know of any gmail apps that do that? I'd be glad to kick some $ your way if you are the dev!

Nice mod, gonna go try it out

Really liking the ROM so far. Just one thing while removing the "Samsung Bloatware" I wish there was a way to re-install these as I really like the stock samsung email app. In my opinion it is far superior to the Gmail app as it allows you to pinch and zoom the email.
Does anyone know if there is a place to install this???
Thanks a lot!
In the Cognition thread, there is all the info you need. The link to all removed apps was provided, and you can just download and install what you need. I've included the info below for your reference. Note you need to copy the apk's to /system/app via Root Explorer or similar...you can't install them as normal apk's or they won't work. Just move them to the right place and reboot the phone.
Removed Apps:
(copy apk's /system/app, don't try to install them normally, it won't work)

Awesome, I don't know how I missed this. I re-installed the digital clock! I still don't know what file to add to system/app for the email app to function properly since it says I need to register social hub. So using common sense, I installed the social hub apk but still the same cycle I mentioned earlier. Also does anyone know what the news and weather apk is called??? Thanks again! Happy Independance Day to my neighbours to the south!

Usually DG has his own app in the ROM and on the device that allows you to check off and download which Samsung Apps you want. Its a nice feature. Sort of like an onboard Kitchen.

Email apk *to replace the system APK *Stock gingerbread

I got the email apk from gingerbread up and running on the nook tablet *will update with screenshot. I figured I would try and it worked so no more *****ing about the stock email app being crap. You can now fix it.
How to install:
Download here
Push to SDcard
Move to system/app using root explorer *or free alternative.
change permissions to:
Code:
Read, Write
Read
Read
^ Just like that.
then reboot
and
Enjoy
Don't forget: Backup your stock email apk, just in case.
Does this replace the B&N app when using their launcher too? I'm getting very upset with it constantly re-downloading all of my email...
You need to reboot for it to take effect btw

I'm having an issue getting this to work. Do you have to push the apk to the sdcard, or can you copy/paste it?
Issues here as well. The app isn't showing up in the list. Reverting for now
I already said you need to reboot for it to show.
Rebooted twice. It would show up as Email or Mail, right? Followed all the instructions, permissions, etc.

I did so. I made sure that I followed your instructions. I'm having similar issues with changing out the keyboard, though that may be more related to the apk I downloaded.
Did you guys put it into system/app?
Yep. I used adb because i was already hooked up and working on stuff. Didn't look at logcat because i was working on a compile config.

Of course. After making the /system partition R/W with Root Explorer. Would have preferred to use my own r/w script for /system, but when I got rid of my Droid I think I deleted all of my Android editing/modifying files.

It worked just fine on my tablet and another persons tablet. Check completely through your app drawer for it it should be called "Email"
Got it up and going fairly effortlessly...
the mistake I was making?
I am using Go Launcher Ex...after reboot I looked at E and M for Email or Mail...well, it wasn't there (even though I was sorting alphabetically)
It turns out, it WAS there in my app drawer...it just went to the very last page of my app drawer and was listed after Widget Locker...obviously NOT in alphabetical order, haha
Maybe you guys were also having this problem?
Yep that was my issue as well. PEBKAC. Sorry for the mixup. Thanks for the app!

I found it exactly as described above.
My main issue was that I was initially trying to launch it using the stock nook home apps screen.

Yeah, exactly the same thing happened with me. Go Launcher doesn't always seem to auto-sort correctly.
Not sure if that's an error or feature of Go Launcher but it doesn't seem to happen all the time. Recently downloaded apps are placed at the end of the app draw. I like it cause I down load so many apps, I forget what I've downloaded.
Lately however, I've noticed that new apps appear in order with a little orange label in the upper right corner of the icon - I think it says new.
Awesome! Thanks, Indirect. This worked perfectly for me.
On a side note, this also fixed an issue with contacts. I was stuck with the abysmal stock contact list manager, because nothing else I installed would allow creation or editing of contacts. With the stock email app is in place, I can now use GO Contacts to create and edit contacts.
BTW: email addys open a new email, street addresses open in Google Maps, and phone numbers open chat in textPlus if you have these installed.
the download link is no longer work. Can you send me a new URL?
Thanks
Please ignore my last post. I found it at your other thread.
Thanks

Any way to remove the new Facebook camera/messenger app?

It now comes installed with Facebook and i don't want another camera icon in my app drawer. I'm using touch wiz so using another launcher is out of the question. I've checked Tibu and it doesn't see it. I'm sure others would find this info useful as well.
Sent from my Samsung Infuse 4G
Sorry don't have an answer, but you're not the only one. I've been trying to find a way to remove the redundant camera and messenger app icons as well.
I've figured the best solution is to reinstall an older version, but then we'll never get any of the newer patches/updates without a solid solution.
Dont use the stock app. Use the app called "fast facebook" it is locally made from here at XDA and makes facebook browsing way better.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.fastfacebook.com&hl=en
I just noticed the new icons and wrote a quick app to remove them. Unfortunately it doesn't work since 3rd-party apps can't get access to "android.permission.CHANGE_COMPONENT_ENABLED_STATE" (which makes sense) and can only disable icons for their own application. Going to see if root helps...
Root did the trick, Facebook Icon Remover. Hope it helps and let me know if you run into any issues.

Could this be extended to other apps with extra icons?
How does the icon removing work? I uninstalled facebook with root explorer from /system/app since I barely use it, deleting every apk I could, now the facebook icon is gone from the launcher but the camera/messenger are still there, and there's no apk named after those. Where should I look in my system folder?

It certainly could. There is a little detective work involved with figuring out the package/component names (they are hard coded in this app) but I am already working on extending this to allow the disabling/hiding of any application icon.

The app is using the 'pm' (package manager) command to disable two components (activities) in the Facebook package. It probably won't work if you've already uninstalled it. The components should be part of the com.facebook.katana-2.apk package (that's how it was named on my devices, both in /data/app/). You could try reinstalling Facebook, using this tool and then uninstalling to see if that removes the icons.

ICS users can simply select the 'Hide applications' from the action bar in the application drawer and then tap the applications to hide. You can then select 'Show hidden applications' from the application bar to un-hide them. I don't have an ICS device on me and only have one day experience with it (just got my Galaxy Tab 2 yesterday) but hope this helps. If not let me know and I can provide more detailed steps tonight.

Nevermind I removed manually the fb.katana from /data/app and its folder in /data/data and everything disappeared. Yay!
The only thing left is in Settings>apps managemente>all, there's still the com.facebook.katana listed even tho I already uninstalled all updates, weighting 0.0B and with the SD card icon. I tried to look for it in the SD directory but I found nothing. It's not a big deal in the end but I'm a perfectionist.
This also happened for Gmail and Google Quicksearch Box, while for Wisepilot after a reboot the broken SD link was gone.

I may have been given incorrect information regarding the "Hide Applications" being a stock option in ICS. Can you try the attached apk and see if it works for you on ICS? If it doesn't work then any logcat output you can send would help me troubleshoot (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.jtb.alogcat if you don't have a way to view/save logcat logs already).
Thanks for the apk. It did work on my HTC One S.

Nice, I'd happily donate for that!
I've tried your original app on my Xperia X10 (2.3) and it's worked as described.
I tried your app on CM 9 on Optimus 2x and I get an error when trying to hide both.
"An error occurred while disabling Camera icon. Verify your device is rooted and try again."
My device is rooted, I even got the Superuser popup asking for permission.
Thanks mcchx0r
