USB drivers for Win7 64-bit failing - HTC Rezound

Has anyone gotten the USB drivers to work on Win7 64-bit? I installed HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe but when I plug in the phone, I get an "other device" in Device Manager. Tried pointing it to the driver file directly in C:\Program Files (x86)\HTC\HTC Driver\Driver Files\Win7_x64 but of course that fails immediately with "Windows could not find driver software for your device."
Just to clarify, I do have USB Debugging enabled and am choosing HTC Sync on the phone.
I downloaded the 149mb HTC Sync and installed it, which comes with v3.0.0.017 drivers as well as HTC BMP USB driver, whatever that is. After installing, plugged in phone, same result.
Obviously, ADB doesn't see the device since the drivers aren't working. Sigh...
I went over to an old XP machine and the drivers work fine there, but I can't use ADB on that PC and I really want it to work on my own machine anyway.
Thanks for any help!

Yep, Windows 7 x64 Pro at home at office, both working fine with that exact version (from HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe).
Maybe a low-powered USB port? Try a simple restart (it's worth a shot -- fixes more weirdness issues with drivers than you'd imagine)? Try it in charge-only mode? (I have never used sync mode)

Wrong forum, this belongs in General. Development is for Roms, RUU's, etc.

Oops, sorry!
BTW, reboots are magical! It installed properly after a reboot, I just really really didn't want to reboot since I had 8 million things open.
Now I just have to figure out how to get it to show up in: adb devices
Thanks and sorry again for posting in the wrong place (I'm a dumb newb)

It works fine for me as well.

I did, admittedly. I love my DROID 3, but after coming from an OG DROID, I miss the openness and was looking for a new device. I'll be getting a Google Nexus when it's released in the US, but until then I decided to play with the HTC Rezound since Verizon is running an extended return window for the holiday season.
I don't expect to keep the Rezound for more than a few weeks. XD

I also have Win7 64 bit. Try rebooting your phone (make sure you UNcheck Fast Boot in Settings/Power BEFORE doing so) and then see if USB Debugging is still checked. I had this issue as well and it appeared that USB Debugging came checked when I got the phone (which I thought was wierd) but unchecked itself upon a full reboot.

My laptop just has issues with the drivers for some reason. It's working on my desktop with Win7 64-bit, so I'm all good. Loving the Rezound so far.

USB Device Not Recognized

Howdy,
I have a 'jasjam' and am presently running WM6 Black. I decided today that I would upgrade to the new HTC ROM but almost every time I connect my phone to the PC here (Win XP) I get 'USB Device Not Recognized' on the occasion it does work, once the phone goes into the boatload when I try to upgrade (Hard SPL) I get 'A device attached to the computer has malfunctioned.' or something along those lines.
Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
Ben.
Bump...
The phone seems to initially recognized (XP installs driver for HTC USB Sync), but after a little while the charge light will turn off and the phone will not be seen. After reconnecting it it becomes an 'Unknown USB device' again.
I'm running Schap's 3.54c.
Hopefully someone's encountered this problem before.
Ben.
Managed to upgrade with SD card, which indicently I felt was rather an improved process over upgrading via USB.
In any case I'm still having no luck getting the USB connection to function even now with the new HTC rom.
I've tried various things including cycling 'advanted networking features' under the USB connection properties (I saw this mentioned in another thread).
Again, any help would be appreciated.
Ben.

I got the same thing with my hermes...i think its a hardware issue. Do you have issues with slow bootup, lost BT etc?
do a system restore on your machine. select the time before you did your last flash. my pc at work does the same thing, system restore usually fixes it.

That's a good idea, that's worked before for me also.
Another option, if you can find the phone under 'Device Manager' on your PC, is to remove it.
And then when you plug your phone back in to your PC it recognizes 'New Hardware' and reinstalls it.
Sometimes that works.
It's happening also for me from time to time.
- A restart of both machines sometimes helps.
- good usb cable is needed (I had a retractable and it was almost never syncing).
- reinstall activesync + delete partenrship on both tel & pc is the last thing you could try...
Still it happens to me sometimes.
PS1: I was almost never able to sync via usb cable when not connected to the Company Lan.
PS2: I found a Mobile Checkpoint VPN client was also "disturbing".

[Q] USB Mass Storage mode DOA...

I've just uncovered a problem with my USB Mass Storage mode since flashing (I THINK...) Gingeritis final 1.0. The problem is, it doesn't work! I plug my USB cable in, choose Disk Drive option, and NOTHING. I've tried mounting my SD card through CW recovery also, to no avail. I've confirmed the USB cable is good, as is the USB port.
My biggest problem now is, no matter what other ROM I flash, it still won't go into Mass Storage mode, which is presenting a huge problem when trying to sideload apps and ROM's...
I've even gone back to stock (rooted) MR1, exactly as my phone was immediately after rooting, and it's still out. I'm trying to avoid having to unroot and go back to square one to see if that fixes it. Anyone know of this issue and, more importantly, a fix for it? Thanks in advance!

Believe it or not, I actually tried that, too. I just found that it does in fact work on my laptop running Linux and Windows Vista... I'd make the suggestion that perhaps it was Windows 7 that was the problem , except that it used to work on that machine, too, before Gingeritis, but now I can't get it to work on the Win7 machine for anything! Go figure....
Thanks for your input though!

Galaxy s2 I777 Does not connect in USB Mass Storage mode.

Hello everyone,
I am a new user of galaxy s2 i777. I have been trying to connect the phone in usb mass storage mode.
I have gone through a lot of threads in this forum, none of them give a clear idea as to what to do.
some say install kies some say something else... I have tried many things. all of them dont seem to work.
Can anyone please guide me in a clear cut was as to what to do?
Thanks guys.
Out of the box, by the default, when plugging, usb icon will and should be displayed on the notification; pull the notification down then tap to connect the usb mass storage mode. Your PC should recognize it now.
Note: try more than one usb port.
Go to settings->wireless and network->usb utilities follow instructions
I ran into that problem after using one my sisters chargers when i was visiting my parents house. Apparently the usb cable bent the connector in my phones port. I ended up bending it back and it has worked like a charm since then
Or enable USB DEBUGGING option. If you do that as soon as you plug into any computer, the option to transfer files will automatically show in your notification/status bar.

To clarify:
The Galaxy S II defaults to MTP mode (media mode, similar to iPhone).
Unlike said iPhone however, we can change ours back to the UMS (USB Mass Storage) mode by enabling USB debugging.
I never found it documented anywhere, I just ran into by accident when enabling USB debugging for TB and MTP stopped working.
It took me a while to figure out why.
I actually like MTP mode (it's faster and easier to use, except in linux as I understand).
The "USB Utilities" option seems to be a per-use setting (not 100% sure, never used it). However USB debugging is a "set and forget" option.
Use steps I quoted above to enable it.
After that when you plug it in, you can select to mount it to the PC via the notification bar.
Hope that helps.
EDIT: It looks like this option was posted by at least one other person on here before: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20204599&postcount=12
Tried everything
Guys,
I have enabled USB debugging mode as you have recommended and and it still does not work. I am always getting the notification on windows as "USB device not recognized".
I have tried everything. i have installed the USB driver for I777 from the samsung website. That did not work.
Another strange thing. I tried "Wireless and Network>USB utilities>Connect storage to PC" on my FRIENDS computers(Windows 7), it works.! My phone connects in mass storage mode and I am able to transfer files as usual. I did not install any software on my friends computers.
But when i do the same thing on my WINDOWS 7 PC, it does not work. I use a Lenovo T420i with factory software installed.
I am a noob in the drivers department. Can anyone please tell me what to do.
Thank you.
Help appreciated.
you say "new user" which implies stock rom. if what they are asking you to do is not working, then i believe you might need to exchange the phone. if you have an ICS rom on it, then i think that you might be stuck with MTP until you switch back to Gingerbread. i might be wrong.
Is Anti-virus disabled on your computer? Seems I've heard that it should be, but can't find where... Also, there may be different drivers for a 64-bit machine (W7?) vs. 32-bit.
Have u tried a different USB port or cable on your PC?

Firstly, it's how amazing you are. You asked a question and only returns to it TWO months after? Obviously, it doesn't bother you that much.
Secondly, however, we're here to help.
About your friend computer, a. maybe he did install the Samsung USB driver already or b. maybe, at that time, you are using MTP mode.
Anyway, forget about his computer, let's get it work on yours.
I personally think the USB driver that you've downloaded from their website WOULD NOT work. I don't know why but I can tell you that it did not work for me. Give me some times to dig into my files or search again on this site for the CORRECT driver. You can also help me and yourself by continue to search for this on this xda site since I got it from here too.
Thirdly, along side with the 2nd above, do try different usb cables, do try on different usb ports
I can enable the USB mode on my note, but when browsing the phone with my computer (Mac & PC) I can not see the contents of the SD card?
EDIT: nevermind, rebooted phone and is working now.

First of all I appreciate the help you are giving me.
I am sorry if I offended you by not returning for quite a long time to post.
I have now resolved the problem and would like to share for everyone's benefit over here.
The problem was not with the software, it was with the hardware. I followed all the suggestions given over here and was in the end convinced that there should be a problem with my motherboard. This is surprising because my Flash Drive and USB mouse all work with my laptop without any glitches. But my phone(i777) and any other android phone would not connect to the computer. It would say device not recognized.
My nook e-reader which used to work perfectly started acting strange, it would be detected but i would not be able to transfer files onto the nook. So now I ws convinced that this was a hardware problem.
So I called up lenovo and showed them this problem via some software where i could share my screen with them. They asked me if a USB flash drive was working and I said yes. They reply saying that everything is perfect with your laptop and cut the call. I was offended , these lenovo support guys would not understand that it was a complex problem.
So I went to a local MicroCentre which had support for lenovo servicing and showed this problem to a technician. He was convinced that there was some problem and got my motherboard replaced . And voila there connects my android to my computer in USB mode..!
I would like to thank everyone for their help and taking time out to post here.
My laptop: Lenovo T420i with i3. looks like this was a case with my laptop only. a person i know has a t420(i5) in which my phone connected without any glitches.
Thank you for your help everyone. Hope to be helpful in return in the near future.

Extremely stupid question I'm sure...

Just got my dna... Never had issues with just connecting it to the computer and being able to access the storage. I can't seem to drag and drop onto this phone. Do I need htc sync installed for that to work? Can't start root process until I figure it out. Thanks.
Nothing is stupid but reading helps
Yes you need htc sync or android MTP drivers installed then it will show up as a drive when connected
Ya the MTP install keeps failing. Just Google for those drivers?
I installed the HTC drivers found in the all in one kit thread, but still failing...
I'll try htc sync. Sorry... Long day and annoyed haha
Maybe its write protected? I have issue when i want to drop files on sd but it didnt work and i jusj realzed that the paste and delete command is missing.
Or just turn off the mtp mode. Cmiiw
Sent from my WT19i using xda app-developers app
I'm trying to just copy over a simple text file... Only thing that shows up looks like a camera. Opened it to see my folders on internal memory. But won't let me drag over. Now doesn't show up at all. Installed sync, no luck. MTP just fails installing.
I am having zero luck...
Could it be something that I have on the computer from previous HTC phones? I've had the Inc, TB and Rez...
MTP fails every time... Can't just access storage. Installed HTC drivers from all in one root thread, installed sync... Nothing. I'm confused...
FWIW I am turning debugging off, yet as soon as I plug it in to the computer it's turning on automatically...
I've checked in cmd "adb devices" and its showing the device there.
Just checked and my rezound still connects no problem... No luck with DNA
Here is where I'm at with it...
On a separate computer, I had no issues getting everything the computer to recognize the phone and allow me to drag and drop onto it.
On the computer with issues (mine), I have all drivers installed. I can give the phone ADB commands and they work. I can reboot into bootloader and all that jazz. What I can't do tho is just access the storage. When I plug it in my computer is recognizing it as a camera. A prompt for scanner and camera wizard will pop up and if I go into My Computer it shows the phone, with a camera as the icon. I can double click it, and see all the folders and files that are on the phone. If I try to drag and drop a picture, music file or even a text file, the mouse icon changes to a circle with a line through it (no smoking sign type thing).
Only other issue with plugging it in is the MTP install keeps failing. Is that an SDK related issue? I may have an older SDK, but I think it is at least ICS related. Or is it something else altogether. The error states something is missing from the INF file or wrong with the INF file. Can't remember exactly.
I got the phone rooted and what not, I'm just trying to be able to put a few music and picture files on it at this point.
Any help I would greatly appreciate. Thank you.
This is a long shot but what USB cable are you using? Is it OEM or just one laying around? Did you try another cable?
You need to go at the MTP install failure from a Windows troubleshooting perspective instead of the HTC or android perspective.
I had this problem for a long time on my computer which was a VERY nice rig besides that issue. So finally when I got a device that needed MTP, I spent about 15 minutes on Google, made some changes in device manager and the registry, and fixed the problem completely.

Phone constantly gets disconnected (USB) from laptop (Windows 8.1)

I just got a brand new Dell XPS 15" and whenever i plug my M8 (Root, Venom ROM), it keeps disconnecting from the pc as if someone is pressing a button to connect/disconnect. The windows file explorer shows the device and then the device is gone, it shows and then gone ...
I tried testing the USB ports and plugged in an external HDD and i was able to copy 159G of data without any interruption.
I have installed Google USB Drivers and then HTC Drivers (via HTC Sync Manager) and still no success.
Any idea ?

Check windows device drivers when phone is plugged in and make sure no items show up as nonworking related to HTC phone (yellow exclamation points). Make sure that in the HTC notification bar, after its been plugged in that you have an option to "authorize" HTC phone to communicate with computer. Check you USB connection mode on HTC device while plugged into computer - try toggling the setting back and forth. Lastly uninstall HTC drivers while plugged in to computer and reboot computer and let it install drivers.
Hopefully, following those steps in order, at one point you have have a successful connection.
If it still fails definetly try a different cable. Not all cables are the same, what works for one device, especially an older cable may not have the proper wiring for the HTC one - suggest using the cable that comes with the HTC one, if available.

Same problem with my m8.
not a pc problem.. Tried on various laptops.. Other phones connect through the same usb cable without any problem.
so definitely a problem in phone.
btw mine is m8 stock rooted!
I'm not sure how the problem is "definitely" a M8 phone problem with the data points you supplied. One thing I see is the mention of same USB cable works with other phones - but as previously pointed out in this thread, not all cables are the same, and what works on one phone, may not work on another

It is not a phone problem. This has been talked about over and over in the forums. It is a Win 8 problem. Everything works fine if you use a Win 7 machine, or as I have found out the Win 10 Tech Preview works too. I have a spare laptop here with that installed and guess what, no problems. The main machine I am using now is Win 8.1 and I can't do jack with HTC. Other phones are fine, but this one always is a problem so I use the spare laptop.
Many of the issues on win 8.x boils down to Microsoft's own USB 3.0 drivers that are installed as compared to Intel's drivers. I've replaced my ms drivers with Intel drivers for my chip set a year ago and never had a problem on my USB 3.0 only laptop since that time. Newer chipsets don't have this problem and the chipsets that do are difficult to install - but worth it if you do a lot of phone/adb tinkering like us folks here on XDA.

Is your computer USB 3.0 only? If so is it an Intel chipset for USB drivers? You can check in device manager. If Intel USB chipset are the drivers provided by Intel or Microsoft (look at properties for the drivers to tell).
Also did u follow my suggestions from a month or so ago?

Hey @tommy_riley, i tried whatever you suggested.
1. The device manager does show a usb android phone with exclamation sign. But it disapears right away (since the phone constantly switch and disconnect). See attached screen shot
2. I don't see any "authroize" option in htc notification bar neither i could change the htc usb mode option. I don't know where that option is in HTC One M8. Tried searching but didn't help
3. I don't have HTC Drivers installed since i just did pc-restore. so its a fresh copy of windows.
Looks like you need the HTC drivers for your phone if they are not installing automatically but could be other things.
Now that PC is restored, I'd suggest installing HTC sync manager while device is unplugged and plug it in if I prompted during install. If it installs the proper drivers you should get a prompt on your phone to authorize communication.
Make sure you are logged in as administrator when installing HTC sync manager and maybe even install it with right click>run as administrator.

btw, I am not the only one who is having this issue

Tried each option one by one. Every option stated that the connection has been changed to the said setting but the device connectivity with the PC remained the same.
However, when i tried "Internet Pass Through" option, I got the error that either the sync manager is out-of-date or pc is already using something else.
There is one more thing I want to let you guys know that I am using ViperM8 ROM and my phone is rooted.
Edit:
From the link i posted above, I tried two more things
1. Changed the virtual memory. The problem still persists
2. Changed the USB debug from my laptop's BIOS ... The problem still persists

Not sure about laptop USB debug, but what about the debug option in your phone? Is that turned on? If not, do it (instructions are around here on how to unlock developer mode, I can't locate at the moment - tap build number several times I believe).
Also, might want to try these drivers instead, see if they make a difference:
"Universal ADB driver" - i'm not sure if the download link at the following URL is totally legit, so take a look around just to be sure.

While phone is plugged in, uninstall the HTC drivers from computer device manager, then install the drivers in the link above.
Got nothing to loose at this point so...
I run Stock ROM so I'm not sure about computer connection issues with viper (if any) so I may be out of options for you after that.
