RCA TV out to In Dash DVD player? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Im thinking about getting an in-dash radio/dvd player. Most of these has standard rca video inputs. Would it be possible to connect the Galaxy S2 to one of these connections and mirror the screen on the dash? Would be great for navigation.

There are hdmi to rca cables out there. But no guarantee they will work with your setup as the cable itself is taking a digital signal and translating it to analog. It will depend on if the radio will be able to understand it.
You'll need the mhl adapter (make sure it's working before trying as some have had issues with them, depending on where they bought it) a micro usb power cord, and hdmi to rca cable.
There are converter boxes that will guaranteed convert digital to analog, but they can cost a bit.
Unfortunately, I believe the tv out to rca from the headphone jack was discontinued after the Captivate. That would have been a cheap and easy solution.

[Q] Connecting the atrix through DVI cables

I'm about to get an atrix 4g and I was wondering if there was an adapter which would allow an hdmi cable to hook into a DVI input? I wanted to use a spare monitor as a webtop display but it doesnt have any HDMI input. Would this adapter still allow the webtop to work? And does anyone know a good, cheap one?
HDMI and DVI use the same video signal, so you can use one of the cheap DVI(male)>HDMI(female) adapters that come with graphics cards and things.
You won't get any audio, though.

I have some pretty nice speakers, will audio still work through the 3.5 audio Jack on the phone?

I use a Startech HDMI (Female) to DVI-D (Male) 24-pin adapter and it works very well with PC monitors.

How to connect S2 to the TV set without HDMI?

Hi guys,
I ve got a HDMI adaptor and cable for my S2 and it is working fine on the TV with HDMI, just wondering if I can connect S2 to the telly without HDMI socket?
There is no cable for that. Or use an HDMI cable with a DVI converter on top of it?
Google for HDMI to composite. There's loads of cheap leads to do this.

I am also trying to find how to cheaply connect S2 to a crt tv with either scart or composite RCA - does't look possible without high cost below taken from a web site but not allowed to post link as I'm a new user!:
HDMI To Composite Cable is sought by many people nowadays. People who have old technology equipments try to connect them with brand new HDMI-ready devices. Most old devices are using either composite cable, analog cable, or S-Video cable.
HDMI To Composite CableSome people think that they are able to convert the digital signal from HDMI end to several analog signals in the other end. The truth is, while you clearly can connect wire-to-wire, which simply won’t work. There is no possible solution to convert digital to analog signal without using a converter box. When you see HDMI To Composite Cable sellers claim to be able to convert the digital to analog signal directly without a converter box, they mostly scam and don’t work.
So, is it possible to convert the digital signal to analog signal? The answer is yes, but you can’t use a simple HDMI To Composite Cable. You need a converter box. It will do the conversion from digital to analog without a breeze. You may find them on the market labeled as HDMI To Composite Converter, HDMI To S-Video Converter, HDMI To 3 RCA Converter, HDMI To 5 RCA Converter, HDMI To Composite 3 RCA / S-Video Converter Adapter, but simply not as HDMI To Composite Cable only.
hdmi uses digital signal, so you can use a DVI adaptor but that's it.. (or digital component but that's ultra rare)
to use analogue (scart, composite, component, s-video) you'll need a digital-to-analogue converter box and they cost around £30 from ebay.. you're better off putting that money towards a new LCD with hdmi

Possible to output analog signal over HDMI? For heads up display

Hi all,
I'm constructing a heads up display using a pair of MyVu Crystals I have laying around. My problem is that I've only got an iPod connector cable and a standard RCA red, white, and yellow connector. There are HDMI to RCA cables on ebay but in order to use them without a converter, the signal over the HDMI port has to be analog.
Before I buy one, can anyone tell me if the HDMI port on the Photon is capable of outputting such a signal?
Many thanks!

HDMI to RCA cable will not work. I have tried it. I have also tried 3.5mm to RCA. My phone didnt like that and kept pulling up voice command. No display or sound at all on the tv I was trying to use.
Motorola sells an adapter (Motorla VGA Adapter $49.99) for the photon that plugs into the usb port and hdmi port simultaneously and it is says it converts HDMI to VGA to allow connection to projectors and older tv's. VGA is analog and the adapter requires no other power source. Should work if you went: MyVu>Ipod Cable>RCA TO VGA>MOTOROLA VGA ADAPTER>PHOTON.
Brilliant, I'll check that out and post the results later!
Many thanks.
I've also found this:

Think that might work? It's a fair bit cheaper than Moto's option. I just wonder about power as presumably that's what the usb port on the moto adaptor is for. On second thought, the Moto adaptor launches webtop which is likely what the USB is for. I'm thinking this HDMI one could work then? All I'm after is mirroring (largely for GPS nav).

Wow, awesome find! Only problem I can see is that you will need an micro hdmi to hdmi for it to fit the photon. You cant plug in the adapter and the access the usb port without muscling it. Might loosen up the sockets and thats no good. This one is better:
cant post link just search micro hdmi male to vga and youll find one same price range
Already has a micro hdmi end , no power supply required either. I am going to purchase this and try it out, I want to mirror my display on my 7 inch car stereo. Torque, netflix & Google navigation is going to look sick. There is no sound from this but you can run 3.5mm jack out.
Good one, didn't think to look for a micro ended one as I've already got an adaptor. I may go that way as well.
I'll make sure to pop a post up with my badass GPS driving microdisplay.
Ok, I ordered mine last night... sucks its coming from Hong Kong but Ill post up a video once I get it installed!
got the adapter.. hooked it up to a vga to rca out cable and plugged into an analog tv and got a flicker every now and then but no picture. Connected it to the Analog input on my LG 55inch LED and I get a scrolling picture in black and white only. Will try a couple different cables, the rca cable on the adapter looks like it might also take a 3.5mm jack also has a svideo out, havent tried to hook up to car yet but will and will report back.

Got my micro HDMI to VGA adaptor from Hong Kong today. Works perfectly!
I'm still waiting on the VGA to S-Video/RCA so will report back.
Maybe you've got a problem with an unsupported resolution? RCA can only go up to 640x480 right? Is there any way we can force the mirroring resolution to go lower?
Yes, Mirror resolution.apk and some modding. Look in Hybrid rom thread, there is link for that.
Thanks mate.
I'll give it a go and report back. I got my VGA to RCA converter and like the other poster have no picture. Will report back after using the resolution fix.
Cheers.

MHL to analog audio adapter

Does anyone have any experience with a MHL adapter that will charge your phone and also provide analog audio? I would like to make my own car dock with one.
The "iKross MHL micro-USB to VGA Display and Stereo Audio Adapter" on amazon is pretty much what I need, but am unsure if it will work with the EVO LTE.
It's really unfortunate Sprint/HTC opted to get rid of the charging/audio pins on the back of the ONE X when designing the EVO.
you can still use the 3.5mm headphone jack as an audio out even with the MHL streaming out via HDMI. It tried it with my headset and my monitor. Works great

I've been looking for a similar solution. I'd wager that the adapter you mentioned is compatible. MHL is a standard and I'd very be surprised if the GNexus (as listed on the product page) worked, but the EvoLTE didn't.
I have an aux jack and charging port in my glove box, and for years I've just been using both USB and audio cables which dangle out of the box. I don't think I need a car dock (my car already has GPS), but just having one less cable (like those old iPod car adapters which split out analog audio) will be quite nice.
If you're nervous about buying it, I expect I'll pull the trigger on this in the next week or so, and I can report back.
I'd like to find a black or gray version, though. White cables are garish.
Exactly. I never bother with my phone because of all the wires being a hassle. Just looking for a more elegant/convenient solution I can just set my phone in. Might try to hack the MHL adapter and HTC car dock together, though I wish the car dock wasn't so unnecessarily bulky.
Just picked up the belkin Bluetooth today and hooked it to RCA inputs. Got an app that connects Bluetooth when the power cable is connected and turns it of when its not.works great So far. So now I'm down to just power cable .

has anyone tried this yet? I'd be interested in its compatibility with the car dock as well as how the quality is. With the car dock and the headphone jack I'm getting lots of feedback and static.
I've order the iKross MHL adapter and the parts necessary to assemble the custom cable. I will report back if the iKross adapter works. If it does work, I may not assemble the custom cable. If the iKross adapter does not work, I will assemble the custom cable and post results.
The iKross MHL adapter came in today, and it does work on the Evo 4G LTE. However, the sound is so terrible that I cannot recommend it to anyone for this application, and I will be sending the adapter back. It seems to only pass low frequencies to the 3.5mm jack, so much of the audio signal is lost. The audio is very low quality compared to the built-in 3.5mm jack. I will be trying the custom cable now, once I get all of the parts I need.

question about HDCP

I would like to hook up my note 2 to my car stereo's video screen somehow. The stereo has RCA inputs on the back, so I bought an HDMI to RCA converter box as well as an allshare cast. I didn't even think about hdcp or anything like that, but when I try to plug the allshare into my converter box, the box doesn't receive a signal. I'm guessing this is because of HDCP. Is there any way I can get my Note 2 to output over RCA, even if it takes a series of cables/boxes? I'm guessing MHL won't work for the same reason
It would be easier to just take everything that's on there transferred to a USB dongle and plug the usb dongle into your stereo

Yeah, I was hoping to use it for navigation so I could see it on my stereo's screen instead of having to look at the phone but I'm coming to understand that this is more or less impossible
Do you want audio only or video also? EDITED: Just saw your post above.
There are a few converters that do HDMI/miniHDMI -> Composite w/HDCP but they are active adapters that you will need an inverter for either 5V or 9V to it and a few other misc adapters to make it work right. It would likely be cheaper and faster to just buy a suction cup mount for the Note II and a 3.5mm to RCA LEFT/RIGHT break out cable. lol
