tmo galaxy tab 10.1 sd? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

does anyone know if the TMO version of the galaxy tab 10.1 has a slot for additional storage? i would like to buy one but this is the deciding factor and i don't see it in any of the specs.

Sadly it doesn't. Apparently Samsung sells an accessory that you can plug in to access an SD card externally.

USB adapter works fine and if out of some reason you don't like it, you could always use GoFlex Satellite Mobile Wireless Storage with 500 GB. It's a little pricey, but gives you practically complete freedom. I know many swear by cloud, but if you are living like me in a country where WiFi enabled areas are still not common and 3G is outrageously priced it's an excellent solution.

[Q] Dual-sim adapter and micro-SIM

I figured this topic is a question, therefore I did not post it in the accessories forum.
I was wondering if it is possible to use a dual sim adapter for the Galaxy S3. For the S2, I have a no cut adapter, which fits under the battery cover without a problem.
Since the S3 is using micro sim, this becomes more complicated. A cut adapter is impossible. A no cut adapter would possible. There are some multi sim adapters for the iPhone 4s. Does anyone have one and could tell me if it is possible to use with the Galaxy S3?
The adapter would also allow to use standard size sim. I don't know how thick the adapters are, perhaps they also fit under the battery cover. It is a shame that the S3 uses micro-SIM with the size of a 4.8" phone, even the slot is exceptionally big, I suspect it was changed later just so people can plop in their SIM cards from their iPhones.
Id be interested in this if you could find one that fit under the cover.
Here is an adapter.
http://www.g-telware.de/dual-sim-adapter/gdsgs3-dual-sim-adapter-karte-samsung-galaxy-s3.html
Any idea if the dual adapters made for iPhone 4 would work? because I've seen them for $5.
I think the iph4 adapters will work also.
bigger question is will they fit under the back cover of the s3!?
can anybody tell me if there is 1mm room between the back cover and the battery? (or if the back cover can be snapped back in with a small "lump" because of the extra sim)
The back cover's very flexible so it should fit no problem, and I ordered an iPhone dual adapter for $5.40 last week so i'll give that a try when it turns up.

I've tried 2 different brands of iPhone 4 adapters on my s3 and it doesn't work at all. I've had a few adapters over the years from www.magic-sim.com who have been great but they don't seem to have an adapter for the s3 available right now. I'll email them and ask why.

[Q] micro USB to HDMI/MHL Adapter not working !

All,
Just bought a adapter cable (Micro-USB to HDMI/MHL adapter) from Ebay that is compatible with the Samsung galaxy S3. It states you can watch pictures or video from the phone to your TV in HD.
However, it simply doesn't work, is there something I need to setup on my phone (like the old TV Out) ???
Thanks for any advice received.

You probably got yourself one of the many fakes that claim to be S3 compatible but really just the old type MHL cable.
No you shouldn't have to do anything. Seems to be a bit of confusion among retailers though as to which cable is for s3. Is it generic? Do you have a product no.?
Here is the link
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ADAPTER-C...=324333572946690179&pid=100011&prg=1005&rk=4&
Here is the information
Cable from micro-USB-connector to HDMI
enables the connection from HD-capable smartphones on the HDMI port of a HD-TV
compatible HD 1080p
view pictures or videos from your mobile phone on the TV in Full-HD
No power supply necessary, the phone can be charged at the same time through the Micro-USB jack on the adapter
Compatible with:
Samsung Galaxy SII S2 i9100 / Samsung Galaxy Note N7000
Samsung Galaxy i997
Samsung Galaxy Nexus i9250 / i9520
Samsung Galaxy S3 / GT-i9300
HTC Sensation XL / G14
HTC Flyer
HTC Evo 3D
Samsung EIA2UHUN
HTC AC M490
Sony Ericsson Xpera Arc / X12 / Xperia S / Xperia Neo V
If it's compatible with s2 it's not compatible with s3. Seller has either advertised incorrectly on purpose or by mistake. Best contact them to seek a refund then you will see which it is.

Yup, I can also confirm. There was an article on Engadget about Samsung rearranging the pin arrangement of the port.

Wow, that's not fair. It is Samsung that is selling fake MHL accessories.
That vendor was selling a real MHL accessory, compatible with the > 100 real MHL devices already in market. Sammie gave no warning or explanation, and advertised that the SGS3 supported MHL, so many vendors had no way to know that their MHL cables wouldn't work with the SGS3.
Now those vendors have to give people money back and take a loss, when all they were doing is selling authentic MHL stuff.

Sorry but I am being fair because I've seen dozens of cables claiming to be S3 compatible and some that say they made specifically for the S3 alone, I mean I just got caught out by one because 11 days after getting dispatch confirmation I emailed the seller and they said they just found out it isn't compatible and offered a refund, so it looks like they knew it was fake from the beginning and didn't send it but still charged me and confirmed it was sent, and I think everyone can agree this item is definitely trying to claim to work on S3 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Adapter-GT-...7TNA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1341253133&sr=8-2

MHL is a closed-documentation commercial proposed specification.
With drafts, changes are rather the norm than the exception. There were reports of the old pin-layout causing issues being the reason for the switching of pins.
But anyway, Samsung is one of the main developer in the consortium so they can change specifications.
Noone said MHL had to be backwards-compatible between revisions.
It's the seller's fault for ASSUMING that there would be no changes and marking the cable as compatible without even attempting to try.
Additionally they could've been notified of this change several months prior release of the S3 if they had bought access to the MHL specification which is restricted but still available and most surely includes iformations about the reason and details of the included changes.

SGP612 vs SGP611

What is the difference between the two of them?
I can buy the 612 from Sony Store Canada for about $530 + tax ($63) or get a 611 on eBay from Japan for $515 + duties (maybe like $40).
The seller seems quite reputable so I can probably save a few bucks on eBay.

I have the 612 and 32gb is how standard memory storage should be today because there's just more and more files to carry everyday. Plus I got it for a great deal for only $300 from eBay and it was lightly used/seems like new.
My question is, can o still do the same root stuff and the 611. I want to make a backup of all the DRM and keys and stuff just to root it, not unlock bootloader. Rooting it and upgraded to lollipop would be best case scenario. Can I get help with that?
Rooting etc should be exactly the same if the only difference is storage space (for wifi vs LTE versions, your mileage may vary).
Plenty good threads on here regarding rooting, check them out.

Anyone using this in the USA?

Hey all,
Really interested in getting one of these to replace my Mediapad X2. Can anyone tell me how it performs on U.S.A. GSM networks like T-Mo and ATT? Are you getting consistent 4G LTE? Will this handle the upcoming 5G bands? Can the phone portion be operated with and without the speaker enabled? Much obliged!!
Steve
right now got answer by US Huawei chat guy: "might be launched in a couple of months in the USA market".
M3 owner here. Even if it's an incremental update from the M3, it's going to be an awesome unit. That said I just wanted to offer a quick word of caution.
The M3's wifi is 5ghz capable but is disabled by default with a setting you can't change unless you root the device. The reasoning was some really iffy corporate double-talk about FCC conflicts. That said, after rooting this M3 is a dream. I don't know if the M5 will have this same issue in the US, but if the FCC line has not changed you might need to root. And if you need to, strap yourself in- because Huawei root support is sparse at best.
Rooting the M3 was not difficult per se, but a good number of people (including myself) hit snags because there's conflicting data/results as to the best way to get there. Once you get to the proper image and learn how Huawei's partitions work, it's not too bad. Just be ready for a learning curve. It's a far cry from rooting OnePlus...
So if it turns out that the 5ghz comes locked in the US, either be ready to run 2.4 for a while or wait until someone develops root. Good luck!
Thanks for the info, seven. I'm concerned about the wifi issue you discuss, but I'd be more excited to get an LTE phone in the US. Don't know how much longer AT&T will provide the connectivity I need to keep my X2 working.
The thing with the M5 is how long it's taking to get these out there. The phone was released well over a month ago and I can not find a single seller either on Amazon or E Bay. I'm starting to feel as if it was all a joke.
It should work with US LTE. Towards the bottom of this page shows what bands the M5 has and what bands each network uses.

This is for the 10 inch, but it should be the same as the 8.
Thanks. Any idea where I can actually buy on of these?

Thanks dude,
Just concerned that the version sold in Germany may have different bands that won't do LTE in the U.S.
Depending on the return policy, I may pick one up to check it out myself.
Thanks again.
GREAT!!! Went to the website Amazon. de. Adds say this item can not be shipped to the United States. I get the feeling we are going to be screwed yet again.
Ordered from Amazon Italy. It shipped from Germany, got it in 3 days. I briefly tested tmobile and got internet and calling. I will do more testing. Great first impressions..

Yes bought mine from Amazon.de, took 3 days for delivery to the UK.
Quite often items are cheaper coming from Amazon Germany than the Amazon UK, plus the MediaPad is supplied and delivered by Amazon, not through a third party.
Result?
I want the 64GB WiFi version for use in the USA. I wonder why only the 32 GB version is being currently sold.

To be honest the 32GB isn't really a problem.
I've loaded all my apps and still have well over 15GB left.
All my photo and video live on the micro SD card.
Did some further investigating. The one currently available in Europe does but have the bands for LTE in the US. Maybe we can hope for an international version, but I doubt very much that this will ever see the light of day in the US. May be a legal issue or something. Otherwise, why wouldn't all manufactures just open up the US bands just for the heck of it. After all, the US is one of the top three consumer markets in the world.
Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei's consumer business group, isn't giving up on the US yet... They really want to sell the P20 here. Hoping they bring the Mediapad M5, too.
https://www.engadget.com/2018/03/30/huawei-isnt-giving-up-on-the-us-just-yet/
This is a link to the Huawei promo info for the M5 on the US Huawei website. The only thing it doesn't have is a 'buy now' button. I'd say for sure, at this time! They are going to be available in the US soon. Really hoping to get one. asap.
https://consumer.huawei.com/us/tablets/mediapad-m5-8/
Nice that it's on the site. Wasn't there when I checked last week. Just hope the 8" gets a US release.
I saw a seller that ships to the US; but they only stock a wifi version of the tab. Hopefully, they will release an LTE version over here. Signs are looking good being that it's on the Huawei US site; but I never count my chickens until they are hatched. BTW, has anyone got answer about whether the tab has an ear speaker for calls or do you have to use a blue tooth?
For calls it is the loud speakers, or Bluetooth. No to the ear speaker.
I guess you could also go wired through the USB C adapter that is supplied not tried that yet.
It does work very well through the speakers if you don't mind being on 'loud speaker' to the world!

What do you use your tablet for?

Hey,
I was just wondering what do you do with your tablets? Do you use it for entertainment or work? I wanted to get some ideas so I figured out I'll ask here.
Thanks for the answers
so only after a couple of days
So I bought the M5 10.8 LTE (CRM-AL09) 4GB / 64GB and I can tell you what I bought it for and used so far. Does that qualify to your question?
Short version: I use it as a cheap LTE connected laptop.
Long version:
The problem I was solving was the weird way USA T-Mobile charges for lines meant that in the family plan I pay for, 4 lines cost the same as 3 lines and so I was left with a T-Mobile phone line SIM in a dual-SIM phone doing nothing the vast majority of the time, as I have ATT line from work, so I was looking to move my T-Mobile SIM to something which could make a difference. Most laptops or tablets with LTE require a data SIM which costs something, a big phone can use a phone SIM which is cheaper or for me effectively free.
I already owned a Nexus 10 I used when home, I'd replaced its battery so it did a good job or being at home on strong Wifi (Nexus 10 Wifi is crap) and just watch videos or just use Chrome. So a high-res 10" Wifi was covered.
I already owned a Nexus 7 2013, I'd also replaced its battery, for pocket-size 7" size.
I already had a Lenovo Tab 4 8 Plus which was a 8" Wifi. So 8" Wifi was covered.
So I figured I'd go for a basically massively big phone so when not on Wifi I got a laptop type size device, without paying for a tablet data line.
That means for me its a laptop when on the move which is independently LTE connected. I have a 128GB SD card so its got lots of downloaded media.
Entertainment... Internet, YouTube, videos, ebooks, private mail.

Hi, I have 8.4" Mediapad and it's my main driver. I use it mainly for watching online videos, web browsing ect whilst on breaks at work. Also use it as phone. Best tech I've bought
It's my every day phone. I use it for everything...just wish it had an ear speaker. Great for videos and media. Call quality could be better but otherwise, a great device with 4G capabilities in the U.S. (STH-AL09.)
