New app lets your desktop control your phone over WiFi - HTC EVO 3D

http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/1...-over-wifi-using-a-simple-gorgeous-interface/
Now if only it could somehow do screen-casting it'd be (just about) the best thing ever.

Nice find
Ill have to compare it to the one I'm currently using (Remote Web Desktop) https://market.android.com/details?id=net.xdevelop.rm&feature=related_apps
That one is a little buggy, Screenshots wont display correctly, and Uploading files to device is wonky..
Hopefully this app will take its place

This is neat!
Just tried it and it works!

Thanks for sharing that. It works great

Works pretty well on my Evo 3d and my nook tablet. It's a little wonky when I tried to access the evo from the nook.

This is awesome...works flawlessly for me

Works great! (Even from my SGT10.1!)

[Q] Nook for Android and Honeycomb

Hey guys-
I don't think anyone has asked this one yet, and I can't find an answer in the Dev forums. I know that people had been getting the Nook app (the one from the market) to work with NookieFroyo, but has any had any success getting it to work with Honeycomb on the Nook? I tried installing it today after getting version 2 (which was posted this morning, I believe) to no avail.
I get to sign in and everything and I can even download books, and futz with the settings. But, when I go to read a book it either sits there loading forever, or just crashes outright. Has anyone had any success?
Peter
+1 same problem here.
I was about to post this same question. I believe I saw someone in the main honeycomb thread who said they got it working but I can't remember where or who it was. This is really the only thing keeping this from being a daily driver for me.
Same problem for me, but not only does the nook app just sit and spin, but 50% of the time, nook and kindle crash the device every time, and it reboots.

I'm in the same boat. I get a FC when it loads.
Using the 2a build.
It works for me just fine.
This is not antagonistic, but what advantages are there between the Nook and Kindle apps? I'm sure people have a preference, but I've never seen a need to move away from Kindle. (Supporting B&N is a good reason, I suppose.)

And just to be certain, you're on Honeycomb....and you've actually opened a book and gotten text (not just the table of contents)? I'd be very interested in what version of HC you're using. This would be my daily driver if I could get the nook app working. I appreciate any insight you have!

I have B&N nookbooks so that is why I would like to use this.
im on same bout also running nookhoney v3 get main screen get library and also download books but it hangs on opening book or get a FC. shop opens but havent tried to purchase anything yet.
For me, I use B&N and have friends that use B&N. We use the LendMe feature, which saves me some cash here and there. On the Kindle side, my wife lovers her Kindle, and I sync my Kindle app with her account, and we share books that way.
It's working!!!!
I am running v3 of deeper_blue's HC image and the Nook app works for me. Finally. And I am not sure how or why, it just started to work. I could get to my library before and I could download my book(s). But previously, I would try to open the book and it didn't seem to load, only the never ending circle.
The page loads, I can turn pages, bookmark them, close out, come back to the same page, go to the table of contents, skip to a chapter, etc.
I did change the screen to NOT auto-rotate. I was getting FCs when the screen would flip around between apps, so I shut it off. I am not sure if that helped, but that is one thing that is different now v. before.
(on the other subject: I like all the readers - B&N, kindle, and google books. They are all fine. I like the features that are offered by the NC for the B&N books the best, but they all work fine and read fine )
Great news. I also see that Honeycomb v04 was posted today and it specifically addresses problems with the nook and kindle apps. I'm really glad this is finally fixed. I read quite a bit and the lack of a nook app kept me from using HC as my daily driver.

The one thing I love on stock NC is the magazine reading experience...those the Nook app offer that?

Nook app definately works in HC v4.
But NO magainzes or newspapers in the app. Very disappointing.
Weird I MUCH prefer the app reader experience with the turning pages, etc. but the stock NC is the only thing I have seen let me access the newspapers and magazines
what about the nook color reader app
Is there any way to get the reading app that is on the internal memory to work with HC? Theat would be ideal and the NC would then be just about perfect!

Hi Peter,
Nook app on HC v4 works great for me. It syncs BN library pretty quickly as well.
I tried unmounting uSD before installing it (and several other apps giving FCs) and it worked. Now its my standard ePub reader again.
Good luck m8!

[Q] Anyone tried the MLB 2011 app yet?

The lite version works, just wondering if the full version works.
Full version working for me... I haven't tried streaming live data yet, but the basic functions of the app work.
Full version works for me. I was streaming a brewers broadcast yesterday.
Works for me. I have a hard time getting into spring training games though.
+1 it woks
Looks pretty cool.
If we have mlb subscription and our Evo's get internet with flash, do we need the app?
Can we watch live games without it?

I didn't see the mlb.tv option anywhere. I'm running CM7. For people who have gotten it working, are you using Nookie Froyo? Auto Nooter? I tried editing the build.prop on CM7 to spoof a Tab, but it didn't seem to work.
For the time being, I was able to get the mlb.tv website working pretty well through Opera on CM7. That'll do, if nobody can come up with repeatable steps to get it working through At Bat, but I'd love to be able to do it through the app if possible.
I'm running CM7 and the full version works with pitch by pitch and audio broadcasting. I also have a MLB.TV subscription and can watch vlive video on the Motorola Droid X. Live video didn't work on the NC. I got the video working through Playon though. Video quality is excellent over my wifi! Watching the cards game right now even though it's on ESPN.
Same here, playon works, DROID2 works, everything works fine but no video option. Running CM7 with the tablet mods. Thinking it's either the app detecting it isn't an approved device or something with flash.
Playon with CM7, video is working for me!
It's said to work fine with the verizon galaxy tablet. I think if we can make it think that it's that tablet, it might work. Is that the Build.Prop that controls that? Anyone know the build.prop string for the Verizon Galaxy Tablet?

Yeah, that's what I meant in my post above. I changed the following in the build.prop:
ro.build.fingerprint=google/passion/passion:2.3.3/GRI40/102588:user/release-keys
to
ro.build.fingerprint=samsung/GT-P1000/GT-P1000/GT-P1000:2.2/FROYO/XXJJ3:user/release-keys
But it didn't seem to have any effect. One thing that occurred to me this morning is that perhaps I should try downloading it with that build.prop in place (as opposed to downloading it with the original one, switching the build.prop, and then opening it.) Perhaps the market serves up a different version when you download it using one of the approved devices.
I'd love to hear from someone who has streaming through the At Bat App working on their Nook. Until I hear more info, I'm dubious.
I will give it a shot tonight. I'll trying changing it and then reinstalling it straight from the market. Will try using the apk from my DROID2, it has working video.
Tried both ideas out, no go.
I wonder if there's more of the build.prop that needs to be changed in order to properly spoof it as a Tab. Anyone have any experience in editing build.prop files for other reasons?
There is someone in the Galaxy Tab forums that clamins they got it working on non certified devices. I'll post if I can find out what he did.
Definitely report anything you find, jkabaseball. I've seen you posting in a few other related threads, and appreciate that you're as dedicated to figuring this out as I am.
Works great on Cm7. W/tablet tweaks, latest build...(has been working on last few builds) w/video, the Astros are Horrible Again, and Mark Texeira is still doing what he does best up in NYC...Go Yanks!

I got the CM7 w/ tab tweaks. You saying the video works on it from MLB At-Bat 11?

[Q] Honeycomb eReaders, and You!

So here's the dilemma: I love the HC preview, and I love Aldiko, however i have yet to find a way to make them work together flawlessly. No matter what DPI i have set, i can never get Aldiko to format the books correctly. What i mean is, the top of the pages cut off some of the words... either the top half of the words cut off, or whole sections of words get cut off.
Questions:
1) Does anybody have this working correctly, and if so what settings are you using.
2) If not what eReader is everybody using for HC? (note: The nook app is not an option for me. I will run CM7 or even Froyo all day long before i use the nook app.)
nook app or kindle app
Nook app is pretty good

Why so down on the Nook app? It works very well; all the bells & whistles (highlight, dictionary lookup, etc.) also work nicely.

Personal preference, however i think i may have to be open minded and take a third and maybe a fourth look at the nook app at this point.
I have tried a bunch of ebook apps as I still use my nook as primarily a reading device. Right now I am between Cool Reader and FBReader. As of right now I am preferring FBReader as Cool Reader seems to have issues with certain books, seems hit or miss. I still fall back to Kindle and Nook apps for DRM'd books. I too liked Aldiko but I found it to be running really sluggish lately so I dumped it. Also check out Moon Reader+ as it too is pretty cool but it also had some annoyances for me personally. I also read about an app that is coming soon which looks like it may be pretty slick Bluefire.
Hope that helps and keep in mind I don't run Honeycomb so am not sure how compatible these apps may or may not be.
I could absolutely be remembering wrong, but when I tried the Honeycomb Preview (which was awesome) I remember that being the one big bummer for me as well, that Aldiko didn't work. I was able to get it to work for me by going under Settings-Applications-Aldiko and then selecting "Move to phone". That may or may not fix it for you, but I thought I'd mention it.

[Q] Stuff I've Done, Am I Missing Anything Good?

So I've had my gtablet for a little while and found some things I really like. I'm going to list them, and maybe say why. There are a couple things I couldn't get working. Really though, my purpose with this post is to see if anyone knows about anything really cool I'm missing!!!
The ROM: Calkulin's 1.1 - this ROM has been great. VERY responsive compared to TNT lite, a couple of the CM's, and Vegan that I have tried. I'm also running it with Clem's kernal. Still haven't been able to change anythign to fix the random shut off problem, but it restarts pretty quickly and I'm still getting 10+hrs batt life if I just leave the screen on when I'm at school.
Thumb Keyboard: From the market - this keyboard is awesome. It costs a couple bucks, but it's worth it. The keyboard is optimized for tablet use (ie - letters on the sides, so you're not reaching over the middle). Using it for a week now with no complaints.
ADW Launcher: I paid. Used it on my fascinate. Like it on my tab. Are there launchers optimized for tablets or anything cool/unique?
Hard Keyboard: it's a "genius" USB keyboard. It was 18 bucks. Kids at school make fun of me for having a corded keyboard but I don't care. It's light weight and works well.
Calibration.ini on my SD card. IT'S LIKE A DIFFERENT SCREEN!
Carbon Fiber Pattern Stick on from Ebay everyone else seems to have found. Like it a lot.
Market fix, although once in a while appbrain has an app the market can't seem to find. No real complaints yet though.
My biggest complaint is a widget problem - the Widget for SPRINGPAD does not exist! It's not even on the list. I wish I could find it.
I really enjoy using OFFICESUITE for taking notes in class and it supports keyboard shortcuts like copy/paste, save. 30 day trial is nice, too. RepliGo Reader has been my go-to pdf reader (I read a lot of those in PT school). Alkilido (sp?) Ebook reader is my go-to for ebook readers. Dropbox, and the titanium media sync for dropbox is great! I've been switching between Firefox Browser and Miren Browser for web browsing, but haven't found a browser for the tablet I'm completely sold on.
What i'd really like to find is a stylish looking folding case I've read through the posts and I'm not really excited about anything I've seen on amazon or etsy.
I guess my big question is: am I missing out on anything really cool?
Nice timeline of what you've done. Looks like you've tweaked the system to your liking.
As I thought about things you might have missed, it occurs to me that there isn't any one or several things you just have to do. It's more about the process of tinkering and playing with a new toy.
as for ROMs, I've tried TNTL, Vegan 5.X, and currently Vegan Ginger. They've all been great. Each has their own little quirks, and if you put made me use one or the other, I would be less upset about the actual choice, than the lack of choice.
I guess all I'm saying is just keep tinkering. Make sure you get comfortable with CWM backup, and flash away into new territories.
bah stupid forward button
Only thing I did in addition to those things was d isable the hard menu buttons on the side (I kept hitting them when I didn't want to) using button remapper and used button savior to make software keys that are easy to use.
As far as accessories VS dropped the ball in that area, from what I can see they are getting a nice penny from slapping their name on the tablet and paying for someone to update it a few times and they'll quit supporting it. I don't expect to see any "official" items for this tablet no matter what VS says.
A cool home launcher that's been optimized for tablets is VTL. Check it out in the Gtablet Apps section of XDA. It's based on ADW and is a work in progress but runs really well.
vtl is awesome but it doesnt play nice with caulkins
What is the "calibration.ini" all about? I am running TnT lite (though I an a CM7 fan on my phone), love almost everything but the viewing angles so if you have something that helps I'd love to know about it.
Thanks!
Create a file on the SD card called calibration.ini if you are unhappy about he responsive ness of your screen. I was, and the difference it made was like it became a completely different device!
Better yet, download this App and calibrate at will:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=934500
The 'problem' with calibration.ini is that if you leave it on the SDcard, it recalibrates everytime you reboot. Not a problem unless you happen to be touching the screen while it does it!
With this app you can run the calibration at will.

That's the first thing I tried. Unfortunately, like some others on here, it did not fix the screen at all time. It worked the first day, but not anytime afterward for me. I then tried the .ini file fix, perfect!
I did the ini before I saw an app was released. Deleted after boot n its worked well since but thanks a lot! Can anyone recommend a good mobile web browser? I'm using Miren and Firefox. Tried skyfire and don't much care for the dolphin apps.

Can you be more specific? I'm running Calkulin+Clemsyn Froyo combo and VTL is included in that ROM. Seems to work as advertised for me.
Great thread OP!
Im running skyfire for now as my browser. Firefox all the way for my macbook and pc! The reviews for firefox in market make me not want to bother. Is it any better than skyfire? Only thing that bugs me is can't delete tabs, you've got to wipe cashed or after a reboot they are gone.
So what's the issue with the calibration of screen? Is this something everyone with a Gtab should do? Only just out of bootup is my screen unresponsive.
EDITI ran it and can now tell a huge difference! Everyone run the app that was posted.
Can't wait to run VTL once launcher widgets work.
Running rockplayer with no more HD playback issues so far (wish VLC would put out an app).
Ive noticed FF renders some pages a little smoother, is a big different from Loren or skyfire. But it takes a little longer to lad.

NFC: Pictures

Using NFC may seem easy, but I was having a hell of a time getting my note 2 and my girlfriends DNA to transfer photos. I was using quickpic. This did not work.
Instead, I used the stock gallery and it transferred pictures just fine using bluetooth. I went through a bunch of apps and ended up buying send! Pro | File Transfer(NFC). This app worked well because it seemed to use wifi direct instead of bluetooth. I'm in no way affiliated with the app, but it does work well and wanted you guys to know if you were looking for an app. I also tried bump, didn't send high res pics (although I didn't investigate fully if it could). I also tried blueNFC which didn't work as well as the stock Android beam.
The nicest thing about Send! is that it uses wifi direct. Seems like versions of the one X had wifi direct built in. No idea why verizon or HTC didn't include it (along with a menu button!), but luckily Send! will work until the next software release when they include these features.
