[Q] What is making my screen slightly uneven? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I've noticed that on my phone the distance between the screen and the bezel is not even all the way around the phone. It looks like in the top right and top left the screen is deeper than the bottom. At the same time the screen in the bottom left is higher than the rest of the phone. The screen doesn't appear to be loose, so I doubt this will ever be an issue, but I was wondering what exactly causes this. I've checked out a few phones from different stores this seems to vary between phone to phone. I have seen a few that are more or less even all the way around while I have seen others like mine. Between the ones I have seen with the varying distance, the bottom left corner seems to always be higher than the rest.

That's been reported on. Seems quality checks vary a bit. No one has posted any problems resulting from it. Most phone cases cover the difference.

I am not talking about the space between the bezel and the screen horizontally, I am talking vertically. The bottom left corner looks like the glue didn't stick properly causing it to become unstuck. If I press on the screen in that area there is a noticeable sound like when your fingers have something sticky on them and you put them together and take them apart. However, this sound might be created due to the fact that that corner is where the speaker is and the plastic is weaker because of the holes.

Mine makes the same noise and I don't have a raised area of the screen in the bottom left corner...

Haven't heard much about it making a noise when you press on it, but a number have posted about your issue. Seems it's always the bottom and either the right or left side being higher. No one has yet posted about both being higher, at least not yet.
Samsung screens are attached to the phone by an adhesive tape/pad. So it would be possible that some bad batches went out allowing the screen to lift. All Samsung phones come with a one year warranty. You'll be without a phone but you can send it in to get fixed if it bothers you enough or gets worse.
If you go to their website you can register your phone and they will extend the warranty a little bit. I think at least a month longer.

I actually have a crooked screen

My SGS2 screen tilts SLIGHTLY to the right. Once I started to notice this I see this every time I use the phone, and it's getting very annoying.
Is someone else experiencing the same problem? Is this something you would send the phone in to service because of?
Can you provide a photo of your phone showing the problem?
I know of no software issue that causes this (there is a Google Egg that hangs the phone screen output slightly to the right).
It sounds like you could have a hardware screen issue but it would have to be showing on all screens, be that the Home screen or when running any Apps/Games.
I don't know if you can see it. If you look at the bottom of the screen it might be noticeable to you. It's the same way in every screen, so I think it's a hardware problem. It tilts slightly to the right.
Sorry, I can't see any tilt from that photo.
I also measured the angle of the bottom edge of the screen and the Home button.
They are both in alignment with each other.
When the screen is switched off you should see the outlining edge of the display.
Now when you switch on the screen does it fit to this?
It seems to be that to whole frame is is a BIT crooked. I don't know how I can show this accurately when it doesn't show that much.
Are you sure it's not your eyes deceiving you?
Try taking a few more shots (close in at the bottom) and then load the shots up on your PC and look closer...... Try and measure the angle against say the bottom of the phone to see if there is any discrepancy.

I've been staring at the photo for like one minute now. And I don't see it. Maybe if you go closer with the camera?
I can see it the top leans to the right, like the frame is not correct. defo faulty
Out of curiosity, has anyone tried using a ruler? Or a measuring tape (like the free paper ones you get at Ikea if you are afraid of scratching it).
I just did a measurement of my screen to the edge of the outside bezel... Starting from bottom to top..
Bottom from both corners of the screen to the outside bottom bezel: 1.55cm +/- 0.025cm
Bottom of both sides of screen to the outside bezel: 0.45cm +/- 0.025cm
Top of both sides of screen to the outside bezel: 0.45cm +/- 0.025cm
Top from both corners of the screen to the outside top bezel: 1.55cm +/- 0.025cm
Never knew this before, but the screen is dead center of the phone..
I also took a measurement of the diagonal: 4 1/4" or 10.25cm +/- 0.025cm
Height: 9.30cm +/- 0.025cm (both sides)
width: 5.55cm +/- 0.025cm (top & bottom)
My Galaxy S II is perfectly aligned.. I do admit though, after you said it, I felt it was crooked... That's why I ended up taking the above measurements --

[Q] Any way to push the screen into the bezel?

It appears that the screen in the bottom left hand corner of the phone (by the settings button) on my phone is raised slightly higher than the rest of the phone. Where the rest of the screen is clearly below the height of the bezel, this corner appears to be flush. At the end of the day this isn't a big deal, but I would like for the screen to be even. Upon inspection of the phone, the speaker location is directly under this spot, so it makes me wonder if this is intended since there are more electronics in that spot.
I am gonna go by the store and check out a demo, but I would still like to know if anyone else has noticed this.
My phone is not like that. It's slightly recessed all the way around.
I put a screen proctor on it. It is hard to tell....
Mine is slightly recessed too. I am trying to get a picture of it, but it is hard to accurately show. From what I can tell, the screen becomes more recessed as it approaches the top of the screen. From side to side the screen should be at the same recess point. On my phone this is true for the whole phone except for at the bottom where the left side is raised a hair bit more than the right now. It honestly isn't a big deal, it was just one of those things that I noticed and will continue to bother me until I either exchange it or forget about it.

Another short review

Size:
I've had it for a few weeks now, and I no longer feel the size of it. It almost feels like I might choose an even bigger one next time! But this is definately gonna be my daily driver for the next two years.
The back button is very hard to reach when I've got the phone in my right hand. Left-handed use is good, though.Sits nicely in the pocket of my jeans.
Chassis:
The front is gorgous, almost no bezel at all. I thought I would dislike capacative buttons, but they are no problem. The hole for the front camera is not perfectly aligned.
The back gets quite smudgy.
The power and volume buttons are so petite, they took some getting used to.
I don't like the placement of the audiojack and USB. If the audio was on the bottom I would be able to slip it into my pocket without changing my grip, but no go.
Call quality:
Yup, it's an issue. I'm gonna try to change my grip when I experience it.
Resolution:
Perfect for my eyes. I can not distinguish individual pixels.
Screen:
Very good colours and brightness. Blacks are always poor on LCD's, including this one.
Battery life:
Lasts me two days. Perfect.
I've come to believe that this:
The hole for the front camera is not perfectly aligned
is purposeful. There's some "lip" around the top portion of the hole, probably to help the light pattern in use patterns for front-facing cameras.
Now if you say that your "lip" is around the left, right, or bottom, *then* we have an issue . But I'm guessing yours is on the top also.
This is the first I'm hearing about the camera not being aligned... In practice, it works perfectly, and these things are designed with micrometers or even smaller units of measure: I don't think that misalignment is something that is likely to happen.

Yeah, the "lip" as you call it is on top of the hole, so I guess it's the same for everyone, and I'm prolly never gonna use the front camera anyways.

Build Issues - Bottom of display creaking?

When I push (lightly) on the bottom area of the display - the capacitive button area - there is a pretty loud creak every time, as if the display pops out of the case and pushing it snaps it back in. All I have to do is touch either corner of the bottom of the display and I get this creaking. At that point, it stops, but if I try it again five minutes later it creaks again. Does this happen to anyone else, and is it a big enough deal to consider an exchange?

I don't have that problem. In my opinion, that is something pretty annoying and I would look to get a replacement, if possible

I experienced a similar issue on the TOP of the screen, where it the screen is flush with the body on the left side of the earpiece, but NOT completely flush on the right side of the screen (just under the front facing camera). The right side of the screen pops out a little bit. Anyone experience this? I am going to bring this to AT&T to see if I can get a replacement.

i had the exact same problem with the onex, what ever you do, dont squeeze it back in, you will end up with a yellow spot from what ever is underneath it, i went round the whole xcreen pushing and sticking it back in,it was all flush, no popping out on the corners or creeking, after about an hour i started getting yellow spots and lines at ther top under the speaker ans in the corner where it was popping out before, i actually got angry in the end and smashed the screen lol, cost me £170 from htc repair centre, phone is now better than when i purchased and a i regret to say its better than the onex+ i purchased while phopne was in repair, the scrolling on the onex+ is reall peaing me off now, its double clicking things, when i scroll it rubberbands and goes the other way lol, also it clicks on stuff in a different area to where my finger is sometimes when i scroll,i have a thread and im reporting it to htc after christmas, and i hope everyone else is, i want as many people as possible to get in touch with them so they no its serious, with a bit of luck we might get 4.2.1 earlier or at least a hotfix ota.Improved scrolling my ass.

two big problems with build quailty im not happy

Ok the tablet is great. But after a week ive noticed today two things that are making me return it and probally ask for money back.
The back near the power button feels as if its not glued down when u push it slightly it clicks, this isnt acceptable in a 400 quid tablet
Now the screen ive just noticed this when I hold the far right corner the screen shows extreme signs of pressure from back and distorts, its. Only does it along the left hand side.
Has anyone else noticed these problems

I have mine arriving on the 6th, so I hope I don't get any problems like this. However, it does sound unusual from all the reviews I've read. I'd say replace it, sounds faulty.
Noticed it also on the right side.
Screen is also too sensitive.

the power button is designed that way i think.. but the sensitivity on the right is i didn't notice so far.. i felt a little bit sensitive when i first remove the plastic cover on the screen.. i think its due to adhesive on the plastic cover..
