What is causing all thise Awake time on my Razr...even did a factory reset.. - Motorola Droid RAZR

i have tried everything. Even did a factory reset and installed NOTHING but synicng my google mail, contacts and calander and after a few hours of sitting there i check the battery and it shows awake Allot. like it seems to wake up every few min, small little lines all over the graph. when the screen is off.
i have wifi off now, and my phone is not active (im on my X), set to CDMA and its still waking up. i have set all the settings that i can think of to off that would make it wake up....
any ideas what so ever? last night i let it sit there all night on wifi, and went to bed with 100% woke up to 60% with massive awake time...
please help this is the only thing making me want to leave the razr...
Thank you

Try enabling the battery extender profile in smart actions. It cuts background sync/GPS if the phone is not charging or in motion.

Only when the screen is off, when unlocked everything will turn back on and your emails will come through.

yeah, thats the thing though...i use gtalk allot...dont care about the emails but i use gtalk

I don't have the battery extender smart action on and I'm getting amazing standby time better than my nexus s with mostly the same apps. I'm thinking it must be an app that's causing you battery problems.

Try os monitor, its free in the market & can help you narrow down what's running. System Tuner has a free version as well & can help you see how your running processes/services are acting. The pro version even gives a start up monitor so you can freeze or prevent certain things from running at all.

3G data always active - Help needed!!

I noticed that from last night the 2 arrows over H icon in Bionix V is always lit for me. It should be lit only when data transfer is happening, so something is continously sucking data. Battery drains like crazy, phone dead 2 hours after charged!
- I tried rebooting multiple time to see if a stray process is causing this, but no change
- Checked all running services from settings menu and killed them all one by one, but still data always active!
Any help anyone??? I have a phone that dies on 2 hours now

Do you have the super power xda app. If not download it from the market and it will control background data when in sleep mode.

Thanks, I appreciate your reply (my phone died again in 2 hours after my first post). I have tried the super power app before and it is good. It can switch 3G on/off when phone sleeps. But that is not exactly my issue. If the phone is always hooked to 3G network and no actual data transfer happens (3G symbol will be there, but arrows will be greyed out showing no real activity), we know Vibrants give average 20 hours battery life. For me the arrows over 3G are always lit showing constant data transfer on 3G which is killing the battery. I cannot for my life figure out what process is constantly consuming data. Is there a background process monitoring app which will capture processes that are not reported in "Running apps" under settings menu?
I'm not sure what the problem may be, if it looks like everything has been killed. If you are stock, do a factory reset and failing that contact tech support. If you are rooted and ROM'd, ODIN to stock and/or try a new ROM.
And not to beat a dead horse, but that SuperPower app is the shiz. Unless you specifically specify an app to run while the phone is sleeping it will kill ALL processes that are sucking data. If you have not tried SuperPower since this problem has arisen, I recommend trying it.

[Q] Device suddendly doesnt go to sleep

Well, I have my device running for 2days already with no reboot.
I charged it at night and have it running for 5 hours.
I did make 1:30 hours phone calls, a few internet and so, but its awake for the whole 5 hours which doesnt makes any sense..
The only reason I noticed it was how I lost 48% in 5hours.
I have almost nothing running in background, stock task manager shows only messages, gmail & Android market.
the "running" tab in Go launcher shows 250mb free out of 838mb total..
now after reboot its fine again, it goes to deep sleep (i checked with cpu spy)
but the problem is, how do i tell what was the cause for this mess?
BetterBatteryStats showed me that the phone was awake 100.0% of the time..
Check "partial wake locks" in the better battery stats app. Will give you info on what app or process time awake.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Well, in this menu there's nothing suspicious, the highest one takes 2-3mins with not too high count,
and the rest are for less than that & with low count as well.
So what else can I do to check it out?
If its not deep sleeping, what frequency is it stuck on when screen is off?
Is any data connection on, gps etc
There is also an app, "watchdog lite", may help alert you if there are amy rogue apps or processes (depending on config)
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.zomut.watchdoglite
What is your current system setup and config?
Have you made any system changes or installation of apps or themes since it was working fine?
If still no good our out of ideas, Maybe reflash the kernel and no setcpu profiles, UC, OC etc. .......
or at worst full wipe and reflash the lot.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
I will try Watchdog.
I have everything the same as before, nothing changed much.
The only serious thing I did in the past week was freezing 1-2 things with TB.
There was nothing running in the background such as download or similar
The freq. used on screen off was 200MHz
What was frozen, and how about unfreeze and test?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
It seems like it doesn't use deep sleep again. I didn't di anything serious since the last reboot.
The only things I froze are kies, system update...but I returned them back.
One thing I noticed but not sure if it was like that before or not, is that in the battery info, I have battery idle, operation time is as time from last charge and time without signal is 100%.
Also, when I look at the graph, awake and screen on are synchronized so im getting lost here.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
My device is at 100% awake according to betterbatterystats but in watchdog I don't see anything suspicious.
What cab I do?
I removed most of the things I installed lately but it continues

As I said before;
Is any data connection on, gps etc ?
Also, do you have a strong signal, so its not constantly looking for a network or bouncing between 2g / 3g etc.
Put thephone into Flight Mode, so this eliminates connection to your network, wifi,.gps, etc.
If still no good our out of ideas, Maybe reflash the kernel and no setcpu profiles, UC, OC etc. .......
or at worst full wipe (factory data reset,.cache, dalvik etc in CWM and reflash the lot immediately after.
Don't forget to the md5 checksum to ensure your DLs are not corrupted and matching that of the Dev's original.

One member here found social hub was the cause of not deep sleeping. More than likely a config problem.
One of my suggestions was to put into flight mode and test.
Also you can use Droid Wall to block unwanted network connections.

Well, unfortunately I dont know whats the cause so I dont know how I can configure droid wall.
After 6 hours in night, I had the device for 15 mins awake with no explenation. Partial wakelocks shows the highest activity is *sync* with 1m18s, count:6. The highest count is like...200~, not too critical.
The device was in deep sleep for 6hours but 200mhz for 17mins, which is the time I have no explenation for. In bettery mode you can see that 15~ mins where its awake but screen off.
I have no explenation for this but also dont know what caused it.
The good thing is that I lost only 2% over night, so I cant be too worried about it..
So I still don't know what caused it to be 100% awake.
meanwhile, I have no OC, OV/UV, no setcpu settings at all.
Im on Cognition 1.51 & Speedmod T40. I dont have the Samsung Apps installed at all.
Much better
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
At the moment, yes
however, the issue wasnt found & solved yet, so I need to keep looking for it.
dunno what else to do, sadly..
Full wipe and reflash does not take a great deal of time, a lot less than troubleshooting in most cases.
Just backup your user apps and data with titanium before hand, and md5 checksum match.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
But if I backup all user apps and data, how will it help me ? Isn't one of them the cause for that ?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Just in case. It may be rom our kernel
You always have the option to download fresh from market and just restore the data.
Edit: If it happens again;
Personally, I'd backup, full wipe, flash. Reboot after first boot, and before / after applying themes and after restoring.

Smart Actions that I find good

I don't want to be too critical but many Smart Actions I found here or other Razr forums tend to be very restrictive on your use.
Com'on, you bought an expensive fancy phone which uses the fastest 4G LTE network, you paid some premium on those joy. It is never a Verizon LTE Razr if you turn 4G off.
So my bottom line is :
1.I want to be able to surf web/watch youtube/check email on 4G or wifi network when I want to (as opposed to wait for 5 seconds because it was off when screen was off)
And
2. I want to have reasonable battery life.
After some testing, Smart Actions that work on my Razr is
1. At Home: when it detect my wifi, it will switch there.
2. In call: When there is incoming call, turn off Data Connection and Screen turn to 0% brightness. (This is CDMA network, so you can't surf and use data at the same time anyway. Or do you really do a lot of such things? If so, please ignore this)
This #2 will help if you have constant phone conversation of about 30 mins daily. You won't want to burn unnecessary juicy while you are only talking.
3. At work where no wifi is available (for security reasons), I turn it off. I sit in office most of the time of the day, so you won't want wifi keep scanning and eating juice. I used TImeFrame to identify this, not geo location because wifi will need to be turned off.
4. In the night, using the night saver sample, I turned off cell data and background sync.
5. Low battery saver: surprisingly, in this action I only turned it to 0% screen brightness. Why? Just imagine you are using it as GPS or some important task on the road, you dont want to lose the GPS/Data if the battery dropped below a threshhold?
6. Most helpful action:
No Action At Work.
If you are working in office most of the time, your cellphone is quietly sitting on your desk mainly. So if you specify
1. at work
2. movement detection found nothing moving
then disable background sync. it will save the juice and when you turn on the screen to check email, the 4G is always there.
The whole idea , is not to disable data connection whenever you turn off screen. Many times you will have background downloads and sometimes when you turn on the screen, the phone takes some time to restore the data connection. which makes you staring at your phone can wait for a while. quite unfortunate if you have an Iphone user sitting beside you immediately pull the data out, right? =)
Personal settings, hopefully it helps you. It will easily give you 12 hours of usage. and for my charge now: 10 hours later it is at 80%, of course it has 6 hours of night standby.
Let's discuss more TESTED smart actions here? =)
note: if your phone is in your pocket a lot during a working day, don't use motion detection and you know why...
You can use voice and data simultaneously when on 4g. Just fyi.

Yup, it's definitely useful too.
Example: talking to friend on phone about hanging out, go to home screen open Google maps to check when the next bus comes, while still talking to friend

[Q] Mobile Data/APN ON-OFF Widget problems

I normally use wifi and thus mobile data is normally off. On my previous phone, I used extended controls which worked really well. I like having widget on the screen to turn the mobile data on or off, really not into screwing around with settings.
With the RAZR, with extended controls, the data off option seems to still allow the phone to "think" there is a mobile connection. I see the sync symbol appear and I think that this searching for a data connection is killing the battery life somehow.
I have now tried various widgets like APNDroid, extended controls, etc and they all seem to have the same effect. I think it is because they just rename the APN versus completely turning off the data.
Does anyone have any advice or suggestions on this issue? Thank you in advance.
Rob
I think you can set up smart actions to toggle it off for you whenever you connect to Wi-Fi. And then to toggle it back on when you leave the Wi-Fi area.

Thanks for the suggestion Gary. Thought about smart actions but I leave mobile data off all the time until I need it.

I was using the smart actions our Razrs and with the mobile data off it wasn't downloading Voicemails or pictures in text messages until the mobile data was turned back on. Not sure if its something with our setup or not, but I disabled the smart action until I investigate it further.
Yeah, the not downloading MMS thing is fairly common when you turn off data. I don't receive many MMS so it is not something that I really concerned myself about.
After searching for some time now, I found that juice defender has a mobile data widget which is doing what I need. I do not have juice defender enabled but installed it just for the widget. In the widget list it is called "Toggle: mobile data". Seems to get the job done.
I will look into using the other features of juice defender as I have heard many good things about it. I am guessing it is similar to smart actions but maybe not as user friendly.
Many thanks.
Juice Defender was awesome on my Samsung Epic. I haven't looked at all the smart actions yet so I don't know if most of the features of juice defender can be accomplished with that or not.
Wasn't sure about the MMS, just wanted to mention in case it was an issue.
Good luck!

Just had the best battery life ever from this phone. Only real changes were the juice defender widget and setting almost all apps to close using task manager. Normal day at work, about 10 hours, used to come home with about 40-50% battery, today it was at 90% after work.

What's wrong with the stock Mobile Data Toggle widget?
Sent from my XT910 using xda premium
Which widget is that one? I see airplane, GPS, wifi, etc but nothing for data specifically. It would be awesome to use a stock widget and have the same results.
Sent from my XT910 using XDA App
This one. Is it not present in VZW firmware? Could certainly explain why it's grouped separately from the rest of the stock toggle widgets if so.
Sent from my XT910 using xda premium
Strange ... I do not see that widget in my list.
When you turn data off using that widget, does the data icon in your taskbar completely disappear or just go to an inactive state (icon grey all the time)?
With all the widgets I have tried so far, the data icon just goes inactive (icon grey all the time) but using the juice defender widget the data icon disappears completely from the taskbar.
When I had the data inactive (icon grey all the time), I would see the phone attempting to sync and this led me to believe that there is likely several things trying to find a connection. During that time, my battery life sucked hard, was worried that if my work day lasted too long that my phone would die (and I don't use my phone much during the day + wifi, BT, sound, etc all off). Since using the JD widget, I am rocking 80-90% remaining at the end of my work day so far.
Other items I have done to save battery are:
SetCPU profile - nothing special, just min CPU (300-300) for screen off, recharging or low battery
Task Manager - autoclose everything 2 min after screen off except the widgets I want running
Screen Brightness - about 30 or 40%
Data completely disappears when the switch is toggled. It's the same effect as disabling packet data from within the settings menu (normally under wireless & networks, RAZR has it under data manager).
I've seen that grey icon too. Suspect the blue/grey icon colours represent the heartbeat connection to Google, just like the green/grey icons in stock Gingerbread. So grey data icon = connected to network with no throughput, which an APN change could well accomplish.
I will investigate the possibility of extracting the widget, but assume it has been left out due to differences between CDMA/LTE & GSM/UMTS.
Sent from my XT910 using xda premium
I'm using JD and my data is blue (just the 3G /4G words) but no bars when I have my wifi on. I am using advanced mode with Location if that helps.
I have no complaints about battery drain either. Pretty constant use today and at about 35% after 11 hours.

[Q] Smart Actions

I have unsuccessfully tried to set up smart actions to disable wifi and enable gps when I am not connected to a wireless network(or no wireless signal), and enable wifi and disable gps when I get to certain places. Can anyone give me some guidance on how to accomplish this? Any other power saving smart actions are welcomed.
I would also like to ask if theres any tweakes for better performance and better battery life. Im running stock ICS and am rooted.
Juice Defender Ultimate has some nice location-based controls for WiFi. Not sure about GPS...but it saves me so much battery even on stock ROM that I just leave GPS enabled all the time. Worth the money for Ultimate.
If you don't require data for emails and facebooking or whatever else the kids do these days, I use a smart action to disable data and background data sync when screen is off.
It doubles my battery life. I can now go two days on my maxx with medium use.
I can kill it in a day if I want to. Usually it takes two though.

What exactly does cellular data disable? Well i not be getting messages from contacts? How about background sync, what all does that eliminate ? Is there any action to turn off wifi when not connected to certain ones?
Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2
Cellular data is data(3g/4g/1x). It stops your phone searching for a signal or downloading anything or uploading for that matter.
Background sync is what gives you emails and messages from various polling services such as Facebook.
I don't need to get emails except when I turn my screen on.
Juice defender does allow periodic data and background to check for emails and such.

I would recommend trying to do what you need with Juice Defender, since that helps battery life dramatically, at least for my uses.
If you need to set up something more complicated/specific, Tasker seems to work well.
