wannabe developer!!! - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

hi guys ive been on xda for a little while now and ive learned alot. i think ive upgraded from a noob somewhat. what i want though is to be a developer not just use u guys work. so in saying that if there is any developer out there that would point me to a source where i can fully understand what make the things you guys develop tick. like learning the parts, files, what does what etc i think u get the point. i wanna get to the point where i can develope great apps, ROMs, disect code all that great stuff. ive tried to add to the cause by buying you guys apps on the market now i want to contribute in a bigger way. just so u know i work full time have a wife a 2yo and a 6 week old baby. i used xda premium. feel free to pm me. thanks in advance for your help.

Paid to root

Hey all...I'm VERY new to all of this rooting stuff...still reading about it and I can't seem to wrap my head around it....Not sure if I'd be crossing a line by asking this, but here it goes....are there people on here that would actually root a phone for someone if they (ie..me) are to stupid to do so?
Of course there would be compensation involved.
Thanks for any info!!!
If you are new to the point that you are not comfortable following the steps needed to root your phone then I would say that you should not be worrying about rooting your phone at this point.
Why do I say this? It is because you will want to flash a myriad of Roms after your phone is rooted, which I guarantee will cause issues that you will not be able to figure out on your own.
You also need to ask yourself what it is that you hope to gain from rooting your phone. The stock Thunderbolt has bloat no doubt, but it is generally compatible with apps and is about to receive the Gingerbread OTA (non-root users theorize) fairly soon.
What do you want that can only be accomplished by rooting your phone at this point? If you cannot answer that question, then I hope you will take my advice and do some reading on this site, and one or two other sites, until you are ready to root your phone without paying someone to do it for you.
One other thing. Please do not create posts asking about the proverbial 'Best Rom'. There is no such thing.
Just my .02 cents!
I appreciate the info....Thanks!!!

You're very welcome. I hope that I did not scare you off of rooting, but it is something that should not be done without some careful thought before hand.
For $100 I'll root your phone.

I've rooted several devices for friends that have no intention of using clockworkmod. They simply want the advantages of root and to run a new ROM like CM7. I'd be happy to do it for money, and I don't think the end user of a rooted devices needs to know jack about it rooting it to enjoy the benefits. In short, I'm happy to root a device for someone as long as I know they aren't going to get in there and brick the thing somehow and come to me to fix it like it's my problem. Most people are decent enough to do that.
if you look online(or in your local yellow pages), you can find shops locally that will fix, root, etc your cell phone.
just here in San Diego there's about a dozen places that offer these services.
although i will tell you... the first time you figure out you have a problem with your carb and it's bad enough that you can't drive your car... then a "friend" tells you, just bring the carb over here & we'll fix it for you... then you're just standing there looking at the carb and thinking "uhhh..."
now that's rooting a phone x 10 difficultly.
I'll do it for free, teach you how i did it, and give you the basic knowledge of how not to brick. Where are you located?

I didn't have anybody to guide me when i first started and i know how frustrating it can be. And you never know, he may be the next great developer with the right start. I have been the "tech support" for my entire family who I converted to android. It would be nice to teach someone who will want to learn as opposed to my family who just says here you do it...
And you are right on the money when you say ppl who use Th3orys roms are nice and helpful. I have learned a great deal from that community.
I am not a dev, just someone who knows how to implement the awesome features created by the community here at XDA.

I know we are going off topic but I feel the same way. If people did not get smart with other users and just be helpful people would have a great time learning.

Dang if I was near my laptop which my dad has webx on I would do it for you. I have rooted a bunch of phones for friends and family and I find it especially fun teaching them what root, roms, etc. can help them achieve. Today I rooted my friends sensation so he would have the sensation xe (beats audio) options and speed. If you feel that your stock phone seems slow rooting, overclocking and debloating or changing the ROM can definitely help you!

I would do it for 30 and make sure your phone gets back to you with lots of extra programs you will need. Plus 5 bucks shipping back.

i actually like this idea. if a dev makes a vid of him building the entire rom, it could be like hundreds of hours long. still like the idea
I don't do much themeing or building of AOSP ROMs but in my experience it would be a very boring video lol Mostly trial and error and reading logcats to see what works and what doesn't
Like I say on the top ...dont matter what it takes

Please, never post like this again if you're going to stay a part of this forum. The phone isn't even officially released, that's the price you pay for getting it two days early. The devs we will have didn't have their hands on the phone, let alone a system dump, so how the hell do you expect them to have something already? And no matter how much you think it does, your self entitled complaining really doesn't help development, rather, it slows it down. Devs don't like having to deal with people like you that are all about "gimme gimme gimme" with no help for them in return. Patience is a virtue, I suggest you find some.

So start looking at performance tweaks and such, and if you are adding some stuff to pre-compiled APKs then look into smali and the tools you need to use to manipulate it.

Oh boy...I just love it when people start saying
"I'm building a ROM", "I'm doing dev work", "I want to be a recognized developer"
Then I make suggestions and I get "That's too hard", "Do you have a download link" "Cn u teac me hw mak a custm kernel?"
Yet they are totally unwilling to actually invest some time into these things and LEARN it.
Guy's Rome wasn't built in a day, and your ROM isn't going to be either. Look around, read, SEARCH SEARCH SEARCH. Download other people's stuff not just to Kang it, rename/re-post it under your name, but to LEARN, to figure out how it works, so you can UNDERSTAND. This isn't like a store, where you walk in and go "I want one of those, and I'll take one of them, and please get me that, where can I find this, etc, etc." Make little modifications, tweaks on top of tweaks, and keep doing that until it's soemthing new, soemthing different, and THEN post it. But please don't limit yourself, to what is "Easy" or "Comfortable", it's not the way to get anywhere with real development work, much less in life. Put some time into it, and some effort. I really do wish you all luck, but you guys have to stop looking for the easy way to get some quick credit.
[/RANT]
@OP I know of zero performance modifications that you can do in XML, and if you are looking to use someone else's work and use that then start searching and make sure you ask before you use it.

Who are you referring it to? I cooked a rom and I think that I have made the rom. Of you don't have anything to help me then please don't comment. I don't understand smali but I know how to read tutorials and add more features in the rom by smali editing like swipe to remove, 14 toggle etc.

He was being helpful, he is bringing up a attitude that is rampant here on XDA, namely the "cooking" of ROMs. There are WAY too many people who just cook a ROM in a kitchen and claim to have "developed" it. No, you just re-packaged somebody's work, it's not the same thing. I'm not saying it's useless, but it causes way to many "developer" wanna-be's that just aren't interested in actually learning something. Up above we posted suggestions and you responded with

That creates the impression that you aren't wanting to try any other methods for creating ROMs. If you were trying to say that you don't know smali, then maybe you should have said something like,

Not only is that easier to read, but it also communicates much more clearly what you are trying to say/ask. But the way that post is currently worded it makes it sound like you are just wanting to re-package somebody's work and use it as your own.

This is very true, I'm new to porting and I'm starting with porting so I can learn the ins and outs of a rom so at a later time I can learn to develop, even in porting I've had to back smali and make some edits to get things working so sooner or later you will have to as well.. I'm currently reading a begginers guide on java for android.. Google is my best friend and I'm trying to learn as much as I can because I have an idea of my 'ideal' rom.. I can't wait for someone else to do it so I can port it and I know it will never be the way I want.. I'm doing it mainly for myself and I hope one day I can share with others

Best thing to do is get on the good side of a dev and ask them to teach you, I had great help from some of the best devs on XDA, but as above its not something you can just learn easily, I already had a pretty good knowledge of Java and XMLs etc before i got a smart phone lol, If you stick to it then you should get somewhere, Java is a pain in the ass though, editing .smalis is probably the hardest thing for a new dev

The main problem (just my point of view) is that those "noobs" ignore any compents (if I think on hephappy's thread) and think they know everything.
And because they don't work on there own project, they don't know how much work (all in the free time of the devs) has to be done.
Don't worry
Don't worry!
My roms are available via Rom Manager.
Rom manager -> Download rom -> hephappy -> Select rom

ROM hosting is free. ROMs hosted via ROM Manager Developer Portal will be listed
in the free section 5 days of the week. The other 2 days of the week, it will be
listed in the premium section. The days may vary from developer to developer

I kinda agree here, developers get all the respect, praise and following but they get bossy and abusive at times. Evrerybody likes to have good ROMs but not at the price of self respect I guess.
Everybody has a noob stage in life or maybe someone who you call noob at XDA might be a scholar in his field so XDA is not the end of the world. The best way to treat somebody who you dont like is to 'ignore'.
If a dev has 500 fans and 50 of them are ignorant noobs, even then its not a bad deal.
MORAL: Everybody start giving respect, dont be short tempered, value devs work and try to ignore if thats the only option.
Cheers!

Everybody is a "noob" at one time.Lot of people think they are the boss and call others noobs, but that pretty much wont last long.I ain't a developer but love all the developing works in here. Its really obvious from the thank meters of great devs, how much respected they are in this community.
Not anybody is born really intelligent and talented.
Everybody learn something from others and improve it.That is how the system works.
Everybody has their own field which they are perfect at.In that field, the "bosses" in here could be noobs.
I think everybody should learn to respect others to gain respect.

100% Noob for Reason and Courtesy
I have been a professional developer but for internals and ROMs, I am 100% "Noob." Most of what I see on this little thread is much less than helpful. Enough already.
Anyone who read my posts would see that my tone does not fit the stereotype be harangued here. I do not use the F word, the S word, make ridiculous claims and demands of more experienced (fantastic!) "Devs." Any suggestions I make are with respect and humility. Maybe the ideas will pan out, maybe not.
If I do not have CM10 on this old phone, I am delighted with ICS. (Indeed, Google Now will soon enough work here without JB, a matter of time and ingenuity.) I do hope JB (or as I have termed in more realistically "Jelly-Sandwich") will work on the phone, but there are other things in life. I did not enter XDA for all the negativity and tension. Friendship and respect are more important the ROMs and tweaks.
I dont read p500 so munch like old time, im have buy new device and i busy with that, but this problem has rolling day by day, even before arjen and adam start developing here, it has make alot of casualties like andy, doctornotor, etc..
What you expect from from developer?
Their ideas, their works, their time, so i think they must have bigger egos than me, im just a Leacher... Just download and give feedbacks if you like their works, or leave it like that if you hate he/his works. No need flaming, another person have their glasses and viewpoint.
Xda is made for us. we here for our needs, even every devices will death development, we just try make as long as we can, and flaming is not the way to make our beloved p500 ageless like htc hero...
Thx for all developers That i known for 1.5years till now day in this section... GBU.

Arjen, can I request you to close this thread? I could understand your good intentions behind starting this thread but this is going totally in a different direction. I hope all of you agree with me that tit for tat attitude is not good for anybody. Its high time that we stop all this and come to normal mode, cooperate and make this community a great place to do better things.
